Part Three

"Are they looking this way?" Cathy asked desperately, trying to keep her head down.

Chloe didn't want to admit it, but when she had taken a glance at the couple, Jamie was staring right at Cathy. "Who cares if they are? You have every right to be here."

"I haven't seen him since before he left." Cathy moaned.

"Wait, for real?" Chloe asked. Cathy nodded.

"He mailed the divorce papers. He was desperate not to see me." Cathy explained.

"What a fucking wimp." Chloe snapped.

"I mean, I haven't really wanted to see him either." Cathy added.

"I cannot believe this guy." Chloe muttered.

"Okay, looks like they are sitting down." Cathy said, relieved.

"Yeah, I'm going to have a word with this fucker." Before Chloe knew what she was doing, she was walking over to Jamie and the other woman's booth.

"Heard you're afraid to see your ex-wife." Chloe snapped.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" Jamie asked, looking around nervously to see if anyone else was listening.

"Cathy's friend." Chloe gestured to a horrified Cathy sitting back at the booth. "She didn't want me to come over here, but I just wanted to ask what kind of a man sneaks out of a marriage with a letter and nothing else?"

"Not that it's any of your business-" Jamie started.

"No, it is my business. Because I care about Cathy and she can do much better than a heartfelt letter good-bye."

"She's irrational." Jamie snapped. "She would go crazy angry; I was worried for myself-"

"What?!" Suddenly Cathy was behind Chloe. "Are you talking about the time that you were going to ditch me on my birthday, and I got angry? Because, newsflash, most women would get a little angry if that happened, especially if they already suspected their husband was cheating."

"Do we really need to do this here?" Jamie continued looking around.

"Apparently we do because you've refused to answer my phone calls and texts so, yeah, I guess we are doing this in public." Cathy snapped.

"Really hope this doesn't hurt your book sales." Chloe said sarcastically.

Jamie sighed. "I just thought it was best we didn't see each other, because I figured you would have trouble letting go of me-"

"Oh, trust me, I've let go of you." Cathy smiled at Chloe and Chloe had a feeling she knew what Cathy wanted and smiled back. In synch, the girls leaned in and kissed each other.

"Ah." Jamie nodded, trying to seem unaffected. "I guess…you have…"

Cathy broke away and grinned at Jamie like Mona Lisa. "Enjoy your food, Jamie." She grabbed Chloe's hand and walked back to their table.

"I hope that didn't make you uncomfortable." Chloe said apologetically once they sat down. "I know that wasn't my place and, God, that probably made things worse between you two-"

"That. Felt. Amazing." Cathy laughed. "Like so amazing. We probably shouldn't have done that, but who the fuck cares? It's not like I had anything to lose with him."

"Well, then I'm glad you could confront him face-to-face." Chloe smiled.

"Me too." Cathy agreed.

It only took dating a few weeks for Chloe to ask Cathy to be her girlfriend. Cathy was beyond thrilled when the redhead asked her during dinner.

"I don't know how I managed to land such a hot and talented acapella star." Cathy teased, giving her a quick kiss.

"Well, you're the future star." Chloe responded.

"If I could ever get an actual callback." Cathy sighed. "I've been to an audition everyday this week with absolutely no success. It's so discouraging."

"You'll get there, Cathy." Chloe assured her. "But I am worried you are focusing too much on your career."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, all you do is work and hang out with me. Don't get me wrong, I love how much time you are able to spend with me, but I think you should make some friends as well." Chloe said gently.

"I mean, if I was doing a project or something and seeing the same people everyday it would be easier, but it's hard to make friends just doing auditions." Cathy responded.

"I mean, my friend Aubrey is going to be in town tomorrow and we are going to go out for drinks with Fat Amy and my friend Stacie. Why don't you come with us?" Chloe suggested.

"It won't be weird, me tagging along?" Cathy asked.

"No, not at all." Chloe reassured you. "God, they've been wanting to meet you because I talk about you all the time."

"You do?" Cathy grinned.

"Oh, all the time." Chloe said, leaning in to kiss her girlfriend. Cathy eagerly kissed her back.

"I feel like we should get the bill, like ASAP." Chloe said murmured before kissing her again, slightly more aggressive.

"Please. Yes. Let's get out of here." Cathy said in between kisses. "Shit, it's going to take everything to not climb on top of you in the Uber."

"Patience, baby." Chloe slowly started rubbing Cathy's leg under the table. Cathy smiled.

"Fuck, that's not fair." She complained.

"Are…are you two ready for the check?" Both girls were suddenly very aware that their waiter was looking very uncomfortable and in front of the table.

"Oh, yes." Chloe blushed and grabbed the check. "Um, thank you." The waiter quickly left. When he was safely out of earshot, both Chloe and Cathy burst out laughing.

"Worth it." Chloe laughed, putting her card on top of the check. "A nice little preview for the rest of the night."

"Damn, I have a hot girlfriend." Cathy said, squeezing Chloe's hand. "I'm so lucky."

"I feel the exact same way." Chloe said, squeezing back. "So lucky."

Cathy must have changed her outfit at least five times. She desperately wanted to impress Chloe's friends and was terrified of what would happen if her friends didn't like her. Cathy knew how close Chloe was with them and how much she valued their opinion.

Cathy finally settled on the pink dress with flowers that she had made a few years before, when she heard a knock on the door. Looking one last time in the mirror, the actress hurried to the door to greet her girlfriend.

"Well, you look hot." Chloe said, giving her girlfriend a kiss. "Are you ready to go?"

"As ready as I'll ever be." Cathy said nervously.

"Don't sweat it, they are going to love you." Chloe reassured her. The couple grabbed hands and started on the short walk to the bar. Chloe froze when they were in view of the bar.

"Oh, shit." Chloe muttered, staring at a short brunette girl who was at the door of the bar. "I am going to kill Amy."

"What's wrong?" Cathy asked.

Chloe sighed and continued walking. "Um, hi." She said awkwardly to the brunette when she reached the door.

The brunette grinned. "I'm guessing by the look on your face that Amy didn't mention she invited me to drinks too, huh?"

"No, she did not." Chloe admitted, then turned to Cathy. "Cathy, this is Beca. Beca, this is my girlfriend, Cathy."

"Girlfriend, huh?" Beca raised her eyebrows. "Well, tonight just got a lot more interesting, didn't it?"
