I'm rewriting this story to try and regain my muse for this fanficiton, I've fallen behind on the anime series. I rewrote The Forgotten Wife and I've been playing the Attack On Titan games on the PS4, my writing muse is coming back slowly over time. I would like to get back into the AOT, it's coming to an end soon which is sad.

Chapter 36!

The Stohess District

Lorna had been stationed alone on one of the many rooftops in the Stohess District, she could see mostly everything from the rooftop where she was located. The district was bustling with life, there were children playing in the streets and people selling their wares on the market stalls. No one would know that soldiers from the Survey Corps were disguised amongst them, they fitted in perfectly.

This town was located on the east edge of Wall Sheena, it's where most of the upper class citizens lived. Erwin had told Lorna a little bit of the district's history, she was intrigued with what he had told her on their carriage journey to the Stohess District. She didn't know much about Royal Government, but she was surprised to learn that they had been the ones who had created The Underground Cities that spread into many underground parts of the districts.

The Royal Government had ordered the construction of an Underground City below this district and others within Wall Sheena. But the plan was abandoned during construction leaving unused tunnels below the city, they had been left to rot away like the citizens of her old home beneath the districts.

Looking through her telescope down at the street below Lorna could see a few familiar faces patrolling the street, they were dressed has citizens. The streets were peaceful for now, she had no idea how Eren and his friends were getting on with Annie. She had last seen them before she had left the headquarters with Erwin and Levi, they had rode out hours before the rest of them.

Lorna checked on her maneuver gear, she had many spare blades and her gas cylinders were full. The grappling hooks on her gear had been replaced though, she had accidentally damaged them when she did a quick training session with Armin yesterday in the headquarter's courtyard. Armin had helped her to replace them in secret, he hadn't told anyone about what had happened to them.

Someone landing next to Lorna on the rooftop caught her attention, it was scout. She recognised his face but she couldn't remember his name, that happened a lot since new recruits joined the Survey Corps weekly. She smiled at him and have him her telescope when he asked to borrow it, she then returned her gaze towards the district while she made a few notes in a small journal Erwin had given her.

" It's quiet, too quiet." The scout said.

" I know, I don't like it neither." Lorna said.

" Let's get a closer look at the street, maybe we'll hear something about the mission." The scout said, he gave Lorna her telescope back. " Are you coming?"

" Sure." Lorna replied.

Lorna put her small journal and telescope away before she readied herself to join her fellow scout on the street below, but some raised voices caught her attention. It wasn't long until she heard a commotion coming from the street on the other side of the building.

" What's happening?!" Lorna yelled, she looked at the scout on the street below her. " Comrade! Tell me what you see?!"

" They've caught Annie!" He called.

Lorna looked across the district, she could see smoke raising into the sky a few streets away from her location. She could hear screams coming from the street below her, the whole district was in distress. She noticed a couple of scouts whizzing passed the rooftop she was located on, she was about to join them before she heard an explosion. There was a powerful gust of wind and an orange light flashed across the sky, that's when she heard a familiar scream echoing across the Stohess District.

" The Female Titan..." Lorna muttered.

Pulling her hood up on her cloak Lorna readied herself to leave the rooftop, but without any warning there was a powerful blast of wind. She was blown backwards towards the edge of the rooftop, she tried to stop herself from falling by grabbing at the tiles of the rooftop with her hands. Lorna felt herself falling towards the street below the building, she had no time to use her maneuver gear to save herself. It had happened fast, there had been no time for her to react.

There were screams and hurried footsteps around her, she could hear children crying. Luckily her fall had been broken by a market stall on the other side of the street, she hadn't realised how far she had been flung from the rooftop. She crawled from beneath the broken stall and collapsed in the street, her eyesight blurred for a few seconds before she rolled onto her back. Her breathing was heavy, she could feel blood running down the side of her face. She needed a moment to catch her breath.

" Lorna, are you okay?!"

