Chapter 13: Sports Festival Part 2 (First chapter with Grammarly. Tell me what you feel is better.)

Shortly after the assassin took his own life, the police finished questioning me. Although this case was deemed extremely important there was no reason for me to stay, considering that this appeared to have been a random attack on a UA student. The officers wished me luck and had me go on my way.

The trip was slow, however. My thoughts were on the assassin and how it was the second one he had encountered one and apparently, they were related.

And this didn't seem personal. So someone was pulling strings.

The League of Villains? They played a part but if what Bladedge said was true then there is another in the mix that was separate from the villains entirely. And whoever it was, they were searching for powerful fighters.

I looked at UA in the distance. The roar of the crowd could be heard from down here.

Whatever was coming, it was coming to challenge all of us. Unfortunately, the best way to learn more was to capture one of these assassins alive. And with the only two that were ever encountered killing themselves, that meant that it wouldn't be easy.

My watch made a pinging sound. I bring my hand in front of me and press the notification button. A text had been sent by Luna.

Luna: Tokoyami got second place in round one. Also, lots of people here are nice.

A smile came to my face. He better hope so. Many people in that stadium are pro heroes. And some of them are the best of the best. The only ones not present are either A. heroes who are more concerned about safety elsewhere. Or B, heroes who simply don't care about watching the sports festival.

It took a moment but it eventually hit me that Tokoyami came in second. Meaning he was missing his good friend's battle. And with that, he took off into a sprint.

Tokoyami was resting in the tunnel to the resting rooms. It held the least amount of light in the building and with the private rooms being saved for later on he couldn't find a room by himself to turn off the lights in. Next to him, Midoriya sat on the ground, having volunteered to wake him if he fell asleep. In return, he would work with Midoriya in whatever the next event was.

While his eyes were shut he flexed different parts of his body to see what was damaged. Due to his reckless moves in round one, he had received much bruising and because of that, his power was reduced. Recovery Girl was only fixing those who needed it and even so with Dark Shadow still charging up, he couldn't risk the stamina drain.

Fighting without his quirk in the next event scared him. He never viewed himself as a strong person even with Leo's training. For him to pass the next event, Tokoyami would have to play smart.

The good news was that the two heavy hitters were greatly weakened for this next round too.

When Todoroki was using his ice, he refused to use his fire for personal reasons. Because of this, his body nearly frosted all over. Most of it had melted in the heat but his movements would still be slow in the next round.

Bakugou had pushed his explosions too far in an attempt to get ahead of Midoriya and him. His arms were bruised significantly from the recoil of his quirk and Recovery Girl had to heal him. The amount of energy it took meant he wouldn't be at full power until the third event.

The only one in the top five who was unscathed was Midoriya and his power would make sure that wouldn't last long.

A hand was placed on Tokoyami's shoulder. He opened his eyes to see Midoriya trying to wake him up. "The next event is about to start. We should get into the arena." When he spoke this, he slowly got up to his feet and began making his way to the exit.

When they reached the end of the tunnel, they could see that all the others had already gathered in front of Midnight's podium. Both of them made their way alongside them and waited watched the pro announce the next event.

Midnight picked up the microphone. "With the completion of round one many contestants have been eliminated. However, we will have recreational games for you later on. But for those who have made it into round two, let us determine your next challenge! Hit it!"

We all looked at the jumbotron as it began to spin, eventually landing on the title of the next event.

"The next event will be the Cavalry Battle!"

As Midnight began to explain the rules, Tokoyami felt someone's gaze on the back of his head. He turned to see Todoroki giving him a death stare. If he had to guess, the dual quirk user was probably pissed because the bird-headed teen had gotten ahead of him. After all, he was not the student that he had declared war on.

"One more thing," Midnight continued. "The higher you placed in the first round the more points you are worth. And if you were in first place then your worth is ten million points!"

Tokoyami could practically feel Midoriya's body temperature drop below freezing. All other students turned to the kid and it was obvious that everybody was going to go after his team.

