Two days later
Penelope was feeding Emery her bottle when her cell went off. She looked at the caller id and she smiled. "Hey sweetheart."
"Hey."
Penelope frowned at the tone she heard from her oldest son. "What's wrong?" she asked concerned.
"Grams died."
Penelope gasped. "Oh no honey. "I'm so sorry. Are you okay? What can I do?"
"The funeral is this Saturday, can I come stay with you after? Just until I know my next step?"
"Kaden honey of course you can. Do you want me to go to the funeral?"
"No. You won't know anyone there. I'll text you when I know my flight number."
"Okay baby. Are you going to be okay until then? Do you have anyone you can stay with?"
"Yea I'll stay with my friend until Saturday."
"Did you call your father?" she asked.
"I did but Alice picked up. She said she would tell him but I haven't heard from him yet and usually he calls me right back."
"I'm sure he'll call you back." She said feeling bad for her son.
"Thanks Penelope."
"You welcome honey. I'll see you soon." She heard him hang up and she put the phone down next to her and sighed.
,,,,,,,,,,
On Saturday, she got another call from him. "Hey."
"I'm at the airport." Kaden said.
"Okay good. Kaden there's something I have to tell you."
"They are starting to board. Tell me when I get there."
"Okay." She sighed worriedly.
,,,,,,,,,,
Penelope drove up to the airport and received a text that he had gotten his luggage from baggage claim. She didn't text him because when she arrived to the number he gave her she saw him and smiled. She waved at him and put the car in park.
Kaden opened the trunk of the SUV and put his three large bags and two carry-ons. Penelope's eyes widened at the amount of luggage he had with him. Then he walked up to the front and sat on the passenger seat and pulled his mother in for a big hug.
She hugged him back and kissed his forehead. "I missed you."
"I kind of missed you too." He chuckled and then heard whimpering noises from the back seat and his eyes widened when he saw Emery on the baby seat. "Who's that?"
"Kaden meet your sister Emery Skye, Emery Skye meet your big brother Kaden," she smiled at Kaden's shocked face.
"She's so cute." Kaden smiled and tickled her little feet. "So you adopted her?"
"Yes," Penelope smiled as she made her way out of the airport. "I had applied for adoption a couple of years before you came back into my life and then after you left, I got the call. I was shocked because I hadn't expected that call for at least another year or two."
"She's awesome!" he smiled.
"You hungry?" she asked.
"Starving," he said.
"We'll pick something on the way home." She said as she pulled out of the airport.
"Pizza?" he asked expectantly.
"Pizza it is." She smiled and drove towards the highway.
"Where's Oliver and Izzy?" Kaden asked.
"Oliver is at a friend's house and Izzy is spending time with her cousin. We're picking them up on our way home."
"Okay." He smiled happy that he was going to see them soon.
Oliver was gathering his things up when he heard the horn and knew his mother was there to pick him up. He said goodbye to his friend and opened the front door, when he walked up to the van he gasped and smiled.
"Hey buddy!" Kaden grinned.
"What are you doing here?" Oliver asked as he got in the back next to Emery.
"Surprised?" Kaden asked.
"Yea!" Oliver smiled. "Hey mami."
"Hi baby." Penelope said as she drove out the driveway and headed to pick up Isabel.
,,,,,,,,,,
Kaden loved having Oliver, Isabel and Emery around him. It kept him busy and not sad because of his grandma's death. Penelope was happy that Kaden accepted Oliver, Isabel and Emery and they already had a special bond. Now she had to tell him about the pregnancy.
No pressure.
,,,,,,,,,,
Penelope put Emery down on her crib once she was sleeping and took the baby monitor with her. She checked on Oliver who was passed out, Isabel was passed out as well and then she went to the guest room and knocked on Kaden's door.
"Come in." He said unpacking his clothes.
"Hey," Penelope smiled.
"Everybody sleeping?" Kaden asked.
Penelope smiled and nodded. "Can I come in?" she asked nervously.
"Of course. What's up? You okay?" Kaden asked and stopped unpacking and sat on the bed and saw Penelope sat on the bed facing him.
"There's something I have to tell you and I don't know how you'll take it," Penelope said nervously.
"What's up?" he asked nervously.
Here goes nothing…"I'm pregnant."
Kaden's eyes widened and smiled. "What? Really?"
"Yes. Twins."
Kaden's eyes widened even more. "Twins? Holy shit. But I didn't know you were dating someone. It's just been…"
Penelope shook her head. "There's no one. I was artificially inseminated. Do you know what that means?"
"Yes."
"I went through with the procedure weeks before you…"
He chuckled. "Okay. Got it."
She smiled in sympathy. "How do you feel about it?"
"Honestly I'm cool with it."
Penelope chuckled. "Really?" she asked confused.
"Yea it's your body, it's your life. I just don't want to be forgotten with so many babies in the house." He admitted.
"You're not going to be forgotten Kaden. You're my world. My first born."
Kaden smiled. "Good. How does it feel going from two kids to six kids in less than a year?" he asked.
"Scary but exciting. I always wanted a big family." Penelope smiled.
"Awesome! Do Oliver and Isabel know?"
"Oliver does." Penelope smiled. "He's counting the days actually." She chuckled.
"He's awesome. Love that kid." Kaden said.
"He really likes you too." She smiled.
"Cool!"