Lorna turned her head to one side when she heard someone say her name, it wasn't long until Armin came into her view. He hurried towards her and knelt at her side, he then helped her to sit up. The sight that greeted her wasn't pleasant, there were injured and dead citizens scattered across the street. The scent of blood was strong in the air, the buildings around her were damaged. She heard Armin's voice once again, she gaze soon focused him.

" Lorna, you're bleeding!" Armin said.

" I'm fine, what happened?" Lorna asked.

" The plan failed!" Armin replied with panic in his voice. " We tried our best, but we couldn't win Annie over..."

" And Eren? Where is he?!" Lorna asked.

" He's.. he's trapped in the Underground Tunnels!" Armin replied, there was emotion in his voice. " He couldn't transform into his Titan form, I couldn't help him!"

Lorna's heart sank, she hated the thought of Eren being injured and trapped in the Underground Tunnels. Armin told Lorna everything that had happened, it seemed that Annie had used a silver ring with a small sharp hook hidden inside of it to transform into the Female Titan. Mikasa had gone after Annie with a couple of other scouts, it seemed like the Female Titan was planning on escaping the district.

" We need to stop Annie..." Lorna said.

" Are you well enough?" Armin asked, he seemed concerned for his friend's wellbeing. " Your wound looks nasty, you're injured..."

" I'm fine, I want to help!" Lorna replied.

Armin!

Armin looked above them when he heard someone yelling his name, it wasn't long until a man landed not far away from them. He hurried towards them and revealed his identity, it was Jean. He was dressed in the clothes Lorna had hemmed for him a day ago, the Government probably knew about the plan now.

" Jean, what are you doing here?!" Armin asked.

" I'm here to help." Jean replied.

"But the Government, the trial..." Armin said.

" It doesn't matter anymore, we have bigger things to worry about right now!" Jean said.

" You're right, we need to stop Annie!" Armin said before he got to his feet. " We have to go to the next stage. Hange will need our help with the barrel traps, we need to distract Annie."

" Get up, Lorna!" Jean said before he drew his swords. " We need to stop the Female Titan from escaping the Stohess District!"

Lorna got to her feet and wiped some blood away from her cheek with her cloak, she knew Jean was right. They needed to help Mikasa and the rest of the scouts, the Female Titan needed to be imprisoned. Jean and Armin began running down the street, she soon followed after them before they set themselves into flight. They maneuvered themselves through the streets and soon found their target, the Female Titan was heading towards the wall.

They were joined by other scouts and continued to follow Annie, she managed to dodge their attacks. Annie was strong and graceful, she was unstoppable. Each scout attack led to death or injury, they stood no chance against her unless Eren transformed into his Titan form. Mikasa tried her best, she had tried several times to cut at the Female Titan's nape. Lorna landed on a rooftop to replace her broken blades, but without any warning there was a flash of yellow light.

Everyone's focus was now fixed on the light filling the sky before them, the Female Titan had even paused to see what was going on. Mikasa and Armin had joined Lorna on the rooftop, she heard Mikasa saying Eren's name has the yellow light began to fade. The rooftop under their feet began to shake, something big was coming. They soon heard the screams of Eren in his Titan form, he had finally arrived.

Eren soon appeared, he was running towards Annie. His eyes were glowing bright green and his fists were clenched, he had the Female Titan in his sights. Lorna had never seen Eren in his Titan form, she was amazed at his size. She watched with the rest of the scouts has Eren punched Annie in the face, the force behind his punch sent Annie crashing into a building.

" Eren..." Mikasa said.

The Females Titan soon got to her feet and began running towards the wall again, she was escaping. Eren soon took chase, he didnt plan on letting her get away this time. Annie was soon at the foot of the wall, her hands reaching towards the wall before she readied herself to climb it.

" Don't let her escape!" Jean yelled.

Lorna hurried along the rooftop with her comrades, she watched in horror has Annie began climbing up the wall. Eren soon grabbed at her legs and clamped his jaws around one of them, but Annie soon kicked him to the ground. Eren lay motionless below her while she continued to climb the wall, the Female Titan was determed to escape the district.

" She intents to climb over it!" Hange yelled.

" No..." Armin said with fear in his voice. " She's getting away!"