Except that may be a good thing. It made it easier to tell who would be the primary target. And with Tokoyami's promise he made to Midoriya, that he would work with him this round, he knew that this was a challenge that would be of great difficulty. With him handicapping himself on not using his quirk and their team is the primary focus.

But even with all of that, he could feel his heart racing. This was his chance to prove to his class, and more importantly himself, that he could keep up with them. And Tokoyami was happy to say that excitement ran through his body.

The second Midnight started the timer to begin the search for teams, Tokoyami had moved over to Midorya and placed a hand on the kid's shoulder. He looked at me and a silent agreement was passed between the two.

It was time to show the world what Fumikage Tokoyami could do without his quirk.

"Are you kidding me!?"

In front of me stood a ridiculous crowd in front of UA. With a crowd this big, it would take about thirty minutes to get through even with the pass that was given to me because I was a student.

I sent a text to Luna to tell her it could take a little bit. At this pace, the second event would pass by before he could be there to watch. He just had to hope that Tokoyami could make it past this second round so he could watch his friend in action.

Until then he had to wait at the check-in station and watch the event on the outside jumbotron.

Tokoyami and Midoriya had received their two remaining teammates in the form of Uraraka and the support student Hatsume. Said student had attached boosters to her feet as well as Uraraka's. Midoriya would be our horse who held the ridiculous amount of points.

And finally, he would be the head of the group. Even without Dark Shadow, the strength he had received in the past two weeks would greatly aid in momentum in the front. Hatsume had given him a cloak to wear so that his quirk could strengthen during the fight. She said that it was because the bird-headed teen would be a great person to advertise with in the next round and he needed to be at his strongest to do so.

This made him pity her next opponent. After all, he knew this team would make it through this round.

"Tokoyami, are you sure that Dark Shadow can't be used for this match?" Midoriya asked. When he had told the rider of his predicament, the green-haired teen had understood his reasons yet that didn't mean it didn't sit well with him.

"Dark Shadow is still far too weak to do much. Even with this cloak, he won't be of much use until the next event. Do not worry, however. I have been spending much time trying to avoid a serious threat in my spars. And with Bakugou and Todoroki weakened it would reduce the pressure." His response seemed to slightly diminish Midoriya's worry yet it remained.

"Serious threat? Do you mean…"

"Yes, I am referring to Hop. That woman hits like a tank."

Midnight began the count down for the start of the cavalry battle. Tokoyami braced himself for what would come next. The four of them had formed a plan that would give them an advantage but it would need to be played out perfectly.

"Five"

The audience remained unmoving as they waited in anticipation. Luna's leg was tapping while the pro behind her paid extra attention.

"Four"

I stood halfway through a silent line as everyone's attention was to the jumbotron. He silently prayed that everything would go well with this fight.

"Three"

A young hero watched his television with his legs on his desk. An eye was kept on the kid named Fumikage Tokoyami.

"Two"

Shigaraki was watching his TV as the final seconds counted down. Besides him, several cloaked figures sat. All having the same goal as him. To see which of these students were the biggest threat.

"Two"

Unannounced to anyone, a figure hovered over the clouds as the being used their keen vision to look for any interesting fighters. Metal creaked around them as they stretched. This one wanted to personally watch this event.

"One"

Tokoyami felt Dark Shadow stress in him as the creature feared for its user. But it was too late now.

"Begin!"

All the participants busted forward. Most of them charged straight for the ten million points. Tokoyami dashed to the right in an attempt to get his group out of the blocked-off corner.

Suddenly, the ground turned soft and his feet sank into the earth. He caught a glimpse of a 1-B horse making its way to them.

Midoriya yelled out. "Let's give this a shot! Uraraka, Hatsume, heads down!" He pressed a button and the jetpack that the support hero gave him ignited. Tokoyami felt a hand on his arm as he suddenly became weightless. The thruster shot them into the air. Those on the ground next to the launch site started coughing as the smell of smoke hit them.

