TW: Assault & mentions of rape.
JJ grabbed two cups of coffee from the cart outside the psychology building and made her way up to her professor's office for her one-to-one session. She was silently hoping that it wasn't her that had pissed Emily off in their lecture, seeing the brunette go from smiling to stone cold within a matter of seconds had freaked her out slightly. She tapped her knuckles on the office door but didn't hear a peep from inside the room. She pushed down on the handle, the door opening slowly. She crept in to find Emily staring vacantly out of the window on the opposite side of the room, sat deathly still in her leather chair.
"Emily?" JJ spoke softly, not wanting to startle the brunette.
"What?" Emily shot back.
"I brought you a coffee for our one-to-one." JJ walked and placed it in front of Emily, taking a step back and dropping her bag next to her usual seat.
"There's files there, take what you want and get to work." Emily pointed weakly at the stack in JJ's place on the desk.
"Are you okay?" JJ's eyebrows furrowed; Emily was never usually this off with her.
"Just peachy." Emily gave her a fake smile, and JJ saw right through it. She grabbed the files and took a seat away from her on the couch, giving plenty of distance between the two of them.
"Do you wan-"
"Just get on with what you need to do Jareau, please." Emily interrupted JJ before she could finish.
"Woah, okay." JJ recoiled slightly at the harsh tone in the older woman's voice. The thought of just getting up and leaving crossed her mind, but she didn't want to piss Emily off even more than she already was, even though she thought her presence was probably the reason she was acting this way.
The following hour was tense and incredibly awkward for both women, JJ racked through the profiles in her head. Once she had finished, she dropped the files in front of Emily and left, whispering a goodbye to her professor before letting the door slam shut behind her. Emily let out a loud groan after she jumped at the noise from the door shutting, hands covering her face.
How long had she been keeping her feelings towards the young blonde to herself, she didn't know. It just happened one day, and she had been hiding them ever since. Hearing JJ say to Spence that they had a date almost destroyed her, she had to use every last bit of control to stop herself blurting out her secret there and then. She thought JJ looked so beautiful in her dress today, and she was looking forward to telling the blonde that when the lesson ended, but the jealousy coursing through her body prevented her.
"Fuck sakes." Emily sighed deeply. She kicked her heels off, tucking her legs underneath herself and let her thoughts simmer in her head for a while longer.
"Pen, she was so pissed. I just want to know exactly what I did wrong!" JJ cried out.
"Can you think of anything that you said that would've caused her mood to switch like that?" Pen asked, trying to help her friend as much as she could.
"No, we were literally talking about study sessions here once a week." JJ groaned, hands rubbing against her face in frustration.
"Maybe she's just having a bad day." Penelope offered a weak smile.
"She called me Jareau... She's never not called me Jennifer." JJ breathed out, head falling backwards and into the wall behind her with a thud. "Ow."
"Come on, don't go giving yourself a concussion over this Jayje. She'll get over whatever it is, just give her the weekend." Penelope joked lightly, hoping to make her best friend laugh.
"Don't worry P, not going to give myself a brain injury because she was cold with me. Hopefully, I don't like not knowing what's going through her head..." JJ shrugged it off.
The weekend went by far too slow for JJ's liking, and for Emily's. Emily was dreading having to see JJ again, only because she knew she was a bitch to the young blonde in their one-to-one. JJ was dreading seeing Emily because she really didn't want her professor to be mad at her for much longer, she hated not knowing whatever she'd do could set her off again. She knew she had to confront the brunette and ask what the issue was if she was still being cold, and it made her heart sink in her chest.
She walked into their lecture hall with a face like thunder on Monday morning, even Derek and Spencer didn't dare look at her for fear that she'd bite their heads off. They knew roughly what had happened, thanks to Penelope keeping them informed, but they knew to leave JJ alone that weekend as the blonde had practically buried herself in her bed, refusing to talk to anyone. She had geared herself for an argument with her professor, building walls to prevent herself from getting hurt, and the frightening expression that she painted on her face came with it.
"Morning JJ." Spencer spoke quietly.
"Morning Spence, Derek." JJ returned.
"You alright?" Derek took a chance.
