After a few weeks, the funeral was arranged and everything was set into place for the funeral of Rayne Drop-Taylor. When the day came, Reed Garrett walked over to Mac and he looked shocked. "Rayne was a good kid. She always listened when it came to my ideas for a story. She was a kid in the park but she was a friend. I wouldn't miss today."

"I'm sure she'd appreciate it Reed," Mac answered as they walked in and the Lab saw her body laying there. Hawkes and Sid were used to bodies but this one broke their hearts to see. One bullet to the brain had been the official COD but as the doctors assured, she didn't stop fighting meaning her death was long and drawn. Everyone talked until it was time for heading to the graveyard where everyone was allowed to share stories about Rayne as a send off.

"Rayne was one heck of a kid. She could be hurt but she didn't care. All she cared about? Were others. She wanted to make sure nobody faced the world's wrath. When we first met she was shy. She wanted to stick to Mac's side and required a lot of opening up. But once she knew you, she was a happy child. In her last days, she was helping fight for the State of New York. She knew something in her past was causing the mess and she wanted to bring it to it's end. Her school went into lockdown and she was taken. But she never gave up what she was to until she saw us. Her face beaten, bruised and bloody? Yet she promised us she was okay. She was ready to die if it meant the suffering ended. She's not going down as just some tragic accident. She's going down as a hero," Flack responded.

Mac smiled at Flack and the man squeezed his shoulder before they watched Lindsay walk up. "Rayne wasn't around me much, but she cared about Lucy. Wanted to see kids younger than her not suffer the cruelties she did. She never revealed to the lab she was a rape victim because she pulled through."

Slowly everyone had went and said their speeches until it came time for Mac and he looked in the casket. Rayne, I hope what I say about you does you justice. "Rayne was honestly a stranger to most of us for a little while. We didn't know who she was or what she was like. But like most things, with time she grew on us. She was a fighter. Every time she neared death, she fought back and got back up. She grew close to me and Peyton at first and Stella. Slowly she opened her walls to let in the rest of my team. When we learned she was a target the entire time, we always tried to protect her, but she continued on with her day as if nothing happened. Then when it came to her life actually being in danger, she still managed a smile and treated death like it was an old friend and wanted nothing more than to protect us. She treated everyone with kindness even when they deserved malice. Her old protectors? She died knowing she gave them kindness. But one of them took advantage of her innocence and had a trap set for her and managed to set it off. She died a hero."

While everyone was watching the body get lowered, Reed and Peyton both stood by Mac as Christine had to work and they felt their hearts sink before they walked away. Arriving at the NYPD Crime Lab, Mac and Reed walked into his office before they saw a box with Mac's name on it. Opening it, Mac couldn't believe it. As much as Sinclair was a pain to him sometimes, the man did have a heart. Stella had sent up a picture of Rayne with Mac and Peyton in the hospital and she was smiling. But it was a trophy or rather dedication medal of honor being given to Rayne but Mac was getting it since she died.

"Rayne Taylor. A hero of the NYPD by association," Reed read before he saw a letter and handed it over to Mac who knew it would be from Chief Sinclair and he wasn't sure if it was going to be sincere or just filled with stuff that they were trained to say.

Detective Taylor,

Rayne Drop was a wonderful young girl. I met her a couple times at the lab and though we didn't converse besides two words, she still was as you said with her funeral. She was kind to everyone she met and she wanted to make sure the world's cruelties didn't corrupt everyone. Your team has suffered a lot with Rayne's injuries and then it ending with her death. But I learned one thing about her from talking about her with other members of the lab. She was a daddy's girl. When she saw you happy, her smile came out. But everyone she protected was because she thought she needed to protect you and all you cared about. These moments fly by and we think nothing of them.

I have discussed it with HR and even though she was never a police officer, I have arranged with them and those above me to have a badge given to Rayne as she was as good as any NYPD cop and gave her life in service to the city. Her badge number that will forever belong to her? 8434. A badge that's very close to your's. She has earned it Mac and the fact that everyone from the lab could recount stories about her and her dedication to others makes me know that she has earned it.

Sincere Regards,

Brigham Sinclair

Mac looked at the letter sad and then placed what was in the box on his stands and smiled sadly at it. "I suggest you come with the rest of us to Rayne's hangout tonight. I told them where it was," Reed began and Mac nodded at him.

As the doors closed, Mac glanced to the sky and closed his eyes. "You were an angel taken from us way too soon. I wanted more time. But I hope while you're up there waiting for me? You meet Claire. My wife. She's as strict as me, but she would love you as much as I do. I love you Rayne and I'll always miss you," he whispered.