Tokoyami spotted Jiro below them. He called out to his teammates to warn them but her ear-jacks had shot towards them.

"Any ideas" yelled Uraraka. Dark Shadow wanted to shoot forward and slash away the Jack's but his strength was still sapped. However, that didn't mean he had no plan.

In a similar fashion that he saw Leo fight. Tokoyami twisted in mid-air and kicked the jacks away. Jiro gritted her teeth as they flew out of her reach.

The bird-headed teen gave a slight smile. He learned that when Hop had thrown him in the air dozens of times to make sure he could dodge in mid-air. Leo had shown him the trick eventually but it took him eating shit a dozen times.

An explosion was heard behind them as a familiar yell filled the air. "What do you think you are doing, Deku!?" Bakugou flew at us like a bullet. Midoriya yelped as the blond came close.

Tokoyami twisted underneath Midoriya and grazed the attacker's cheek with his foot. Bakugou gave him a look that could kill before he was blasted back by a large wind.

Midoriya had flicked a finger at the blonde when he had recuperated. He hissed from the pain but nothing appeared to be broken. Tape surrounded Bakugo's chest as Sero pulled him back towards their group.

"Well played Midoriya." Tokoyami's comment made the teen smile.

"I should be saying that to you. Those moves were awesome, Tokoyami."

They landed on the other end of the arena. With Uraraka holding so much weight she would need a break before they could fly again. Tokoyami noticed that they were being surrounded again.

"Can we use the boots to avoid them?" Yelled Midoriya. Uraraka grunted but she couldn't lift her foot. She looked down and spotted a purple orb underneath it.

"Hold it right there!" Mineta yelled. They turned to see him riding on top of Shoji whose arms covered his entire back. They charged at us. "Those ten million points are ours, thank you."

A tongue shot out of the cocoon on Shoji and Tsu revealed herself. "Sorry Tokoyami, ribbit, but we kinda need those."

"You won't get them without a fight. Now Midoriya!"

The student pressed the button and the jetpack tore us off the orbs, breaking the boots in the process.

We hovered in the air for a short time before being forced to land because the jetpack had overheated. Tokoyami started sprinting around the arena in an attempt to shake the other teams. He looked back to see that everyone was starting to get desperate and they had begun attacking each other to collect more points.

"If we keep this up then we can win this," Midoriya commented. Tokoyami had to agree with him. Even though they lost their momentum it was still looking like the hard part had passed.

Then everything went to shit.

Ice erupted in front of us and blocked our path. Tokoyami attempted to turn around but the same occurred behind them. They were boxed into the corner and the only way out was blocked by arguably one of the most powerful teams.

Todoroki exhaled frost particles from his spot on top of his group. The dual-quirked user had ice particles scattered across his body. The tole of the last match still weighing on him. Iida stood ahead of him, his engines revving. With him, as the front horse, there was no way they could outrun them. Tokoyami recalled how the class president refused to team up with them so he could take his path. A reasonable path, yet one that proved quite troublesome for them.

Yaororozu and Kaminari carried Todoroki from the back. A sheet had been placed between the electric boy and the other members. Probably because they wanted him to use his quirk to his fullest extent. Tokoyami only now realized that the whole team wore a weird set of goggles. He could only guess what they were used for yet it was a solid one considering what the vice-president held on a belt.

Flashbangs. They had prepared for him to use Dark Shadow.

He gritted his teeth. It would seem that Todoroki had specific people he wanted to take down. If he had to guess, it would be that when he placed ahead of him in the first round he became the second target. Midoriya being first of course.

"Those points belong to us. Hand them over." Todoroki's voice held venom that could kill an elephant. Yaororozu reached down and grabbed one of the flashbangs and handed it to the rider. "Tokoyami, you have surprised me. I was not expecting you of all people to get ahead of me in the first round. However, if you think that there is a chance that your strength could match my own then you are a fool."

