Chapter 7: Obstacle race, Cavalry Battle, Battle Tournament part 1
"Ready?! Go!" Midnight said from the stage. Everyone began to run to the other gate at the end. Because of the narrow corridor, the competitors were having trouble heading to the other gate. Jack on the other hand didn't have any problem heading to the exit since he was running on the walls of the corridor. This made Jack the first person to get out of the exit.
"Wow! The first person to get out of the narrow hall is Hamada everyone! How did he do that?" Present Mic said from the comment booth.
"His quirk is related to spiders, so he could just run on the walls of the narrow corridor, giving him the advantage to pass the crowding students." Aizawa said in the comment booth.
"Spectacular! But what is this?! It seems that there's one person who managed to get out of the first obstacle like Hamada!" Present Mic said.
While still running Jack looked at his back to see Todoroki, not far from him. Todoroki is using his ice to go faster, but as a result, he freezes the floor so that the other competitors get trapped by his ice.
"It seems that your student Shota freezes the floor so the other can't keep up with him!" Present Mic said.
"Reducing the odds… smart" Aizawa said.
Meanwhile with Izuku. His feet were trapped by the ice that Todoroki has emitted. He looked at the others and they were too trapped also. Izuku checked the ice and it was not too thick, meaning he could break the ice with his quirk. Immediately he activated his quirk and jump to the walls in a zig-zag motion. Izuku managed to get out of the narrow corridor with some of the class 1-A also which consisted of Bakugo, Momo, Kirishima, and Aoyama.
"Oh! It seems that some class 1-A managed to escape the first obstacle!" Present Mic said.
"Jeez… not so loud, I need to sleep," Aizawa said.
With Jack he continued to run after he saw that his classmates weren't far behind where he's running. Jack was about to run faster when he felt his spider-sense tingled, he dodged at an instinct as a green familiar robot attack him, he then kicked the robot and instantly destroyed it. He looked at his front to see an army of robots blocking Jack's way. There were 1 to 3 pointer robots, also the all familiar zero-pointer.
"Welcome to obstacle number 2! You might remember the robots from the entrance exam, but the zero pointers are the ones that you need to avoid and there's one robot that made you want too squirm in fear! Robo-inferno!" Present Mic said.
The robots then marched forward to Jack, but it proved futile as he only need to parkour through them. The first robot he encountered begins its attack, but Jack backflipped and then he gave a powerful venom punch to him, causing it to blast away and knocked the other robots behind. Jack then continued to run and dodge or attack the smaller robots. After that, he saw the towering zero-pointer.
The robot saw Jack and it immediately attack him. Jack side-stepped the attack and run-up to the robot's head.
'Don't need to destroy it, just need its electricity to cause enough discharge to propel me to the next obstacle.' Jack thought as he runs. The robot saw Jack running on his body, it tried to swat Jack away, but Jack dodged it and land on the arm that the robot used to attack Jack. Then Jack continued to run at his arm. The robot was about to attack Jack again when Jack shot a venom bolt at its eye. The robot has been blinded and it gave Jack the opportunity to Jump at his head, then he drained the robot's electricity in his head and let out a discharge. The results were the feedback of a boom that propelled Jack into the air.
"Wow! Look at the spider go! How did he do that?!" Present mic said at the comment booth.
"He used the feedback from the discharged he released to propel himself to the air," Aizawa answered him.
"First a spider quirk and then manipulation in electricity?! This little listener is a force not to be taken lightly!" Present Mic said.
Izuku saw Jack at the air propelling himself with a big discharge. Izuku was about to push his way through the army of robots when a wave of ice suddenly appeared, freezing a bunch of them. Izuku looked at the source of the attack to see Todoroki not far from him.
"Oh! Looks like a wave of ice from Todoroki froze a bunch of robots, including the zero-pointer!" Present mic said.
Izuku snapped out and proceeds to run through the army of robots. He punched a robot in front of him and kicked another one behind the other robot. Izuku stopped when he saw that the robots that has been frozen by Todoroki suddenly came down, making a domino effect. Izuku rushed to the other side before the robot falls, but he saw that Kirishima and another guy he saw at his class days ago got buried by the falling zero-pointer.
"Woah! It looks like the robots that have been frozen by your student Shota came down!" Present Mic commented.
With Jack, he was still in the air. When he saw that he was about to descend he shot a blast of discharged to the ground to slow him down. Then he looked at the next obstacle, it looks like large stone pillars that connected by a rope and at the bottom he saw only darkness.
'Jeez… how deep is that? I hope the staff prepared cushions at the bottom.' Jack thought.
Jack then traversed the stone pillars by jumping to a pillar and to another. He looked back and saw that everyone he knew was not far behind. There was Todoroki skating with his ice, Bakugo with his explosion, and his brother hopping with one for all and he also saw the other competitors behind the trio. Jack wouldn't let them pass, so he used venom dash to get to the end of the obstacle faster.
"It looks like the spider's classmates are gaining him, but it seems the spider is still on the lead and he almost arrived at the final obstacle!" Present Mic said from the comment booth.
"Will you keep it down a little, I'm trying my best to sleep." Aizawa said from the comment booth.
'Then why are you there in the first place…' Jack sweat dropped. He looked at the final obstacle. It was just plain ground and bumps on the ground. Jack then used his radar sense to scan for any electronics or traps that lay in the ground. To his surprise, there were mine fields inside the ground.
"For this final obstacle there are mines beneath the ground, but don't worry the mines aren't that destructive, but they can harm you so be careful!" Present Mic said from the comment booth.
The hero's warning proved to be useless for Jack because, with the help of his spider-sense, he could easily avoid the mines beneath the ground. Todoroki and Bakugo didn't have any problem avoiding the mines below, Todoroki could use his ice to avoid giving pressure to the ground and Bakugo could just fly higher with his explosion, with Izuku however he needs to be careful where he needs to step his foot on. As a result, Bakugo and Todoroki got ahead leaving Izuku behind them.
