Planning

When Rose woke up in the morning it took her several moments to realize where she was. She was not in her room at the Harvey household, and she listened to make sure she wasn't in the TARDIS.

She scrunched her eyes up tight once more, not wanting to see the empty hotel room. A part of her hoped the Doctor had returned, but she was sure with his temper he was still fuming from their fight. Although from her perspective, it hadn't even been a fight. To really fight he would have had to say something back instead of just running away whenever she brought up anything important.

Letting out a long sigh, Rose rolled over and opened her eyes, blinking in the morning light. She had forgotten to entirely close the blinds last night. However, the first thing she really noticed in the room was the presence of a Time Lord.

The Doctor was curled up in the small chair squashed in the corner of the room, squinting at a pile of papers on his lap. He hadn't glanced up at her yet, but Rose was confident he knew she was awake. He always knew.

"Doctor?" Rose asked, her voice breaking the silence of the room as the Doctor jerkily looked up at her. He sent her a smile, though it didn't meet his eyes. "Watcha working on?" she questioned, rubbing her sleep filled eyes. She had decided she was going to act as if everything was normal and hope the Doctor followed suit.

"Sally Sparrow," the Doctor answered, not actually answering anything. When Rose just stayed silent, squinting her eyes in confusion, he let out a long sigh. Surprising Rose, he casually got up and sat down only a few inches away from her on the bed, motioning her over to make room as he leaned back against the headboard. He sniffed, pushing his glasses higher up his nose. "Do you remember when we were at the dragon hatchings?"

Rose nodded, remembering that particular adventure only a month or so before she had been transported to 1969. She didn't remember anyone named Sally, though she had mainly been focused on making sure the Doctor didn't exactly shoot anyone with his bow and arrow by accident. She pushed herself up into a sitting position on the bed, trying to act like it was no big deal that her shoulder was pressed up against the Doctor's.

"I do, but I don't understand how that relates to getting back to the TARDIS," she slowly said. "Are you just messing about?" she asked. She was sure the Doctor would put all of his focus on getting back to his time machine.

"No, no," the Doctor answered enthusiastically, pushing the stack of papers into her lap. She glanced through them quickly, not understanding anything. There was a lot of notes, some sort of scripts, and oddly familiar pictures. "She is an integral part of us getting the TARDIS back," he explained, smiling like a little boy. "Wrote out everything that we have to do to maintain the time loop."

Rose squinted as the Doctor rambled on for several more minutes, vaguely understanding what they had to do. It went over her head and the Doctor's word choice wasn't helping, but after traveling with him so long she had a better grasp on the concept of time.

"How long do we have?" Rose asked cautiously, interrupting the Doctor's ramble on the long list of tasks they had ahead of them.

She felt the Doctor tense up next to her before she answered. "January 3rd, 1970," the Doctor answered in a monotone voice, glancing down at her to gauge her reaction. When she didn't say anything, he continued. "I'm so sorry, Rose, you'll have been stuck here half a year."

"It's okay," Rose assured him, allowing herself to rest a reassuring hand on his arm. "Really," she said again. "Stuck with you, that's not so bad."

The Doctor smiled at her then, a sincere grin that he always had especially for her. "Yeah?" he asked, grinning even bigger when Rose rewarded him with a tongue in teeth smile.

"Yes," Rose answered, gathering the Doctor's hand in hers. She met his gaze for several long moments, trying to show him how very much she meant her words. She stroked her thumb over his hand, hoping that he would return the gesture.

Instead of acting as she wished he would, the Doctor suddenly moved. In a flash he was up off the bed, rocking back and forth on his heels with an overly enthusiastic grin on his face. "You've already slept half the day away, Rose," he began, "we have work to do."

Rose did a fair bit of grumbling as the Doctor laid out his plans for the day. Given the fact that they had three months, she figured they didn't need to do it all in order early, but supposedly the timelines were essential. From her review of the files she thought the only necessary times they had to hit was the arrival of Billy to 1969 and the eventual arrival of the TARDIS.

Still, she was glad to have a task besides her monotonous day job. Thankfully she didn't have to work today, but a part of her was wondering just how domestic it would feel to return to her desk job and come home to the Doctor. Would he be waiting for her with dinner? She almost had to laugh out loud, she knew the Doctor would be busy with a daft scheme all day he would hardly notice she was gone. They were hardly a couple from the past.

"Easiest task first," the Doctor announced, having just finished mapping out the logistics of their day. Supposedly if one thing was off in his letters the TARDIS would not return.

"Easiest?" Rose scoffed, fully dressed for the day and her hand aching to reach out for his as if it was the old time heading on an adventure. "I would say the most traumatic, going back to the mansion with the Weeping Angels."

"We know what we are facing now," he returned a manic grin. "Just keep your eyes open."

I know this chapter is short, but got to rev it up!
