"Hey sweet girl."
Korra smirked at her lover. But it didn't receive the heartwarming love she thought it was going to get.
Asami dropped the lamp and covered her ears.
"No, no I- maybe I'm still dreaming?" She said, trying to rationalize. "Maybe I really am going crazy." Korra tried to walk up to her. "Hell no!" Asami yelled, backing away from Korra. She hurriedly ran down the stairs trying to leave the house.
"No, Asami wait-" Korra called out. She tried running after her but somehow was transported to the end of the stairs. "Well that's new." She said to herself looking at her body. Korra ran around the corner, stopping, seeing Asami pacing back and forth in the kitchen.
"This is not real, this is not real." She repeated over and over again shaking her head. Korra slowly walked over to her, hands out to softly grab Asami.
"My love, it's- it's really me" Korra said slowly as she grabbed a hold of Asami's arm and began to lower it.
"This can't be-"
"It is my love. I'm here right now and I- I came back to-'' Korra cut herself short thinking it'd be better to not share her mission details. Asami looked up.
"Came to what?"
"I just couldn't leave you baby, that's all." Korra said. They somehow found their way to the kitchen floor and Korra scooted behind Asami to hold her.
"It's just not, this can't be possible." Asami said in Korra's arms still in disbelief.
"Oh how much I agree with you baby" Korra thought to herself. "Baby our love is just that strong." Korra half laughed. She let her forehead fall and rest on the center of Asami's back for a moment. Her head raised when she felt Asami's upper body jump up and down.
"Baby?" Korra questioned, concerned. She leaned Asami's head back and saw the tears ceaselessly running down her face.
"Korra you just don't understand…" she said, voice choking on emotion. "I felt empty without you." She cried out barely holding anything back. "I-I dreamed of you every night. I felt you, I.." She took a breath, "tried to come to you." Asami let out. She heaved in and out as she let her emotions run with her tears. She still wasn't sure if this was a dream or a break in her mental, but she couldn't get rid of the amount of joy she felt being in her lover's arms again. Her pain and longing was finally gone. Korra sat there as Asami confessed. She contemplated if she should tell her she already knew about those things and the dreams.
"I-I know sweet girl, I was there the dreams were real and I pulled you from that water." Korra said, leaning and resting her head on the island base. She felt Asami shift between her legs sitting sideways to look at her. Her jade eyes drowned by her tears.
"You really were there? I knew I was right" Asami said, holding her hand to her mouth. She fell into Korra's chest and silently cried. Korra was at a loss for words still reeling about how she was actually back, back home, and back with her girl. But she couldn't stop feeling a pang in her chest. How was she supposed to save Asami and not become selfish too? Oh how she wanted to stay with her forever but she knew she couldn't. Korra would try to stay away from that thought for right now. She stood and picked Asami up and carried them back to their bedroom. She slowly went up the stairs so as not to disturb Asami in her state and laid them both down making sure Asami never moved from her position. Asami sniffled and took one last deep breath as she laid on Korra's chest.
"Korra?"
"Hmm?" She hummed.
"I'm sorry, for the night you-"
"No, no." Korra said, trying to cut her off.
"But it's my fault." Asami said.
"No baby it's not, don't worry." Korra said as she rubbed her head. She didn't want to hear how she died and she didn't want to believe that it was Asami's fault.
She calmly shushed her trying to keep Asami from blaming herself. She held onto her for another thirty minutes until she felt the rhythmic pattern of sleep. She slowly tried to move from her so as not to wake her, but ended up phase jumping to the couch in their room.
"I definitely have to figure out how to control this shit!" She said to herself. She may have been dead but this definitely was a perk. She thought about how far she could phase jump and thought about her parents but she couldn't dare face them. Even though they couldn't see her, she didn't want to see them post her death. She sat and watched Asami sleep, remembering how peaceful it was to just do that. But she was still deep in thought. So many unanswered questions ran through her mind. "How long do I have with her? How do I exactly keep Asami from coming to the spirit world with me? What if I fail? Should I just tell her?" Korra wasn't sure what to do. Should she even worry about it right now? " I mean why can't I just have a few days to be selfish? Hell, even Iroh said "No time like dead time!" it's not like I got somewhere to be, hell I'm at the last place I'm supposed to be!" After giving it some thought she decided she was gonna take a few days just to be with her love. She smiled at the light snores Asami produced. She usually only snores like that when she sleeps well. "I wonder how long it's been since you slept like that…'' Korra said out loud. She figured she let Asami sleep a little while more. She wanted to do some exploring with her new found power. She focused on their back patio from their bedroom window and wondered if she could jump there. "Okay let's try this, just imagine it Korra and-" She tried to jump and when she opened her eyes she was still in their bedroom. "Okay how's this shit supposed to work?" She tried again a few more times and still nothing. She gave up and plopped on the bed and as soon as she landed she felt hardwood in the place of a soft mattress. "Ain't this bout some shi- man if this isn't the biggest lag, then I don't know what is." She said, rolling her eyes. She slowly lifted up, realizing she was more startled than hurt. "I guess it makes sense I feel no pain." She got up and dusted her knee off and sat down on the patio stairs and looked over their backyard. She heard yelling and looked around to see where it came from.