"BYE-BYE! DEKU!" Bakugo said.
'Damn it I need to keep up with them!' Izuku thought frustrated. He then began to think, he looked at the ground while still trying to avoid any mines he could accidentally trigger. Then he had an idea.
'What if I moved beyond the time when the mines could detect? Let's try it out.' Izuku said. Izuku carefully increased his output from 5%-6%. Izuku then tries to run and turns out he was right, the mines weren't triggered and if he did step into one, he already moved out of the way when the bomb explodes.
Jack heard the small explosion and he turned his head back to see Todoroki and Bakugo not far from him, and behind them was Izuku gaining space with the two.
"HEY, WEB HEAD! I WOULDN'T LET YOU WIN THAT EASILY!" Bakugo shouted. He was about to emit a blast to gain more speed when Todoroki froze his leg. Bakugo startled by the cold looked at Todoroki and he was very angry.
"HEY WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HALF BASTARD!" He said letting out an explosion to attack Todoroki.
"Sorry, but I will not let you pass me." He said calmly, he dodged the explosion, and then he resumed to give a counter-attacked to Bakugo. The two exchanged blows, but they didn't notice Izuku behind them. Izuku jumps to the two of them and uses them as a spring to get past them.
"Sorry Kacchan and Todoroki, but I will not let you get past me." As Izuku got past the duo.
"DEKU! GET BACK HERE YOU NERD!" Bakugo said.
Todoroki and Bakugo then chased Izuku. With Jack, he almost arrived at the finished line which was a corridor like at the starting line. He heard shouting behind and looked at his back to see the trio. He saw Izuku whose lightning was brighter than before and gaining more speed. Jack acted fast, he gathered his electricity to both of his feet and hands. He then let out a huge discharge that made him fly to the finish line.
The audience was waiting for who will come out first from the corridor. They cheered as Jack came out first from the corridor. Jack waved and as he run to the middle of the stadium, he showed off a bit by doing a triple cartwheel and a front flip and spread his arms to his sides at the end of it.
"WOW! THE WINNER OF THE OBSTACLE IS HAMADA!" Present Mic said at the comment booth.
Next, the trio came out from the corridor with Izuku second, followed by Todoroki and Bakugo. Then Jack walked to his brother to congratulate him.
"Congrats Izuku! You got in second." Jack said.
"Yeah… but not first though," Izuku said feeling a bit sad.
"Don't worry Izuku. It means that you still have things that you need to improve and besides there's also next year." Jack said cheering up his brother.
"You're right!" Izuku said eyes sparkling.
Jack just chuckled and ruffled his hair with Izuku pouting afterward. Jack then looked at the other two who were behind his brother after he crossed the finish line. Bakugo was fuming at him and Izuku, he was ready to attack them at any moment. Todoroki was… mad at himself? And constantly looking at the audience stand.
Jack wondered who he was looking at, but Jack wasn't able to when he looked from the corner of his eye at the gate for the finish line. He saw the other competitors and among them he saw his girlfriend, clearly panting from the exhaustion. Jack waved at his girlfriend and she waved back, she then walked to Jack's.
"Hey Kyoka, you looked EX-hausted." Jack quipping. Kyoka gave Jack an annoyed looked and then gave a punched which Jack blocked.
"Right sorry." Jack chuckled, he then spread his hands out which soon Kyoka leaned on his chest.
"The race was very difficult. Do you know how I need to traverse the stone pillars?" Kyoka asked him. Jack just shrugged and let her continue.
"A girl from the support class used a jetpack. She helped me and let me tell you it was a terrifying experience." Kyoka said chuckling. He then let go of Kyoka
"Wait… did you say a jetpack?" Jack asked. Kyoka nodded and pointed to a girl with pink hair, who was configuring her gadgets.
"Wow cool." Jack said.
"Alright everyone, look at here!" Midnight said to everyone whipping her whip. Everyone looked at the R-rated hero.
"For the students who managed to place themselves at the top of 42, they will advance to the next event." Midnight stated. The students that were below the 42 people cried, some of them Jack saw were cursing themselves. The ones that managed however felt happy inside.
"Don't worry, the ones who've failed the first event could participate again next year." Midnight said to them.
"I wonder what the second event is?" Jack heard Uraraka beside Izuku not far from him.
"I don't know, it could be anything. Midnight said it could be random." Izuku said thinking.
"I know! Maybe it could be a baton pass or-or we have a race again." Ashido said beside her.
"Be quiet! I was about to spin the wheel again for your next event that you will be doing!" Midnight said to the Ashido's direction, clearly annoyed. Jack note to himself not to irritate a woman, especially his girlfriend.
"Now let's see what the next event shall we?" Midnight said, then the screen shuffle random events until it stopped at one event.
"Cavalry Battle!" Midnight said whipping her whip at the jumbo screen.
"Cavalry battle? That looks fun" Jack said.
"It is." Someone said beside him. Jack looked at the new person beside him, he has messy brown hair, blue eyes, and a scar on his cheeks. Jack noticed that he was staring too long and decides to reply to the person.
"Really? You played this kind of thing before?" Jack said.
"Oh sure, I played with my cousins all the time at home." He chuckled.
"Cool. I'm Jack Hamada by the way." Jack offered a handshake.
"Oh, I know. I'm Albert Arland." He introduced himself.
Jack noticed his name was a foreigner. He decided to use English.
"So, you're a foreigner?" Jack asked him.
"Yeah, parents moved from London to Tokyo when I was eight." Albert said.
"Wow, awesome," Jack said.
"Yeah, by the way, I like your opening speech. It gave us from general studies hope." Albert said.
"Ah, your welcome," Jack said. Albert wanted to say something else when Midnight whipped her whip again when the students were still talking and discussing with each other.
