Things in the Tracy household can get tough sometimes but when you have kids involved it can get red-blooded.
The rambunctious sound of the alarm clock woke Scott up, knocking him out of his peaceful sleep as he jolted up and hit the snooze button six thirty, but then the dreaded cry from the baby monitor. Brushing away the duvet, standing up from the bed and putting on a decent shirt so his daughter wouldn't see him naked. He looked next to his side of the bed. His wife wasn't led there anymore. Alarm bells started ringing in his head showing panic mode. Usually Kayo wasn't a morning person either, but to his surprise the light was on underneath the bathroom door so he knew she was in there getting herself ready.
Scott opened the door and took a peek into Lucy's room seeing the 1-year-old trying to stand up in her pink fluffy onesie melted his heart, it was a proud father moment. He steps in and the little one grins at the sight of her father but then a familiar giggling voice comes from behind him. Turning around Kayo was sat on the floor finishing her makeup.
"The light was on in the bathroom, so I thought you were getting ready," Scott frowned seeming confused, like a child trying to catch a rainbow.
Kayo pouted her lips crossing her arms, "That's not a very nice greeting to the person who married you is it Scott,"
Kayo was always mad at Scott, it was just how their relationship worked.
"Sorry," Scott gulped apologising, kissing her ring finger as a proper greeting. Kayo blushed at him and proceeded to carry on with her makeup.
After apologising he now has to think twice about what he said to her, after saying stuff in the past that had hurt Kayo inside it had been difficult to control what he says in front of her.
"I was nearly finished but then Freddie ran into the bathroom to tell me his sister was crying," Kayo informed him as she sat on the rocking chair and lent back, "And I left her crying deliberately as your alarm clock,"
Peering over in the cot Scott couldn't resist a kiss to his daughter, lifting her up and lightly kissing her on the cheek which made he stop crying, lying her back down she fell back asleep, "Looks like that kiss made you go back to sleep didn't it baby,"
While Scott was mumbling something to his daughter Kayo managed to slip away from the father daughter moment despite wanting to watch she had lots of stuff to pack and little time to do it in.
Minutes later at breakfast, the kitchen was lonely with just a 6 and a 18 yr old, with John in space, Gordon just getting in the pool, Virgil and Jeff waiting on a private phone call in Jeff's office so Alan had time to spend with his nephew.
"Do you or Kayo want breakfast, Scott?" Alan asked pouring out dinosaur cornflakes for himself and Freddie.
Shaking his head Scott rested his suitcase by his shoot, "It's fine we will grab something at the airport but a coffee will be great Alan."
"Your going commercial?" Alan cross-questioned his brother, waiting for the coffee machine to dispense the coffee.
"Yes firefly private plane and were taking shadow and TB1 in the cot pit of the plane," Scott replied spinning around in circles trying to catch the six-year-old thumping his thigh. Finally catching him he picked Freddie up and lifted him onto the counter tapping his nose making him squeal in delight, "Are you sure you can be left again with Freddie, Alan? I don't want a repeat from last time,"
Alan rolled his eyes passing him the coffee cup, "Yes Scott I'm 18 now not 14,"
"Looks like I have no choice anyway the rest of our brothers are out," Scott murmured, taking a sip of his coffee.
Kayo came walking into the living room with a suitcase, "Scott, I'm all packed, are you ready to go?"
Freddie jumped down quickly from the counter as he knew he wasn't allowed to sit on it, but his father would let it slip. Scott nodded grabbing his suitcase, this was the first time leaving both kids alone with Alan.
Alan gazed down at what Kayo was dressed in, "Gosh Kayo, you look like you just came from a shampoo commercial,"
Scott stamped on Alan's foot hard and Freddie laughed, finding it funny. Whereas for Kayo she excepted the compliment and smiled sheepishly in return.
Freddie also agreed with Alan he adored his mother sense of fashion, his future preference was that Lucy would dress up in something posh too following on from their parents.
"Where are you going mummy?" Freddie inquired curiously, feeling left out as everyone else knew where his parents were going except him.
Biting her lip, Kayo was nervous about telling Freddie where they were going as they would usually leave it to the last minute as he would usually get upset or pretend to get hurt making them stay, but Scott just stood back and watched with Alan.
Kayo knelt down to her son's height, "Me and daddy have to go for a conference in New York," she cups her hands round his cheeks before pushing some dark curly hair behind his small ear, "We will be back tomorrow,"
Freddie didn't reply, he just slouched over to the breakfast table to carry on eating his dinosaur cornflakes. Standing up Kayo, and Scott watched Freddie eat in silence with his head hung sadly and his eyes fixed on what was in front of him.
Tapping Scott's shoulder Alan pointed to the clock, following his brother's gaze they were running late for the airport.
Scott leaned over and kissed Freddie's cheek, "I love you Fry,"
Freddie stuck his tongue out and blew a raspberry at his father, "Yuck," Scott raised an eyebrow at him, "Love you too daddy,"
Scott grinned ruffling his son's hair, "Thank you. Don't stick your tongue out at me Mr," Trying not to smirk he rolled his eyes, "You learn't that from uncle Gordon the other day didn't you."
Freddie nodded in reply, he had spent most of his time being babysat by Gordon, as Alan has been at school but since he is now 18, he finished school so he more time to spend on the island.
"Lucy is still asleep Alan," Kayo says taking one last look at herself in the mirror, before applying a polish lipstick which still had its pointy end.
