My feet pounded against the pavement, as I ran as fast as I could. I was always terrible at P.E, but I never thought that it might cost me my life.

I had been attacked on my way home from school. Not by a person, not even an animal, at least not any that I've ever seen before. But it has to be something, so it must be some type of animal.

It looked like a lion, but I could've sworn there was a goat head coming out of it's back, and that its tail was a snake.

I must be imagining things. I looked back to see that it was ganging up on me.

Then, a guy from my class, Kevin, pulled me into an alley.

"Kevin?" I asked, surprised.

He shushed me, and I complied, but I wanted to ask him so many questions.

He pulled me through the other side of the alley, and we ran in a zigzag, ending up a few blocks away from the school, with no sign of the creature.

"What was that? Do you know? Because I've never seen anything like it in my life" I questioned him.

"Its a chimera"

"A what?"

"A chimera. Like in Greek Mythology"

I rolled my eyes, "Stop joking around, Greek Mythology isn't real. It's called mythology for a reason"

"I know it sounds crazy but you have to trust me." He thought for a second, before adding, "How else do you explain the goat head on it's back or the snake tail?"

"I wasn't imagining those?" I asked, obviously confused.

"No, you weren't, but we need to go, now! How far is your house from here?"

"Just a few blocks"

My house was just a few streets down from my school in Albany, Oregon. I didn't like school that much, because of my ADHD and dyslexia. Some classes I liked better than others, though.

"So, let's go then!" He demanded, so I brought him to my house.

When we walked in, mom was was cooking dinner.

"Hey Fiona" she turned around, and saw Kevin. "Who's your friend?"

"This is Kevin" I said, walking into the kitchen. "What's for dinner? I'm really hungry, I was chased by some animal on the way home from school"

"Mashed potatoes and gravy" she informed me with a smile.

"Yum!"

Mom turned to Kevin. "Will you be staying for dinner?"

"Actually, we need to go" he said motioning to the three of us, then thought for a second, then said, "Well, I guess we can eat dinner first"

"Go where? It's a school night"

"You know about her father, right?" He asked, which is a really weird question if you ask me.

"What about him?" Mom asked, obviously just as confused as I was.

"Where he's from, why he had to leave... why she's different" He whispered the last part, but I still heard, and I was confused by it. I was, however, more confused by the first part.

"Leave?" I asked.

"Yeah, why he couldn't stay with you guys"

"David's just at work..." mom trailed off, probably wondering what the hell Kevin was talking about, like I was.

"But I was su- wait, are you both biologically related to her?"

"No, but I've been with her and her father since she was born, I am her mother, and, frankly, I don't know why that's any of your business!"

"Sorry, Ms. Fairfield, but its important. I'm not questioning your role in her life, but this is about her safety. She's a halfblood, I can smell it"

"A halfblood?" I asked.

"Yeah. A child of one of the gods"

"Gods?" Mom and both repeated at the same time.

"Greek gods, more specifically"

Mom rolled her eyes. "Yeah, right" she said sarcastically. "If you're just going mess around with us, and insist something like that, then maybe you should go"

I nodded.

"I can prove it" he stated, and started taking off his shoes and pants.

"What are you doing?!?" I exclaimed, looking away, mom saying something similar.

"No. Look" He said, and I slowly removed my hand from over my eyes.

"Y-your legs" I said, shocked, because he had hooves and goat legs.

"What the hell?" Mom exclaimed, just as shocked as me.

"Greek Mythology is real. I'm a satyr, I was assigned to find half-bloods and bring them to Camp Halfblood so they can train safely. She'll probably only have to stay there during summers, don't worry."

"I- well I- why does she have to go to a camp?"

"Because being a halfblood is dangerous, there is a barrier that protects from monsters, and they train there. And now that she knows she's one, her scent will get stronger, attracting more monsters. And it's in New York, New York, so we should leave soon"

I stared at him, eyes wide. Before anyone could say anything, the door opened.

"Hey guys. Who's this?" My dad said, and we all turned to him. He then noticed Kevin's goat legs and hooves.

"Oh. You're a, um, satyr, right?"

"Yeah. So, you know the truth about her mom-"

Mom glared at him.

"Her, uh, biological mother, I mean" he corrected himself.

"Yeah. She told me when we found out about Fiona"

"Is that why you never told me her name?" Mom questioned.

"Yeah. It's Demeter by the way"

Mom and I looked at each other then back at dad.

"Can we eat dinner first?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"Yeah, but we should leave after that, okay?"

We all nodded and sat down, while mom served us all some food.

"Thanks mom"

"Thanks hon"

"Thanks Ms. Fairfield"

She smiled and sat down. "You can call me Lily"

He nodded and started eating, and so did we. After the (delicious) food was all gone, mom washed the dishes real quick, then turned to Kevin.

"So, what now?" She asked him quietly.

"Well, one of you need to drive us to camp halfblood. I know that it's pretty far, but it will take a lot longer and be way more dangerous if we have to go there by foot" Kevin informed us.

"Where is it, again?" dad asked.

"New York, New York. More specifically, Long island."

Mom said something quietly to dad and he nodded. "We'll take turns driving" she announced, and dad nodded again.

I packed a bag really quick, then went to the car where everyone was waiting.

"You guys didn't forget the music, did you?" I asked, because every time we took a long (or semi-long) car ride, we'd bring music, and sing along to most of the songs.

First we listened to Red Wanting Blue: Vanishing Point (great band, by the way), then the bandits soundtrack, along with some other really good ones.

Now, I know we could've taken a plane, but as mom said when Kevin asked, we would rather have a road trip, so we could spend more time together before I have to leave.

Kevin argued, by the three of us insisted.

Amost two days later, dad was driving, we where playing the alphabet game, and Kevin told us to stop in the middle of nowhere.

Dad frowned, "There's nothing here"

"Trust me, there is" Kevin said, getting out of the car. We all followed, because he seemed to be the expert.

We followed him up a hill, by a single tree.

"Come on, it's just beyond this tree. It's the boarder line for the camp. Force field. But you two can't enter"

"What!?"

"Why?!"

"Mortals can't pass the boarder. Sorry"

I ran up to my parents and hugged both of them.

"Bye mom, dad, love you. See you later."

"Bye Fiona, love you" mom said, squeezing me tighter.

"Bye Fi, see you after summer"

We let go, Kevin motioning me to hurry up.

I took a deep breath, the crossed to boarder into camp halfblood.
