Garmadon sat on his bed, clutching his two favourite teddy bears in his arms. He had been playing a game with them 5 minutes earlier, but had gotten bored with it. Now, he was just sat doing nothing. He would usually go ask his mother or father to play with him when he got bored, but father had told him specifically not to bother him today because he and his mother were extremely busy. With what, he didn't know, but he decided to stick by the rules. If only he had someone else. Someone who could keep him company when mother or father couldn't. Maybe, then, he wouldn't get so bored. Just then, his father's head popped around his bedroom door. "Garmadon, there's something I need to show you." That's all he said and he said with such a serious tone, which made Garmadon nervous. But after he had said it, he smiled. So maybe he shouldn't be nervous? He looked from Michael, his polar bear teddy, and Kelly, his brown bear teddy. He put Kelly on his bed, but kept a firm grip around Michael as he stood up and waddled over to his father. His father scooped him up and held him in his arms, taking him wherever they were going to go. He walked down the long corridor of the monastery that they lived in, but stopped at a halt at his own bedroom. Garmadon watched as he father put his hand on the door handle and slowly opened the door. Inside, Garmadon noticed, everything looked different to how it usually looked. Usually, the double bed would be in the centre of the room, with a bedside table at either side; wardrobes lining to two walls at either side of the room. Now, the wardrobes had been moved to beside the door whilst the bed had been pushed against the left wall with only one bedside table at it's side. On the right side of the room, stood his mother, looking down at what seemed to be...a basket? A basket that was perched on top of planks of wood. His mother turned around and smiled at him, her long brown hair flowing behind her. "Hi, Garmy." She stated as his father brought his closer to the basket. "Why are you staring into the basket, mama?" Garmadon asked her. She just giggled. "It's not a basket, my love." She told him. "It's a cot." He blinked. He had never heard the word 'cot' before. Although, his father had told him that there are several words he wouldn't know at the age of five. "What's a cot?" He asked; his father passing him over to his mother. "It's what babies sleep in, my love." She replied, brushing a stroke of his brown locks out of his eyes. Garmadon cocked his head to the side, curiously. "Why would we need a cot then? I'm not a baby anymore." He said, trying not to pay attention to his father behind him laughing. His mother kissed his forehead. "It's not for you, my love." She said. "It's for your new baby brother." It was at these words that made his heart flutter with joy. "I have a baby brother?!" He screamed. His mother nodded before turning towards the cot which he could now see had a baby lying inside. He looked down at the baby, who looked back up at him and smiled. He reached out one of his tiny fingers towards Garmadon who took it in his own. The small baby giggled, and so did Garmadon. Finally, he had company. Finally, he wasn't alone. He had this boy. He had his brother. "What's his name?" He asked, looking up at his mother and father. His two parents looked at each other before their gaze rested on him. "Wu." His father told him. "His name is Wu." Garmadon smiled, turning to look back down at his younger brother. "Hi, Wu." He said, waving a hand at him. To his surprise, a small hand waved back. "I love him!" Garmadon shouted. "I love him so much!"
Wu laughed. He and his brother had been playfully sparring all day. He ran out into the open courtyard where his father sat tinkering. He would usually do this. Sit silently behind a desk all day making new weapons or scrolls of some sort. He was slightly boring for the First Spinjitzu Master. His brother wasn't boring, though. Garmadon ran into the courtyard just a few seconds after Wu. The two continued to train, aiming their long, wooden staffs at each other; dodging the attack each time. Their father looked up from his work. "Boys," he spoke, startling the two kids. They both turned towards him almost instantly. "Yes father?" They asked, simultaneously. He got up from his chair, walking over to a cabinet on the side of the wall. He opened it. "You've gotten pretty good." He stated. "So good that I am willing to let you train with my most prized katanas." Garmadon let out a small squeal of joy; "Really?! You've never let us train with them before!"
"I know." His father said as he passed Wu the katana he was holding. "I think you two are finally ready." He passed the second katana to Garmadon. "I'll let you train with them from now on. On one condition." At these words, the brothers' eyes widened. "You don't lose them."
