After another couple weeks, Hawkes was relieved to be able to clear Rayne for school. Mac was getting her records transferred into New York Prep as he wanted her to have the best education she could get. He knew she still had friends outside of school that she could meet with after hours. But Mac was still building the case against Amara and Harold as he knew something wasn't adding up. As he saw Rayne rush through the kitchen and trip he grabbed her arm and helped her fall to the ground without hurting herself. "How many times will Hawkes and I have to tell you not to run in the house?"

"I dunno," she admitted looking up. He rolled his eyes and helped her up before looking at her. "I promise I won't run in the house again," she promised and he nodded at her while mentally rolling his eyes. He knew that promise would be broke in half within a month. As he saw she was eating, he went to go get her backpack and packed it all up before looking to see she was done. "Why'd I change schools?"

"Closer to work, more security," he listed casually and she glanced at him. "I honestly don't think we've heard the last of Amara and what's happened," he admitted as Jo walked in and she looked appalled at Mac while Rayne looked serious. "Jo, I'm not going to sit here and lie to Rayne about why I switched her schools. We all know it too. Something's not right. It went down way too quietly."

"She doesn't need to hear that," Jo answered looking at Mac. "We are going to lock them away," she promised Rayne who merely shrugged and looked out the window. "Thanks. Now she's not taking the promises that we'll lock them away," she whispered.

"She knows we will," Mac answered looking at Rayne. "But she's like me. She doesn't like to be told the good and not be warned of the bad." Jo looked at Rayne who nodded and he then looked at Rayne seriously. "The others girls that are still alive? Were they also victims of Amara's and Renaldo's?"

"No. Just of Ryan and the guy who attacked me," she promised. Mac nodded knowing they probably only had to worry about Rayne being a victim of the worst. "I saw too much," she dismissed standing up and taking her bag and slipping down to Mac's car and he knew she wouldn't talk yet.

Arriving, he hugged her as she smiled and he chuckled. "Flack will be picking you up after school today. You get a choice of where you get to go. You can come back to the lab, or you can head to Flack's place," he informed her.

"Lab," she responded and Mac nodded knowing why. She was close to Sid and Hawkes. As she climbed out he grabbed her hand for one second knowing it would catch her attention so she turned to face him and looked a little miffed. "I'd like to go inside."

"I know. But I just wanted to remind you a few things. Don't start a fight. If you have to fight you only do it until he's down. That's it. This school has a really strict policy about the fights. If you get busted for starting a fight you will be in the office for the entire day. No matter what." She nodded at him and he looked at her. "You remember the rules we went over right? The one for really bad offenses?"

"Yeah over the knee thing," she answered keeping the 's' word quiet as she knew modern society didn't fully like it. He nodded at her and she realized. "I won't. If I have to fight it'll be life or death," she promised him and he nodded at her.

"Good. I'll see you after school," he promised and she nodded heading inside to the classroom to see so many people and she went to the desk she was pointed to by her teacher and she sat down quietly knowing she was new.

"Alright class. So we have a new student today. Rayne Taylor has just come from a long string of issues that caused her harm in the New York orphanage system. So let's make sure we make her feel welcome," she informed. Rayne smiled knowing her last name was changed over to Taylor, but also wanted to punch someone for what the teacher had just said.

Meanwhile back in the lab, Mac was looking at the files they had. "I can't find anything that shows a sign of us being played. So far it looks like Amara and Harold are the only two out there," Mac began looking at the papers.

"Something Rayne said this morning bugs me. I saw too much," Jo responded and Mac nodded. He hadn't ever heard her say it before but he was making the most logical connection he could. She had been in reference to her rape and the attacks. "If it was about that, she wouldn't have said it around me." Mac looked at her shocked and she chuckled. "Despite me being a mother, I know one thing about kids. If their parents are in close proximity, if they say something, it's not about what we think. She saw something and she's openly admitted it."

"We need something more concrete before we can go into her face about that," Mac answered before he answered his phone as it rang. "This is detective Taylor," he greeted.

"Mac, we need you down in Central Park. There's a dead body of a little girl and it was ruled to be homicide as the girl was getting ready to be adopted," Flack informed him. Mac made a small sound and sounded alarmed as children being murdered was common but not for him. "There's a reason I'm calling you. We checked her wallet and in it was a photo of her, Wyatt Nairson and Rayne. The three of them knew each other and if there's something we know about Rayne," Flack began.

"She's a creature of habit," Mac responded. "So she might be able to identify the kid and any links they may have. She's at school and you're picking her up. Good thing she said she wanted to go to the lab after classes," Mac answered.

