7. Cruelty of a lady
Hell cannot be as terrible, Adrien thought as he walked with Chloe Bourgeois on his right arm and Lila Rossi on the other. His own father and theirs had practically commissioned him to escort Lila and Chloe around town.
"Who do you think that will be the first accused? I know my mother has people in mind already," spoke Chloe.
"I think it should be Anarka Couffaine. She was seen walking around town last night completely alone!"
"If that makes her a witch, then we all are," Adrien snapped before he could bite his tongue.
Both girls chuckled as if he had said something funny.
"It's not about that, honey," said Lila. "She was clearly defying your father's orders!"
Therefore, she must burn.
"She wasn't even at church yesterday, she probably didn't know."
"That too! She never goes to church."
Adrien closed his eyes.
"How is the new girl?"
He abruptly opened them.
"What?"
"The Lenoir girl," she repeated. "What was it? Maria?"
"Marinette. She is very kind and smart."
And funny, and beautiful.
Chloe clenched her teeth.
"Is she? Why is she called Lenoir, has she no father?"
"I do not know and I shall not ask."
Both girls noticed the nuisance in his voice and looked at one another. This wasn't the Adrien they were used to.
Once they reached the Agreste household, he left them there claiming that he had matters to attend to. And he did, he had to warn Luka.
Chloe and Lila watched him leave without a word. And then looked at each other. They were at war for that man, but as for the rest, they were each other's best ally.
"I think that this new girl could be a problem," Lila stated. "You know how men are: like kids dazzled by the new candle."
Chloe frowned.
"I don't. The dazzling never lasts long. I will call my butler, I want to leave."
