Chapter 13

Michael

Rider looked perfectly comfortable as he walked through the halls. I, on the other hand, was ticking that crazy. To try and keep calm, I looked at the back of Rider's head, watching his fair hair bounce slightly as we walked along.

There are eight Elgen here, so maybe if we all take care of one we can escape? I thought desperately.

That was about when Rider stopped dead in the middle of the hall. I crashed into his back, nearly toppling him over. That was also when I felt my RESAT power down. Rider looked over his shoulder and winked.

"Keep moving," one of the guards poked Rider with his gun.

"Yes, sir," Rider grinned.

His hands were still tied behind his back but Rider still managed to surprise the guard with a hard kick to the leg. The guard fell to one knee and Rider managed to spin around and grab the falling gun with his hands.

"Now!" he shouted at me.

My hands were still tied in front of me, only for a moment before I melted through the bonds with ease. I made a pushing motion while pulsing and knocked one of the guards out with an electric pulse.

"We need back up!" one of them shouted into their walkie talkie.

Alex turned around with the gun and shot off a few rounds, causing the guards to duck down in fear.

"Can you get me out of these?" He looked at me and then his bonds; his brown eyes were filled with an excited energy. "We've got stuff to do."

He rattled off a few more shots before running off.

"Do we follow him?" Taylor blinked.

The Elgen guards had taken cover behind a wall and the Electroclan was sort of left in the hall wondering what to do.

"He seems to know what he's doing," Jack agreed.

"It's our best shot," Zeus tapped his RESAT. "He seems to know how to get these off too."

I looked at my own RESAT before tearing it off and dropping it on the floor.

"He hasn't given us much of a choice has he?" I sighed. "Let's go."

And so the Electroclan and I raced after the mysterious boy.

Alex

It was quite simple really. The Escape. Weirdly enough, Smithers had prepared for those devices, although in a much different context.

"We're not quite sure what this is supposed to be," I could hear Mrs. Jones saying, the strange machine on the table. "We got it from an intercepted vehicle that was stolen from the Elgen. We're not quite sure why the Elgen need it. It honestly appears to be useless other than to suck up electricity. It may be some sort of defense against electrical based technology."

"And that's why ol' chap," Smithers had put a ring on the table with a flourish. It was a simple band of gold. "You're going to need this! It's a disruptor of sorts. It will turn this off for you and you can continue on your merry way."

I had to smile at that. MI6 thought the device was to defend against electrical gadgets but instead I came to find that it was to guard against electrical people. The idea was still quite shocking to me. And turning that device off proved to be useful. All I had to do was stop and press the little gold ring to the device and it shut down without trouble.

I raced through the halls, hoping that the other kids would follow me. It was rather unnerving having people that could potentially electrocute me to death following close behind, but they were also kids, like me.

Unfortunately, it didn't take long for the emergency lights to turn on, a siren blaring like an agitated toddler. I continued to run, trying to retrace my steps back to a place I knew was somewhat safe.

There's no such place in a situation like this. I thought. So where's somewhere I can at least change.

I could almost hear Sabina laughing at me if she saw me in such ridiculous attire. I looked behind me for a moment and saw the other kids right behind me.

At least they have some good sense.

We raced through hall after hall before stopping at a single door. I pressed the ring to the panel and the door slid open. I gestured for them to follow. We had a lot to discuss.

Are they gonna be friends? Are they going to work together?! Whose the freakier person? Who knows! We're going to get some good ol' team work soon though!