"No, so I was dreaming!? This can't be real. Fuck." She heard Asami call out. She looked up at their bedroom windows and jumped to the room within seconds. The air around her sent a small blast that ruffled her and Asami's clothes.
"Baby are you okay?" Korra asked frantically. "I heard yelling."
Asami looked at her confused. "I didn't yell?"
"What do you mean? You said "No, so I was dreaming" didn't you?" Korra asked.
"Uhh- well yeah but I thought that I didn't say it" Asami said, still confused.
Korra stood there dumbfounded. Was this another power? "I think I can hear your thoughts, Asami." Korra said sitting on the bed. "Think of something."
"Okay," Asami said.
"Did you hear it?"
"No, that's weird?" Korra thought for a second.
"Wait how'd you get here so fast?" Asami asked
"I guess I can jump places. I was trying to do it while you were sleeping, I ended up outside then I heard you and I was back up here. Not sure but I guess this is a new power I have." She said scratching the back of her neck.
"I'm seeing my dead girlfriend… and now she has powers I really must have lost it." Asami said sitting on the couch with her hand on her forehead. Korra slid from the bed over to the couch. She laughed a bit, "Yeah this is some shit."

Night had finally fallen upon them and they got ready for bed. Asami was still a bit uneasy about the whole thing and would slightly touch Korra from time to time to make sure this was reality. Her last sneaky touch causes a hearty laugh to erupt from Korra. "Babe yes I am really, you don't have to keep sneaking touches." She kissed Asami's forehead and brought Asami to her chest. Asami let off a small chuckle.
"I guess you're right. But I also haven't touched you in a while. I think that's another reason why I keep doing that. I'm also a bit nervous to sleep next to you again, it's been so long." Asami said, leaning back to look at Korra. She rested her head on Korra's arm and closed her eyes, humming to herself. Korra softly played in her head and smiled to herself. "Well you better get used to it, I miss sleeping on my side of the bed." Korra slid down and bit and got more comfortable.
Not long after, Asami was sound asleep. Her breathing body flickering her shadow back and forth in the lamp light. Sleep hadn't found Korra yet, she still wasn't sure if she was even able to sleep, or was she too scared to? Sleep is just boneless death, she thought and if she's already dead, then what to a dead person is sleep? She laid on her back with her arms behind her head. "Maybe I should just close my eyes and wait for morning." She said aloud. Before she closed her eyes she caught a flicker of a shadow. Not the one Asami's sleeping body produced but one that seemed to be hooded. She slowly sat up for a second looking around. She saw nothing and figured it was some illusion, but that answer didn't satisfy her. Something deeper in her still felt like it was actually something or someone. But for right now she'd let it be. She slowly got up from the bed and quietly walked down stairs. She flicked on the living room light and walked to the mantle. She smiled to herself as she picked up a picture of her and Asami. It wasn't taken too long ago and Korra could remember it like it was yesterday. "Crazy how one day you're here and the next you're gone." She let out a half defeated sigh but it was carried away and replaced with a smile. She picked up the picture of her, Asami, the boys and Opal, remembering the day they went to the beach. But her smile was soon gone as she caught the same flicker in the corner of her eye. This time she was sure she'd seen it. Korra turned fully to where she had last seen the shadow and saw nothing. She looked to the side and caught a glimpse of a tattered black cloak. She followed it to the kitchen and turned on the light, nothing. She sucked her teeth, tired of these games. She decided to leave well enough alone and get back to her love. "Been gone a whole month and I would rather catch shadows than lay with Asami." She shook her head and jogged up the stairs not feeling the hidden eyes watching her. Once in the room she slid out of her shirt and laid back next to Asami, who involuntarily scooted closer to Korra's body. Korra kissed her forehead and closed her eyes trying for sleep again. I'd say she found it but was this actually sleep? It felt sort of like a dream to Korra but it was very dark except for a half lit understory surrounded by trees. The winding bare branches signified something of death's equivalent. She made her way through the skinny and pointed branches until she stood in the middle of the understory. She strained her eyes to see through the poorly lit clearing but to no avail. The trail of a tattered cloak caught her eye again, and she wanted to put a stop to this tired game.
"Show yourself." She demanded, eyebrows furrowing.
A menacing laugh filled the air, her eyes searched around the understory but she couldn't pinpoint where it came from. "You dare demand me to show myself? I laugh, Korra" The thunderous voice boomed.
Korra raised an eyebrow, and inquired, "Do I know you?"
"Ah let us see if you do... I come to bedsides, icy bridges, battlefronts, and crumbling ridges. When I come... I come alone, tap a shoulder...then I'm gone." The voice eerily finished. Korra thought for a moment then her eyes widened and a sudden sense of coldness took over her.
"You're the-"
