Chapter 1

A young boy walked aimlessly through a forest. Shaking the shrubs and greenery as he passed. Curious, Pokémon peeked out from bushes and trees looking at the boy, his eyes were clouded and he was muttering to himself. Something was definitely on his mind. The boy Sighs before sliding down the base of the tree and into a sitting position. "I can't believe the professor ran out of Pokémon..." well actually he could believe it. He just didn't want to. Professor Pine only had a limited number of starters to give out and since he was neither family to the man nor rich he was close to last in line.

Now, most of the time you can beat this by being extremely early but unfortunately, luck was not on his side this morning.

Liam woke bright and early. So early that the sun barely shone and the pidges just started their morning songs. And even though Liam felt like nothing more than going back to sleep he knew that he couldn't. For today is his chance. He picked up his bag and ran out the door. His chance to finally become a Pokémon trainer.

He's been waiting eleven whole years for this and now finally his destiny lies ahead of him.

But on his way to professor Pine, a group of boys turns the Connor Pokémon in hand. Liam stops. "Why if it isn't Liam?" "What are you doing up so early ?" Liam asks, eyes narrowing. "Well, we were so excited about getting a Pokémon we thought it was a good idea to come early."The tallest one answered with a tasteless smirk. "What about you going to follow in your father's footsteps? Become a disappointment just like him." The stocker one sneered. Liam's fist clenched. "I'm nothing like him... and I'll prove it when I get my Pokémon so scram." Liam try to push past them but the stocker boy grabbed my arm "Why don't we teach him a lesson, boys''

-Liam's Pov-

... it was much much later in the day when I was finally able to make it to professor pines lab. Covered in bruises and with a tired disposition. But when finally made it inside the lab, the only thing that greeted me was a sad "I'm sorry Liam but I'm fresh out of starters. you should have come earlier" I wanted to scream to yell, that it wasn't my fault that it wasn't fair. But I didn't because only weak trainers whined and complained...

though I guess thats what I'm doing now huh? Sulking in the forest, like a total weirdo. What am I some sort of fictional bad boy? I scoff at my dumb joke and push myself to my feet. I really wanted to be a trainer, to prove people wrong, to experience new things, to make new friends. And however unfortunate that, that dream won't come true right now. But sulking about it won't do any good.

I brushed the grass off my shorts and was about to make my way home when I heard a sudden cry from the lake a few feet in front of me. Running over to the sudden sound. A push of a branch revealed Evergreen lake and around a dozen wild pokemon crying and screeching around it. Woah I've never seen a gathering of this many pokemon here, much less this many of differing species.

Getting closer I realized the pokemon seemed to be focused on something in the lake. Carefully moving forward (as not to aggravate the wild pokemon) I see that suspended in the deep near the raging rapids, was a … Vulpix!?

And it looked like it was drowning! Taking a quick look around I realized there was nobody that could help but me. Town was about a 10-minute run and there's no way this Vulpix has enough time to last this long. I have to do something, because of that pokemon.. It's going to die. Taking a deep breath I run up to where the wild pokemon are, and before any said pokemon could put up a fight about my approach, I jump into the river. The current was strong and the water was freezing. It took a little bit of maneuvering but I was finally able to swim to where the Vulpix was. Taking one last gasp of air I dive under the water reaching for the pokemon I was training to save.

Sand and dust swirled around me caught in the current, making it extremely hard to see. But after some blind prodding, my hand brushed something soft. Quickly I grabbed it as gently as I could and hauled it to the surface with me, making sure its head was above the water. Coughing and gasping for breath I felt the pokemon against me do the same. " Holy Arceus you're alive! I-I Did it! I actually did it!" my celebration cut short as a particularly strong current and a poorly timed rock sent me flying backward, into the rapids.

I was sent sprawling down the rapid fighting to keep both my head and the Vulpix head above the water. My arms and legs ached and my lungs burned unhappy with the little air I managed to get in before I was plunged back into violent waves. I tried to find any sort of leverage, a rock or a sallow area; but the river was too deep.

An indescribable amount of time passed with me fighting just to keep our heads above water when I saw a boulder in our path about 10 to 15 feet in front of us. Desperately I try moving, kicking, and flailing furiously but to no avail. Finally preparing for impact I wrap myself around the Vulpix making sure it's heads above water until the final moment. I just hope at least that Vulpix can make it out alive. At least then I wouldn't be such a failure… I just wish I could be a hero, just once. Prove that I'm not my dad.

With those thoughts floating through my mind I close my eyes and brace for impact.

I'm sorry mom, I guess I left you too huh?

I heard a loud bash and pain blared in my head and back. And with that, everything turned black

Two figures lurk in the shadows watching the events unfolded.

"The Vulpix" I begin "It is important to our plans is it not? " I ask.

"Quite so. We can't have her dying her so far away from her goal?"The other responded.

"I see. And the boy?"

"..." The other fell into silence before beginning, "Such a tragedy, especially with a heart so pure… Gods knows that this world is in use of a little more empathy."

"...Does that mean?" I ask.

"Well, it is our fault he got into this situation. We might as well…"

"I see… Well, I wish the Vulpix and the boy luck. They are going to need it."