Todoroki raised his right hand, which held the grenade. "Your weakness is easily exploitable. And I doubt Dark Shadow has much strength considering you haven't used him. And to keep it that way these will prevent you from fighting back."

"And Midoriya, I made a promise that you will be defeated by me. That is a promise I intend to keep." He then pulled the pin and chucked the flashbang at Tokoyami's feet.

The bird-headed teen responded in the best way possible. The cloak he wore was ripped off him as he threw it in front of his team. When the flash went off, their ears were the only thing that got hit.

Before he could do anything else. The group shot through the cloak and attempted to grab the ten million points. They brushed past their left and Kaminari reached out to shock him. But before that could happen, Tokoyami reached out and attempted to pull the sealed blanket between Kaminari and his team.

The blonde quickly realized what he was doing and repurposed his hand to keep the sheet from being swiped away. If the blanket was gone then he couldn't use his powers without hurting his teammates. When his electricity was down, Tokoyami used his quirk to hit Kaminari in the head.

Not Dark Shadow. Tokoyami used his other quirk. His bird head.

"Ow!" the blonde yelped when he pecked him on the forehead. The kid reached up and grabbed his head and gave Tokoyami a look that showed great shock. Then Todoroki's whole team was blasted back by a force.

Midoriya hissed again as his whole arm looked red. Once again, it was not broken but it still stung. Tokoyami could barely tell but it appeared that some flames were dying out on his left side.

"Guys, Tokoyami isn't using his quirk. I don't think those flash grenades will work on him." Kaminari called to his team. Todoroki looked pissed off. He was expecting Kaminari to weaken the head horse considerably yet Tokoyami somehow was performing way better than the first encounter he had in the mock battle trials. Not to mention Midoriya was successfully using a quirk that should break his bones yet didn't.

Then it all made sense. Of course, the pieces were all there. Midoriya's first ball throw. Tokoyami's advanced fighting style. They all bridged from one person.

"Leo. I should have known that quirkless bastard would get in my way."

Tokoyami heard this comment and it angered him greatly. "If you think your quirks excel you above him then you are sadly mistaken, Todoroki. Also, Leo is not here. I am. So focus on that then."

Iida called out to his team. "I have a plan. It will leave me useless to you all yet it might work out for us." The class president leaned forward. Before anyone could ask the engines on his calves ignited.

"Here is my pass."

"Ok, you can go in now."

Seriously. I wait in line for thirty minutes and that is all that needed to be done. Dang it.

My hand puts the ID back into my pocket as I towards the front of the stadium. The crowd could be heard roaring at something. If he had to guess, from the clashing of energy, it just has something to do with Tokoyami and Midoriya. The last he saw of them, they had just encountered Todoroki's group.

I noticed that Tokoyami had yet to use Dark Shadow, but the reason may have something to do with those bruises on his arms. Could he have hurt himself in the first round? If so then he is now facing the strongest quirk user in the class with limited power.

Energy levels spiked in the arena and he could tell that Midoriya had used his quirk. I remembered how he had to be taught how to control his power to a point. Not the best solution, but considering his quirk worked differently than ki it was the best one he could offer.

I was about to take the corner when a large gust of wind flew through the hallways. People around me tripped and fell. My hand reached out to steady a woman next to me. She looked around in a panic until she realized that no danger was present.

When the air came to a standstill everyone looked around in confusion. After making sure everyone was okay, I closed my eyes and scanned the arena. Unfortunately, with all the spectators, it was difficult to understand what was happening.

A notification sounded on my phone. I looked down to see that it was from Luna. After opening it and scanning the message my feet moved on their own.

Luna: GET TO THE MEDICAL! TOKOYAMI IS HURT!

Tokoyami was stunned.

One second, Todoroki's team was in front of them. The next, they are behind them with their ten million points. Iida's special move had moved them to speeds they couldn't even comprehend.

Except for Tokoyami, which is what he was stunned about.

