Mom, How do I look?

Gabriella looked away from the stove to look at her daughter. It was a week since Gabriella met Zac's parents and tonight, they would come over to dinner. They agreed to do a simple dinner, but Nora was very nervous since Gabriella told them that their grandparents would come over Saturday which was tonight.

'You look stunning sweetie.'

' Are you sure? I really want to make a good impression on them. I mean, when Zac told us he also has a sister and they have kids too. I just want..'

Gabriella took her daughters face in her hands and kissed her on her forehead. 'Relax. It will be all fine. They will love you. Just like I love you.'

She feels her daughter relaxing after the kiss and the words her mother spoke. 'Alright. Are you okay? I overheard you on the phone about a simple dinner but. ' She looked at the several pots and pans on the stove. 'This doesn't look like a simple dinner.'

Gabriella giggled. ' I might do too much but. They are coming over for dinner. Food is my passion, my work. I can't just make a simple hamburger or something. I have to make a good impression as well.'

' They will love you, like I love you mom.'

Gabriella laughed. ' Smartass.'

She hugs her daughter and pushes her out of the kitchen. 'Now go away, put on those high heels you bought last week and check if your brothers are ready as well. Once you guys are done, I can go upstairs to take a quick shower and get dressed. '

'What are you planning on wearing mom?'

' I was thinking about the cute blouse I bought last winter with the black flaired pants.'

'okay, stop right there. I know food is your passion, but when it's comes on clothing I am the professional. Just finish cooking and I will get some clothes for you to wear.'

And with that Nora runned off. Gabriella yelled after her. ' Sweetie, don't overdress me please!' I don't want to give Zac or the others a wrong impression.' She whispered that last sentence because she didn't want her kids to hear that.

To be honest. Since Gabriella agreed to have a 'simple' dinner. She didn't sleep well. Thankfully she had her work to get her mind of off it although that was also a bit harder since Stella was constantly crying about the fact that Zac sort of left her. That's why she decided to give Stella a few days off. And that was a good choice. Also a simple dinner wasn't possible in Gabriella's dictionary. After work she stayed in her restaurant to think about new recipes to make and serve on that night. And since yesterday evening, she was finally happy about what she was planning on making.

'hopefully they like meat or scallops.' Gabriella said biting her lip.

Nora walked into the kitchen with a smile. 'Mom, we are all ready. Are you?'

Gabriella looked into the pots and pans and smiled happily. ' Yes I am. Can you only stir in this pan every once and a while? Otherwise it will sift.'

'Sure mom. Now, go upstairs and put on the clothes I lay down on your bed.'

Gabriella smiled and walked upstairs. She walked directly into the shower to let the warm water massage her back. She was nervous and stressed. If she could switch with her colleagues tonight who were serving for a full restaurant, she would do it in a heartbeat.

She washed herself and got out of the shower. Dried herself with a towel and walked into her bedroom. Once her eye spotted the outfit her daughter picked for her she sighed. Apparently Nora thought it was time to shake things up.

'Nora?' Gabriella called.

Nora walked into the room. 'Yes mom?'

Gabriella hold up the dress. 'Who's dress is this? It's not mine and it's definitely not yours. How did you get this?'

'Mom, don't get mad but me and Shar went shopping yesterday and we both decided that you deserve a dress like that.'

Gabriella sighed. 'Sweetie, I don't know what you and Sharpay are thinking but this dress screams something I don't want people to think. Is this because of Zac?'

Nora looked down. 'I just want him to see what he's missing the last 15 years. '

Gabriella hugged her daughter. 'Sweetie, I really appreciate it. I will put on the dress because you bought it for me. But Zac and I.. That's a whole different story. Right now it's the best that he focus on you 3. '

'I just want you to be happy mom'

' I am happy. I have you and your brothers in my life. Okay, I will get dressed and I'll see you soon.'

'Okay mom. Don't forget to put on those heels I bought you as well. Bye '

Nora runned out of the room. Gabriella laughed and indeed saw a shoebox as well. She opened it and gasped. Those were way to high for her. But she will put them on anyway. When Gabriella looks in the mirror after she got dressed she gasped again. The dress fitted her body perfectly. Her curves, the length just above the knees and the perfect cleavage. She applied her makeup and finished her look with accessories when the doorbell rang. Once again, Gabriella looks at herself in the mirror. Takes a deep breath and went downstairs.

