The world was white and fuzzy. It took Zoe a moment to realize that her eyes were closed and the morning sun was splashed across her face. She was alone in the room- Bill evidently left some time ago. Drat! She must have slept in. She was usually up before Jamie. If he woke before her too, she would never hear the end of it from him. That horrifying thought in her mind, she leapt from the bed and sped through her morning routine. As she approached the staircase, she figured a prim and proper descent would be better than the hurried pace she had been setting. She did not want to give Jamie more ammunition or embarrass herself in front of Bill.

As it turned out (to Zoe's disappointment), the thought she had out into her entrance did not matter. The only person in the inn's lobby was the receptionist Umar. He had his head on his desk and was swaying slightly back and forth.

"Good morning, Umar."

Umar shot straight up and stumbled backwards a half step, his eyes ficking frantically around before they finally located Zoe. She waved, and his characteristic broad smile returned.

"Hey! Sorry about that," he said, righting himself and getting back to his place behind the desk. "It's been, like, an hour since your dads left, and they were the only people I've seen today, so… I got kind of bored. Sorry!

"Also, before they left they gave me this letter to give to you." Umar disappeared under the desk for a few moments before resurfacing with a little white square. He paused for a moment before handing it over. "At least, I think it's a letter…It's for you. I haven't read it."

It was a napkin. Hastily written words in what Zoe recognized as her Doctor's handwriting read, Gone to find Jamie and Bill. Stay here until we come back.

Hmm. If the Doctors had been gone about an hour, how long ago did Jamie and Bill leave? Were they okay? Probably not, Zoe thought, but shook that off in favor of maybe, and maybe they found something so interesting that the Doctors got sidetracked too. The second thought was not very logical, knowing her friends, but she had been trying to be less logical recently… but no. She was not going to stay here while the others were probably doing something very stupid. Her presence would not get them to stop doing the Stupid Thing, but she was one more brain to help figure out how to get them out of the Consequences of the Stupid Thing, so she may as well go exploring after them.

Usually when trying to find somebody, the logical thing to do is to go to the place they would most likely be. An athletic person might gravitate to a gym, or a musician to a theater, for example. But with the Doctor in a new place, everywhere was the most likely place Zoe could find him. He was like a butterfly, always flitting from place to place and equally enthusiastic about all of them. No, that's not quite true. The Doctor may be a traveller, but at heart he was a troublemaker, so the best place to find him is where he could make the most of it. The tunnels were where Zoe would start to look for her friends, then.

The plan was straightforward, but immediately derailed by one word.

"Zoe!" As she exited the Diville Inn into the bright midmorning, the librarian, Cassandra Sims, ran up to her precariously balancing a large stack of books. The top one fell as the woman skidded to a stop in front of Zoe, who snatched it out of the air.

"Thanks for that! I wanted to say hello, and ask how your night went!"

"Oh, it was, erm, fine," Zoe responded, pointedly not thinking about her nightmare. "It's lovely to see you Miss Sims, but I'm actually looking for my friends right now." She gave what she hoped was an apologetic smile.

"Come on by the library, then! It really is the best place to start a search. And besides, I could do with some help getting these over," Cassandra pointed to her stack with her chin. Zoe deliberated. "... I also have mini souflées."

The library was a lot more welcoming when she was not breaking in, Zoe decided. The lit candles and burning incense gave the place a cozy feeling, and there were indeed some mini souflées sitting on the front desk. Zoe grabbed a few to surprise the Doctors with when she found them. Deciding to be a good guest (and make up for the previous day's breaking and entering), Zoe began to reshelve the books Cassandra had given her rather than drop them, say "ta!" and race out. She had gotten a good look at the library's cataloguing system last time she was there, so it was not much effort to find out where each of the books belonged. However, she took note of one place that was empty where previously there had been a book- the little blue book with silver leaf she had happened across when chatting with Bill was gone. Oddly disturbed by this, Zoe approached the librarian.

"I see one of your books is missing," she said. Seeing where Zoe was pointing, Cassandra laughed.

"Oh, that one? The Mayor checked it out earlier today. Probably for some light reading! I don't know what he's hoping to get out of it, since I've never known anybody who could read it, but it's interesting enough to puzzle over and I'm not one to deny a book to anybody! Thanks for the help, by the way."

"Of course! But I don't think my friends have been here and I really must go find them."

"See you later, Zoe! And if you have any more problems, the library will be open for you from now on!"

The tunnels were a lot darker without her friends beside her. Luckily, she could hear echoes from further in- not enough to catch what was being said, but enough to follow. She raced her way through them before- "Oof!"- she bumped right into her Doctor, who, once he regained his balance, smiled kindly at her.

"Zoe! You're here too, eh? Have you found Jamie and Bill yet?"

"No, I just got down here. Where's the other Doctor?"

Two harrumphed. "He's raced down after those voices. Absolutely no regard for my speed." He lowered his voice to a whisper. "I am glad to not be stuck with him, though. We've been stuck down here for hours. If only he'd have listened to me!"

"Great, great, come on! We've got to catch up!"

They found Twelve staring down Monroe, his guards surrounding Jamie and Bill who were standing in front of a red door.

The same red door Zoe had dreamed of last night.

As Zoe felt overwhelmed by dread, she saw out of the corner of her eye Jamie relax as he saw her and their Doctor, reach into his pocket, and take out a small object.

"Doctor!" he shouted. "It's a Yeti statue! The Great Intelligence is here!"