Hange and Mikasa maneuvered themselves from the rooftop, they planned on trying to stop the Female Titan escaping the district. Mikasa wasn't far behind Annie, she wasn't going to let her escape this time. Mikasa skillfully maneuvered herself up the wall, she used her maneuver gear's hooks to pull herself above Annie's head.

Lorna watched Mikasa cutting at the Female Titan's hands, she had cut Annie's fingers off with her trusty blades. Blood splatter from the Female Titan's wounds while she lost her grip, she was soon falling towards the ground. But Eren was there to greet her, he flung himself at Annie and tackled her to the ground. His jaws soon locked around Annie's nape, he wanted revenge for his fallen friends.

" He's going to eat the girl too!" Hange yelled.

" Eren, no!" Jean yelled.

Eren torn at the Female Titan's nape, blood and flesh scattered across the ground. Eren paused for a moment before some blue stream erupted from the Female Titan's nape, the light was so bright and cooling. Eren roared while his Titan form began to disintegrate, it wasn't long until they saw Eren lying next to something beautiful and unusual.

The dust began to settle, they soon saw Annie lying before them in a crystal casing of some kind. It looked like a coffin, she had somehow used her Titan powers to protect herself from Eren's attack. Hange was the first to approach the crystal casing, she ran her hands along it and stared at it in wonder. It wasn't long until others joined her, they were more fascinated than their superior office at the sight of Annie inside of the crystal.

Mikasa was at Eren's side with Armin, he seemed unhurt. Lorna joined her fellow scouts while Hange asked for some help from a couple of scouts, they needed to get Annie somewhere secure. Hange was about to say something else before she was interrupted by some falling debris from the wall, they all looked up at the wall. The sight that greeted them chilled them to the bone, it's monstrous face staring into the distance.

" There's Titans inside the wall... Titans!" Hange said.

Lorna's eyes grew wide while her blades slipped from her hands, she couldn't believe what she was seeing. The wall before them was cracked, there was a giant gaping hole near the top of the wall. There was a face of Titan peering at them, the scouts were struck with fear. Lorna opened her mouth to say something but Jean beat her to it.

" Are you seeing what I'm seeing?!" Jean asked.

" Titans inside the wall..." Armin muttered.

" This can't be real, it's just a trick of the light..." Lorna said.

" It seems pretty real to me..." Jean said.

Lorna looked at Armin, there was fear in his eyes. Jean's gaze never left the sight before him, he held his blade tightly in his hands in case anything happened. She heard voices from the street behind her, she looked down the street and saw a man dressed in black running towards them. His voice soon broke the silence, his words echoed throughout the street.

" Don't let the sun shine on that Titan!"

A Few Days Later.

Lorna stared out of the window in her new office, the Stohess District had been partly destroyed by Eren and Annie in their Titan forms. The death toll had been high, many soldiers and citizens had been killed while they had tried to catch Annie. It had taken Lorna days to document the names of the dead soldiers, the task had taken its toll on her just like the rest of her comrades.

Hange hadn't left the Stohess District's walls since they discovered the Titans inside the walls, no one had known about them until Annie had tried to escape. But it seemed like there was one person who knew more about the Titans inside of Wall Sina than anyone else, Pastor Nick.

Nick had pleaded that it should be covered up immediately to prevent sunlight from awakening the Titans. Nick knew the truth about the Titans within the walls the entire time, he had been endlessly threatened and questioned by Hange since the discovery. Lorna had witnessed one of Hange's interrogations with Nick in Erwin's office, she had slapped him and thrown a book at his head.

Hange had been working hard, she just wanted answers like the rest of her comrades. She had even been experimenting on the crystal Annie was trapped inside, she hadn't managed to figure it out yet. Lorna had endlessly searched for books about Titans in The Royal Library with Hange, they had somehow gained access to the Palace's library after the Titan discovery. Everyone was after answers, the future of the districts were now in the hands of mankind.

Lorna watched some children playing in the street below the office's window, it felt like some of the citizens had forgotten about what had happened a few days ago. The door to her office opened which caught her attention, she looked over her shoulder and watched Levi carrying a tray of tea into the office. She smiled at him while he closed the door behind him, he made his way over to her desk and placed the tray down on it.