Nora opened the door to see Zac standing there.

' Goodevening Nora. You look beautiful.' Zac said with a smile and handing over flowers.'

Nora takes them, sniffs and smiles. ' Hi Zac, thank you for the flowers. You look cleaned up as well. Any particular reason why?'

' I just want to make a good impression.' Zac said when he walked in the house. He turned around and. ' Nora, may I introduce you my parents and your grandparents. Jack and Lucille Efron. The woman behind them is my Sister Abby, her husband Peter and their 2 adorable daughters.'

Nora looked at the people behind Zac and smiled shyly. ' It's nice to meet you all. '

Lucille smiled with tears in her eyes and hugs her oldest granddaughter. 'It's nice to meet you too. You look so much like your father but also like your mother. Perfect.'

Nora wrapped her arms around the older lady and inhales her scent.

'What are you doing Nora?' Jack said looking at her.

'Just making memories' Nora said after pulling back.

Jack laughed and pulls her into a hug as well. 'It's nice to meet you.'

Nora giggles. 'Come on in everyone. I bet my brothers would hate me if I keep you all too long for myself.'

'sounds cocky. ' Abby said with a giggle. 'I recognize that behavior. '

Zac laughed. ' I'm proud'

They all laughed and walked into the living room where Fynn and Luka were. The brothers smiled identical as the family walks in. Abby's eyes widened when she sees the triple standing together as Nora stands next to her brothers. 'This is so weird. When Zac told us that he was a father of 3 kids I just didn't believe him. I just didn't. But you look so much like him.'

'Wait until you see my mom. We also kinda look a lot like her.' Luka said.

He just finished his sentence when Gabriella enters the living room and Zac's jaw dropped. She looked stunning. So, not like her but it suits her perfect. She smiles when they all look at her.

'Okay, please stop staring or I will just change in my sweatpants and sweater.' Gabriella laughed.

Abby walked up to her and hugs her. ' If I knew that earlier I would have done that. These heels are killing me! But Zac and Pete my husband insisted to look nice for a good impression.'

Gabriella laughed. ' I had the same idea. You must be Abby. I'm Gabriella. '

'it's really nice to meet you Gabriella.' Abby smiled.

As everyone met the others, they sat down on the couch for small talk. Gabriella sat next to her children who were clearly thrilled by the fact that they had more family. This was something they really inherited from Gabriella. Especially Nora who was having conversations with her nieces and they loved her already. It didn't take long before she was forcing to make some drawnings on the ground which she happily did. Gabriella looked at her and smiled proudly.

' Your house is beautiful Gabriella.' Pete said.

'Thank you Pete. I'm really happy with it. I had to do a lot of renovations but for example the kitchen was way too small. So I made the living room smaller and my kitchen bigger. I mean, me as a professional chef need a good sized kitchen right. ' Gabriella giggled.

Pete laughed. ' I totally agree.'

Gabriella stood up. 'If you will excuse me. I will check dinner. It will take about 15 minutes before entre is done.'

'entre?' Zac said. 'I thought we would have a simple dinner? Why do I get the feeling that my simple and your simple are two very different things?'

Gabriella laughed. ' because that's probably what is it. I hope you like fish or meat. I couldn't decide what to do so I have entrees, 2 main and 2 dessert which is chocolate and a caged cake with lemon and raspberries.'

Gabriella, you..' Lucille and Jack started.

'Leave it. ' Luka said. 'We tried to talk her off this idea but cooking is her life. She really though this through. She even stayed late in the restaurant to think about the perfect menu for you guys. '

Gabriella's face turned red. 'Well, I'll check the food and I'll be right back. '

Gabriella practically runned to the kitchen. Luka and Fynn laughed.

'it's always fun to see mom embarrassed. ' Fynn said.

Zac stood up with a laugh. ' I'll go check if she needs help. Can you guys help set up the table or?'

'Already been taking care of. We are eating outside underneath the roof in the backyard. Mom had placed a huge table there last week and we decorated it with lights and there is also a fireplace.'

'wow, your mom is prepared for everything'

'Well yes, she had too. She has been doing it since we were little. I never saw mom unprepared.' Fynn said.

