Someone had grabbed her. Jean struggled, her red hair flying around wildly, but the force holding her didn't relent. Jean tried to get a glimpse of her captor, but all she could see was a large blob of darkness in the otherwise serene meadow she was standing in.

How had she gotten there? Jean couldn't remember. She couldn't remember anything, except that she was in danger.

Jean resumed her struggling, but her efforts were futile. The darkness tightened its hold on her and a chuckle echoed around the meadow, suffocating Jean. It was everywhere.

"Help!" She screamed, but the darkness only chuckled again in response, and everything went dark.

Suddenly, Jean found herself sitting on a rough wooden chair, trapped by cold chains. The metal was biting into her arms, and the more Jean fought her restraints, the more they tightened. Jean took in a deep, gasping breath and tried to access her telepathy. Nothing. She was trapped.

"Help!" She screamed again, but all she could see was the darkness surrounding her.

But then it was gone. Jean was suddenly in the bright, lush meadow, and the darkness was long gone. What was happening?

"Jean?" She looked up into the familiar pair of red sunglasses that she had come to love so much, a smile on her face.

"Yes?"

"Happy anniversary," Scott smiled, pulling out a bouquet of flowers. "I love you."

"You better," Jean chuckled, before stepping closer to him. Their lips were inches apart. "I love you too."

And then they were kissing, and Scott (who was an excellent kisser; Jean had learned early on in their relationship) had her wrapped up in his arms and it was all...perfect. But then he was ripped away from her.

"Scott!" She screamed as he was thrown across the field they were standing in. A sphere of the darkness began to descend from the sky and came to settle all around Scott, consuming him, and all the while she was rooted to her spot amongst the meadow's grasses.

"Scott!" Jean screamed again as she watched him struggle for air.

"Scott!" Her voice broke when she realized that he wasn't moving anymore. She reached out with her mind, but she couldn't feel his presence. She felt the force holding her in place loosen, and quickly, she was free. She ran towards Scott's motionless body as the darkness rose above them and split in two, floating away to opposite sides of the meadow.

"Scott! Oh please wake up. Please, please." She was crying now as she realized that he had no pulse. He was-he couldn't be-but he was. He was gone.

"Scott!" A dark chuckle echoed around her, and she realized that she and Scott were now surrounded by the darkness. It was everywhere, the sky, the ground, right next to them. It was getting closer.

"No! Stop!" The darkness was only inches away from consuming her.

"Help! Somebody help!" But there was nobody there.