"There's something else," she smiled.
What?" he asked nervously.
"How would you feel if you lived here permanently?" she asked cautiously.
Kaden's eyes widened. "No shit. Really?"
She laughed. "Yes. If it's okay with you and not weird being around all these babies."
He shook his head. "I like babies."
She smiled. "I can see that. You're great with your siblings."
Kaden smiled. "Are you going to tell Luke?" he asked.
"Tell him what?" she asked even though she had an idea what he was asking.
Kaden rolled his eyes. "Tell him about Emery and the twins." He said.
"No. I don't see why I have to. He has his own life to worry about. It's none of his business to know anything that goes on in this household expect you. But if you want to tell him anything then go right ahead. It's your choice." She smiled.
"Okay," Kaden smiled and hugged her. "Thank you for trusting me and telling me shit and stuff."
Penelope smiled. "You welcome sweetie." She kissed his forehead and got up from the bed. "Good night."
"Night Penelope."

Two weeks later
Kaden was making a sandwich for Oliver, Isabel and himself. Oliver was helping and Isabel just sat in the kitchen island making small talk with the boys. Penelope walked into the kitchen and smiled seeing her kids interacting.
"Have you heard from your dad?" Penelope asked as she opened the fridge door and grabbed a bottled juice.
"No." he said sadly.
"Have you tried calling him again?" Penelope asked.
"I think he's busy with work." Kaden said defensively.
"Kaden he is your dad, he'd love to hear from you as much as possible. Give him a call." Penelope said but when he didn't say anything, she changed the subject and the four of them talked about something else.

One week later
Alvez was in his office going through some paperwork when he heard his phone go off. He checked and saw that it was his son. He smiled and put the paperwork aside and put the call on speaker. "Hey son."
"Hey Luke."
He chuckled. "When are you going to start calling me dad?"
"Not yet. It's weird calling you that now."
"I understand. So what's going on? How's your grandma?"
"She passed away."
"Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that."
"It's okay. She was really old."
"So where are you going to stay?" he asked hopeful.
"I've been staying with Penelope for the last three weeks now."
Alvez stopped what he was doing and took the call off speaker. "Oh… really?"
"Yes. She's great."
"Well why didn't you call me? You know you are always welcomed here."
"I called you three weeks ago before I called Penelope actually but Alice had answered and told me that she was going to tell you."
"What?" Alvez asked in shocked. "Why didn't you call me again?"
"Because I thought you didn't want to talk to me." Kaden said a bit sad.
"Kaden that's ridiculous. You're my son." Alvez said in awe. "You can still come and stay with us if you want."
"I'm sorry but I don't like Alice. She's weird and now it's obvious she doesn't like me either because she didn't tell you I called you a couple of times. She's probably pissed that I brought you and Penelope back together again."
"What? Kaden that's… She and I aren't…"
"Whatever Luke, you and Penelope obviously have something there but are too stubborn to talk about it so instead you two fight like crazy. Alice sees the passion as well and she doesn't like it. I bet you she feels threatened by her."
"How the hell do you know all this? You're only 18."
"I just know."
Alvez sighed. "So you're going to live with her?"
"I'm already here actually. My things are in boxes but I'm officially moved in. The kids were excited when I told them."
"Okay well I want to see you so I'll go down to Florida next month. How's that sound?"
"That would be awesome." Kaden said happily.
"Great. I'll talk to you later son. Got to go back to work."
"Okay. See you next month but I'll probably call you sooner than that."
"I would love that."
"Okay bye Luke."
"Bye." Alvez said and finished the call. He rubbed his head with his hands in frustration and looked at his phone. Before he went back to work he decided to make another call.
"Let me guess he told you?" she asked.
"How'd you know that's what I was calling you for?" he asked annoyed.
"Because we never talked in 18 years and now we've spoken a lot in less than three months." Penelope said annoyed.
"What the fuck Penelope?"
"What? He's my son. Did you think I was going to leave him homeless?"
"He could've chosen me."
"Are you seriously jealous? Alice didn't even tell you that Kaden had called you. If you had picked up when he did maybe he would be there instead of here. But I'm glad he's here cause I don't want your husband around my son."
"Our son. Penelope you needed to talk to me about these thing first."
"No Alvez I actually don't. He's practically a grown up. It was his choice. Yes I offered but he was the one who made the decision. He can do whatever he wants."
"I don't care. He is our son. We both need to look out what's best for him."
"And living with me is not best for him? Fuck you."
"Dammit Penelope." He started to yell.
"Go to hell." She hung up the phone.
Alvez looked at his smart phone and saw red. Okay maybe he was a little jealous but it bothered him that Kaden chose her before him, and she was the one who gave him up. He rolled his eyes and rubbed his temple.
He was going to go earlier than he thought.
Alice was not going to like it.
Shit!
Now he needed to have a conversation with his wife about his son.
,,,,,,,,,,
Two weeks later
Penelope opened the door and glared. "Shocker." She said sarcastically. "Kaden your father is here." She stepped to the side to let him come in and she closed the door behind him.
Alvez couldn't take his eyes away from the baby Penelope was holding and bouncing her as they waited awkwardly for their son to join them. He saw the cotton shorts Penelope wore to the middle of her thick thighs, her loose t-shirt, messy ponytail, a baby rag on her shoulder and barefooted.
In other words she looked amazing.
