Ch. 27: The Calm…
Hello Readers! I have been gone for a long while, but I am set for the next chapter. As usual, I don't own Super Smash Bros, Sonic, or Fire Emblem. Any ideas for the story are made up by me.
Ganondorf exited the room after the next round announcement. He was not phased that his nemesis, Sonic, had advanced to the semifinals. He was more focused on the plan ahead. He was rushing through the mansion thinking about the grand scheme. He made it to the entrance of his secret base and escaped to the security of his lair. All the while, he was still being tracked by Shadow, who saw his opening to enter the base, but he had to hurry for his opportunity was closing. At the final second, he rushed in and continued tailing Ganondorf.
Ganondorf, unaware of his pursuer, was now making his way to the main area of the base when he met up with Eggman. "How was the tournament, Ganondorf," he wondered. Ganondorf just shrugged, " Nothing out of the ordinary, but Sonic still advanced to the semis. He is starting to become a nuisance." Eggman was not surprised by the news of Sonic's participation. He crossed his arms and started brooding, "Do you know of a way to stop him?" Ganondorf just turned and shook his head, "No, but he is not my biggest concern. We have to focus on the matter hand. What is the latest on our progress of our army?" Eggman shook off his questioning look and went to the computer, "Yes, the army should be completed soon. We are about 75% of the way to our goal." Ganondorf smiled, " And the power suit of mine?" Eggman pulled up a camera of the suit being created, "We are nearly there. It will be done about the same time as the army is ready." Ganondorf raised an eyebrow in curiosity, " And that will be?" Eggman turned to Ganondorf, " the day after tomorrow." Ganondorf's expression changed to disappointment, "That's not good enough. The semis and the finals are tomorrow. I need my army and my suit." Eggman raised in hands defensively, " There's nothing I can do. The production line is running at peak speed. I need all the time I can get." Ganondorf growled at the answer, pounded his fist, and screamed in anger, " This plan must go off without a hitch. If we fail, then I will never be able to accomplish my goals. You will get your time. I will send Bowser to sabotage the power so that it gives you the time you need. You have your time, doctor. Do NOT fail me. You wouldn't like the outcome." Eggman nodded, " You have my word. I will finish them on time. You will see your goal realized. I must go. I have a plan to prepare." At that, Eggman exited to the production area. After he exited, Ganondorf sighed and shook his head, "Good help is so hard to find, but not much longer. Soon, I will have control of everything, and no one will know what do." He couldn't help but laugh evilly. All the while in a vent feeding air into the main room, Shadow was listening in on the plans. " I have to find Sonic. He has to know."
Meanwhile…
Sonic had gone to his room to think to himself. He was not excited about his next opponent. Why did it have to be her? Why must I go through her? Frustrated, Sonic paced in his room worried about the tomorrow. Focus, Sonic. I have to stop Ganondorf. If I don't, there is no hope for anyone. He shook his head. He knew that the only way to his goal would have to be to fight Lucina.
Just then, Tails and Knuckles entered the room. Sonic had his back to them looking out the window. "What's wrong, Sonic? I've never seen you this lost in thought," Tails asked. "Yeah, I've never seen you ponder things this long. In fact, I've never seen you slow down at all," Knuckles jested. Unfortunately, his pun fell on deaf ears. Sonic turned and shook his head. "I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. In order to get to Ganondorf, I have to fight the woman I fell for a while back. This is not looking good." He huffed at the thought, "Why does love hurt so much when you have to do the right thing. I guess…my heart can never have this satisfaction…" He couldn't finish his thought. He started to yearn for something. What it was, he didn't know. Sonic's friends couldn't say a thing, but they could be friends. They each put a hand on his shoulders. Sonic looked at each side and smiled, "Thank you. Both of you. I know you will both be there helping me, but now is not the time to be sad. We have to keep a watchful eye on Ganondork and his goons."
"Which is where I come in…" rang a voice. In came Shadow, "Sorry to interrupt. Didn't know you were having a moment, but I have some news." Sonic and friends turned and face Shadow, " No worries. What's going on," he asked. "Right, Ganondorf and Eggman are almost ready. I couldn't hear what the main plan was entirely, but from what I gather, they are going to make a move soon, and I mean VERY soon, " He explained. Sonic nodded, " Ok, then we will approach this carfully. Shadow, you keep tabs on Ganondork and company. Tails, Knuckles, you two watch Mac and Zelda. I'm going to find Lucina and try to get her on our side." Shadow was interested, "And if she doesn't believe you." "Then our problems just got a whole lot tougher. We have to stop them. Play time is over. It's time to raise the bar. Let's move out." Everyone started to leave, except Shadow and Sonic.