"Of course, father!" Wu shouted. "I promise I won't let anything happen to it!" Garmadon, however, hesitated. He didn't want to make a promise he couldn't keep, so he simply nodded. Their father smiled. "Right then," He said, in an unnecessarily raised voice. "Off you go. Quickly. Before I change my mind." The two boys quickly hurried over to the other side of the monastery, and, after watching their father sit down and continue tinkering, they continued to spar. Garmadon struck first, taking Wu by surprise. He had brought the katana down on Wu from over his head, but Wu had blocked it by putting his own katana in front of himself before it could hit him. Wu struck back by attacking him from the side, but Garmadon just dogded his way out of that one. They continued with this for another few minutes and we're having so much fun. Until Wu let his guard down. He had just blocked one of Garmadon's attacks with his katana, but the two were still holding on. It was a 'first-to-let-go' situation. Wu felt his arms go weak beneath him, and before he knew it, the katana had slipped through his hands and had flung over the wall of the monastery. The two boys winced. Especially Wu. Their father had asked them specifically not to lose the blade. And Wu specifically had promised not to lose it. Yet, he just had. And the worst part was that, according to their father, they were both still two young to be exploring beyond the monastery, so neither of them were allowed to go get it. "Well, Wu, go get it." Apparently, this rule didn't apply to Garmadon. "What?" Wu questioned. He had just broken one of his father's rules and now his brother was expecting him to break another? "Go fetch the katana, Wu." Garmadon repeated, not giving a care in the world about how he wasn't allowed. "Garmadon! I can't just go get it! It's outside the monastery. I don't know what's out there! I could be kidnapped! Attacked! Or-or worse!" Wu was not afraid to admit that he was scared. His father must have told him not to go outside the walls for a reason. And that was the scary part. Garmadon rolled his eyes. "Never put off 'til tomorrow what can be done today." He told him. Wu took this into account. He had a point. If he wasn't going to collect that blade today, he'd probably still have to do it some other day. But he didn't want his father to be angry with him. He spent so much time thinking about this. Too much time. He didn't realise just how much time he had wasted deciding on what to do. Eventually, Garmadon got tired of waiting. "Fine." He said, stubbornly. "If you won't get it, then I will." Wu couldn't reply. His brother had already jumped up and over the wall. Garmadon was absolutely amazed by what he was seeing. He had expected something a lot more fascinating than shrubs and trees outside the monastery. All that time, his father had been protecting him from this? He sniggered. He looked around, purposefully ignoring the katana to try and spot something more interesting. Nope. Nothing. He sighed with disappointment. He turned towards the katana and strolled towards it, reaching a hand out to grab it. It all happened so fast. Suddenly, a fairly small, green snake slithered out from the bushes. It sunk it's silver fangs into Garmadon's hand, making him shriek with pain. His eyes met the snake's red ones. It slithered from side to side and Garmadon followed it's movements unwilling. And just like that, it disappeared into the bushes. He just stood there, rocking from side to side. Everything around him started to blurr, and soon, he had collapsed onto the grassy floor below him.
Wu sat on his bed, his arms wrapped in a hug around his own body. He was terrified. 12 hours ago, his father had found his brother collapsed on the floor outside the monastery. He hadn't slept all night. How could he? There was a possibility that his brother, his best friend, was dead. His loud crying had kept him awake anyway. All of a sudden, he heard voices from his brother's room. One voice he recognised as his father's. The other he recognised as his brother's. That meant he was awake! That meant he could stop worrying! He jumped up and ran outside his room, running down the corridor towards his brother. But when he was only inches away from the door, he heard shouting. It was Garmadon. Garmadon was shouting at their father. He had never shouted at him before. Why was he now? He quietly opened the door so that there was a crack he could see and hear through. He gasped. His brother was pale. REALLY pale. A lot more than usual. He looked so sick. He had giant bags under his eyes and, worst of all, had a horrible, sour expression on his face. His father placed a hand to his forehead, which he instantly shoved aside. "Leave it!" He screamed. "Leave me alone!" He was kicking his father now. He seemed to be having some sort of temper tantrum. Only, it was a lot worse than usual temper tantrums that you get from a whiney 4-year-old. "I don't need you!" Garmadon shouted as his father attempted to grab his hand. "I hate you!" At these words, Wu's heart collapsed. Garmadon had never hated their father. They both loved him very much. He was their only parent left, after all. Wu couldn't bear to think about how much pain his father was in after hearing him say that. Garmadon was wincing now; the occasional tear streaming down his face. "It hurts!" He screamed, shoving his father in the chest to get him away from him. Want happened next destroyed Wu completely. Garmadon turned to the door where Wu was stood and in the most aggressive Wu had ever heard him, shouted: "It's all Wu's fault!" His lavender eyes shone a crimson red as he said this, scaring Wu and making him retreat back to his bedroom. He slammed his bedroom door shut behind him, and spent the rest of the day crying his eyes out.