"I'll talk to her," Flack promised.

Over the course of the day, Mac's team was processing the girl and Sid had easily ruled it as a gunshot to the head. "Mac, when does Rayne get back to the lab for the day?"

"She'll be here soon. I'm hoping she'll be able to identify this girl. There was a picture of her, Wyatt Nairson and Rayne in her wallet. So they were close. Hopefully something she said this morning and this case? Will start to make sense," he answered.

"Bring her straight here. I might be able to get her to talk to me about this girl." Mac nodded knowing that Sid had a point in the matter. He was already jokingly Uncle Sid according to everyone on his team. Hawkes being the one to pester him the most about it.

When school was ending, Mac was busy looking over the case they were building with the District Attornies and tried to find a tie within the current suspects and their connections. Meanwhile, Rayne was just getting out of the building and saw Flack who chuckled as he hugged her side. "So how was it? First day of a new school?"

"Can you call it yawnfest? All we did was read books," she responded. Flack chuckled at her as he helped her into the car. "But there's a field trip I have to talk to M-dad about. We're thinking of going to the zoo for Science. Learn about animals. Though I don't see how that's science."

"Zoology. You'll learn about animals," Flack responded glancing back at her. He then realized her tongue slip again and smiled. "You do realize he likes it when you call him dad. Reassures his role to you in his head," Flack promised. He then parked and helped her out but paused looking at her. "Rayne, is there anything you haven't brought to light that we should know about?"

"No," she answered casually and then walked in with him to autopsy. "Thought I was catching up with dad up in the lab," she responded before Sid and Hawkes walked out. "What's going on? No offence I know I wouldn't just be lead down here."

"No. We found a body this morning and they had a picture with you in it. We need to see if you know who she is," Hawkes responded and Sid walked over to the tarp. "He won't move it until you're ready," Hawkes promised.

"Let's see," she responded casually and Hawkes nodded while he and Flack were directly behind her and as the face was revealed, they saw her face twist and she shook her head and tried to break away from their grasps. "Who killed her? What happened?"

"Execution style shot. Who is she?" Hawkes noted that Flack had to actually restrain her arms and hold her to himself as she was struggling. "Rayne. Look at me," Flack began and she wasn't listening and still trying to bust away from him. "Rayne," Flack began firmly, but Hawkes saw Sid had thought of the same thing that he had and injected her with a sedative and helped Flack and Hawkes lower her back to the ground as she was falling unconscious.

Mac walked down and rushed over as he saw her. "She freaked out. So she knows exactly who we're dealing with here and probably something about what happened. But we can't be certain. Sid and I had to sedate her down into this state. She was panicked Mac."

"Then that confirms that Jo was right this morning. When she said she saw too much? It wasn't about what she's experienced, although I'm sure it's got something to do with it. It's about something she knows she saw and hasn't spoke about."

"Then she lied to me," Flack responded looking at Mac and he glanced back. "I asked her casually if she hadn't said anything that we should be aware of. She said no. Clearly this contradicts the facts that we're seeing," he explained.

"I'll deal with that lie later," Mac responded. He then carried Rayne into his office and smiled in gratitude to Flack and Sid who helped pull out his couch. "Flack was there anything else she mentioned? Doesn't have to be negative."

"New York Prep is considering a trip to the zoo for her science class," he answered casually. Mac nodded and then as he worked on cases, he noted he was too tired to drive back home so he curled up with Rayne in the office and had the blinds closed so he could curl up with her.

Jo had naturally quietly peeked in on Rayne and Mac and smiled at the sight but knew from Rayne's face something was wrong. "We looked into the past of Rayne and this girl? Seems this picture was from a newspaper article on the three conspirators of the orphanage system. Rayne Drop was the conspirator of Ducatti's Den for Orphans. Wyatt Nairson managed to get a transfer and was the conspirator for the Hattie's Hellhole. Then our victim. Winona Fructon. She was the conspirator for the Sunnyside Orphanage. Looks like what we saw? Was Rayne's pass to help for a co-conspirator project. She wasn't a resident of Sunnyside ever. So we may have a reason that Rayne's life was attempted on."

"They're shutting the conspirators up and have missed the third one."

"Ryan, Renaldo, Amara and Harold? May just be a part of a ring trying to shut up the orphanage conspirators," Flack admitted as everyone looked at how Rayne looked to for once be sleeping peacefully with Mac holding her close. "She might have uncovered something nobody thought she'd ever learn."