He had just caught a glimpse of the moving group and, with reflexes, he didn't know he had, had snagged their points off their necks. Todoroki however, was left unfazed as he got ahold of his team's points. They stopped about twelve feet from us and rotated to look us down.

"Iida. How?"

"I can do it only once. And now my quirk is useless to you all. But it was worth the risk."

Yaororozu then called out to her teammates. "Tokoyami got the other points!" When she spoke this Todoroki reached towards his neck and realized that they were all gone. They may have the ten million but that team still had a chance to get into the finals.

He couldn't allow that.

Hatsume spoke for the first time in a while. "What is up with the air?" Sure enough, the entire atmosphere between the two glaciers was white with frost and fog. It had to be around 0°C. More frost escaped from Tokoyami's beak the more he breathed.

"Todoroki's body is weakened yet he is still using his ice to their full capabilities," Midoriya explained. "Because of that, his power is starting to spread uncontrollably." Sure enough, the dual-quirked user looked like he was going to freeze stiff soon enough. But it didn't look like he was satisfied just yet.

"Yaororozu, give me the flashes." The vice-president swung the strap holding the grenades off her shoulder and placed them in Todoroki's hand. "We are getting all the points from them. One way or another."

The group started charging towards us. Tokoyami could feel the pressure behind him from Midoriya's quirk being used. He must be planning to push them back with a palm swipe like he did the last time.

Then an explosion was heard above the two groups. They looked up to see Bakugou flying towards the two riders. The look he gave would give pro's nightmares. "Those points are mine, you idiots!"

Todoroki responded by raising his left hand. A blaze spread across his left side as Bakugou launched an explosion between the two groups to separate them. Midoriya swung his hand forward and as if time slowed down Tokoyami saw a hazard that nearly froze him in place.

The dual-quirked user had thrown flashbangs between the two groups to try to stall his team but now he realized what he had made them.

Fuel to the fire.

With the air lacking much oxygen because of the frost, Todoroki quickly igniting a large flame, Bakugou creating explosions, and Midoriya creating much friction with his attack. They were rapidly heating a cold area with little oxygen.

He could hear a siren going off to signify the end of the event but that didn't stop the forces from colliding and creating a blinding light between the seven.

"Dark Shadow!"

He had wanted to save his quirk for the next round but this was life or death for many involved. He had to stop it.

Dark Shadow appeared with more strength than he remembered it having as the quirk threw the other members away from the epicenter of the explosion. He willed his quirk to surround the orb of light regardless of what happened to either of them.

Then the force struck and Tokoyami was thrown into darkness.

The wind blew through the arena. Many pros had used their quirks to keep themselves rooted in place as the gust was strong enough to lift a few of them.

This was unfortunate for Luna because she was the lightest one their as well as not having a quirk to help her out. The woman behind her placed her hands on the green-haired girl's shoulders to prevent her from flying into the wall behind them. Said woman had closed her eyes to prevent any dust from getting in them.

The collision of different temperatures must have rapidly cooled the air, She thought. With the arena reaching below freezing and the combined attacks of those three students must have accumulated into ground zero for a shockwave.

It also didn't go unnoticed to her that the bird teen had used his quirk to clear the area of the blast. But if what she picked up with her advanced hearing was true then those flashbangs would have weakened that student's quirk. Meaning although he saved himself he still left the fact that it may have cost him.

Her concerns became reality as the wind died down. She opened her eyes to see that the boy had been shot across the arena and was impeded upside down into the side of the wall across from them. Midnight, who had just recovered from the shockwave, ran to him and checked his pulse. Then motioned for several robots to pick the boy out of the wall.

Luna was extremely worried. That blast had nearly blown her away and Tokoyami was at the center of it. She could see blood dripping off her friend from his chest. It reminded her of when Daemon shot Leo a couple of months ago. That moment still gave her nightmares.

Wait. Leo! Didn't he mention once that he could use pressure points to help others heal? Maybe he could help Tokoyami out.

Her hand practically flew over her watch. The woman behind her looked at her curiously. "Who are you texting to in such a hurry?"