"Yep. Will be by the end of the day. Wanna hit O'Keefe's tonight?" JJ turned to the tall dark man.
"Sure, need to blow off some steam?" Derek smiled warmly.
"I will. Spence, Pen has refused to entertain my drinking tonight so she might be down for a movie night?" JJ turned to her younger friend, giving him a sweet smile.
"Sure. We'll be there for when you get back." Spencer returned the smile.
"Morning. Test papers are being handed out. I need to go and set another class up as their professor is off sick today. Get on with it." Emily spoke quickly and sternly, dropping the stack at the front and pointing at one of the students in the front to hand them out before turning on her heels and storming out of the room.
"Wow, she seems even more pissed today than last week." Derek groaned loudly. JJ just rolled her eyes, the test paper landing in front of her and she got stuck right in.
She didn't even knock on the door to Emily's office, just waltzed in and took her seat in front of the brunette professor.
"Please, do come in and make yourself at home." Emily raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, you're talking to me now?" JJ shot back.
"When wasn't I talking to you?" Emily returned.
"You barely said anything to me on Friday, you called me 'Jareau'" JJ mocked Emily's voice, feeling the anger within her start to build yet again.
"Do you want to be anymore childish about this Jennifer?" Emily rolled her eyes.
"You- don't call me Jennifer, you lost that privilege last week." JJ sat forward in her seat, pointing at the brunette with a shaky finger.
"Lost the privilege? Ha!"
"I'm leaving." JJ stood up, storming towards the door but was stop quickly by the twisting of her wrist by Emily. "Get the hell off me."
"Stop. You're being ridiculous JJ!" Emily snapped.
"I'm being ridiculous?! You went from being smiley and happy on Friday to looking like you were ready to snap my neck. You gave me no explanation for being so cold, I think my behaviour is perfectly reasonable." JJ explained, still furious.
"How was your date with Spencer? Didn't know you had a thing for underage men." Emily accused, letting go of JJ's wrist.
"My date with Spencer?" JJ spat out, recoiling at the question.
"Awesome, it's a date!" Emily sarcastically copied JJ's comment from Friday, taking a step back from JJ at the same time.
"We were setting up a study session, with Derek and Penelope. How dare you accuse me of dating an underage student." If it were even possible, there would be steam coming from JJ's ear with how angry she was. Emily just shook her head; she had gotten it so wrong...
"Jennifer, I am so sorry. I thought..." Emily tried to backtrack quickly.
"No, you didn't think! God, I can't believe this. Screw you, Emily." JJ snarled, turning around to leave the room again. She didn't think it would escalate to this point and was a little surprised at her own anger towards the brunette that she adored.
JJ was 4 double rum and cokes, 3 tequila shots and a beer into her evening at the bar with Derek. He'd been keeping a watchful eye on her, immensely concerned for his friend who had quite frankly lost her cool.
"Jayje, I think it's time we go." Derek tried.
"Nope. I'm gonna get so drunk I can't see." JJ slurred.
"What the hell happened with you and Emily earlier?"
"She accused me of sleeping with underage teens." JJ let out a small laugh at how ridiculous it sounded.
"What?! Where did she get that idea?" Derek looked incredibly confused.
"She overheard me say 'it's a date' to Spence on Friday." she weakly attempted to hold her fingers up to make the quotation marks, but failed, grasping onto her glass instead and necked the liquid it held.
"She was jealous?" Derek asked.
"Fuck knows. You know what, I don't care. I need another drink." JJ threw her hands up in the end, signalling she was giving up and stumbled over to the bar before Derek had a chance to stop her. It was almost closing time, and JJ ordered another two shots of tequila, shotting them back and deciding she needed to get some air so left without telling her friend where she was going.
Tripping over once she had left through the door, she recovered and began walking down the street. It wasn't busy but it wasn't quiet either, there were enough people around that she could regard herself safe walking around at this time of night, or at least in her drunken state she thought she could.
She didn't have her phone, her bag, or her jacket for that matter. All she knew was that she needed to get home, and home was a 10-minute walk away. It would take her no time, continuing to stumble down the sidewalk. She couldn't even tell where she was, but she estimated that she'd been walking for at least 5 minutes by this point. She was fine until she tripped on her feet again and went flying into the bush next to where she had been walking.
