Hello, everybody! Here's some proof of life in the form of an update that nobody was waiting for. I'm working on the next chapter of A New Pack and will hopefully have that out by next month. Anyway here's a sneak peek of the future of the A New Pack Universe.
It was a fairly common thing among werewolves that were bitten as children, although it did rarely appear among werewolves that were bitten as adults, especially ones who had lived in forests and such, as they did, to be feral. Feral werewolves tended to not interact much with humans, attacking in human or wolf form. Words were often optional for feral werewolves, most communication happening through scent, body language, and sending emotions through the mental link a werewolf pack had. Clothes also weren't high in their list of priorities, since they stayed in the woods where they couldn't be seen. Some entire packs lived their lives like that, in others only some of the members were feral. Chances of them living among humans were kind of low but it was possible with a lot of time and teaching. Lone feral wolves were often the one who gave werewolves a bad name, attacking any living thing during the full moon.
Remus had been lucky, while Fenrir was high on the Ministry's most wanted list, there had been plenty of other werewolves in the pack, most had been older than Remus and able to take him into areas with humans, as Remus tried to do with Hermione, Harry, and Draco. The pack had also thought it best to send Remus to muggle school and teach them magic themselves, seeing as they hadn't thought that Remus would be accepted into Hogwarts. Remus had also been helped by the fact that he was the only one in his age range, being the youngest and the only kid had meant that all of the older pack members had looked out for him and had made any behaviors, like wrestling or displays of dominance that might have led to him being feral, impossible since his place as a pup was unchanging until he was older. There had been a werewolf in their pack, when Remus was a kid, that was feral, he didn't talk and wasn't allowed into town, he had been a little bit of an outcast, many of the older pack members hadn't wanted that kind of life for Remus and made sure to do all they could to prevent it.
Fenrir and Remus did their best to make sure that the pups weren't feral, but the cards were against them. Remus tried to take them to the park once a week, but that time was usually spent with three of them playing together, not human children. They took them shopping for clothes when they outgrew or ruined what they had, but that didn't really require much interaction. They weren't really able to send them to a muggle school-since technically they had kidnapped Harry, Draco didn't exist in the muggle world and they had no idea what was up with Hermione's situation in the muggle world. Harry, Draco, and Hermione were more often than not running around in the forest surrounding their cave. Their time outside meant that they were using their different senses to track things and each other down and they wrestled a lot. The three were just as likely to show their displeasure with words as with a growl. They were also liable to run around barefoot and shirtless, especially after Draco had explained wearing 'p'oper a tire' for hunting to Harry and Hermione. On one notable occasion, all three ran around naked for an hour or two before Fenriri and Remus were able to impress the importance of at least wearing pants into them.
Seeing how they lived in the middle of nowhere, Fenrir and Remus had been willing to let all of these quirks slide, they usually had bigger fish to fry anyway, like making sure that they weren't discovered or that everyone was fed. Their mistake was discovered when the pup's Hogwarts letters came, the owl had landed on a stump near the cave mouth and Draco had pounced on it-starting when the three were 8 they had taken to catching their own food, usually small prey and, more often than not and way more often than Fenrir and Remus wanted, eating it raw- luckily Remus had been able to save the poor bird. After the letters were read and explanations made, a couple of things occurred to Fenrir, first they hadn't really done that much with teaching the pups academic skills they could read some (important things like street signs and the like), do simple math and he honestly had no idea if they could write, second Draco had just tried to eat the owl that delivered their letters and maybe he and Remus should feed the pups more, third there was no way that they could expect the pups to actually wear uniforms when they didn't wear clothes that often, and fourth he actually had no idea if the pups could handle being stuffed in a building with a thousand other people constantly. All these thoughts lead Fenrir to the conclusion that the pups had gone feral or at least partially.
"Mother moon!," Fenrir exclaimed when the realization finally sunk in.
"What's wrong?" Remus asked his attention snapping from the pup's to Feniri.
Fenrir looked over at the pups who, having grown bored of the letters, had wandered off.
"I'm pretty sure that the pups are feral"
Remus's brow furrowed, "No? We just done having a conversation with them a few moments ago"
"Yeah, and before that conversation Draco tried to eat that subject of the conversation, Hermione growled at me when she got hurt and I was trying to treat it, and when was the last time you saw Harry fully clothed"
Fenrir could see the realization dawn on Remus's face, "We can't send them to Hogwarts. We need more than the rest of the summer to get them ready"
"What are we going to do? Even if we don't send them to Hogwarts, they need to get their wands and things if we want to homeschool them properly, and I don't think that's an option Harry's too famous for anybody to accept that he's not going to Hogwarts."
Fenrir wiped a hand down his face, "I don't think that there is much that we can do, we're on a time crunch. We've got two months to build up their human social skills"
"Do you think we can send them without social skills"
"Tempting, but they need to at least wear their uniforms, maybe get them to tone down on the growling. If we're lucky they won't go into the forbidden forest and kill something or if they do kill something clean up after."
Their conversation was interrupted as one of the pups yelped. Fenrir and Remus whipped their heads around to see Draco pinning down, as they watched Hermione tackle Draco and then a game of king of the hill ensued as the three tussled amongst themselves.
"We might need to lower the bar a little," Remus said.
He and Fenrir then had to break up the fight as Draco, Hermione, and Harry started growling at each other and emitting yelps of pain as the fight progressed.
"Scratch that, we might need to lower the bar a lot," Fenrir corrected.
I Hope you guys enjoyed this installment. Come back later for more sometime in the future. See your writing next time.