"Now… the 42 students will each form team 2-4 and each team will earn points by grabbing the other team headbands. The number of points each student is worth is dependent on their placement in the Obstacle Race. For the student who reached 1st place, however…" Midnight said, she then looked straight at Jack with a smirk which make him shiver.
"is worth 10 million points…" She said at the end seductively. Jack was shocked and then his spider-sense went haywire. He didn't need to know where the danger is because everyone was looking at him as a hunter at his prey. Bakugo was looking at Jack with his signature maniac smile and Todoroki was looking at Jack coldly.
'Ah, crap…' Jack thought.
"Now you can only wear the headband around your neck or head. The one who will wear the headband is the rider of your team. If a team suddenly crumbles or loses its headband will be out of the game. You could use your quirks but not for malicious aim. The cavalry battle will last for 15 minutes and the point value of each team will be the total accumulation of each of the headbands taken and the total accumulated points will be worn by the rider also."
"Now you only have 15 minutes to find a teammate and negotiate a plan with them," Midnight said. The screen showed a 15 minutes countdown. Soon the students began to find their teams, Jack began to head in the direction of his first option.
"Hey Izuku, do you want to be on my team?" Jack asked.
"Umm… sorry Jack, I've already picked a team." Izuku showed his team which consisted of Uraraka, the pink hair girl which was Hatsume Mei, and Fumikage Tokoyami.
"Well, ok then. Good luck Izuku." Jack said offering a fist bump which Izuku fist bump back.
"You too Jack." Izuku said. Jack then went to the next option of the list of teammates in his mind.
"So… Kyoka do you want to be on my team?" Jack asked her.
"Sorry Jack, but I've already got one." She said pointing to her team which consisted of Toru Hagakure, Rikido Sato, Koji Koda. Jack sighs after knowing Kyoka already has a team.
"Ok then, by the way… are you free on the weekends?" Jack asked her.
"Umm, yeah I think so," Kyoka said with a confusing look.
"Great, do you want to go on a date? Saturday? There's a nice ramen rest near my apartment and I wanted to ask you out." Jack said rubbing his back hair.
Kyoka just chuckled seeing his behavior, he looked very cute whenever he was nervous.
"Sure thing, Jack, I would love to." Kyoka said.
"Wow, ok then," Jack said grinning, he then gave Kyoka a kiss on her cheek which made her blush afterward. He then went to his other classmates, but most of his classmates either already have a team or were anxious about being on the same team with him because of the number of points he had. While he was still musing about who should he ask next, Albert came to him.
"Hey Hamada, have you already picked someone to become your team?" Albert asked.
"Sadly no, how about you?" Jack asked.
"Nope, hey can I join you then?" Albert said.
"Of course," Jack said.
"Hey, do you guys still have a slot for us?" Someone said behind them. Jack looked at the two students behind him. The first who was the one to address them has silver messy hair, with sharp teeth like Kirishima. The other one who Jack knew was Itsuka Kendo.
"Oh, sure and your name is?" Jack asked.
"My name is Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu and this is Kendo Itsuka." Tetsu introduced.
"Nice to meet you, I've already known who Kendo is, by the way, my name is Jack Hamada, and this is Arland Albert." Jack said.
"Nice to meet you two. By the way your speech Hamada…. Was so manly!" Tetsu said.
"He didn't stop shouting about how manly you were." Kendo chuckled.
"Well, I'm glad you like it. Ok before we form a plan, could you guys tell me each of your quirks?" Jack asked.
"Sure thing. My quirk is the Historia Magistra Vitae, it's the ability to summon historical things whether it's soldier, weapons, or key figures. But the downside is my quirk needs knowledge of history to be able to summon any soldier, weapons, etc and if it is used for too long for example 8 hours then I would have a very severe migraine and the possibility to lose the historical knowledge." Albert explained. The others were baffled by his quirk.
"Awesome quirk dude," Tetsu said.
"Yeah, Arland," Kendo said.
"Thanks," Albert said his cheeks were red because of the compliments.
"Ok, how about you Kendo? I heard that you could increase the size of your hands, right?" Jack asked.
"Yes, my quirk Big Fist allows me to enlarge both of my hands to gigantic size, giving me an edge in hand-to-hand combat," Kendo explained.
"Wow, good quirk." Jack said.
"Yeah Kendo." Albert said.
"Hehehe, that's our manly president! Or woman" Tetsu said, proud for his class president.
Kendo just smiled sheepishly.
"Well, how about you?" Jack said.
"Ah yeah! My quirk steel allows me to turn my body into steel, giving me great defensive capabilities," Tetsu said.
"Nice." Albert said.
'Wow, this is awesome. I have two people who have quirks that are good in defensive and another who can summon objects and key figures from the past. Yeah, I can work with this.' Jack thought.
"Well, the last is me of course. My quirk is Electro Spider, my quirk allows me to have the abilities of a spider and control electricity, emit them from my body and absorb them and I can turn invisible." Jack said.
"Wow, that's a load of a quirk Hamada." Kendo said impressed.
"Yeah, a manly quirk!" Tetsu said.
"Awesome, does this mean you could shoot webs from your body?" Albert asked.
"Sadly no, I build web shooters so I could shoot webs from my wrists," Jack said. Everyone nodded to Jack.
"Ok guys, I have a plan. First Arland, I need you to summon a shield for you and Kendo, so that we could have some defensive on our sides. Second Tetsu, is it ok I call you that?" Jack stopped his explanation.
"No problem leader!" He said.
"Right, Tetsu you will be the horse at the front while at the sides will be Kendo and Arland, giving us an edge at defensive. Since we cannot harm any of the competitors, I will use my electricity to attack whenever a team went close to us and for points, we need to avoid any contact with the others, if one of them manage to snatch our points, we need to try to steal another team points as well." Jack said to them.
Jack's team nodded, as they finished discussing their plan Midnight announced that the time for strategizing was over and the cavalry battle will begin.