"Jesus fucking Christ!" she spat, struggling to get up out of the shrubbery.
"Do you want some help there miss?" a man's voice made her jump.
"Um, yes please!" JJ shouted.
"Come on, up ya get." he grabbed a hold of her hips and attempted to get her up. JJ wasn't heavy at all, but the guy still struggled slightly. Eventually she was on her feet again and turned to look at the guy.
"Will LaMontagne." JJ snapped.
"Jennifer Jareau, how's my favourite dyke doing?" he chortled, a sick smile covering his mouth.
"Fuck off." she tried to push him away from her, but he still had a grip on her hips.
"How about you give me a chance to show you what you're missing out on." His lips curled into an evil grin, making JJ feel physically sick.
"Get off of me Will." JJ struggled in his grip, wriggling as much as she could.
"No, I think I like my hands where they are... or shall I-" He moved his hand to grab her ass cheek.
"Get off!" JJ screamed. She knew that they were close enough to campus that someone would surely hear her if she screamed loud enough.
"Shut up you filthy dyke." His voice was low and threatening, and JJ was instantly filled with fear.
"Get off her!" JJ heard a voice just behind them.
"She's my girlfriend, she's just drunk man we're fine." Will laughed it off.
"Get the fuck away from her." the voice was just as threatening as Will's had been seconds before, and it obviously scared him.
"Help." JJ began to sob, and at this the figure that was lurking in the shadows walked towards Will. The first thing he felt was the cold metal of a gun against his temple.
"Alright!" Will released the blonde from his fierce grip, holding his hands up in surrender.
"Get the fuck out of here or I'll call my team for backup." the voice snarled.
"You're fucking crazy." Will shot back before turning on his heels and ran down the sidewalk in the other direction.
"Hey, come here. Did he do anything t- Jennifer?"
"Emily?" JJ blinked her tears away, trying to focus her blurred vision on the figure in front of her.
"Yes, it's me. Come on, we need to get you home." Emily wrapped her arms protectively around JJ's body, the blonde immediately falling into the hold and began sobbing again.
"I can't, Pen's gonna kill me for getting drunk." JJ sobbed.
"How much have you had to drink?" Emily asked concerned.
"I can't remember." JJ slumped further into Emily's arms; the brunette was struggling to hold her up enough as it was.
"Jen, I live two minutes away, I need you to help me here." Emily groaned, hoisting the blonde up a little more.
"M'kay."
Emily finally managed to get JJ into her apartment, but boy was it a mission. Between JJ stopping to throw up in the bushes, and then refusing to move because she wanted to hug Emily, it'd taken far longer than she wanted. She guided JJ through her apartment and straight into the bathroom, propping her up against the cabinet and grabbed a glass of water before taking a seat next to the blonde.
"Jennifer, what have you done?" Emily spoke exasperatedly.
"Tequila." JJ mumbled.
"Yeah, that'll do it." Emily let out a small chuckle. She stroked her hands through JJ's hair, sweeping it back into a ponytail and tied it off.
"What did you do to Will?"
"He's not going to come anywhere near you again Jen." Emily began.
"Why?"
"I had my gun..." Emily left it at that, hopefully JJ would get the idea.
"Badass Professor Prentiss." JJ sniggered, "I'm gonna be sick." turning her head quickly and began to retch into the toilet. Emily just rubbed her back, passing her tissues and the glass of water when she was done.
"Bed?" Emily asked.
"Yep. I can walk home." JJ lulled her head backwards.
"Nope. You're staying here." Emily rolled her eyes, standing on her feet and pulled JJ up with her. She caught the blonde before she had a chance to fall over, landing against her front with a grunt. Emily practically dragged her into her bedroom, where JJ flopped onto the bed and was practically asleep as soon as she hit the covers.
"Jesus... Jennifer you can't sleep in your clothes!" Emily groaned.
"I can't move." JJ grumbled.
"Let me help you. Come on, just sit up for me please." Emily pleaded with the blonde.
