Epilogue:

"Man Over God"

Epiphany sat cross-legged. He had his right fist pressed into his cheek resting on the arm on his golden throne. The human world had so many wonderful technologies and he adapted some of for his own use including the ability to swipe visual screens with the whisk of a hand which he did so while looking at the Human World.

He wondered if he had done the correct thing in abandoning Light Yagami to the machinations of the Evangelist? But his reasoning wasn't a selfish one, it was so his cosmic powers didn't fall into the hands of a megalomaniac.

The Book of the Third Eye was a book of such great power it could be used to manipulate a person like a marionette. If the Evangelist got a hold of it, it could split the cosmic world into pieces. He couldn't let that happen.

The Evangelist had touched his mind and communicated with him and it had cost him physical pain. He never thought that was possible for a human being. Yet now, it had become apparent that the Evangelist was no normal human.

After the intrusion into his mind, he immediately put up barriers to prevent such a thing from happening again. He did not want any undesired consequences as a result of his galavanting with humans just to engage in a little fun.

But something did happen and something terrible!

He still didn't know the length and breadth are the Evangelist's powers, but one thing was for sure—he was a very dangerous man! And being a member of the League of Darkness it was equally important to stay away from the human realm now.

He scrolled through his visual screens in front of him and stopped at Light Yagami in his apartment. It was on his favourite's list, with a few others. He saw a young male with Light and Misa.

Riki, or Hiro Yamamoto, is his name.

Epiphany knew of him from watching events unfold during the 'Yukaza Incident'. Riki now lived with the pair. After everything the boy had gone through, he was glad the boy finally had some stability and comfort. Although, Riki was almost Light Yagami's age, just shy of it, he looked like a kid of thirteen or fourteen, and would that way for the rest of his natural life.

"We had some fun, didn't we, Light Yagami?" he said. "But like all good things, everything comes to an end. Maybe we meet again someday? In the meantime, I'll sit here and watch you. I hope you are as entertaining in the future as you were in the past?"

When Epiphany returned to the Astral Plane, he brought his cell phone with him that he used in being a detective as a souvenir. He flipped through it, reading human media coverage. The good thing about being a god was he didn't have to pay roaming fees.

He read about a heat wave in Africa, floods in Taiwan, an epidemic in North America, and about the polar ice caps melting in the Arctic, all on multiple media outlet feeds he subscribed to. Each phenomenon could be attributed to climate change and human meddling with the natural order of the planet.
He chuckled slightly as he read the term 'climate change'.

There was certainly a change in the climate of the planet with Kira.

Light Yagami was waging a war on 'criminal climate' using the Death Note and he would not be swayed in his agenda.

Just then, his body shivered with a piercing chill and a voice invaded his tranquility. It was cold and mesmerizing. And a dark imagine of a forbidding, ominous figure entered his consciousness.

"Hiding from me is futile, Astral God," came the voice of the Evangelist. "There will forever be a bond between us made through our previous connection. Think of it like a cosmic string: the length infinite. I won't be denied my heart desires. Your powers will be mine! The power of the Death Note is already mine, but I strive for something more: The power of a god! Gods look down upon man from the heavens, but without man to believe, you don't exist. Man always have the advantage over a god—all gods, everywhere. Even those that exist in the Astral Plain. Without our belief in you, you are powerless, and you'll simply fade away like the many pseudo deity's in the past!"

Epiphany tried to shake the image of the dark ominous figure from his mind, but to no avail.

"Your threats are meaningless," Epiphany said suspiciously. There was no way he can reach me here.

There was laughter. "You have felt my power first hand. And that was only a fraction. Your cosmic power WILL be mine!"

All of a sudden, a slit erupted in the Astral Plane caused by a rip in the space time continuum and a red cross began to sizzle into emergence building itself to its full extensions in free space. It burst forth and illuminated with a bright glow.

Epiphany put his hands up to mask his eyes from the blinding light.

Subsequently, a prick of white light poked through at a bottom corner of the cross like a finger penetrating through a piece of rice paper. It followed three straight lines from one point to the next, infinity encompasso, to form a perfect triangle surrounding the red cross.

It was symbol of the Evangelist, a personal cult that he ministered called "The Order of the Cross".

Suddenly, a black, swirling portal opened up next to Epiphany, catching him off guard.

Revolver reached out of it abyss with a devilish grin like a demon in the night and grabbed Epiphany's right arm.

The Shinigami still looked like Light Yagami, but with an eye wound Morph had caused him just after Yagami was rescued. Morph had done so in retribution for Revolver conducting himself uncouthly towards Light Yagami's peers, Morph told him. Epiphany knew Morph considered Light Yagami to be his and he had plans for Light Yagami in the future.

To what end, not even Morph revealed that.

Epiphany struggled against the Shinigami, but Revolver was too strong and adamant.

Revolver pulled Epiphany inside.

And the portal shut behind them.

END…
