(A/N): Before we begin, I know I should be working on Set in Stone but I've had some ideas that wouldn't leave me alone so I just went ahead and started writing this. Now a little disclaimer: I've only seen the show and the Netflix movie, I know there's comics but I've never read any of them so if this story goes against the comics canon (then again, I'll probably be going against canon a bit anyway) so with that said, enjoy the story.
Chapter One: Lost in the City
The little robot blankly stared up at the T.V filled display window, seemingly hypnotised by the angry looking monkey, whose beady black eyes glared down into the robot's cyan optics that were hidden underneath the green and black dog suit he wore. Shows like this were the perfect distraction for him, all of the overwhelming emotions that all too often threatened to suffocate him momentarily forgotten, he would have turned this show on back home but he couldn't find it on the T.V. That was the main reason he decided to go on this walk in the first place, even Master decided to come along after accidentally ignoring him. He hadn't meant to ignore him of course, he had just been distracted with the emotions he didn't quite understand. Though, Gir wasn't sure if Master was actually concerned or if he was just humoring him, either way he was glad he came along.
A few minute's passed and a human inside the shop shut the T.V's in the window off, bringing the little robot out of his seemingly hypnotised state. He blinked a few times as he looked away from the T.V filled display window and already he could feel unwanted emotions beginning to close in on him like a thick fog of things he wished he couldn't feel, but he couldn't get rid of them as much as he wished he could.
Gir turned to the street behind him expecting to see Master standing there, waiting for him to get moving and yelling at him for not listening to him or maybe silently seething as he glared at the humans as they walked passed. He didn't want to be alone right now.
Gir didn't find his master standing behind him however. He took a few steps away from the display window, glancing down both sides of the sidewalk to see if maybe Master had decided to stand at one of the street corners or possibly the bus stop, angrily yet patiently waiting for him, he wasn't at either corner or the bus stop.
The little robot's worry grew as he lifted his gaze to the sidewalk across the street to see if maybe Master was doing something across the street, he scanned the other side of the street but couldn't find a trace of his Master.
Did Master go somewhere without telling him? Then again he hadn't been paying attention so he could have told him where he was going and he just didn't hear him. What if Master forgot about him? No, he wouldn't forget about him, Master had a great memory! He could remember things he couldn't.
It was then a question popped into his mind, a question he didn't like asking… Did… had he been left here on purpose, abandoned… Gir immediately shook that thought out of his head. No, Master wouldn't abandon him, the little robot knew perfectly well the invader cared about him, even if he pretended otherwise, he really did care.
What if Master had been captured, his kidnappers knocking him out or something like that so he couldn't call for help, that was more likely than being abandoned.
Gir figured the best course of action would be to head back home and see if Master was there, if he wasn't there then he'd search elsewhere… Then it dawned on him, he didn't know where home was nor did he have anyway to find home.
He had a chip that would have shown him the way but he left it on the counter in the kitchen, he had forgotten all about the chip when he was filling his rocket fuel tanks with chocolate pudding. Gir wasn't sure why he decided to store the pudding there, he could have stored it in the little compartment in his head but that was currently filled with a small beehive and a bunch of bees.
With a sigh, the little lost robot began to walk, figuring the best thing he could do in this situation would be to walk until he either found Master or he found home, he was bound to find either one eventually.
Gir had been walking for a full hour and he had no luck in finding home or his master, he was now completely lost. He was in a part of the city he didn't recognise and he thought he had seen every inch of this place, guess he was wrong.
With his head hung low, the dog disguised robot sadly walked over to a nearby bench that sat below a large tree. He needed to sit for a bit and figure out how in the world he was going to get home now with as lost as he was. Gir climbed onto the bench and stared down at the concrete beneath him, deep in thought and didn't even acknowledge the human that he just sat next to.
The human girl that sat beside the strange looking dog simply stared at him as he leaned against the benches metal armrest, hugging his little knees to his little chest. The little dog muttered something sadly under his breath that she couldn't make out, confusing the girl even more. She couldn't help but quirk a brow at the small dog, he talked! She was currently sitting next to a talking dog, she wasn't too fazed by this fact however, there were much stranger things in this city than a talking dog.
What concerned the girl more however was how upset the little dog looked, she didn't like seeing such a little puppy so sad like this, "Hey," The girl reached her arm out, placing her hand on the little dogs head and was surprised to find that the dogs green and black fur felt a lot like fabric for some reason, okay that was odd.
The dog flinched in surprise at her touch and looked up at her as if he had just realized she was sitting there which concerned her more, she pulled her arm back and placed her hand on her lap, "Are you okay?" She asked kindly, softly tilting her head.
The dog gave her a little nod as he leaned back up, placing his little black paws in his lap and keeping his gaze on the ground, "I'm fine…" He muttered, the little dog's voice sounded high pitched, almost like a child's.
"You don't seem fine." The girl replied, her gaze narrowing at the black collar around his neck with the snapped end of a leash attached to it, "Where's your owner?"
The dog sadly shrugged, "I dunno… lost 'im…" The poor thing sounded close to tears, just hearing how upset he was made her want to scoop him up into a hug and tell everything would be okay.
"You're lost?" She asked him, it explained why he was so sad.
The dog gave her a miserable nod as he curled himself back up, hugging his knees to his chest once more as he rested his fuzzy cheek against the back of the bench.
"You poor thing." The girl cooed sadly, pulling him closer to her. He didn't seem to mind as he laid his head onto her leg and sniffed sadly, she couldn't bare to see the little guy like this, she had to do something. "You need some help finding your owner buddy?" She asked, figuring it was the best thing she could do, finding his owner could make him feel better.
The dog continued staring at the sidewalk for a moment before looking up at her, his little black eyes filled with hope, "You can help me find Master?" He asked excitedly, his little tail wagging happily as he stared at her.
Master? That's not what she had been expecting him to call his owner, she had been expecting him to call them by their name, but whatever floats his boat, she wouldn't question it.
The girl shook her head, "I don't know where your master is, sorry." She replied, the little digs hopeful expression deflated as his eyes began to fill with tears, "But I can help you look for them."
"Really?" The dog asked, his high pitched voice filled with joy as he leaned into her face. The look the puppy was giving her practically made her heart stop from cuteness overload.
"Of course I'll help you." The girl told him as she got to her feet, she couldn't help but smile when the little dog wrapped his stubby arms around her arm and softly murmured, "Thank you."
"No problem little buddy." She said, giving him a pat on the head, "So what your name?" The girl asked as they began walking, feeling a bit silly that she hadn't asked that earlier.
"Gir." The dog replied with a smile.
'Gir' huh, cute name, it definitely fits. An odd but cute name for an odd but cute dog,
"Nice to meet you Gir, I'm Mela."