"Fineeeeee." JJ sat up weakly. She tugged at her own top but failed to bring it any higher than her waist. Emily rolled her eyes again, when was the last time she had to get anyone other than herself undressed. JJ lifted her arms for Emily, dropping back against the mattress when she was free of her t-shirt. JJ unbuttoned her trousers, but didn't get any further, and this is where Emily hesitated. She didn't think it was appropriate to take JJ's jeans off, but she couldn't exactly let JJ sleep in them. The internal battle was won when she realised JJ probably wouldn't remember any of this in the morning. She wrapped her hands in the waistband and yanked them off, throwing them to the side.
JJ laid there in her underwear, and Emily honestly didn't know what to do next. Turning on her heels, she went to rifle through her draws, pulling out an old pyjama t-shirt she'd had for years that was just big enough to cover the blonde modestly. She turned to face JJ and couldn't help but take in the sight before her. She felt wrong for looking, but JJ honestly was one of the most beautiful women she'd ever seen, and she had a beautiful mind as well. She smiled like an idiot at the thoughts flying through her head, they weren't inappropriate in the slightest.
"Like what you see?" JJ mumbled, Emily not noticing her eyes had opened again.
"Uh- I, sorry. Here, let's get this on you." Emily shook her head of her thoughts, moving to JJ's side on the bed. She helped the young blonde up, pulling the tee over her head and helping her arms through the holes.
"I wore that dress for you the other day..." JJ faltered slightly as she was lowered back down to the pillows Emily had propped up.
"You looked gorgeous Jennifer..." Emily smiled warmly at the blonde, catching herself before she had a chance to let her secret slip. "You're gonna regret the headache tomorrow, my little drunkie." Emily laughed lightly.
"I only went to the bar because we fell out." JJ revealed. Emily tensed up, she hated herself for being the cause of JJ's current state. Not wanting JJ to see her upset, she made herself busy trying to find something to wear to bed.
"What do you think of this?" Emily turned with the old t-shirt in her hand, holding it up for JJ to see.
"Hmm... do you have to wear so much to bed?" JJ smirked.
"Jennifer." Emily chuckled, not knowing how else to react to the bold comment.
"What? You're hot!" JJ sniggered quietly.
"You need to go to sleep Jen." Emily looked at the blonde sternly, but it only lasted a second before she started laughing again.
"I will when you join me." JJ tucked her hands behind her head in wait for the brunette to get changed and get into bed with her.
"I'm sleeping in the guestroom tonight." Emily informed the blonde. JJ pouted and donned her best puppy dog eyes at the news.
"Please, Emily. I don't want to sleep alone tonight." JJ genuinely looked sad, and it quickly wore away at Emily's resolve.
"Okay.
"It's been a long time since I've been in bed with such a hot woman." JJ winked, perking up slightly as she began wriggling underneath the covers. Emily raised an eyebrow at the comment, yet not responding. She ducked into the bathroom, quickly stripping out of her clothes and into the t-shirt. She returned within seconds, moving to the free side of the bed and slipping under the covers. JJ immediately clutched onto Emily, pulling her close and wrapping her arms around the brunette's waist, not giving her a chance to do anything to prevent it.
"Jennifer, are you okay?" Emily asked, a little concerned at how tightly the blonde was holding onto her.
"Thank you for saving me, Emily." JJ whispered, just loud enough for Emily to hear.
"That's what friends are for." Emily tried to shrug it off, she didn't want to make a big deal of it whilst JJ was still clearly heavily under the influence.
"Will you stay here all night?" JJ asked, her tone almost childlike and innocent.
"I'll be right here Jennifer. I'm not going anywhere." Emily shifted further down into the bed, getting comfortable.
"You know, I think I could fall in love with you." JJ whispered again. Emily felt her breath hitch in her throat, thankful that it wasn't audible for JJ to catch her reaction to the revelation. She didn't know what to say, so she ran her hand through JJ's hair, comforting the blonde as much as she could in that moment. It wasn't long before she could hear the soft snores from the blonde beside her, and she let out a small sigh of relief. She followed JJ into her slumber moments after, feeling safe and protected by the strong arms clutching onto her.
JJ woke the next morning, and immediately began to panic when she didn't recognise her surroundings. All she knew was her head was throbbing and her chest hurt. She took in the sight around her, the bedroom was unfamiliar, but the scent filling the air wasn't.