Sighing, Scott watched his son's face drop, "Maybe we shouldn't go,"
Kayo wrapped her arms round his waist, "Yes Scott, we promised your dad we would go after we had Lucy," she laid her back on Scott's chest watching her son play with Alan, "This will be the longest time without the kids,"
"And first, let's go before we miss our plane," Scott took hold of Kayo's hand and they both separated to their shoots, meeting each other in the cock pit and headed off to the airport.
After washing his and Freddie's bowl up, Alan opened the fridge to get the formula, "I'm going to prepare your sister's bottle,"
Trying to prepare a bottle was harder than Alan thought reading the instructions, the only words that stood out to him were, "1-year-old," and "2 scoops." Filling the bottle up with warm water and shaking it like a cocktail shaker until it was all shaken up and smooth.
While his uncle was struggling Freddie hopped over to the Piano stall, stood up and started to play something unrecognisable. Alan stopped what he was doing and listened out to where the music was coming from, for a second he thought that Virgil had got off the phone early but realising it wasn't, his eyes widened at the player.
Stopping playing, Freddie sat on the piano stall, "What was daddy like in school?"
Alan ran his fingers down the chords joining him on the stool, "Um... from what I remember he hated school and was mean to all the teachers," Alan simplified trying to sum up from what he remembered about Scott at school.
"Oh..." Freddie trailed off awkwardly staring at his feet, lifting his head slightly he continued, "Do you think I'll be more like daddy when I grow up?"
Alan shrugged, "You have his genes so you might be like him," out of the blue Alan tried to find something he could relate with him, "I used to be scared of buzz lighter,"
Freddie chuckled, "I have a Buzz lighter toy, it talks," he then ran out of the room into his bed to get it and came back in a flash, "Here,"
Alan shuffled on his chair further away. He never liked the buzz lighter toy, he thought it was creepy, the eyes and sound making him cringe.
Freddie pulled the string activating Buzzes catchphrase, 'To infinity and beyond' Buzz said moving his arm making a superman pose.
"It's not going to hurt you uncle Alan," Freddie giggled in a teasing tone waving Buzz in front of Alan's face. But in his defense he was telling the truth it was only a toy it wasn't like he could come to life.
Alan wanted to run, but he knew he had to get rid of his fear quickly as he couldn't have his nephew teasing him about a stupid toy fear and as more toys were arriving on the island he was running out of time.
Alan sighed, it was now or never, "I'll make you a deal, we can watch cartoons if..."
Freddie cut his uncle off quickly, "I tell you all about Buzz, so you can get over your fear like I did with daddy about Ken, "
Freddie's demanding tone cut Alan off guard, now he sounded like a mini version of Scott. Alan looked really surprised at what used to be Scott's fear, he was sitting at his full height and eyed Freddie curiously.
"Ken? You mean Barbies boyfriend," Alan questioned as Freddie nodded, "Fine, where do you want to begin?"
After many hours of toy story and cartoons with Freddie and feeding Lucy her bottle before she was due for her bedtime. Alan had convinced himself to try to stay awake for as long as Freddie was up for, even though it had messed his sleeping schedule up.
In the morning Alan was the last one up and at the same time as Lucy woke up. Trotting into the bedroom, she was trying to stand up again in her cot like she did with Scott, but this time with one hand waving in the air and a massive grin on her face. Alan thought it was unusual that she didn't wake up crying, but he didn't know anything about parenting.
"Hey big eyes," Alan whispered playfully, walking over to the cot he rested his hands on top of hers, "I know I'm not your parents but they should be back this afternoon,"
"Ma," Lucy buzzed with a smile, which Alan returned.
Standing there for two seconds, he broke out to a giggle not knowing what was going on inside the small brain of his nieces was weird for him but she also found it funny. After sharing giggles and looks, thinking it was a game, he picked her up with the pacifier on the way out to the living room. Cradling Lucy in the crook of his arms he sat her down on the living room top table safely.
Freddie walked into the living room all droopy and sad, purposely hitting on his head on the table he was either tired or wasn't happy. With his curls all messy, you could tell that he still had bed hair.
"EH?" Alan looked around the room and saw Virgil walking in looking dispirited, "Hey Virgil, can you help me? I think Freddie is having a melt down,"
Virgil scoffed on his coffee from where Alan was requesting help, "No way, Scott and Kayo left you in charge and you've dealt with him yesterday by yourself you can do it again,"
"Oh fine," Alan grunted.
Virgil gave him a reassuring smile, tickling Lucy on the way out still sat on the table and walked out with his cup in his hand leaving Alan to deal with this by himself. Thinking what Scott or Kayo would do in this situation Alan held his arms out and Lucy jumped into them with a fit of laughter, huffing he turned to the heartbroken young boy beside him.
"I can't spike my hair because daddy usually does it for me," Freddie sulked, lifting with a single tear running down his face to Alan next to him.
"I can always try, I do my own," Freddie nodded as all three of them headed to the bathroom and he jumped onto the bathroom counter.
Watching from their own bedrooms Virgil and Gordon smiled when they saw Alan with the kids, while Jeff heard footsteps from underneath the door in his office wishing that his wife could see him bonding with them too, but she was always watching over them. Just like old times when the older brothers were looking after the younger ones.
After nearly a bottle of gel, Freddie's hair was completely spiked like a Mohawk. Turning the tap on to wash his hands Alan was impressed with himself he had never seen anything so unique before.
Freddie ran his fingers along the sides of his hair, "I love it! It's exactly like how daddy would do it!" Freddie praised his hair, "Can you do my sister's hair like this too?"
Alan chuckled picking up Lucy clapping her hands in excitement, "I think her hair is to short buddy, sorry," He didn't have much experience with ponytails or buns, anyway.
Stepping out of the bathroom, Alan received a call from Scott and Kayo and it wasn't good news.
