Chapter 1: Apartment number 24
The carboard boxes were heavy in her arms. She cursed herself for picking two up, it made it impossible for her to see where se was going as she climbed up the stairs. She slowly put one foot in front of the other, trying to keep her balance. Her dark blue hair plastered to her face, clinging there from the sweat. She had climbed those flights of stairs carrying boxes all morning. Hinata concluded that moving was no fun. Her cousin had offered to help her, she however stubbornly refused. She was moving out, she was becoming independent, she would be her own person.
She finally reached her destination and with the help of her foot she opened the front door of apartment 23. The young woman put down the boxes on the wooden floor. She placed her hands on the small of her back and stretched it. She let out a heavy sight. The apartment was small, one bedroom, one small bathroom and the kitchen and living room were all one. She however had a little balcony that she would fill up with plants and that made her excited. She pumped her fists ready to undo the boxes and put everything in place.
She was startled by a small knock. She turned around to see a familiar face. "Now can I help?" her cousin asked. She could not help but smile. "Fine, if you really have to."
The small living room had acquired a cozier look. The small couch was adorned with soft pillows, the wide glass door that took to the balcony had cream colored curtains, the kitchen was full of colorful utensils and she even had a bright orange record player with all the vinyl neatly stored in a small bookcase. The young woman looked happy. "Finally! She dropped on the couch. I can call myself an adult. Ne nii-san?" The older boy let a smile graze his lips. "You sure are excited to leave the house." He could understand her, their house could be suffocating. For every member of their family leaving for college was a relief. He had felt that same freedom the year before.
"Are you sure you don't want me to accompany you tomorrow? You did not seem too sure on where to go." He suggested showing his concern. "N-no nii-san!" she stuttered out feeling embarrassment creep up her cheeks. "I will be fine, I have my bicycle. I promise I will wake up early so I have more time to get there. Plus, my campus is on the other side of yours." The young man looked at her for a moment and then let it go.
Her father had pushed her to pursue law or economics, like her older cousin. He had told her that he knew that she could manage anything as she was accepted into everything she had applied for. She, however, had her heart set on biology, and much to the dismay of her father she made her own decision. "How about then I come over for dinner tomorrow? So, you can test the kitchen." Her eyes glimmered as she nodded excitedly.

The girl climbed into her bed and looked around. The small desk was filled with her notebooks, computer, pens and all that she needed for university. The small bookcase in front of her bed was already filled to the brim with her beloved books. She could not wait to start studying and living by herself. She had begged her father to allow her to take on a par time job, but he had refused. He still had way too much control on her life, and Hinata hoped that that would change soon. A yawn escaped her lips as she fell back into the soft light blue covers. "Goodnight." She said to no one.

The light crept from the window. It was a cloudy October day. Hinata stretched on her bed, her eyes slowly opened as her gaze fell on the small alarm clock on the bedside table. The squared numbers marked 8:07 "CRAP! I'M LATE" The blue haired girl flew into the living room. Holding her toothbrush in one hand while trying to put on her boots. She had grabbed the first things that she had found¸ a black sweater and black jeans, so much for trying to make a good first impression. She quickly finished brushing her teeth as she put on her denim jacket and grabbed her backpack from the floor. She could not be late on her first day! Hinata sprinted down the stairs in a fury and ran out of the building and crossed the street to the bike rack. She clumsily pulled out her keys and tried unlocking the chain. She hopped on the light blue bike and flew to the university building.
However, Hinata would not be Hinata if she had not forgotten which way to go. On the verge of tears, she looked around for a clue. She saw other university students; however, she was sure this was the wrong building. She turned around, pedaling slowly looking for any sort of indication. Not looking where you are going when on a moving bicycle is not the greatest idea.
Next thing she knows she is on the ground. On top of the person she just ran into. The girl squealed as she turned bright red and shot up. She bowed profusely many times. "I-I am so so-sorry!" She kept her head bowed. The figure in front of her slowly got up. She could tell that it was a he, as he was taller than her. The young man dusted his clothes nonchalantly. He slowly turned around and started to walk away. Hinata's head shot up. She saw the slender looking man; he was tall as she had anticipated. Dressed all in black, just like her. His red hair was almost painful to look at as it was the most colorful thing around.
"An-no, ex-excuse me!" She managed to blurt out. He halted to a stop and slightly turned his head back. Her white eyes met blue ones. He had sharp features, he had those earing that stretched out your ears and a tattoo on his left temple. She was dumbstruck. Her face grew even redder, she had just run over a stranger and had called after him, she had to say something quick. "Co-could you please te-tell me where the biology building i-is?" He turned around completely. "First year?" his voice was low, and it sent a shiver down her spine. She quickly nodded as she did not trust herself to speak. "Go down that street and then turn left. This is the engineering campus." Hinata quickly bowed showing her gratitude and hopped on her bike and she literally flew away.

She had managed to get to her first class without incident. It was bustling with people, so many people that she struggled to find a spot. Her heart skipped a beat when she thought about the earlier incident. A soft hand rested on her shoulder. She turned back; her eyes met dark sunglasses. "Shino kun." She smiled; she was glad that she had a high school friend there with her. Hinata and Shino passed the day getting lost around hallways trying to find the right classes. Her heart was bursting with joy the entire day. At around 6 in the afternoon she once again climbed on her bike. She had to hurry to the supermarket, Neji would be coming soon and she needed to make dinner.
The young woman stood there pondering on which rice type to pick. She never had to do the shopping at home. This was yet a new experience. She approached the cash register and once again was off on her bike. Hinata knew that she had to hurry. However, she could just not resist. On her way home she noticed a small bookshop. She let out her bike and entered the bookstore. The smell of books filled her lungs, the mere sight of all that printed paper filled with words brought her joy. She approached the isle with the letter G and picked up her favorite book. She smiled as she opened it and read a few words. "Excuse me can I go through?" It was a familiar voice. Hinata looked up with a smile on her face ready to say sure go ahead. Her smile quickly faded when she saw him.
His striking blue eyes once again met hers. Her mouth went dry as she felt herself become agitated. Why did he make her so nervous? Acting on instinct the shoved the book she was holding in his hands and hurried away from the isle. She however tripped and caused a few books to stop. This just make her run away faster.
Without looking behind her she hopped on her bike and pedaled away. She was so glad that she had this bicycle.

Hinata approached her building and parked her bike outside. She half absently entered the building two grocery bags in her hands. Her thoughts travelled to the events of the day. All the work she had to do and everything else. The boy that she already ran into twice flashed in her mind, but she quickly shooed the thought away. She hummed in a content manner as she closed her eyes.
The girl had always been absent minded, so her untied boot had not concerned her earlier. However now she felt falling backwards on the stairs. Not good. A small scream escaped her lips, she braced herself for the impact. A second yelp came from her as she felt strong arms encircle her. "Jeez, you really are clumsy."
That low voice, no, it just couldn't be. Her face grew red as she turned around. His blue eyes were staring right down at her, again. "I'm so-so so sorry." Before he new it she had ran up the stairs and disappeared in apartment number 23.
Her back rested on the door. Her heart was pounding into the chest. She felt her body tremble. Well she thought, this is the famous flight or fight response we learned about today.
She slowly stood up her legs still trembling. She slowly brought her face to the small peep hole. And that's when she saw him for the fourth time that day. He was opening the door in front of hers. Apartment 24.
The boy she could not seem to avoid was her next-door neighbor. Curiosity took the best of her as she quietly opened her door and tiptoed to the door in front of her. Her eyes searching for something until it was there. The name tag. Written in a gruff but clear handwriting.
Sabaku Gaara.
