Age 737
A small group of saiyans is on a mission to conquer planet Sing.
At first, it seemed like its inhabitants were able to fend off the impending doom, though all hope was lost once night time arrived and the moon began to shine bright in all its glory. The three invaders transformed into Great Apes and destroyed everything.
A couple of hours later the moon disappeared and the saiyans transformed back into their original forms. Still, all hope was lost for the singians. The remaining survivors ran away. Now, the saiyans are flying around, looking for them with help of their scouters.
"Man, this is so annoying..." Sawabi shouts. "I mean, running away isn't very sportsmanlike and should be punished and all, but I'm getting real bored right about now."
Flying right next to him is Chori. With decades of experience, Chori is something like the mentor figure of the team. As such he gives Sawabi one piece of advice along the way, "patience is a virtue, kid."
"Of course you had to come at me with a phrase like that. Totally not being played out..."
*Beep, beep*
"Wait, I think I got something... Stay up here, old man. I'll take care of it."
Sawabi decreases to the ground. In front him is a house, that is brown but looks a bit like an igloo. Surprisingly, it doesn't appear to be too damaged despite everything that happened around it... He opens the door and as he steps in, he notices a table at the end of the room that was thrown forwards.
"That's not exactly a good place to hide." Sawabi points to the table. Then he opens up his hand to gather energy. "Come out or I'll kill you on the spot. Wanna go out fighting or like a coward? Choice is yours."
A singian drops from the ceiling and sucker punches Sawabi from the side, thereby destroying his scouter. Then he puts him into a Full Nelson.
From behind the table another person appears. He has long, white hair and looks very humanoid, except much like the rest of his people he has very light green skin and horns sticking out of his head.
"Well that was predictable..." Sawabi says unimpressed.
"And still it worked," the singian in front of him says. "What does that say about you, huh? You won't leave this place alive, idiot." He begins to lean back and opens his mouth to loudly inhale.
Meanwhile Sawabi stomps on the foot of the guy who's holding him. Then he quickly turns around, making them both switch places. Right afterwards the poor guy catches a load of acid that his long-haired spews out.
As the injured singian cries out in pain, Sawabi puts him out with an ellbow to the stomach. Across the room the long-haired singian just stands there, shocked. Which gives Sawabi all the time in the world to attack and put him out of his misery as well.
"That was that..." Sawabi mutters to himself. He takes a look around and notices a closed door. As he calmly walks up to it, he begins to hear a noise. It sounds like someone is crying. Sawabi enters the room and at first glance, he doesn't see anyone - until he looks down.
"Well, you looks smaller than the others."
The child wipes the tears off of his face. His entire body is quivering but still he approaches Sawabi with an angry expression in his face.
He jumps forward and throws a flurry of blows at the saiyan, who blocks all of it with ease.
"I like your spirit," Sawabi admits. "But if you know what's good for you, you better stop now."
The child drops to the ground and starts crying loudly.
"...And you better shut up!"
"Hey! Sawabi! Is everything alright in there? Don't tell me they got you!" Chori yells from afar.
"It's all good down here! I just wanna have my fun!" Sawabi screams back at the top of his lungs. Now, he looks back to the kid. "Listen, today is your lucky day," he says calmly. "I'm not in the mood to kill you right now, but I'm not sure how my colleague out there feels about this, so you better hide well and be quiet. Maybe we can fight for real one day..."
Sawabi turns away and leaves. Right as steps out Chori already asks him what took him so long.
"So much for patience being... something, eh?"
"Funny. Just spill the beans already," Chori demands.
"Well it was a set-up by two guys," Sawabi explains. "They weren't really dangerous though, so I toyed around a little.
"Alright then..." Chori takes a look at the house and checks his scouter. "That's weird, there seems to be a weak energy signal in there still."
"Should be one of the guys bleeding to death."
Chori chukles. "Poor guy." He looks back to Sawabi. "It would have been better if you just blew up the whole place at once though... Because I just noticed that something is missing from your face. You should be more careful. Guess I'm the one who has to tell you we're supposed to go back to Planet Vegeta right now. It's an order from the top."
Sawabi raises an eyebrow. Then he closes his eyes and just smiles carelessly. "Ah, don't worry, we're gonna be back just in time, no need to hurry." He pauses. "Say, what do they want to see us for?"
"I don't know and I don't care," Chori says. "If you're at it for as long as I am then you're gonna stop questioning everything at some point... Just let us go already. I'm a week away from retirement and don't want to get in any trouble with Frieza, alright?"
"Fine, let's go..." Sawabi says. "Don't wanna get ya in any trouble."
The two saiyans fly all the way back to their space pods. There, the third member of the crew is already waiting: Nastur. "Guys, I've been waiting here for ages. What took you so long?"
"Our little one wanted to play around for a bit," Chori says.
"I suppose it makes sense to make work as pleasent as possible, but we need to go now," Nastur says, "I hope you still were thorough. In case you forgot, it was explicitly said that we have to kill every single inhabitant of this planet." After the explanation Nastur starts staring at Sawabi.
"What're ya lookin' at?"
"Where's your scouter?"
"Doesn't matter where it is..."