"What's up, Shadow," inquired Sonic. " I couldn't help but see that you are having a hard time having to deal with fighting this girl. Does she really mean that much to you," He asked. "Yes. Yes she does. More than anything in the world," he answered. " Are you willing to die for her? Defend her? Answer to her every waking need…" he pondered. Sonic nodded to ever answer. Shadow then approached Sonic as they now stood face to face. "Sonic, I understand this girl is different and means the world to you, but you are going to lose and doom us all. There's no way you can help the world. Ganondorf and his men are going to defeat you. They are going to accomplish their plans. You are going to run, but you aren't going to make it in time. Once again, the great Sonic the Hedgehog listens to his heart and all life is over. Some hero you are. That girl you care about is going to be lost and there's nothing you can do to stop it."
"STOP IT," Sonic shouted, " I'm not going to let the world be destroyed. That girl means a lot, but I won't let her die. You can count on me to get the job done. Nobody has any right to tell me differently, not even you. I'm going to stop Ganondorf and his gang. I'm going to save everyone."
"Good to hear it," Shadow said as he smiled. "What do you mean," Sonic said cluelessly. "I had to make sure that your head was in the right place. Now, I know you're ready. You've defeated your greatest enemy, yourself. You're ready," Shadow approved. Sonic couldn't help but smile. Shadow held out his hand. Sonic high fived him. They each nodded and exited.
Later…
Little Mac was in the mansion triage recovering. He was exhausted from the fight he put up earlier that day. All he could feel at the moment was pain and defeat. Well, I gave it all I could. Ain't nothing left but the crying. He started to close his eyes in acceptance of his loss. At that moment, he heard movement. He looked over to see Zelda, who was in pain from her fight with Lucina. She had her eyes closed and was covered in bandages. She seemed to just want to rest, but then Mac could tell that she sensed his gaze upon her. She opened her eyes and looked over at him. He held up a hand and waved, "Did you get the number of that truck that hit us," he joked. Zelda couldn't help but roll her eyes at his humor. Mac just shrugged and continued, " How are you doing over there." "What do you think," she said sarcastically. Mac shoo his head, rolled his eyes, and spoke, "Well, if it's any consolation, you put up a great fight. I know it was hard, but you did what you could," he commented. Zelda smirked at the compliment, "Thank you. Same to you. I hope you can relax in the fact that you are a great fighter." Mac smiled, knowing that she was right," Well, where do we go from here," he wondered. Zelda answered, " I don't know about you, but I'm going to relax, recover, and watch the rest of the tournament." Mac snickered, shook his head, and looked away, " Yeah, that's simple enough. I get it, but can I ask you something…", he paused, "as good of a job you did in that fight, it looked like it hurt more personally, than it did physically. So…". "What's your point," Zelda interrupted. "I'm just saying. Are you going to be okay. I just know it going to take a while for a girl like you to heal up," Mac observed. Zelda's jaw dropped before she spoke, " A girl like me. You mean because I'm a princess. Wow, such hubris. You know, I respected you for your earlier compliment, but, now, I can't stand you. I hope you come down off your throne. I'm doing just fine, thank you. Now please let me be. If you have anything else to say, then just don't say it." She turned away from Mac and started to rest. Mac's jaw dropped to the floor, figuratively, and there was nothing he could do. As he was picking his mouth up off the floor, a certain Koopa king entered the room. He turned to see Mac and then turned to Zelda. Zelda turned to see Bowser standing in front of her, "Hey, how are you," she asked. "I'm great. I saw your match with Lucina. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you're doing better," he consoled. "I'll be fine, thank you for your concern, unlike SOME people," she remarked towards Mac, " What are you up to." Bowser just smiled, "nothing much. Preparing for tomorrow. Watching Ganondorf's back. Making sure you're fine. The usual." Zelda chuckled at his pun, "Well, your presence is reassuring. I thank you. How is Ganondorf doing," she inquired. " He is focused on winning this tournament. I have a feeling he's going to be the champ," he predicted. "Well, he would be a better champ than Sonic. I hope that hedgehog gets what is coming to him," she wished. Bowser just laughed, "You and me both. I hope we see him put in his place. What about your friend, Lucina, how do you feel about her?" "She still disappointed me from yesterday, but there's nothing I can do about that. I can only hope for the future. Hopefully, we'll stay friends, but I can't say right now. Right now, all I want to do is rest. So, I'm going to go back to doing just that. Thank you again for coming by," Zelda concluded. "You're welcome. Hope your recovery is speedy. Get some sleep," Bowser hoped. Bowser got up from being at her bedside and started to leave. As Bowser was leaving, he turned and smiled connivingly at Mac. Mac wanted to react to his actions, but knew it was for the better that he didn't act on his feelings. He did think that Bowser had a plan. I will keep an eye on you. He watched as Bowser left and drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile…