"Alright! Let the Cavalry battle begin!" Midnight said. All the students have begun to spread out everywhere, one of the teams went to Jack's but his team quickly moved to the opposite danger.
"Alright, we need to avoid the other teams if we want to win!" Jack said to his team.
"Right!" Albert said.
"Yes, leader!" Tetsu said at the front.
"Yeah," Kendo said.
Suddenly a random team approached them out of nowhere. Jack told Albert to summon a shield for Kendo and for himself. Jack observed the other team and it has consisted of two students, the horse was a student with fur around his arms and he was moving with four of his limbs, the second was the rider which scales on his arms.
"It's Rin and Shishida!" Kendo said to them. The duo was coming fast in their direction. Not letting the duo get near them, Jack shot a bolt of lighting to the floor beside Shishida staggering him for a bit. Hiryu saw what Jack did, he decided to attack Jack also, scales were shot out from his hands, and its heading to Jack. Kendo saw the flying scales she then grew her hands and shield Jack from Rin's attack.
"Nice Kendo!" Jack said.
"Thanks!" Kendo said.
"Sorry guys! We need to win this even if we're in the same class." Tetsu said to the other team. After that Jack's team went away from the duo. Jack's team continues to either defend or deliver a counterattack to the other teams.
"So far it's going great leader," Tetsu said from the front.
"Still, we need to stay on guard." Albert said.
"Albert's right, we don't know if there's a team that capable of overthrowing us," Kendo said.
Jack was about to give a comment when suddenly his spider-sense was triggered. He almost lost his headbands when out of nowhere a flying Bakugo passed him almost grabbing one of his headbands.
"Holy- Bakugo!" Jack said as he prepared to launch a venom bolt to stun him, but Bakugo swiftly got away and landed on his team.
"That was a close one…" Kendo said.
"SHIT! Almost have it. Why the fuck did you dodged web head?!" Bakugo said as his team went to attack Jack's team once more. Albert quickly summoned a barrier, separating Jack's team and Bakugo's team. The barrier was shields of spartan lining up and halting Bakugo's team to attack once more.
"Wow…" Jack said. He looked at Albert who was concentrating to keep the shield in existence.
"Guys we need to go, I don't know how long I could keep this up." Albert said straining because of his quirk.
The four of them then went away from the angry blond's team.
"That was a close one…" Jack said.
"Yeah, I hope it gets easier from here." Albert said.
'Knowing my experience…. It will get any easier,' Jack thought paling when his spider-sense tingled. He searched the danger and surprised when his team began to sink to the ground.
"What's happening?" Albert said trying to get out from the sinking ground.
"It's Honenuki's quirk! His quirk softening allowed him to soften the surface into a semi-liquid." Kendo said trying to get out from the sinking ground.
Jack looked at the crouching person at the distance, who was Honenuki. The person has paled skin with angular eyes, mid-length spiked hair with beige color, his unusual features is his teeth that were outside of his mouth and no lips. The other two who Jack could see are the green hair girl with vine-like hair and the other who was behind the girl was a teen boy with black long spiked hair with a headband on his head.
Jack saw that the rider was the vine hair girl. The headbands were resting around her neck.
"We got you now!" Honenuki said grinning.
"Ibara, now!" The spiked hair headband said to the vine girl who named was Ibara. Immediately the girl shot her vine hair to Jack's team. Jack's team was trapped by Ibara's vine hair.
"Damn it, how do we suppose to get out of here!" Tetsu said.
Jack began to think, Kendo could possibly enlarge her hands and put force to the vines to be cut by the force of Kendo's enlarged fists or use Albert to summon a figure or soldiers to attack the other team.
"Alright guys, on the count of three, Arland will summon a soldier to distract the other team and Kendo you will try to break us free from these vines by enlarging your fist." Jack said, "and Tetsu, you will start to rush out of here when Kendo breaks us free." Jack finally said. Their team nodded their heads.
But it was no need when suddenly ice came out of nowhere freezing the stadium floor, allowing them to escape from the sinking floor.
"What's going on now?" Albert asked.
"It's my classmate Todoroki, he froze the stadium floor," Jack observed his surrounding to find where could Todoroki be. In the middle of the stadium, he saw Todoroki looking at him. Suddenly a barrage of ice went to him.
"Guys! We need to move now!" Jack said to his team. His team manages to evade the coming ice. Todoroki's team began to chase him.
"You're not going away Hamada!" Todoroki said, he let out a barrage of ice to him. Jack looked at the coming attack and ordered Albert to summon shields to block it, but the ice never went to them. The ice went around them, trapping them again.
"We're trapped!" Tetsu said.
Jack paid no mind, he looked at Todoroki's team, Momo was holding a wide cloth, then Jack saw that Todoroki was talking to Iida and Kaminari about something. Jack was to use his enhanced senses to listen when Todoroki yelled 'now' to his team. Jack's spider-sense went haywire, his surroundings went to a slow motion. He looked at Kaminari who was going to unleash a massive electro blast on their surroundings.
Time flew normally again.
"Arland! Shield now!" Jack said to him. Albert then summoned shields to protect them, while Tetsu activate his quirk. Jack heard Kaminari unleashing his attack. Jack could sense the electricity moving to them. Jack told Arland to open a small hole for him. The hole was big enough for his hands to stretch out from the defense.
Jack felt hydrated when he absorbed Kaminari's electricity. Jack ordered Albert to stop projecting the shields. Immediately the shields vanished in particles of blue light. When Jack thought that was over, his spider-sense tingled again. His instincts said to jump, he looked at the stretch-out hand of Todoroki with his team.
"RECIPRO BURST!" Iida said.
While Jack was in the air, Todoroki's team was passing his team in a blink of an eye. He observed that Iida was the cause of the sudden speed of the team. Jack then land back at his team.
"That was so close," Kendo said.
"Yeah, good thing I have my spider-sense," Jack said.