The trio makes its way back to Planet Vegeta.
Upon arrival they are being greeted by the warden of the landing station, who is a member of Appule's Race. "Welcome back! How was your mission?"
"Good. But our friend here needs a new scouter," Nastur says while pointing to Sawabi.
"Sorry about that..." Sawabi says embarrased, holding a hand behind his head.
"No problem," says the warden, "I've got one spare anyway since my colleague left his lying around and didn't come back from his meeting with Frieza, so... you know..." He continues after an awkward pause, "Anyway, follow me. Your crewmates can make that report to Frieza without you."
Sawabi steps forward and waves his friends goodbye. "See you around, guys!"
Nastur nods. "Later. Shouldn't take too long, anyway."
"Don't do anything stupid while we're away!" Chori says, smiling.
The Crew seperates and the warden leads Sawabi to his office. While handing him the scouter, the warden takes a look at Sawabi's clothes. "While we're at it, I can give you new armor, too. Your current one has cracks all over it."
Sawabi looks down. "You're not wrong..."
"You know, you might as well step into a healing pod also. Sure looks like you'd need that right now."
"The only thing I need right now," Sawabi says, "is a beer!"
"If you say so..."
"But uh, anyway, is Ruto still in one of those things?"
"No, he isn't," the warden replies. "He's got all healed up while you were away."
"Fantastic!" Sawabi says delighted. "That's one more reason to go for a drink."
So Sawabi goes to the local bar and enjoys a drink or two. And suddenly, an old friend appears. "How's it going, mate?"
Surprised, Sawabi looks to the left of him and can't help but crack a smile. "Heh, how did I know I'd see you around here? How have you been, man?"
"All good," Ruto replies. "Well, except that you had all the fun without me..."
"Yeah, that mission came outta nowhere and they said you weren't ready yet, so..." Sawabi explains. "Why didn't you come after us?"
"I had no idea where you were," Ruto says. "They didn't even tell me you guys were on a mission. I've looked for you!"
"That's weird... Only the three of us went on that trip. We were lucky that there was a full moon, to be honest."
"Eh, I guess by the time I was up you guys were almost done anyway... Would have been there for like 10 minutes and then on my way back home."
"I guess that makes sense..." Sawabi says.
"So where are the other guys?" Ruto asks.
"Not sure. They should be here by now anyway. Wanna go look for them?"
"Forget about! I just got here and let me tell ya, I'm in the mood for a nice, cool drink right now." Ruto looks at the bartender. "Hey, one glass of milk, please!"
Sawabi grins. "Daring today, aren't we?"
Both of them start laughing.
"Come on, let's sit down on a table!" Ruto suggests. "Let's talk, just like in the old days."
"Not a bad idea, buddy."
So they both sit down and drink.
Ruto puts down his glass. "So..." He licks off his milk mustache. "What did you all do on your latest adventure?"
"Nothing special, really... Standard procedure. We came in in planet what-was-it-called-again and killed everybody," Sawabi says. "Apparently Frieza specifically asked for everyone on the planet do be killed as if we didn't do that all the time anyway..." Sawabi takes a big sip.
"So you didn't do it, right?" Ruto grins. "You can't fool me, buddy. You slacked."
"Whatever, man," Sawabi says, staying calm. "What can a single child do anyway?"
"Wow, you're a real softie, man!" Ruto chuckles.
"At least I don't visit a bar just to drink some milk..." Sawabi retorts. "Anyway, about the others... They were hardworking."
"Yeah, I imagine... Kinda," Ruto says. "Glad to have Nastur in the team. He's way too good to be a low-class."
"For sure. He's going to get that promotion eventually."
Ruto nervously stares at his glass. "Now Chori on the other hand... We're at a point where we are looking after him, not the other way around."
"Ah, don't be silly!" Sawabi says. "He still got a lot left in the tank. He says he's gonna retire but I don't think he's gonna be out for a week tops. He fought all his life. He even lead a group in the Tsufurian war. After all those years he's still standing and his only bad scratch is the scar on his face!"
"Well, yes, he deserves a lot of respect, but... Time moves forward, you know?" Ruto says. "I don't want something to happen to him - or worse, have him be the reason something bad happens to us. It's time to pass the torch, don't you think?"
"I guess so..." Sawabi admits. "It's been a while since his heyday, huh? When did that war against the tsufuru guys start again? 720? We were five years old at the time," Sawabi recalls. "Nah, wait, you were only four! No wonder you've always been like a little brother to me."
"Real funny. I'm 3 months younger than you," Ruto states. "And already way stronger!"
"Oh, yeah? Well, that might be cause your parents always made it so easy for you! They even got you those weird saibamen things. Who the hell can afford that shit?"
Ruto smirks. "All I hear are excuses."
"Seems like the milk is making you a bit too confident."
"No, I'm always like that."
"Then I guess I gotta fix that."
They both smirk at each other.
"So, you wanna throw hands?" Ruto asks.
"Damn right, I wanna. Unless you're scared of course."
"Let's go!"
