Marcus:
The bodies he had so neatly lined up were in large messy piles. He had removed their armor. The empire couldn't let good armor go to waste. Their skin glistened from a light rain that happened before the suns light peaked over the horizon. He liked to think it was the tears of Kynareth herself but if that is so then they would soon mix with the flames of Akatosh as Marcus began to dump containers of oil, spreading it over his brothers in arms.
He brought out his favorite bottle of Colovian brandy and dropped his body into the sand by his men. He almost offered a drink to a nord soldier only to find everything coming back to him. During that brief flash he saw warmth in the nord's eyes but when it all hit him the eyes were grey. You could still tell the eyes were once a bright blue but they had dulled. Marcus knew the nord. Son of some thane in some hold, they often drank together making a game of it. Was the nord still making a game of it? Was he in sovngarde drinking with heroes of old or did the manner of his death bar his entry?
He kept looking at those grey eyes, lifeless eyes in a man who was once known to act as if he had life to spare. It disgusted him. Not the man but the grey eyes. They made him think of the sea where with no doubt he knew many men that went uncounted by him drifted under its surface. With that thought he quickly rose from the sand taking a gulp of the brandy and dumped the rest out onto the pile of lifeless bodies. He kneeled down, picking up a jug of oil and stood once more to spread the oil over his fellow soldiers.
He looked into those lifeless grey eyes one last time and lit the fire, now they had life.
Isulfr:
Isulfr looked over the frost covered town from a rocky ledge. It reminded him of Dawnstar but a bit larger. From his ledge he saw many flags gathered in the water, white griffins, black bears, grey and white wolves, and a flag that for a moment made him forget his situation was a flag carrying a dragon. Once he realized it was not the Imperial flag he gathered himself and realized that it wasn't even close. It was two dragons shouting at each other, no where close to the imperial flag.
Isulfr had come to this ledge to get away. Whatever happened the other day he didn't understand and looking at the flags and memorizing them helped take his mind off of the situation. As the situation crept back into his mind it was just as quickly put down when Yvette threw herself onto Isulfr's back.
"Any new ships?" she asked.
"One ship. Two dragons shouting at each other." he replied.
"Shouting? Oh the two dragons breathing fire, its the only one you could mean. That would be an odd sight to see, I think. Dragons would be less frightening if they just yelled at their enemies." she laughed.
"I would guess so but in my home the word shout carries two meanings. Yelling and the pure destructive force that is the thu'um."
"What's the thu'um?"
"The thu'um is... is. Well I'm not sure how to explain it. It's the dragon language though and with it they breathed fire and ice and much more from mere words." he explained.
"Hmmm. So they do yell?"
"What. No thats not it. It.. its something much much more but I just can't explain it but no it's not yelling."
"They use words, I'm sure they're loud. Soooo they yell." she said seemingly proud of the conclusion she came to.
"By the gods you're stubborn, yes they yell. Happy now?" he boomed.
"By the gods I'm happy" she mocked.
"Why you little!" he said taking her down to the ground in a fit up grunts and laughter by both sides.
"Gods damnit!" he yelled.
He had forgotten about the pain in his side from the accident, his mind somehow focused on everything else around him tuning it out.
"Are you alright?" Yvette said while getting up to check on him.
"Yeah, I just.. I just want to lie here. In the snow for a bit."
"Ok."
"I wonder how Marcus is."
"Who's Marcus?" Yvette asked.
"He's my friend, commander, my shield brother."
"What do you wonder about him?"
"If he's alive, if so how is he doing. Marcus is a serious man but emotion affects him more than others. He just hides it better than most and because of that I worry for him."
"He'll be alright. I promise. I'll even help you."
"You will?" he asked sarcastically. He liked her but still, he didn't know if she had ever fought a battle and the thought of her entering battle scared him.
"What does that mean?! Of course. I'll get armor tomorrow and a weapon and... and uhm. Do you know what else I need?"
"I think you'll be alright. I'll go with you tomorrow, I promise." he laughed.
For a moment he was silent and so was she.
"You promise?" she asked leaning in.
"Yes?" he answered, closing the gap.
"Will you fight by my side?" she asked.
"Forever." he said as they embraced, laying there in the snow. To him her heat was like dragon fire.
Valens:
Valens flipped rapidly through whatever books survived the crash and washed ashore with him. The people who had saved him saved his books but had found themselves unable to read the books due to a language barrier or at least a written language barrier which he found odd but he pushed those thoughts aside. He finally found it. A section in a book titles A Catalog of the Great Beasts of Tamriel by Tacitus Imanicus, the section he found was titled "The Great Winged Beasts of Tamriel. Valens didn't really know why he kept the book, half of the information was wrong and the writer was a known fool. When he bought the book it was a curiosity buy at best but now it may help, that is if the fool didn't take the creative liberty he usually did.
The section included Gryphons in which Tacitus claims the beaks of a Gryphon are made of gold and a Gryphons screech sounded like a harp, already not off to a good start. Valens flipped the page, harpies. Tacitus described them as winged women eager to mate with any male they see even going on to describe a personal encounter with them. Valens ripped the page, burned it with a snap of his fingers and continued to the next page. Imps, surprisingly most of what Tacitus said was accurate except for the fact that he included them in a section titled "The Great Winged Beasts of Tamriel". He flipped the page and flipped the page, taking in every detail until his eyes fell upon a drawing of the greatest of winged beasts to ever grace tamriel's skies. Dragons.
Tacitus didn't share any new information or add any personal tale of his own for once but the simple information was all he needed to know to confirm what the beast in his vision was. A dragon. He quickly tore the page and rushed out the door. He wandered the road for a bit until he could hear the drunken calls of soldiers on break, they all called for a few sparks, a little show to amuse but he had no time. He left them to their drunken ramblings and kept on until he reached the gaurds barrracks and opened the door.
"What brings you here in such a hurry?" Lillian said as she turned her attention from a few other gaurds to him.
"When I fainted yesterday, making a fool of myself. I had a vision. A vision of a great beast, a beast capable of laying low the greatest of castles and armies and cities. I saw a dragon."
"Calm down, calm down. You hit your head when you fell it's simpl-" she stopped as the room grew dark with any flame growing dim, every plank and piece of wood creaked and moaned under a newfound stress and the Wizard though he stood still and of the same size, grew tall in his power.
"Do not make me out as some madman with his ramblings. I have seen and even spoken to powers greater than you or I. I wield the elements of fire and ice and lightning. A feat you all thought impossible until you saw me. And with those very elements I bring my foes low! I have brought forth monsters from the very nightmares that frighten you all like cowardly children and this I do as easily as one could flip a coin. I am no madman and I am not one to be questioned on such matters." as he finished his speech the shadow that blanketed the room retreated back to it's master and the wood no longer creaked and the fires returned to bright flame and
Once his show of power was over he slammed the paper down on the desk nearest to Lillian. I need you, all of you, to write down what I read aloud. Start by writing Dragons are real.
Note from the Author:
Alright, summers finally here and I can start really writing. I plan on breaking up the whole three character point of view in each chapter and write chapters focusing on each character, I think it will help me write with better detail and focus more on developing the characters better. Anyway I hope anyone who reads this enjoyed it.