Jack looked at Todoroki's team, his team was immobilized, Jack observed that black smoke was coming from Iida's calve engines.
Then suddenly Midnight declared that the Cavalry battle was over. His team cheered because they manage to protect their team points.
"Yeah! We did it, guys!" Tetsu said and gave them a high five.
"Yeah I'm glad," Albert said wiping his sweat.
"It was because of the teamwork that allowed us to be in the first place," Jack said smiling at them.
"Of course," Kendo said.
"Now let us see who are the teams that will advance to the next event shall we." Midnight announced. The board began to change to show them the teams that will advance to the next event.
1st Team Hamada
2st Team Midoriya
3st Team Todoroki
4st Team Bakugo
"The top four will advance to the 1 vs 1 event, but now we will have a half an hour break. Congratulations to the teams that managed to advance to the next event." Midnight said to them all.
Immediately after the announcement, Jack and his team laid down on the stadium floor, exhaustion finally caught up to them.
"Whew, what a game huh guys?" Jack said between breaths.
"Yeah, it is all thanks to you manly leader!" Tetsu said looking at him.
"My head still hurts, maintaining those things really taking a toll on me." He said holding his head.
"Are you okay Arland?" Kendo said.
"Not so much, it was the first time that I ever summoned the shields of Sparda. It really took a toll on me. To be honest, I don't know if I can continue to compete in the next rounds," Albert said.
"Well… if you think that you cannot advance then don't push yourself alright? You have already proved yourself to the world that you have an amazing quirk." Jack said to Albert. Albert smiled at Jack's kindness.
"Thanks, Hamada, I think I will forfeit and let Shinso take my place." Albert said.
"Well alright then," Jack said.
After that Albert went to Midnight to inform her that he cannot advance to the next round because of his condition. Midnight obliged and told him to go to Recovery girl to check on his condition. He also told her that he wanted Shinso to take his place in the next round. Before Albert went to see Recovery Girl, he told Jack that he hoped that he will win the Sports Festival. After that Jack went to the cafeteria with Tetsu on tow because Kendo went with Albert to Recovery girl.
Jack and Tetsu talked along the way to the cafeteria
"Soo Hamada, the next round is an individual fight, right?" Tetsu asked him.
"You're right," Jack replied.
"Well, if we somehow fight, let me tell you this I will give my all to defeat you as a man should be!" Tetsu said.
Jack chuckled, "Sure thing dude." Jack said.
Jack saw the cafeteria and his friends talking at a table. He called out to them, but suddenly reporters that were also allowed in the cafeteria festival swarmed Jack, blocking his way. At the table where Uraraka, Iida, Tsuyu, and Kyoka, looked at Jack and the swarming reporters.
"Wow! looked at the swarming reporters…. Is that how it feels to be famous?" Uraraka said.
"Indeed, Hamada's performance in the sports festival was very remarkable and fantastic, It gave an impression to the press," Iida said.
Kyoka looked carefully at the scene. She wasn't minded by the press swarming his boyfriend, but when there were girls who were teasing him and grabbing his arms without permission now that made Kyoka mad. She got up from his seat causing her other two friends to look at her quizzingly, she then walked to the scene and shoved the reporters so that she could grab his hand.
"Kyoka-", Jack was startled by the sudden pull. Jack gave a sheepish smile to the reporters and fangirls. With Kyoka, he gave the fangirls a glare that said 'don't you dare do anything suspicious to him' resulting in the fangirls flinching.
When they arrived at their table, there was already Izuku sitting beside Uraraka. Jack and Kyoka then sat opposite them.
"Uhmm, Kyoka?" Jack asked her, she was eating her rice with a pouting expression.
"hmm?" She replied.
"Sorry for uhh… that," Jack said rubbing his head.
"It's fine," Kyoka said. Jack didn't believe her. He then just gave her a kiss on the cheek making her blush and smile bashfully.
The other two friends, Iida and Uraraka, just chuckled at the scene. With Izuku he was contemplating about something. Jack saw that his brother was thinking about something deeply, he made a note to ask him later.
"Well sorry Kyoka, you didn't advance to the next event." Jack said.
"It's fine, that just means I need to get stronger next time." Kyoka said giving a reassuring smile to him.
"Right."
"Well for the three of you congrats for advancing to the next event," Jack said to the other three.
"Thank you, Hamada," Iida said.
"Yeah, thank you," Uraraka said.
"O-oh right, may the best student win!" Izuku said.
After lunch, they went to the stadium seats so that they could watch the event to start.
"Alright people, it's time for the final event, the battle tournament! The teams who managed to advance will be fighting in a 1v1 battle." Present mic said, the monitor in the stadium then showed the combatants that would fight.
1. Midoriya vs Shinso
2. Sero vs Todoroki
3. Kaminari vs Uraraka
4. Iida vs Hatsume
5. Ashido vs Kendo
6. Tetsutetsu vs Kirishima
7. Tokoyami vs Yaoyorozu
8. Hamada vs Bakugo
Seeing his name displayed in the first round, Izuku went over to the waiting room to get ready, but before that, he was getting good luck from his friends and his brother. As he walked in the halls to get to the waiting room, he remembered his conversation with Ojiro about his first opponent, Shinso Hitoshi.
"His quirk allowed him to control people," Ojiro said.
"How did he do it." Izuku asked him
"When he talked to me and I replied to him, my head felt foggy and I had a memory gap between the start of the cavalry battle and at the end of it. I think that when you replied to him you would instantly get into the influence of his quirk." He said.
'A powerful quirk, so I need to avoid talking to him huh.' Izuku thought.
When the bell rang, Izuku got out of the waiting room and proceeds to walk to the stadium. He instantly was greeted by the cheering of spectators of the stadium.
"Alright people, here the first student who has gotten a second place at the start of the sports festival, from the hero course, Midoriya Izuku!", the crowd erupted with cheers and his classmates cheered him also, " And the second student from the general studies course, give it up for Hitoshi Shinso!" The stadium also gave him applause.
