The flight got Robert and Anna to Bonita in a quarter of the time that driving would have. They worked their way around the town, stopping people in the streets to show them pictures of Emma and ask if they'd seen her.

Their canvas of the town led them to European fusion bistro, where they finally agreed they needed to stop for a bite to eat.

"We'll show the waitress Emma's picture, see if anyone has seen her around here." Robert said, lacing his fingers through Anna's and pressing a soft kiss against her knuckles. "Maybe we will see if we can ask some of the other workers as well."

Anna's eyes were casing the restaurant and admiring its rustic Spanish decor when she suddenly gasped. "Oh my God. I don't think we are going to have to do that."

"What?"

"It's her." Anna whispered. "Emma's here. With a grown man. To our right, over your shoulder. Don't look obvious."

"What do you mean don't look obvious?" Robert asked incredulously. He dropped Anna's hand and started to stand as he looked behind him. "I'm going to march up to that young lady and drag her arse back home, but that's only after I knock this guy's lights out."

Anna pulled down on his arm to get him to sit back down. "Let's just see what she's doing first."

"Are you crazy?" Robert hissed. "You're going to let our teenaged granddaughter sit and talk to that thirty-year-old man?"

"I want to get a feel for what their relationship is and what she's doing here with him." Anna explained.

"And I want to punch first and ask questions later." Robert countered.

"I just want to watch them."

"Sure, that's all well and fine until he takes off with her." Robert scoffed.

"What is he going to do, Robert? We're both sitting ten feet away, fully armed. If he tries to go out the door with her, we'll neutralize him."

"Fine." Robert was still hesitant. "What are they doing?"

Anna watched her granddaughter as she interacted with the man. From the angle where she sat, she couldn't see anything about the man's features except for his short brown hair.

"They're talking. They appear cordial, but not overly friendly. Nothing that suggests they have a romantic relationship. Of course, they are in public... They're looking at something on one of their phones together."

"He better not lay a hand on her." Robert said, his jaw clenching.

"He's not." Anna assured him.

"What could he possibly want with her that isn't nefarious? She's sixteen years old."

"I don't know, but..."

Anna stopped speaking abruptly as Emma suddenly looked up from the cell phone. Their eyes met, and Emma's jaw fell open. The man turned and looked over his shoulder to see what she was gawking at. Both Robert and Anna immediately stood to approach their table.

"Grandma. Grandpa." Emma's eyes went wide and her face paled.

"Emma." Robert crossed his arms and eyed her sternly.

"This is... Um. Well..." Emma stammered awkwardly, looking back and forth between the man and her grandparents. "He's..."

While Emma continued to stutter, Anna approached the man wordlessly with her brow furrowed. Robert followed closely behind her. As she analyzed the mystery man's face, she couldn't quite put her finger on it, but there was something very familiar about him. The curve of his jaw, the point of his nose, the bend of his smile...

It was impossible.

His hair was darker, but his eyes sparkled a familiar shade of blue. It was like she had stepped forty years into the past, but that was impossible. The man she thought she was seeing in front of her was right behind her. Anna felt her world shifting on its axis.

"R-Robert?" Anna stammered.

Everything went black as she slumped back into her ex-husband's arms.