Lucina was out on the balcony enjoying the stars. She had no idea that Sonic was just a few feet away just enjoying the moment. "Nice night, huh," he said making Lucina jump a little. She turned to face him and responded, " Yes. It sure is. Nice time to just take in the moment and try to escape reality for a moment before being interrupted," she said sharply. Sonic could feel the gall in that comment, "What are you doing here. Here to kick me more. Make me feel even lower. Go ahead, now is your time," she offered. Sonic just crossed his arms, breathed, and started, "No, I'm here as a friend. Gloating isn't really my schtick," he waited for a laugh which he didn't get any but silence, "What is my thing is trying to come to an answer," he paused again to allow Lucina to reply. She turned and looked , but returned to looking at the sky as a way to let him continue. "Listen, I understand that tomorrow is going to be hard for both of us. No lying. Trust me, I take no comfort in this fight. I do want you to know I will be fighting my hardest tomorrow." Lucina turned, her expression changing to a look of frustration, "Sonic, I understand that you are going to fight, but I'm not interested in you fighting. I just want to know why you are here. There's something else, isn't there," she asked. "You know me well," he smiled, "I'm here because the man in your life is up to something. I know it. I have good reason to believe it," he stated. She just scoffed and shook her head, "It's doesn't surprise me that you don't like Ganondorf. What does surprise me is that you think I'm going to lose focus because you think he's plotting something. You haven't changed. I don't believe you. I'm just…in shock by your intentions. You honestly believe you can get under my skin. How dare you. How do you sleep at night? Well, I know I'm going to beat you tomorrow to show you I don't need you. You have not heart, and I'm going to expose you for the fraud you are." Sonic just stepped back in shock while absorbing what she said. He was about to speak immediately, but he knew not to react emotionally. He just took a deep breath and addressed the argument, " Lucina, I understand that you think I'm trying to get in your head, but hear me out. I'm trying to help. I know what I have to do in order to stop Ganondorf, and I was just coming here to see if you would listen. Now, I know there's no way in convincing you. So, I will have to show you by beating you tomorrow. Lucina, I was going to wait, but I want you to know. I…I care a LOT about you. Words can't express my feelings, but I want you to know that I'm going to fight tomorrow to save everyone, and I'm going to fight you to save you. You don't see it, but I'm going to expose it…." Sonic stated.
"Expose what," asked a voice. Sonic turned to see Ganondorf standing there listening. "Why hello there, we were just talking, but since you're here, I think I will leave. You both have a good night," Sonic withdrew. Before he left, he turned to Lucina, " Please, Lucina, think about what I've told you." Sonic left, but not without exchanging glances with Ganondorf. Ganondorf watched him exit, and then turned towards Lucina. He walked up and stood next to her, "What was with him," he inquired. She shrugged, "Just being a liar. Thinks he can get in my head, but I'm wiser." Ganondorf snickered, "Well, I will agree to that. You are a smart girl," he wrapped his arms around her, "Are you ready for tomorrow. I know it's going to be hard. Maybe you need me by your side, " he suggested. She smiled at the thought, " it's a nice offer, but I have to do this myself. I need to prove to him that I can be strong without you there. If I want help, I will ask for it." Ganondorf shook his head, "Okay, but I'm here for you. Now if you will excuse me, I have to be somewhere. I will allow you to continue to stargaze," he said. She giggled, "Well, thank you. I am a deep stargazer. Have a good night." She pulled him in for a kiss. At that, Ganondorf left her there.
As he turned and left, Ganondorf signaled to Bowser to execute their plan to give Eggman more time. All of a sudden, all over the grounds and the mansion the lights went crazy. Everyone was worried about their safety. The lights continued to flicker until just stayed dark. Master Hand came out and went to the power station. Everyone proceeded to the Main Hall. Master Hand appeared back in the main hall after several minutes, "Attention everyone . It has come to my attention that there is a power outage. After assessing the damage, I apologize to say that the tournament will have to be postponed until the day after tomorrow. We should have the power back up by tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience," he announced.
Everyone's reaction was a look of dread. No one knew how the power went off except a certain wizard. All he could do is just smile in happiness knowing that they accomplished their task.
For Sonic, all he could do was look in alarm. He first looked to find his friends from his world. He found Shadow, Knuckles, and tails. He then surveyed to the crowd for his other friends. He looked to see Mac, Zelda, and Lucina. He last gazed upon Ganondorf and his cronies. Each one of them had a smile on their face. Sonic gathered up Shadow, Knuckles and tails, " Guys, this is bad. I think this is Ganondorf's plan. He is getting ready to show everyone. We need to be ready for anything now. If we aren't, we're dead. Ganondorf must pay!"
