After Worf, Lore, and Guinan had finished reassembling the bar, they shared one of Guinan's vintage bottles. Lore didn't drink any but he appreciated the sentiment.
Worf cleared his throat, looking somewhat sheepish. An odd expression for the Klingon.
"I apologize for punching you, Lore. There was no way you could fight back, and that was dishonorable of me," he said to Lore.
Lore considered his apology for a moment. He had been more at fault than Worf for the one sided fight, so really he should be the one apologizing. Worf must have hit him harder than he had thought, he was going soft. Well, not completely soft, as he let Worf squirm for a couple seconds before replying.
"I forgive you," he replied. And then added, "Borf," with a smirk, for good measure. Worf grimaced.
"What a backhanded forgiveness," Guinan observed, taking a sip from her glass.
Lore snorted, what did she expect?
Everyone was silent for a breath, before Guinan nudged Lore with her elbow, looking at him pointedly.
He furrowed his brow in confusion, which triggered a face tick. Guinan looked from Lore to Worf and back again expectantly.
Lore was still immensely confused. She sighed and mouthed "I'm sorry," at him.
"Oh, uh, Bo-," he began, picking up on her hint, "Worf, I'm sorry as well, I shouldn't have been so annoying."
"Apology accepted," Worf rumbled. He held out his hand, which Lore shook firmly. Guinan grinned, looking quite proud of herself.
"That's a great start to forgiveness, Lore," she said.
He scowled. Who else needed to forgive him? Did he need to forgive anyone?
Well, he supposed his attempt to destroy the Enterprise⦠twice, might beg an apology, but he also needed apologies from those who had wronged him. He and Worf had made up, sure. They might have even become tolerable of each other now, (Lore wasn't willing to stretch quite as far as friends, he wasn't that naive.) He did feel a companionship with Guinan as well. But that didn't right the wrongs that his father had made. That didn't heal the years of sadness and jealousy and betrayal that Lore had felt, being seen as inferior to Data. But it was a start.
"Maybe," he replied to Guinan, with a guarded expression.
She looked slightly disappointed, but covered it up quickly.
"I guess that's as good as I'll get," she said. She collected the empty glasses on the counter and swept them out of sight.
"Well! You two should clear out before you make another mess in my bar," she exclaimed.
Worf and Lore stood up, knowing better than to argue. Lore felt a pang of chagrin. He had to admit, he was not thrilled to leave, knowing that he would just end up spending the rest of the day in his room. He might be civil with Worf and Guinan, but that privilege did not extend to the rest of the ship in the slightest.
"I'm serious, out," Guinan repeated, waving her hands in a shooing gesture. Worf and Lore didn't need to be told twice. They walked out the door together, and Lore couldn't help making a snide remark.
"Careful Borf, you might not want to be near me. Can't have people thinking you're starting to like me."
"Shut up, or I'll punch you again," Worf shot back in good nature.
Guinan smiled as she watched them leave. She had sensed a lot of deep hurt in Lore, and she didn't think he had ever been truly appreciated. She didn't think anyone should have to feel that way, so she would do her best to make Lore feel loved and accepted. People aren't born evil, they are made evil, and Guinan believes that extends to androids as well.
