Thank you for the review. Yes, Mikey's new friend's advice is solid, it's just a question of whether he'll truly have Mikey's best interest at heart or is only looking out for himself.
Now onto the chapter
Chapter 8: Gus – training method
Just like the others Gus had gotten picked up his mom, and they were now on their way to see his doctor. He was getting determined whether he was a fit for contacts or not. He had started thinking about getting an eye surgery, so that he would never have to wear glasses again or begin to wear contacts.
They were now sitting in the waiting room when Gus was getting called in.
"So, Gus what can we do for you."
"We have been talking about getting contact lenses for Gus." His mom said.
"Wait. I was thinking of maybe getting an eye laser surgery, so that I wouldn't have to wear glasses or contacts."
"Okay, what does mom say about it." The doctor said.
"Oh, well, is it safe."
"There are some minimal risks, but it's mostly safe. We just need the parents to sign the papers, but for now let us just go see if you are a good fit for the surgery. Now come with me." The doctor said, as Gus followed him. As it turned out, Gus could get the laser eye surgery, but he would need his parents to sign the papers, so he and his mom could come back Friday after school, as long as both of his parents had signed the papers. Gus' mom would need to talk with his dad about it, but they got a pamphlet to take home.
After they were done at the doctor's, Gus and his mom were in the car and on their way to the mall.
While driving, her mom started talking, and said "why the sudden interest in getting the laser eye surgery. Your father and I agreed to let you get contacts. You always said that glasses did not bother you. I am not so sure that the surgery would be a good idea. Contacts would do the job."
"The glasses didn't bother me in the past, but they could bother me in the future. They can keep from doing several different activities. I think getting the laser eye surgery would be good for me."
"Okay, if you are sure about getting the laser eye surgery, then I will talk to your father when I come home and will let you know our decision tomorrow. We will need to look at the pamphlet some more before making a decision"
"Okay thanks." Gus replied, and before they knew it, they had arrived at the mall. He got out of the car and into the mall, with his mom's credit card,
In the mall, he wasn't quite sure on what he was looking for, so he wandered around different stores, but eventually found a store with clothes he liked. He decided on some baggy jeans, regular pants, t-shirts, sport shirts, sweatshirts, and training pants and shirts. After getting some new clothes, he decided to look for some sneakers and training sneakers. Everything he bought was different from what he used to wear, but he wanted to look like a different person, since he felt like a different person.
After buying some new clothes, he went to go get a haircut, because he wanted his hair to resemble the new him, even though he was kind of scrawny, but he hoped that soccer, laser eye surgery, the clothes and haircut would all change that. He wanted to be cool for once since he had always been considered a dweeb by others. Once he was inside the salon, one of the stylists asked him what he wanted, and he explained that he wanted the bottom and sides to be cut, so it would look messier and spiker, and he wanted a darker color for his hair. The stylist then began to cut and dye his hair. After getting a haircut, Gus felt hungry, so he went to the food court to get a hotdog to eat.
Once he was one at the mall, he went home.
"I'm home." He said, before walking into the living room to greet his parents.
"Hi mom, dad."
"Son." His dad said.
"Oh Gus, what did you do to your hair." His mom said.
"Oh, my hair. I just changed it. I needed a change. I also bought some new clothes." Gus said, as if it wasn't a big deal.
"Oh well, as long as you're happy. Oh, and your father and I talked, and we agreed to let you have the laser-eye-surgery, so tomorrow your father can take you to the doctor, and Friday you can get the surgery after school, so that you can have the weekend to recover." His mom said.
"Oh wow, thanks. Oh, and dad, I was thinking if you could put together a training program for me."
"Sure, no problem. Tomorrow after your visit to the doctor, I will take you to the training ground, and we can train there. Just put on some training clothes tomorrow, so that we can train after your visit to the doctor." His dad said.
"Thanks dad."
The rest of the day passed by, with Gus cleaning out his clothes, and replacing them with the new clothes. He then put the old clothes in a plastic bag and would donate it to goodwill once all of the clothes were washed and dried.
The next day, after the visit to the doctor, and setting up an appointment, Gus' dad took him to an obstacle course, and then started talking. "Okay son, I want to see how long it'll take you before you can finish this course. You wanted a program to help you train. Well, here you have it."
The course consisted of climbing, running, jumping, and crawling. It was the kind of course that the military used. Gus took a deep breath before starting the course. He hadn't gotten that far before he gave up. He had struggled with it.
"Okay, I give up. I can't do it anymore." Gus said.
"Well, you only just begun, but with my training, you'll be able to complete it with no problem in 2 months. Anyway, you used about 1 and a ½ hour on three things. Well, let's go home. You have a busy day tomorrow, what with trying out for the soccer team." Gus hoped his dad was right, because it would be great if he wasn't so scrawny anymore.
And with that, they went home.