"Now let the battle begin!" Midnight announced whipping her riding crop. Izuku began to activate One for All full cowl 5%, but before he moved Shinso said something that made him reply to him.
"Hamada Jack, that guy he is such a celebrity, right? Even if his quirk is powerful, why does a person like that show off and think that he is number one, his speech was great, but I think he's a pathetic excuse of a hero." Shinso said to him. This made Izuku angry.
"What did you-" All of a sudden Izuku froze at the start.
At the stadium seat, his classmates were wondering what's going on. Ojiro who knew what's going on just sighs sadly.
"What's going on with him?" Uraraka said.
"It's like he just freezes up like that," Sato said.
"Right, what did he do anyway?" Kirishima said.
"His quirk I think," Jack said to all, answering their thoughts.
"Well-well it looks like Midoriya got influenced by Shinso's quirk! What a powerful quirk ladies and gentlemen." Present mic said.
Soon Shinso said something to Izuku, Izuku then began to move in the opposite direction of the stadium and instead went to direction outside of the line.
'What's happening to me? I can't control my body.' Izuku thought. Izuku could see that he was beginning to move out of the line of the stadium. But suddenly he began to see visages of shadows in his visions, then his fingers began to light up with One for All. His finger flick itself and Izuku was cut out from Shinso's quirk.
"Wow! Look at that, it appears that Midoriya managed to get out of Shinso's quirk!" Present Mic commented.
Shinso was shocked at this. Izuku quickly activates One for All despite the pain from his two fingers. At a fast pace, Izuku got into Shinso's line of view. Shinso, who was startled by Izuku's speed didn't have any time to avoid the kick that made him trip himself. Then Izuku drags him out of the ring.
"The winner is Izuku Midoriya!" Midnight stated. The stadium then filled with cheers and applause for Izuku. With Shinso he was getting up from the grass from the stadium. He walked to the center of the stadium to give some words to Izuku.
"Hey, you Midoriya, you are lucky you know. With that powerful quirk." Shinso stated.
"I know, but there are people who helped me in getting where I am now." Izuku said to him, turning around and heading to the festival clinic to heal his fingers.
"You know he isn't pathetic. He's a great hero and brother to me. He told that everyone deserves to be a hero regardless of their quirks. That's why I think also too, that you could be a hero and have a chance in the hero course." Izuku said still facing away from Shinso. Shinso was surprised by this, he then walked into his own classmates on the stadium seats.
"Alright next the next battle that we will be going to see is Todoroki vs Sero!" Present Mic aid. Todoroki and Sero were already in the waiting room Jack saw. After a couple of minutes, he saw Todoroki and Sero in the stadium, but Jack noticed that Todorki seemed kinda sad.
"Jack, what's wrong?" Kyoka asked, she saw Jack's serious face.
"It's just Todoroki seemed sad." He said to her eyes never left the stadium.
"Alright start!" Midnight announced. Sero immediately shot out his tape to Todoroki, trapping him in a cocoon-like tape. Just Sero was about to launch another tape, Jack spider-sense warned him, he looked at the danger and saw ice come from Todoroki's feet. Jack immediately leaned back his body and he leaned Kyoka back to dodge the sudden burst of ice. When the attack stopped Jack looked at the towering ice that was very tall.
"W-wow To-Todoroki s-san is v-very s-strong." Jack looked behind him to see Izuku shivering with the rest of his classmates. Jack also looked at his girlfriend who was also shivering from the low temperature, he then pulled her close so that she could warm up a bit.
At the stadium, Todoroki was still being held by Sero's tape, but his right side was completely covered in ice. Sero was trapped in his eyes, shivering. Midnight checked on Sero and he said that he admitted his defeat, allowing Todoroki to advance in the next round. After Todoroki freed himself from the tape, he then approached Sero to melt the ice and apologized to him.
"Man, Todoroki's attack was unbelievable," Kaminari said.
"No kidding, ribbit, Todoroki is one of the strongest students in our class, but I didn't it could be this extent." Tsuyu said.
'But still, why did he lose control like that. Probably something happened to him before the match.' Jack thought. He then looked at his brother who was also in deep thought. He decided to discuss the matter with him after this, privately.
"It seems the winner is Todoroki and he advanced to the next round. Due to Todoroki's attack, the next would be held up until the ice melts" Present Mic said from the commentator booth.
"Welp it seems that the next match is me between Uraraka," Kaminari said looking at Uraraka, who gave him a sheepish smile.
"Y-yeah," Uraraka said.
"Don't worry I will not hurt you too much," Kaminari said to her.
"She could just fly you know, dunce face," Kyoka said smirking. Kaminari just huffed. He then got up and went to the waiting room.
"Well… wish me, luck guys," Uraraka said. She got up and went to the waiting room.
"W-Wait Uraraka-san, c-can I come with you?" Izuku said nervously.
"Sure thing, Deku-kun" Uraraka said.
"Oh, wow Izu you're so bold now. I never expected you to straight-up do it, at a boy," Jack said teasingly. Izuku then groaned and went together with Uraraka to the waiting room, who was blushing. Jack also saw Iida get up from his seat and go with the duo.
"You really like to tease Midoriya don't you?" Kyoka said beside him.
"As an older brother, it's my duty to make fun of him whenever and wherever I can," Jack said with a toothy grin. Kyoka just chuckled and put her head on his right shoulder.
After a couple of minutes, the ice in the stadium has melted and the tournament could continue.
"Alright folks, our next match is from the same hero course and class, Kaminari the electric student vs the gravity girl, Uraraka!" Present mic said. The crowd of people then began to cheer and clapped for the duo.
"Alright Uraraka, this will be over in a minute," Kaminari said as electricity began to emit out from his body.
"1.3 Million volts!" Kaminari said. Then electricity began to travel to Uraraka. Uraraka began to make her float to avoid Kaminari's attack.
