Purpose

The purpose of this tech manual is three fold. One is shameless self advertisement. The second is to put all the ideas I've head into one location. That way if someone is curious of what I've come up with, they can see. I will also include details of ideas I've had but have been unable to put into episodes. And third is so that I have a single location containing my ideas. When I first started this series, I had no real plans or direction. It was supposed to be a weekly adventure. That has resulted in retcons and deus ex machinas and other mistakes I want to avoid from here on out. Plus I normally had to go to my old stories and try to find details if I forgot something. Now all that I need is in one location.

I wanted SGM to be the continuation of SG1 and SGA. It would start in a similar location then branch off. SG1 and SGA both introduced black and white evil enemies. I wanted to expand into more morally gray ones. I wanted to continue SGA's questionable actions. I try to avoid pure evil enemies unless they can propose some moral question. And being in a galaxy so far from home, I wanted to drift away from just humans on other planets. It'll have the classic alien civilizations (has a language, has a cultures, made of cells, is tangible). I also wanted to include some more truly alien races, races that break convention of what people expect when they imagine an alien.

In terms of feel I wanted a sense of adventure. That there is something new to see beyond the horizon. I also wanted to mess with the overall tone. I didn't like SGU but it wasn't because of the dark tone. I welcome the darker tone. And for SGM I wanted to introduce a darker tone at times and SG1 and SGA's lighter tone other times. I would want SGM to be the darkest of the stargate franchise but not overly depressing. Simply that the dark moments is the darkest the franchise has ever seen.

Music

In terms of music (since I'm no composer), I use Lost Planet 2's soundtrack. I think it gives the sense of adventure that I'm looking for. And Lost Planet's 2 theme can be SGM's theme.

SGM Theme: Lost Planet 2 Theme

Ror'char Theme: Helgast March, Jedi Temple March

Quinteran theme: Vampyr theme, Dead By Daylight Pyramid Head chase music, Bloodborne theme

Inspirations

This actually takes a combination of scifi and fantasy. I think fantasy can fit snugly into scifi so long as it is controlled. Many initial inspirations have fantasy origins then I look for potential scientific or scifi explanations. If none exists, I twist the fantastical until there is one.