Zac felt a flash of guilt go through him. ' I'll be right back.'

Zac walked into the direction Gabriella disappeared. Only to smell the most delicious flavors coming out of the kitchen. His stomach started to make noises. He followed his noise to see Gabriella above the stove stirring in a pan. He walks over to her.

' Okay, this kitchen is huge. Isn't this a little too much?' Zac laughed.

Gabriella turned around and shrugged. 'Maybe. Maybe not. I really like it that's so big. Sometimes we eat in the kitchen instead of the dining room. For me it's a second living space. I love being here.' She turns back around to check her sauce. '5 Minutes.'

Zac walks up to her to stands close to her. He sees lights in her face. Although the room was filled with delicious flavors he could smell her. And she smelled delicious too. 'You look stunning did you know that?'

Gabriella shivered when she feels Zac close. She's afraid to turn around. ' Tha.. thank you.'

'Is there anything I can do for you?'

Oh, I know what you can do for me. She thought. But instead she answered. 'Well yes, Can you get 9 plates for me? They are down there in that draw. I have something else for your nieces because I don't think they like thin sliced duck breast with a red wine sauce. So I got them French bread with vegetable soup as an entre.'

'coming right up.'

Gabriella watched how Zac grabbed the plates. Why does he look so freaking handsome? Gabriella thought. Zac comes back and places the plates on the counter. As he looks at her and smiles. She feels her knees go weak. She quickly grabs the counter to keep her balance.

The food was perfect. Gabriella had outdone herself with her menu. Jack, Lucille, Zac, Abby and Pete got enthusiastic every dish Gabriella gave them. The kids were full and playing on the basketball field in de backyard.

' Gabriella please send me a bill for this delicious food when we are going home. I feel bad for not paying for this. You definitely earn your Michelin star. Even 2, 3 or 5 in my opinion. You can cook. It's amazing.' Jack said rubbing his belly.

Gabriella giggles. 'I'm glad you liked it Jack. I'm really pleased myself and trust me, I'm not easy to please when it comes to my own food.'

Pete nodded. 'Absolutly perfect Gabriella. Same time next week?'

They all laughed.

'I'm more than happy to cook for you guys. No problem. But don't get mad at me if I decide to make just a simple hamburger.'

'The kind of food we all thought we would eat tonight?' Zac said with a laugh.

They all laughed harder and Gabriella playfully slapped his upper arm. Zac grabbed that hand and intertwined their fingers together. Gabriella looks into his eyes and maybe it was the wine and the fact that she was full because of the food but her insides were on fire.

'Mommy' I'm tired, can we go home soon?' Susan asked with a yawn.

Gabriella immediately let go of Zac's hand when she heard that little voice and her face turns red. Abby kissed her daughter and got up. ' Of course sweetie. Come on Pete. Do you grab Maddie? We are going home. Gabriella I had a wonderful evening and I'm sorry we have to go but the girls..'

Gabriella hugs her. 'No I completely understand. I'm really happy that you guys liked it. I hope we can do to again sometime.'

Pete hugs Gabriella too. 'We definitely will. I'm really glad you are part of this family. Zac made stupid mistake 15 years ago but I'm happy it turned out this way.'

'We do too Gabriella' Lucille said. 'Can I help you with the dishes?'

'Oh no, you don't have too. I will clean this up later. 'Gabriella said with a smile.

Jack and Lucille got up as well. ' Are you sure?'

'positive'

'Okay, we are heading home as well.'

Gabriella hugged Jack and Lucille and waved them all goodbye. She grabs all the dishes and walks to the kitchen to place them in the dishwasher. As she turns around she bumps into Zac who had some wineglasses in his hand who immediately fell on the ground. The glass shattered everywhere.

' Oh my god, are you alright? I didn't cut you anywhere right?' Zac said worried.

Gabriella checks her body to only see a cut on her leg. 'Only on my leg but that's fine. I'll get a band aid later. '

'No let me. Where do you have them?'

' right up there.' Gabriella points.

'Alright, well let's get you up here. ' Zac said and he picks her up and places her on her kitchen table. Then he grabbed the first aid kit. He cleans up the wound and places the band aid on her leg.