"Emily." she whispered, looking next to her in the bed to find it empty. A small frown fell on her face at the discovery, she didn't remember anything that had happened the night before. The bed was incredibly warm, she found it comforting and therefore buried herself further into the covers and closed her eyes again to revel in the feeling.
Emily stood in the doorway just as JJ was snuggling herself back into the bed and she couldn't help but smile. She had slept the whole way through the night, much like she had when they fell asleep on her office couch. Emily decided to make JJ breakfast whilst she was still sleeping, but she had heard the blonde stir before she had a chance to start, returning to her room to see what was happening.
So, there she stood, watching the petite blonde intently move around to get comfortable in her bed, wriggling and then pulling the covers up to her face, almost like she was trying to hide. Then she heard the small moan fall from JJ's mouth, and she almost lost her cool. She thought back to hours before, when JJ had admitted that she could fall in love with her, and it made her heart race. She wanted so badly to slip into the bed beside JJ and cuddle up with her, but she didn't know how much of the previous night the blonde remembered, and she really didn't want it to come across the wrong way.
"JJ." Emily spoke softly, her voice comforting and sweet as she approached the side of the bed the blonde laid in.
"Em?" JJ opened her eyes slowly, blinking a few times before a big smile covered her mouth.
"Good morning." Emily returned the smile.
"How did I get in your bed?" JJ asked, the confused expression on her face made Emily chuckle.
"You don't remember?" Emily tilted her head quizzically, her brows furrowing.
"No... oh god did something happen?" JJ sat up quickly, hand lifting to her head as the dizziness set in instantly. "Shit, my head hurts."
"You're fine, nothing happened, well not really. I'm going to make some breakfast, I'll get you some painkillers for your head, my little drunkie." Emily changed the subject quickly, giving JJ a little wink and smile at the new nickname.
"Little drunkie? Okay, now you need to tell me what happened." JJ gave her a weak smile. Emily helped JJ out of the bed, grabbing a pair of shorts and some socks before leading her towards the kitchen. Once JJ was sat up on the counter, Emily got busy making their food.
"Do you like pancakes JJ?" Emily asked.
"Hmm, yes please." JJ knocked back her glass of water and the pills the brunette had given her, hoping they'd kick in soon. "You keep calling me JJ, did I do something wrong?"
"I jus- I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or think I was taking advantage. I guess it's my way of giving you control over how personal we are today..." Emily divulged.
"I don't think that at all. I like it when you call me Jennifer, no one else does. It's special to me." JJ gave Emily a warm and reassuring smile, showing the brunette that she really was okay with everything that was happening. Emily returned the smile as she began to approach the subject of last night.
"So, do you really not remember anything?"
"I remember getting to the bar with De- oh fuck, Derek! No, no, no. They're going to kill me, where's my phone?" JJ looked around frantically.
"I've rung the college to let them know neither of us will be there today – my phone is there if you want to ring him and tell him where you are?" Emily offered, pointing to her iPhone on the side.
"He's gonna be so mad, I must've just left without any of my things." JJ gulped, already knowing how upset and worried her friends would be at her disappearing act. She grabbed the phone, tapping his number into the device and pressed the speakerphone button.
"Derek Morgan." the low voice boomed through the speaker.
"Derek! It's JJ, I'm so sor-"
"JJ! Jesus, I thought you'd been murdered or something, what the hell were you playing at last night! You just disappeared from the bar, and I couldn't find you!" Derek snapped down the phone.
"I'm sorry! I must've been drunker than I thought. I'm with Emily, I don't remember how or why but I'm safe, I promise." JJ trailed off; she didn't know how she was going to recover from this.
"She's fine Derek, I found her on the streets, and she didn't have her keys, so I brought her back here. I'll drop her back a bit later." Emily reassured the young man through the phone.
"God, I am so mad at you. How could you be so stupid JJ, can you imagine if someone had taken advantage of you?!" Derek warned. Emily gasped at the comment from Derek, JJ snapping her head to look at Emily.
"What?" JJ asked Emily.
"No, nothing. We can talk about it later." Emily shook her head.
"I'm sorry Derek, I promise it won't happen again. Can you just tell Pen and Spence that I'm okay and I will see you guys later. I love you."