" How's Eren?" Lorna asked.

" He's still unconscious." Levi replied before he took a seat at the desk. " Mikasa hasn't left his side, but my concerns lie elsewhere. The brat is the least of my worries, we have bigger problems."

" You mean the Titans inside the walls?" Lorna asked.

" You're smarter than you look, I'm impressed..." Levi replied.

" You don't have to be so rude about it!" Lorna sighed while she waked over to her desk. " I've been sitting with Erwin and Hange for most of the night, they have been going through reports and history books from The Royal Library."

" And did they find anything?" Levi asked.

" Not to my knowledge." Lorna replied, she sheepishly looked at him. " I ended up falling asleep at my desk, they were both gone by the time I woke up..."

Levi tsked at Lorna, he wasn't too impressed with her mishap. She sat down on the other chair at her desk and opened up her journal, she looked down at the last thing she had written in it before the battle with the Female Titan. She had lost count of how many journals she had owned over the years, the information she kept in them and all the deceased soldier's names she had written down.

So much had happened since Lorna had moved to the surface and joined the Survey Corps, she had lost friends and gained a family. She had found Levi again, but at what cost? The districts were changing, the laws would probably change too at some point since Titan Shifters had appeared amongst them. Lorna's thoughts were interrupted by Levi's voice, their eyes met before he spoke to her. His speaking tone was soothing for a change, there was emotion in his words

" What's on your mind?" Levi asked.

" Everything..." Lorna replied before she closed her journal. " Do you ever miss the life we once had in The Underground City? I know we were surrounded criminals and murderers, but it was our home. We were happy there, it's just I miss our family unit sometimes."

" Those days were easy..." Levi replied, he kept his gaze upon her. " We would have subdued to our crimes in the end, they would have hung us long ago if we didn't agree to join the Survey Corps."

" You're right, I'm surprised I've lasted for this long." Lorna said.

" Speak for yourself..." Levi said.

" I clearly was, Levi!" Lorna said.

A smile graced Lorna's lips for a brief moment before she took her teacup from the tray, she had forgotten how sarcastic Levi could be at times. It had been a very long time since they had sat and just talked together over a hot cup of tea, it reminded her of the old times. She took a sip of her tea and placed it on the desk, she had been thinking about The Underground City a lot since she learnt about the tunnels in the Stohess District.

" Do you think The Underground City still exists?" Lorna asked.

" No..." Levi replied.

" Are you not even curious about it seeing it again?" Lorna asked.

Levi looked away from Lorna, he picked his teacup up from the desk and took a sip of it. He never liked talking about the past, he rarely mentioned Furlan and Isabel anymore. Lorna leaned on her hand and winced when her fingers tips brushed again her scar, she had forgotten about her injury from the battle. She muttered something beneath her breath while she looked at her fingers, she had caused it to bleed again.

" Not again..." Lorna muttered.

Lorna jumped when she felt something brush against her cheek, she hadn't been expecting Levi to wipe some blood away from her cheek with a clean cloth. He leaned in closer towards her and pressed the cloth against the tip of her wound, he told her that one of her stitches had come loose. Lorna tucked some of her hair behind her ear, she didn't want to get any blood in her hair.

" You'll be left with a scar you know, the wound you gained was deep." Levi said before he looked at the blood stained cloth. " But I've seen worse..."

" It's just a scar, it doesn't matter." Lorna said.

" It matters to me..." Levi said.

Lorna"s gaze was drawn to her hand when she felt something brush against it, she was surprised to see Levi's fingers wrapped around her hand. He squeezed at her hand while his gaze remained on her, she smiled softly at him before she slid her fingers between his own. She had no idea what lay ahead of them, but she knew as long as they stayed together they could face anything the future would throw at them.

-This will be my last chapter for this fanfiction, I did want to do more but I've not got the energy to write anymore AonT at this moment. I could do a oneshot or a couple of spin offs in the future when I've caught up with the anime.
