Chapter: 3 A Knife Fight

Hi guys! Thanks for your reviews and messages!

"Why is it always a knife fight every single time you open your mouth? You know, outside you're amazing. But inside, you're ugly."

Captain Boomerang, Suicide Squad (2016).

Harley finally stopped sobbing after 30 minutes.

"I'm so sorry, Miss." Jester had her arm around her shoulders. "You'll be ok, I promise."

"I don't understand." She muttered. "I just don't understand."

Jester had led her outside very gently after Mr. J had dismissed her. She had managed to take Harley's shoes on the way out.

"Listen." The petite woman pressed keys into her hand. The cold metal felt unreal in Harley's hand. "Go to my house, stay there, sleep. And then we'll talk in the morning." Jester turned to the large mansion that had been Harley Quinn's home just an hour ago. "I'll find out what happened, I'll talk to him."

She didn't want to leave. She wanted him to come outside and say it had all been a joke. A test of some sort. She wanted to go back to last night when her life had been perfect.

"I can't be pregnant." She whispered..

Fine, maybe she took a test and forgot it. But leaving it out in plain sight for him to find? She'd never do that! She knew better!

And what was that about having a vasectomy? How had he never told her that before?

Jester looked uncomfortable and Harley couldn't blame her.

"Go to the club." She told her, handing her back the keys. "I'll come there after I take a pregnancy test. And get me a phone!"

Jester was taken aback, but snapped out of it quickly. "Sure, Miss."

Harley sure as hell did not need pity from the other woman. She was Harley freakin' Quinn, Queen of Gotham City.

"And Jester?"

The petite woman with the short hair turned around to her. "Yeah, Miss?"

"Thank you." Harley said and meant it. "You saved me."

She didn't need pity but she gave appreciation where appreciation was due.

"Anytime, Miss." Jester smiled and hurried off into the night, leaving Harley alone with the mess that was her mind.

After staring at the mansion longingly one last time she made her way into town, to get the supplies she needed. She pulled her hood of her jumper up, covering her face as she ducked into the first gas station she saw. The girl at the check-out counter was studying her nails in a bored fashion and she thought maybe she'd be in luck for once in her life.

She took the first test she could find, pushed it underneath her jumper and then headed straight outside.

Nothing happened.

She wasn't called back, no alarm that went off. She just walked back outside. Mr. J would be proud, she thought with a smile and then wanted to cry again as she remembered the things he had said to her. And he had hit her. In the face.

She was pushed from behind, right into a dark alleyway. A knife pressing against her lower back.

"Ah!"

"Shut up, bitch!" A rough voice snapped. It sounded strange, disfigured. "Show us what you got!"

"Let go of me!" She pushed and struggled the way she had at Belle Rev prison and this guy actually let her go.

"Ow! Jodie she punched me!"

In the darkness Harley frowned, this voice wasn't rough any more. It was a young voice. Almost childlike.

"Suck it up, Aiden." The voice that answered was older and female.

"Who are ya people?!" Harley's own voice was high-pitched and hysterical. She hated that.

"That's not the question!" The childlike voice retorted. "The question is whether you want to live or not, now what did you steal?!"

"Easy boy." The older voice said. "No need for empty threats just to scare her. We're already overpowering her."

"No you're not!" Harley snapped, throwing her hood back. "And what is this? Some kind of Oliver Twist remake?! What are you kids doin'?!"

A sudden light in the darkness blinded her momentarily. But then Harley stood face-to-face with a blonde woman, she was smaller than Harley and probably weighed twice as much. She was glaring at her, a torch in her hand.

Next to her there really was a boy. He had a dirty and freckled face and Harley could see he was bleeding where she'd punched his nose. He had a defiant look in his eyes as he glared at her. His hair was blonde and his eyes blue. She felt bad for hitting him.

"Holy crap." The woman whispered, shock was written all over her face. "You're Harley Quinn."

"I'm sorry!" The boy squealed his face becoming a mask of fear instantly. "Please don't tell Mr. Joker we tried to rob you! I'll do anything you say."

"Dammit Aiden, shut up." The woman muttered and hit the boy on the back of the head gently, in the way an older sister would. "Focus."

"Sorry, Jodie."