"Fine, but I'm still mad at you. Pen is probably going to smack you when you get home, just a warning. I love you too Jayje. Emily, thank you for looking after the little drunkie there, I owe you big time." Derek still sounded stern, but the little joke he made meant that JJ was off the hook a little more than she originally thought.
"Don't worry Derek, it's what friends do right? I'll be round about 6 with JJ, I'll bring dinner." Emily smiled; she thought the peace offering might help diffuse the situation slightly.
"Bye stud." JJ ended the call. She looked up to see Emily staring back at her, an unknown emotional slipped onto her face, but was gone in a second. "Why did you react that way when Derek said about being taken advantage of?"
"Let's eat and we can talk Jennifer." Emily plated up their food and carried it over to her dining table. She pulled a seat out for JJ and then went back into the kitchen to grab a glass of orange juice each.
"Did you steal some of my bacon?" Emily asked, a playful shocked look on her face as JJ took another bite of the rasher.
"I'm a growing girl! I need my meat." JJ sniggered. Emily started laughing at the remark as JJ took another bite.
"Really, you need meat?" Emily raised a suggestive brow. "I've found I do quite well without it..." she winked, "God, that was bad, just ignore that..." she let out a nervous laugh.
"I'm sure that's true, maybe I can find out myself sometime." JJ teased, earning a laugh from the brunette next to her. They sat there in silence whilst they ate, Emily watched JJ intently and it made JJ feel a little uneasy. "I feel like you're my mom right now and I got caught sneaking in past curfew." JJ joked. Emily chuckled at this, knowing JJ was just trying to lighten the mood.
"Well, we need to talk about what happened last night..." Emily started.
"Bits and pieces are coming back to me; I remember ordering shots at the bar and then thinking I needed to get some air." JJ continued.
"Okay, what else do you remember?" Emily asked carefully.
"Hmm, I remember falling over." JJ scrunched her face as she willed her thoughts to become clearer. "And someone helped me up. Was it you?"
"No Jen, it wasn't me." Emily breathed out, not knowing whether to tell JJ what she saw happened or let the blonde figure it out for herself.
"I remember someone calling me a filthy dyke... did someone attack me, Emily?" JJ's eyes filled with tears as she stared at Emily.
"Yes..." Emily revealed. JJ inhaled harshly, the tears beginning to roll down her cheeks as she fought to keep her sobs in. "He has his hands all over you, you screamed out for him to get off and he didn't. That's when I ran round the corner to find you trying to push him away." JJ nodded for Emily to continue. "I told him to get away from you and he told me you were his girlfriend and that you were just drunk. You begged me to help you, so I pulled my weapon and threatened him to leave, or I'd call the police. He ran after that, but I know who it was." Emily finished.
"Who the hell was it, Emily?" JJ asked, voice full of anger.
"Will Lamontagne."
"Jesus, I'm gonna kill him when I see him." JJ threatened, hands clenching into tight fists.
"I think you need to go to the police JJ." Emily suggested.
"He could've raped me Emily, I can't let him get away with that. He could do it to someone else." JJ baffled, shaking her head in disbelief.
"I know Jen, are you okay?"
"I think so... he didn't- did he..."
"No, he didn't have a chance. I got there before he did." Emily reassured her.
"God, I feel sick." JJ held her hand over her mouth, running from the table and to the bathroom in Emily's room. Emily ran after the blonde, finding her retching into the toilet again. She quickly pulled her hair out of her face, rubbing her back softly to try and comfort her as much as she should. Once JJ was done, she sat back. "You saved me from him."
"Anyone else would've done the same had they been there Jennifer." Emily shrugged it off.
"No, don't dismiss it like that. You saved my life Emily, thank you." JJ wrapped her arms around the brunette's waist and pulled her in close.
"Do you want to take a shower? It might make you feel a bit better." Emily asked sweetly.
"If it's not too much trouble, I feel gross." JJ grimaced at the thought of having Will's hands on her body.
"Okay, come on." Emily lifted JJ with her and set about grabbing her a towel and turning the shower on for the blonde before she left the room.
