Epilogue: The King and Queen of Gotham City
"They became the king and queen of Gotham city. And god help anyone who disrespected the queen."
Amanda Waller Suicide Squad, Extended Cut (2016).
The Lost Boys cheered loudly as Harley and Mistah J kissed.
She could hear Jodie's voice right out of the crowd and smiled against his mouth.
When he pulled away he whispered:
"When can I finally ravage you, Harley?"
She laughed, swatting his chest.
"Stop it, Puddin'. There are kids around."
"Yeah, that's not gonna change is it?"
Neverland was full of fairy lights and flowers.
Porter had officiated their wedding and all the guests were dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes.
There were all sorts of little monsters running around, the older ones had more classy costumes, one or two of them even came as faeries.
Harley herself was dressed as a fairy too. H
er dress was white and had a stitching with glittering blue leafs, the wings she wore were blue as well.
Mistah J was wearing a suit and his tie was matching blue.
Music erupted in the large factory and everyone cheered and immediately started dancing. They had stood for most of the ceremony, only a few had sat on the floor.
Harley and Mistah J were sitting on a stage facing them.
He had signed the factory over to Jodie this morning and Harley had presented her with the crown he'd originally had made specifically for the Clown girl.
It was too much glitter for Jodie and Mistah J was annoyed at the cost, but it made his wife happy, so he wouldn't complain.
Not today.
"Look! The cupcakes have glitter on them!" Gracie came up on the stage with one cupcake in her hand that she showed the bride and groom proudly.
She was holding Jodie's hand who sat down beside Harley.
"Remember, you can always come back to Neverland, if you get into a fight, because he believes lies about you or he kicks you out..."
"Or he murders you're annoying best friend!" Mistah J threw in and Jodie snapped:
"You always take it one step too far, Mistah J!"
"Well you always start it!"
Gracie set her cupcake down and covered her ears. Her eyes wide in fright. "They're fighting!"
"No Honey, it's ok." Harley put her hands over the little girl's and pushed them away. "This is what people in families do, they banter and make up." She glared at her husband. "Although to be fair they could just not banter today of all days."
The Joker grinned and leaned towards the blonde girl, winking at her he asked: "Do you like your new wings?"
She nodded vigorously making the new white fairy wings shake.
The dress she was wearing was new as well.
Dressed in white with lots of glitter she looked like the angel Harley had always seen in her.
She nibbled at the cupcake then handed it Harley with the words: "Can I go and dance?!"
"Of course you can baby." Squealing she ran off and Harley watched her go with a smile.
"She'll ruin her dress." Jodie realized.
"She has an entire closet filled with them." Harley explained. "Someone went a bit over baord."
"Hey." Mistah J muttered. "I had to physically stop you from buying her a pony."
"It was cute!"
Jodie laughed and scanned the crowd.
Harley knew what she would ask, before she said it.
"Is Johnny here?"
"He's helping Porter in the kitchen." Harley explained with a smile as the Joker pulled a face.
She thought it was cute the two liked each other.
He was annoyed by it.
Jodie excused herself and he leaned over to her.
"We're finally alone, Harls."
"Harley, Mistah J?!" Gracie was at their table again and she giggled as he groaned dramatically.
"What's up, Gracie?"
"Can I call you Mummy and Daddy?! Because I live with you now?"
The couple looked at each other and then at the little girl.
"Yes!" Harley squealed and he nodded enthusiastically.
"Absolutely!"
She beamed at them and then hurried back into the crowd of Lost Boys.
"Were we too eager?" He muttered and she giggled.
"Well she's stuck with us now."
"Yeah, I suppose so." He mused, pressing his face into her hair and breathing in deeply.
She sighed In comfort.
"No more games?"
He asked and she turned to look at him.
"No more games." She agreed and looked at him expectantly.
"You make my life complete."
"Naaaw, Puddin'!" She took hold of his face with both hands, now that her right hand was healed again and kissed him so deeply some of the crowd cheered.
"Hey guys?" It was Valerie and she was in uniform. "Congratulations."
"Thanks Valerie!" Harley beamed.
"I don't have much time." The police officer admitted. "I just wanted to give you your gift." She frowned. "I'm not sure if gift is the right term, but..." She handed Harley a brown file. "This is Gracie's file. We don't know much, after all Peter and Wendy found her on the streets when she was just three years old, but...whatever information we might have on her, you'll find it in here."
"Thank you." Harley whispered, clutching the file close.
"Oh and, I filed your report." She winked at them. "If anyone asks we now have proof that Mr. J was physically violent against you."
It was the best plan they'd come up with.
If it actually happened that they both had a run-in with the law she would play the victim card to an extreme, throwing him under the bus. That way she had hope of not being prosecuted.
They had to think of Gracie.
"Right, I need to get going. Congratulations again, you make a lovely couple!"
Once she left Mistah J reached over and took the file from Harley.
"I really don't know if I want to read it or not."
"I know." She sighed. "I feel the same."
Gracie was easily spotted on the dance floor, twirling around, a whirlwind of white fairy wings and glitter. Jodie spun her around, laughing.
"What do you think will happen?" Harley whispered, leaning in close to him. "Will she be like us?"
"Rotten and Damaged?" He chuckled, leaning his head against hers. "I hope not."
"She will be loved." Harley said. "Nothing else matters. She belongs to us and we will love her."
"She chose us." He muttered. "Out of everyone else she wanted us to be her parents."
"Daddy!" The sound of Gracie addressing him like this made his heart melt. "Aiden won't let me dance the way I want to!"
"Well let's go and shoot him in the face then."
Harley glared at him and he chuckled.
"Just kiddin', Mrs. Joker."
He pressed a kiss against her temple and let his daughter lead her to the dance-floor to where she'd been arguing with Aiden.
She watched him lift Gracie into his arms and twirl her around and around while she laughed in delight.
"I am so happy for you." Jodie had stolen herself away from the dance floor and sat beside her. "Even if I think he's a dick."
Harley laughed.
"I'm sad you're leaving Harley." Porter sat down beside her on the other side. "But you have a good thing here, I can see that."
She did.
She was so grateful for them all.
After all this ordeal, after all these years, she finally had all she'd ever wanted. A husband, a daughter, a family.
"Come on." She said, rising to her feet. "I want to dance."
She never wanted this evening to end. She was so happy she was sure her feet would carry her of the ground and she would fly away.
Mistah J spun her around and pulled her in close. "I love you, Harley Quinn."
"I love you too Puddin'." She whispered. "You're my Neverland."
"Forever." He agreed and kissed her deeply while the Lost Boys around them cheered.
Hi everyone! Thanks for sticking with this story until the very end. For now this will be my last Harley / Joker Fanfiction. I poured my heart and soul into this story and I think it's time to move on to something else. My writing has changed and my own feelings and thoughts about writing have too. I will always be grateful towards Harley and Mr. J for that. Writing this story was a huge thing for me in a very difficult time. So feel free to tell me what you think and let me know how you liked it. My greatest thanks will as always go out to my favourite friend J (no pun intended :D) who stuck by me in my darkest moments and also dragged me into Suicide Squad five years ago :D
So thanks J! :-*
