13. Water is wet
"What do you mean by a trial? This is outrageous! You cannot…!"
Gabriel slammed his book on the oak wooden desk.
"I will not have my own son tell me what I can and cannot do."
Adrien swallowed a couple of curses.
"Don't take it from your son, take it from a citizen. You can't begin a trial without an accusation."
"But there is an accusation."
Adrien's jaw fell to the ground.
"From who?"
"Given to father Damocles anonymously."
"Father, how do you know that they aren't simply falsely accusing each other?"
"That is why we are having a trial."
Gabriel sounded angry and annoyed, as if Adrien was pointing that water was wet. Before condemning himself, Adrien left the room.
He went straight to the stables and took his horse and left.
His father was so many things, many that he couldn't forgive but could overlook, but now? Was he truly going to start sending people to prison?
Adrien rode on his black horse around the crowded streets of Saint Emilie. People seemed to have lost a lot of spirit, they were afraid. The young man shook his head. Had his mother lived, it would've killed her to be locked down and depending on a butler or Gabriel's will and time to go out with her.
People greeted him with certain fear. He wondered what kind of rumors were going around.