"Your place is nothing like I pictured it..." JJ looked around as she walked into the living area where Emily was sat on the couch. JJ ran her hands over the mantle of the fireplace, taking in the pictures in the frames and the small décor covering it.
"You've pictured it?" Emily asked confused. "What else have you been picturing Jennifer?" she smirked.
"I've had dreams, I always thought it'd be darker." JJ revealed.
"Really?" Emily gave her a flirty smile, wondering exactly what else JJ had dreamed about.
"Yes, you come across so dark and mysterious, I never thought it'd be so light and peaceful here." JJ let out a little laugh.
"I am mysterious to anyone who doesn't know me well, Jennifer." Emily smiled.
"I'm not trying to profile you Emily, I'm just curious."
"What else makes you curious about me?" Emily tilted her head in question.
"Why did me going on a date with Spencer make you react the way you did?" JJ thought she might as well get it all out on the table whilst she had the chance.
"Um, I- god, I hate to admit it, but I was a little jealous." Emily faltered, looking down at her hands as she picked at her fingernails.
"I could never be with Spencer, not only is he too young, but he's also a man." JJ joked, trying to lift the atmosphere of the room. "Besides, I'm interested in someone else anyway."
"Oh." Emily frowned slightly, but it disappeared from her face quickly before JJ saw.
JJ laughed when she did in fact see the disappointed look on Emily's face. "It's you, you dork."
"Really?" Emily shook her head in disbelief.
"I'm not interested in anyone else, Emily." JJ shrugged it off.
"I'm a little surprised to be honest." Emily let out a nervous laugh.
"Why? You do know that half of our class has a crush on you right?" JJ raised an eyebrow; a flirty smirk covered her mouth.
"I mean that's pretty obvious... but I didn't think you did."
"You're beautiful Emily." JJ smiled warmly at the brunette.
"So are you, Jennifer." Emily returned.
"As you said last night." JJ winked.
"You remember that?"
"I do - I also remember telling you that it's been a while since I had a hot woman in bed with me. Sorry for that by the way." JJ gave her an apologetic smile. She walked over to the grand piano situated to the side of the room, running her fingers over the black polished wood. "I didn't know you played."
"I do, mother made me take lessons when I was a child and I fell in love with it." Emily was grateful for the change in subject, lifting herself from the couch and walking to join the blonde who had sat down on the velvet seat.
"Can you play something for me?" JJ gave Emily the same puppy dog eyes she had the night before; and she knew in that moment she'd never be able to say no to her.
"Sure. Anything in particular?" Emily asked. JJ shook her head, giving Emily the freedom to play whatever she pleased. She pondered for a second but knew exactly the piece to play for the beautiful blonde next to her, hoping she would like it as much as she did.
Ludovico Einaudi was one of Emily's favourite composers and pianists, his music made every hair on her body stand on end whenever she heard it playing. 'Night' was the piece she played, and JJ watched her fingers move over black and white keys effortlessly, completely enthralled by every movement she made. As she played the last few notes, she looked at JJ, and waited for the blonde to look at her. When she did, she saw the tears in the corners of her eyes, which sparked her own.
"That was beautiful Emily." JJ choked out.
"I thought you'd like that one." Emily smiled, quickly wiping the stray tear from her cheek.
"You're incredibly talented. There's more to badass professor Prentiss than people realise."
"It's not all wonderful Jennifer, there's still a lot you don't know." Emily shrugged.
"That doesn't matter to me Emily, behind those walls you've built is possibly one of the most weird and wonderful people I have ever met, and I'm glad to know her." JJ grinned.
"You dork." Emily joked, nudging JJ with her shoulder.
"Oh no, that's all you." JJ winked. "Can you play me something from Disney?" she pouted with those famous puppy dog eyes.
"I can try." Emily chuckled.
She began playing Beauty and The Beast, which made the blonde smile so brightly, Emily adored her. She looked so young and happy when she smiled like that, it made the brunette's heart soar with joy.
Emily drove JJ back to her dorm around 6pm, grabbing enough pizza to feed a small army in anticipation for the blonde's friends to freak out and start interrogating her about her disappearing act. As soon as JJ walked through her door, Penelope started.