Just as both stood up from their seats a seriously injured man walks into the bar and drops on one of the tables. It's Bardock. He gets up and reveals the truth to all the guys who are staring at him in confusion. "Listen, we are all going to die if we don't do something! Frieza is gonna betray us all."
And so, all the saiyans in the bar band together to have a good laugh at Bardock, who drops his jaw in disbelief as blood runs down his face, coming from his dead friend's cloth that he tied around his forehead.
"You know what? Forget about it! You can all go to hell from what I care!"
Even after Bardock left Sawabi keeps staring at the entrance.
"What a creep..." Ruto says.
"I dunno..." Sawabi retorts. "What if he's right?"
"Nonsense. This guy has gone insane, that's all."
Sawabi looks back at Ruto. "Did you see what he looked like? If the first thing he does is warn everyone instead of going to a healing pod then this shit is, like, super important to him, no?"
"I bet he just got hit on the head one too many times."
"Maybe we should have followed him..."
"And needlessly die? You are so naive... I'm not making much of some dumb conspiracies and neither should you!" Ruto says. "Life has been good ever since we started working for Frieza. We're saiyans, we do our job well. So why would he turn against us? Or why should we turn against him? Cause some guy says so? Either way, going into a bar when you're this close to death already and trying to recruit a bunch of drunk people isn't exactly a well thought-out plan. This Bard-something guy is an idiot."
Sawabi scratches his head. "Well, you're not wrong... Anyway, this shit kinda killed the mood and I'm seriously wondering where the others are... Shall we go look for them?"
"Eh, why not," Ruto says. "I could go for a walk."
They leave the bar and decide go back to the landing station. Upon their arrival, Sawabi greets the warden. "Hey, it's me again..."
"Ah yes, the guy who I gave a scouter earlier," says the warden. "What can I help you with this time?"
"Are my crewmates still with Frieza?" Sawabi asks.
"Looks like they are."
"Must be one long report, huh?"
"I don't know."
Sawabi frowns. "Mind if we fly over to Frieza's spaceship?"
"He doesn't want to be disturbed."
"So he orders everyone of us to go back to the planet and then doesn't even wanna talk with us?"
"That's the order."
Sawabi looks next to him at Ruto. They both look at each other for a bit without saying anything.
"Still not fishy to you?" Sawabi asks.
"So what? What do you wanna do about it?" Ruto argues. "Either we stay here and see what happens or you somehow manage to get into Frieza's spaceship and get killed by him personally for defying orders. If you have a deathwish go right ahead, my man."
"Or we take option 3..." Sawabi smiles. "We make a getaway."
"The hell are you talking about?" Ruto asks annoyed. "You can't possibly be this paranoid. You wanna leave everything behind and aimlessly float through space just becausee you have a bad feeling?"
"This is our ticket to freedom, man!" Sawabi says full of excitement. "We're gonna do it like Turles and do our own thing! It's gonna be great!"
"Listen, dude, it seems like..."
"Don't mean to interrupt ya, but..." the warden interrupts. "Do you guys see that thing up there, too?"
All three of them look up and see something that resembles... a supernova.
Ruto wipes a drop of sweat of his face. "Uh... That's just the sun, man."
Sawabi looks behind him for a second and then looks back at the supernova. "That's not the sun."
And just like that, it all came to Ruto. The saiyans have been fighting and conquering planets for years and thanks to modern armor and healing methods there have been fewer deaths and people were able to go back to fighting quickly. What's more, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger they say... During the past six years under Frieza's reign the saiyans have become stronger than ever before. For six years, Ruto fought and trained hard everyday to get stronger, so he could be part of the elite someday. The only price he earns for his efforts is certain death.
"Sawabi... All of our friends are dead. And we're gonna be too, if we don't get away right now!"
The warden panics. "Hey! We've got two rogues in here! Go get the-" he screams before getting taken down by Ruto. Meanwhile Sawabi already went on his way to a space pod and sits down. Trembling for his life he leaves immediately.
A couple of soldiers appear, who use their laser cannons to shoot down the escaping space pod. Before too long, Ruto takes all them out with a barrage of ki-blasts. Two more soldiers come towards Ruto who get both struck down by him. Afterwards Ruto steps back and jumps up while he's holding his hands behind his head in order to gather energy. He then throws a big energyball towards the soldiers, putting them to rest for good.
Ruto rushes to one of the remaining space pods and flees the scene as well, however shortly afterwards the supernova reaches Planet Vegeta and Ruto gets lost in the explosion of the planet. Meanwhile Sawabi floats through the depths of space aimlessly.
He is completely unaware that he is being observed in this moment.
"And another space pod... Very sloppy, but that is to be expected of my brother..."
There's only one thing on the mind of the fleeing Sawabi: the death of his friends. He tries his best, holding back his tears. Then, his sadness turns into rage. "Dammit," he shouts to himself. "He really did it... Everyone I knew... And everything we did for him - for nothing. Frieza, you screwed us all... But I'm not gonna let you off the hook, asshole! I'll do anything to get a chance to kill you."
"The man they call Sawabi. You have been summoned..."
"What the hell?" Sawabi asks all surprised. "Am I imagining things? Maybe I really did get cr-" he says, as a white light sorrounds him and he disappears.