"Wow looked at her go!" Kirishima said at the spectator's seat.
"With Uraraka's ability to float, Kaminaris's attack wouldn't reach her, now she just needs to wait until Kaminari begins to short circuit," Izuku said.
"Yeah, but how long she will hold it we don't know. This is a fight against time, am I right Izu?" Jack asked.
"Yes, unlike you Kaminari cannot target his electricity at will, so Uraraka has the advantage to stay afloat avoiding the ground as possible." Izuku said.
And it was proved useful as Kaminari's attack began to get weaker and weaker until it was done. For Uraraka she was holding his dizziness enough to not throw away the contents of her food. She then quickly nullified her quirk once Kaminari began to dumb himself. She ran at the dumb Kaminari and put him out of bounds.
"The winner in this match is Uraraka!" Midnight stated. Uraraka jump in joy and she began to walk back to the spectators.
When Uraraka arrived at her class seat, she was given congratulations from her classmates.
"Wow, congratulations Uraraka!" Izuku said.
"Indeed, your tactic in defeating Kaminari is a great strategy Uraraka." Iida said.
"Ahh thanks, guys," Uraraka said scratching her back head.
"Yeah Uraraka, you did great out there," Jack said to her.
After her battle then came the next match Iida vs Hatsume, which ended up Iida the winner. Hatsume was only there for promoting her support equipment. After that, the next match was Ashido vs Kendo.
"Alright people, it is now the fifth match, Kendo Itsuka from class 1-B hero course vs Ashido Mina from class 1-A hero course!" Present mic said.
"Who do you think will win?" Uraraka asked Izuku.
"I think it will be Ashido, with her acid she could easily skate around Kendo-san and she could shoot acid to her until she's close to the stadium battle line," Izuku said.
"Ready start!" Midnight announced.
Ashido began to skate away from the approaching Kendo, but Ashido was too late to skate away from Kendo. Kendo enlarge her hands that were balled to be a fist, giving Ashido a punch, but Ashido easily dodged it by moving from the side. Then Ashido gave Kendo a kick to the gut but Kendo easily stop the kick from Ashido and she countered her with an enlarged palm strike. Ashido staggered a bit, she hastily got up and skate away from Kendo. This time Ashido managed to escape from Kendo.
Ashido let out a volley of acid to Kendo. Kendo backed away from the Acids, she didn't notice that she was almost out of the line. Ashido seeing this took the chance to quickly skate over to Kendo. She then pushed Kendo over the line.
"And the winner in this match is Mina Ashido!" Midnight said. The crowd cheered at the winner.
"You're right Izuku, she won." Jack said to him.
"Y-yeah I just deduced that from h-her quirk and strength." Izuku said blushed from his praise. Jack then remembered that he needed to talk to Izuku about Todoroki.
"Izuku, could we talk for a moment in private," Jack said.
"S-sure." Izuku said surprised by Jack's sudden request.
"Where are you going?" Kyoka asked Jack.
Jack leaned forward to whisper to her ear.
"I want to discuss Todoroki's sadness with him, so I need to talk with him privately so that the others couldn't eavesdrop us," Jack said. "Don't worry I come back," Jack said, he then gave her a kiss on her cheek. After that Jack and Izuku walked for a bit to find a secluded hall.
"So, what do you want to talk about Jack?" Izuku asked curiously.
"It's about Todoroki and you actually. Did you notice how sad Todoroki was when after he attacked Sero with that massive scale attack? A guy like that could control his quirk destructiveness, but he didn't and what were you thinking at the cafeteria? You were so much inside in your thoughts, you know." Jack said.
"Well…" Izuku then explained his talk with Todoroki, when suddenly Todoroki pulled him over to a hall where the two could talk. Todoroki told Izuku about his past and his cruel father. Todoroki told Izuku that Endeavor was cruel because his existence was just to surpassing All Might because of that goal from when his quirk first manifested, he would undergo training from the number two hero.
Izuku then told Jack about why Todoroki didn't want to use his fire. For years Todoroki would endure the harsh training from Endeavor, his mother became worried, and slowly that worry would become insane. Izuku told Jack that his mother poured hot water to his left side, she said to Todoroki that his left side was unbearable for her.
"…and that's why he would prove his father he would only use his right side to win the sports festival," Izuku said finishing his explanation. Jack was very sad and angry at the same time. How dare that hero, using his children only for the sake of his goal.
"That's just plain wrong. Quirk marriage, doing only for the sake of the offspring quirk, if I remembered." Jack said still feeling angry.
"Yeah." Izuku said he also felt angry for Todoroki.
"But I think using only half of your power isn't good either," Izuku said.
"Well… you said it yourself…" Jack then realized something.
"You were thinking that you would help him in the next round by forcing himself to use his fire." Jack said smirking at Izuku.
"Yeah, it's his power he shouldn't be afraid to use it," Izuku said.
"Heh. Well good luck then little brother, don't get crisped ok?" Jack quipped which in returned Izuku chuckled.
"Yeah," Izuku said.
When they came back, the match with Tetsutetsu vs Kirishima was over, his classmates said that the match was tied because the two of them were knocked out at the same time.
'Not a surprise knowing that the two quirks were identical. Hmm, I wonder if they were related… nah' Jack thought.
"The next battle is Yaoyorozu vs Tokoyami from the hero course!" Present mic said.
"Midoriya who do you think will win?" Ojiro asked.
"It's a matter of time actually, Tokoyami's dark shadow could easily overpower Yaoyorozu's creation quirk, that's why I think the winner will be Tokoyami," Izuku said.
Izuku's deduction was right, when the battle starts Tokoyami immediately attacked Momo with dark shadow. Momo then quickly conjured a small shield to parry Tokoyami's attack. Dark shadow's attack proved to be stronger making Momo conjure more shields for each hit. The constant attack from dark shadow made Momo didn't aware that she was heading to the out-of-bounds line. When dark shadow stopped attacking her, Momo took it as an opportunity to counterattack.