"My brother may be quirkless but he is a miracle worker. His previous teacher taught him how to use pressure points in the human body to help accelerate one's healing. He could help Tokoyami in medical but he needs to know. Plus, I think it is in my best interest to inform him that his friend just got blasted away."

The blonde was a little confused by the statement but her attention was quickly directed towards the girl's shaking hand. Through her line of work, she witnessed many scared people. There tended to be two types. One who was scared of what was happening and one who was scared of something that had happened.

The girl in front of her appeared to truly believe her brother could help Tokoyami but because she was sending glances towards the crater in the wall that had blood stained on it and not her friend who was on the field was a clear indication to the hero that some memories must have resurfaced.

She would keep quiet for now but an eye would be kept on the green-haired kid from now on.

I rushed my way through the halls of the medical ward. Due to this being my first time in this stadium I had no idea where Tokoyami was being kept. Every hallway looks the same.

I halted and yelled out into the endless abyss. "If anyone could point me to the room that is holding Fumikage Tokoyami, I would greatly appreciate it!"

Suddenly the door next to me opened up and a furious Recovery Girl walked out. "Be quiet. If you looked at the sign you'd see that it is this very room that your friend is in."

Just as she said, the door plaque on the wall read 'Contestant Treatment Center'. I immediately felt like an idiot.

"Can I see him? My training allows me to use pressure points to accelerate a person's healing. We can use it to heal his wounds."

She shook her head. "Tokoyami is already healed. For whatever reason, the blast didn't have that large of an effect on him. Any bleeding was mainly from flying ice that scrapped him and the impact he had on the wall was not as severe as it looked. He is resting now and will unlikely participate in the next event."

When she said this, my hands clenched. So all of that effort was for nothing because he had to save the lives of others going overboard in a friendly competition. Damn it.

Then an idea came to my mind. "Well, maybe I can lend him some of my life energy? If his wounds are healing from your quirk then it should bring him back up to fighting condition. Would you allow that?"

She gave it some thought before stepping to the side and motioning for him to enter. Once I walked inside, the first thing that came to my attention was the bird-headed teen sleeping on a hospital bed.

Walking up to him, my hand extends and small particles of energy start flying out. They surround Tokoyami and he begins to glow. A curious Dark Shadow peaks his head out of his chest and catches sight of what is going on. His yellow eyes glimmered with an unspoken thanks.

The bird-headed teen's eyes suddenly shot open and he sat up straight like a bullet. Looking around the room, he saw his friend and the school nurse giving him surprised looks.

"What happened? What day is it? Is everyone okay?"

Recovery Girl and I looked at each other before the nurse responded. "You blocked an accidental explosion from going off and you were knocked out. It has been fifteen minutes since then. Your friend Leo managed to give you enough energy to help you fully recover faster than I expected. And finally, everyone else is fine. Just some slight scraps."

Tokoyami signed with relief and rested back on the bed. "I guess this means that my time in the tournament has come to a close."

The pro shook her head. "With you back up and in good condition then it is understandable if you wish to continue." She turned to me. "However, I ask for you to stay here to help me with the inevitable battle damage that will happen. You being able to give others energy could prove useful in that regard."

I nodded. "I'll text my sister and tell her we will meet after the games." He turned to Tokoyami. "Good to see you back up and kicking."

"I should be saying that to you. It sounds like you had quite the adventure on your way here."

A smirk crossed my lips. "Well, let's just say the questioning took hours longer than that fight."

Recovery Girl left to tell the officials that Tokoyami would be participating in the next event. Tokoyami and I started chatting about what had happened when I was gone.

Two events down and one event to go. Tokoyami was excited about what would happen next. And, believe it or not, I was too.

Wow, I had some major writer's block when writing this chapter. By far the most uninteresting chapter of the story so far and if you find it boring I understand. Luckily, the next ones will not be as so. Comment if you think I should continue to use Grammarly.