"Jennifer Jareau, I am going to whoop your ass so hard." Penelope sounded furious, and Emily was a little intimidated until she actually got a look at the blonde.
"Hey, before you start going all ninja warrior queen on her, give Jen a chance to explain herself." Emily cut in before JJ could speak.
"Wow, you're even hotter in person." Penelope shook her head slightly. Emily laughed, putting the boxes of pizza on the dresser.
"Told you." Derek piped up from Penelope's bed. "Jayje, are you alright?"
"I'm fine Derek, as I told you earlier, Emily's looked after me." she looked over to the brunette and smiled.
"We were so worried about you JJ." Spencer walked over to JJ and wrapped his long arms around her tightly.
"I'm fine Spence, I promise." JJ reassured the young man, watching the frown appear on Emily's face and then corrected herself and smiled weakly. JJ couldn't quite shake the cocky feeling she got from knowing that Emily was a little jealous. "Emily saved me from getting attacked last night." JJ started.
"I knew something bad happened." Pen cried out, dropping down on to the side of her bed.
"I stopped him before he had a chance to do anything." Emily reassured the bubbly blonde.
"Who the fuck would do something like that?" Derek breathed out, trying his hardest to control the anger flowing through him.
"Will Lamontagne." JJ informed them, Derek's eyes going wide.
"I will kill him." Derek fumed.
"I don't think he'll be coming anywhere near JJ any time soon." Emily let out a small laugh.
"Why do you say that?" Spencer queried.
"I had my gun to his head; if he knows what's best for him, he'll leave her alone." Emily spoke proudly, but only because she knew it was true.
"Badass Prentiss..." Derek chortled, clapping his hands together.
"That's what I said! She took me back to hers and looked after me, cooked me breakfast, we talked about stuff and now we're here." JJ wrapped up the rest of the story, not wanting to go too much into detail about what they had spoken about during their day together.
"Thank you, Emily." Penelope jumped up from the side of her bed, pulling the older brunette in for a hug.
"Just keeping our girl safe and happy." Emily rubbed Pen's back as she returned the embrace.
"Who wants pizza? I'm starving." JJ beamed, seeming a little happier now her friends knew the situation and didn't react the way she thought they might. They all piped up, making Emily and JJ both laugh as they all grabbed a slice each and got comfortable. JJ sat in her bed, with Emily by her side, sneaking the odd glance at one another, smirking and winking. They had just about finished the food when Penelope piped up from her bed, laptop in her lap and typing furiously.
"Well, well, Mr douchebag Lemontits has a record." Penelope grumbled.
"What? How do you know that?" Emily chimed in.
"Um- I might have hacked the police database..." Pen trailed off; she was as good as busted.
"You hacked a police database? Pen!" JJ looked shocked at the information.
"Penelope Garcia, there's more to you than meets the eye..." Emily laughed, shaking her head.
"You're not going to have me arrested, are you?" Penelope looked nervously at the brunette.
"God no, but I might call in a favour every now and then." Emily winked playfully at the blonde. "What did you find?"
"Fine by me!" Pen breathed out before continuing. "He's taken advantage of girls before, there's 3 that I can see, but he's got a sealed file that I couldn't access."
"Slimy bastard, I knew there was something off about him." Derek scoffed.
"He's a serial rapist waiting to happen." Spencer chimed in.
"Potentially. Is there any way to get in that file?" JJ asked.
"No, you have to go through the courts to gain access to files like that..." Emily tapped her chin in thought.
"What if he's already raped someone?" Penelope looked fearful at the idea.
"Emily, can you take me to the precinct tomorrow?" JJ looked back over to the brunette.
"Yeah, of course Jen. You're doing the right thing; you know that don't you?" Emily tilted her head, offering the blonde a sweet and comforting smile.
"I could never live with myself if he ended up hurting someone..." JJ spoke quietly, head dropping so her gaze settled on her hands. Emily grasped a hold of one, giving her the reassurance she needed.
"Shall we put a film on or something? Might help you get your mind off it for a bit Jayje." Derek suggested.
"Yes please. Put something funny on, I need to laugh." JJ smiled at her friend.
"Okay. Any suggestions?" He looked around the room, Emily and Penelope offering a list of films they could watch, making JJ laugh.