But it was revealed that Momo was already out of bounds, as the result she lost the match.
"Yaoyorozu lost because of out of bounds, Tokoyami is the winner!" Midnight stated.
After that Tokoymi left the stadium and walked back to where his classmate seat. With Momo, she was devastated and disappointed in herself because she lost. She went back to her seat with a solemn expression.
At the spectator seat, Jack is getting ready to head to the waiting room. Bakugo was already inside the waiting room.
"Guys wish me luck alright," Jack said to his classmates.
"Yeah, man! Good luck beating Baku-bro" Kirishima said, he returned to his seat after he regained consciousness.
"Yes Hamada, I am certain you'll win this match between Bakugo." Iida said.
"Do your best Hamada!" Uraraka said.
"Good luck," Kyoka said to him and she gave him a kiss on his cheek.
"Good luck Jack," Izuku said to him.
Jack then heads to the waiting room. When he arrived in the said room, he saw Bakugo who was doing some stretching before the match. When Bakugo noticed Jack's presence, he walked to him and gave him a snarl.
"Listen here web head, out there I want you to give your all, no holding back got it?!" Bakugo said.
'Jeez really? Don't blame me if you lost alright.' Jack thought
"Uhm… sure." Jack said. Bakugo then went out of the room and then slam the door back.
Jack just shrugged himself to the ash-blond teen, he then did a couple of stretches before going to the stadium battle. After he have done his stretch, he then went to the stadium battle.
"Ladies and gents, this is the final match before we move to the next round of the battle tournament. Here is the student who got first place in the obstacle race and the lady killer whose face is so handsome that ladies want, the electricity spider boy from the hero course, Jack Hamada!" Present mic said from the booth. Jack waved at the cheering crowd audience around the stadium, he cringed at the last comment Present Mic said about him, he could feel the cold presence of his girlfriend from the spectator seat.
"And the second student is who could emit explosions from his hands and has an explosive personality, the explosive boy from the hero course, Katsuki Bakugo!" Present Mic said. Bakugo didn't care about the cheering crowd, his only focus was the opponent in from of him.
"Alright ready… fight!" Midnight said whipping her whip.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU WEB HEAD!" Bakugo said as he emitted an explosion traversed quickly to Jack. Jack saw this evade the explosion that was aimed at his face, his body arched backward as the explosive boy hand outstretched. Jack then gave Bakugo a kick to the gut that made the explosive boy coughed out saliva. Bakugo then let out an explosion at Jack. Jack then try to avoid the blast but unfortunately, he still got caught at the blast radius.
"AHAHAHA HOW DO YOU LIKE THAT?!" Bakugo said grinning that he managed to land a hit on Jack.
"…Meh not that hurt," Jack said smirking while folding his hands together. At this Bakugo then went to him again in an instance. Jack shot two venom bolts to Bakugo, but Bakugo dodged it.
"Missed!" Bakugo said coming to Jack.
"Oh really?" Jack said. Bakugo was confused. He didn't know that Jack's bolt was returning to him by his outstretched hand. As the result, Bakugo was hit by two bolts of lightning from his back. Jack seeing this as an opportunity immediately attacked him. He kicked his shin then flip backward in the air. Jack then venom strikes him with his two hands, but before Jack could deliver his final attack, his spider-sense tingle, Bakugo was bringing his hands together, he then ley out a blinding light explosion.
"STUN GRENADE!" Bakugo shouted. Jack covered his face because of the blinding light. Seeing this Bakugo then let out a big explosion point-blank at Jack. Jack was too late to dodge the explosion. Jack was blasted away almost at the out-of-bounds line. Bakugo didn't stop there, he then propelled himself upwards. Bakugou then went to Jack from the air, spinning while also letting out explosions.
Jack after recovering from the blindness was warned by his spider-sense by the upcoming attack. Jack looked at the approaching Bakugo, he was about to go invisible, but Bakugo won't let him.
"TAKE THIS HOWITZER IMPACT!" Bakugo said. Bakugo let out a very big explosion at Jack. The shockwave made a dust cloud in the stadium. When the dust was cleared, Bakugo was anticipating an unconscious Jack, but to his shock, Jack was nowhere to be found. Bakugo felt a tap from his back. He looked back and there was Jack.
"Hi," Jack said waving to him. Bakugo was going to reply but Jack was giving a venom punch to his gut. Jack then kick his chin again, but this time with his two feet. Bakugo was in the air in a daze, Jack delivered a serious combo of kicks and punches. He then used Bakugo as a springboard, making him go higher on the air.
Jack then gathered his electricity and shot like a bullet at Bakugo with venom dash. The two came down to the ground hard, then Jack threw Bakugo out of the stadium battle arena.
"Bakugo was out of bounds, the winner is Jack Hamada!" Midnight said.
"I guess to shut an angry person is to make take a beauty sleep." Jack chuckled. He then went to his classmate's seats. When he arrived there, he was greeted by a ton of praises from his classmates.
"That was amazing!" Ashido said.
"Very cool! I wish I could do that with my quirk." Kaminari said feeling slightly jealous at Jack's electricity power.
"That was very manly! You knocked him out good!" Kirisihima said giving a high five at him which he returned.
"A good performance and fight as always, Hamada." Iida said while doing the air chopping.
"A great fight indeed." Momo said.
"Yeah Jack that was amazing." Izuku said writing in his notes for Jack's power.
"Hehe thank you, everyone." Jack rubbed his back head. He then went to his seat beside Kyoka.
"That was a good punch you gave to Bakugo," Kyoka said beside him.
"Yeah, the guy was demanding me to go on full-on him," Jack said chuckling. Kyoka smiled at him and gave him a surprise kiss to his lips which Jack returned.
"Yeah," Jack said. Present Mic then announced that there will be a break before the second round of the battle tournament.
