In the posh office he had worked from for the last year, The Admiral sat quietly, staring down at the assorted papers on his desk. The foremost one being the draft for his upcoming announcement about the arrival of the contingent of Marines. He had to word it exactly right, as he had the feeling some kanmasu would, at the very least, view them with suspicion, at worst, they would attempt to settle old grudges from the past, violently. The Admiral shuttered to think of the political consequences that would result if one of his kanmasu were to attempt to "settle a score."

Yet despite the possible hostility hanging over his head, he was looking forward to have Marines here, as they would be pulling air defense duty around the base, ensuring that any surprise air raid would not have it easy, along with providing "peacekeeping" functions. Plus there was the main reason they were here in the first place, to provide a way to not only attack islands, but also secure them by clearing out so called "land Abyssals." Of course before he could use marines on ops there would have to be combined arms training between his kanmasu and the Marines.

That in itself even presented problems, just how in the hell would a JTAC even call in a strike without being able to use a laser designator? Perhaps smok...

The Admiral had his train of thought interrupted by the door to his office being opened. Looking up from his desk, the Admiral could see Nagato standing before him. He forced himself to take a deep breath, knowing that Nagato never knocked before entering unless it was something dire.

"Admiral." Nagato spoke.

The Admiral sighed. "Go ahead."

Nagato stared at him. "We received a emergency radio broadcast from one of our patrols, a massive fleet was sighted heading towards the base. However, the fleet appears to be made up of naval warships. I don't know if I should put the base on full alert and scramble all available forces or if I should stand down."

"Stand down. We are supposed to receive a large force of United States Marines, it seems they are simply arriving a bit early. Have some of the girls head out and bring them in, and provide cover while they unload."

"Understood." Nagato responded. However, instead of leaving, Nagato continued to stand in front of his desk.

Uneased, the Admiral spoke. "Is there a problem?"

"Why was I not made aware of this beforehand?"

"Because I wanted to make a speech beforehand, announcing their arrival and trying to put a positive spin on it. I know some of the girls still harbor grudges against the Americans. I most definitely do not want these Marines marching in only to be slaughtered by some pissed off kanmasu who can't keep her emotions in check." the Admiral responded

"Admiral-"

"Listen..." the Admiral put his hands on the table, "I would love to have this chat later, but at the moment, I need to make an announcement."

The speaker system crackled to life throughout the naval base.

"This is the Admiral speaking. I would like to inform all of you that we will be receiving new arrivals in the form of a contingent of United States Marines.

I understand that some of you may still hold animosity towards the Americans due to the war, animosity which is understandable considering the circumstances which many of you have faced in the past. However, I ask that any of you who have this animosity seek help, we have counselors to help you deal with issues such as these.

Remember, these marines are not just here to help guard our naval base. Without going into too much detail, you will be working and fighting alongside these marines for the foreseeable future, therefore, I suggest we make sure we start our relationship on the right foot, by treating our guests with respect and honor.

Thank you."

AN: Hello, and welcome to my new story, "All in This Together"

The idea for this story came to me from asking the question to myself: "What exactly is going on with humanity as a whole during the invasion?" After all, in the anime/game/etc. we see a lot of the kanmasu (and for good reason, considering they are the focal point of the story, after all!) but aside from little hints we get almost no info regarding this.

I think the idea that the kanmasu are the only way to protect against abbysals is an idea that falls on it's head once you examine it a bit. It seems most works handwave it as 'oh the abbsyals mess with modern tech so we cannot fight them.' but even that does not take into account all the other options avaliable! For instance, why not (like in my story) mass produce a fighter jet like the F-5, one that is dirt cheap, good in a dogfight, and easy to maintain? Why not set up costal anti-aircraft batteries? (we already did this in WW2!)

Along with the previous points, another major reason for the undertaking of this story is to examine how a professional military force interacts with what is essentially a poorly organised fleet of teenage girls with naval guns strapped onto them. Obviously, Hilarity will ensue.

And for all those hoping for some new OC shipgirls, you are all in luck! Lets just say that some modern ships sunk at the start of the abbysal invasion are back and looking to get some sweet, sweet revenge!

Feel free to leave a review, fav, whatever.