"Now." Jodie turned to her. "What are you doing here? You're clearly in our turf. The girl in the station is one of us."

"One of what?!" Harley was loosing the last shred of patience. "Who the fuck are you people?"

"Hey, woah." Jodie said sounding sincere. "There's a kid here!"

"I'm twelve!" The boy, Aiden apparently, snapped. "I've heard fuck before."

Harley had reached a level of zero tolerance and yelled:"Who are you?!"

"We're the Lost Boys." Aiden said. "Or lost children, if you ask one of the girls." He rolled his eyes. "I'm Aiden and this is Jodie."

"Lost boys?" She repeated. This was a joke by Mistah J she was sure of it. This couldn't be real.

"Yeah!" Aiden said. "And today is my first night out and..." He looked up at Jodie. "Do you think I'll slide up the ladder, if I'm the one to bring Harley Quinn in?!"

"You might be the one to get kicked out if you bring the wrath of the Joker on us!" Jodie snapped.

"Eh...what ladder?"

"Forget about it." Jodie mumbled after glaring at the kid who had been close to breaking out in a larger story.

"Should we take her back to Neverland?"

Harley groaned. "You're kidding, right?"

The blond boy didn't look like he was kidding and seemed confused that she would think that.

"No." Jodie said answering both of their questions, he wouldn't take her there and he wasn't kidding. "No, we don't want the King and Queen messing with our business, Aiden. Your majesty, you're free to go." She snarled and bowed sarcastically.

"You're rude." Harley muttered and then turned to the boy. "I'm sorry about your nose."

"Well, we're sorry about your psyche." Jodie muttered.

Harley rolled her eyes and turned around, leaving the two in the alley. Neverland! And people called her and Mistah J crazy!

Even thinking his name made her heart ache. She pulled the pregnancy test out from under her hoodie and secured it safely within it's pocket. She'd walk into the first club she could find, take the test and take the negative test back to Mr. J. It was that simple. And she'd also get a drink while she was there.

"Ah! HELP!"

She jumped at the loud cry interrupting the night. It came from the alley she had just left behind her. Well, she smiled to herself. That's what disrespect will get ya.

"Aiden! No!" Jodie sounded panicked.

Then Harley heard a cry tear through the night. A child screaming in pain.

As someone who had taken part in many shootings and robberies and just downright fun nights in town she knew what pain sounded like. She even enjoyed hearing it at times. But this was something else.

She sprinted back into the alley. There was hardly any light. Jodie's torch was on the floor, next to the young woman. There was a man with a knife and the knife was bloody and Aiden was on the ground crying.

Harley practically flew into action, knocking the guy down and hitting him in the face until he was unconscious. She took his knife and hurried to the child.

"Hey." She said in the softest voice she had. "You're going to be ok."

Aiden was crying and suddenly looked much more vulnerable than he had before. He was bleeding from his arm. He'd blocked the knife. If he hadn't this would have been much more serious.

"Come on." She held out her hands and pulled the boy to his feet. "There you go."

"Did you kill him?" Jodie asked behind her. To Harley she sounded judgmental, but maybe that was because she was used to people being judgmental towards her.

"I don't know. Maybe." Harley pocketed the knife and just as Jodie picked up the flashlight, the pregnancy test fell onto the ground with a clattering sound.

Jodie's eyes went wide as she and Harley stared at each other. Aiden was sniffling beside her, oblivious to the test and what it meant.

"Well..." Harley finally said tucking her hair back. "This is awkward."

"She should come back to Neverland with us." Aiden declared as Jodie stared at the test in a speechless shocked manner. "She saved us. Peter and Wendy will want to meet her."

The two women glared at each other. Jodie obviously wasn't keen on the idea and Harley was sure these kids were tripping.

Loud voices made all of them flinch. There were more men coming and a groan from the ground told Harley this one wasn't dead.

And judging by the voices they were seriously outnumbered.

"We have to leave." Jodie said, obviously realizing this too. "Follow us."

Harley bent down with a long sigh, picked up the pregnancy test and followed the two.

To Neverland.

To meet Peter and Wendy.

Sure, she thought, why the hell not at this point.

I hope you guys had a great week! Please tell me what you think!
