Chapter 16: Name to be proud of
It had been five days since the Sports Festival. The other two events passed by smoothly with no attacks and the weekend ended with no hiccups. I had promised the school that my path to UA will change frequently to avoid people from tracking me but as of this moment, it seemed that we were in the clear.
There was however one personal issue with a classmate of mine. Tokoyami had told me the news because information doesn't exactly travel to my neck of the woods that easily. Iida's brother, the pro hero known as Ingenium, had been attacked and seriously maimed by someone who was being called the hero killer.
The man had over forty attacks on heroes with many being killed. With Ingenium being among the first to be attacked in Hosu city it had become obvious that the villain had moved onto a different city.
When Universe 1 had heard about the attacks they offered that Dratten be sent to eliminate the threat but the Prime Minister declined, saying that if their heroes couldn't take care of it then the public would lose faith in them.
However, that didn't mean they couldn't do anything. And thanks to a few favors I called in, all that remained was to give the offer to Iida.
I had arrived at UA and spotted Iida silently looking at his desk. Other students appeared to try to talk to him about what happened but he just said that he was okay and continued to sulk.
Now wasn't the best of times to tell him so I'll wait until we can get some privacy.
Taking my spot at the back of the class, I began studying Art History once again. The topic was slowly starting to catch on for me but the subject still nearly caused me to jump out several windows.
After a few minutes, Mr. Aizawa entered the classroom. Immediately, the entire class stopped talking and returned to their seats. The teacher grunted before straightening a stack of papers. "It seems you all are excited today. Guess that means you are ready. First things first, you all did well in the Sports Festival so nobody is getting expelled. Everybody in here had made it past the first event and honestly, that was the main priority. Second, we have internships coming up."
'Internships?' the question appeared to be on everyone's mind, including mine. Mr. Aizawa continued.
"UA internships are a one-week trip for each student to different hero agencies. There you will be taught about important parts of hero work. This can range from paperwork to how to handle certain villains. The quirk laws remain in effect so using your quirk on these internships without permission from your supervising hero will result in consequences."
"The agency you go to can be chosen by you from requests of heroes sent to try to get you to work under them for the week. Even if you don't get any some agencies take on students who have nowhere to go. But for those who have gotten requests…"
The teacher pressed a button and a projection was cast on the wall. It showed the names of different students as well as a number next to them. "Here are the number of requests each student earned."
The surprising part of the list was that even though Bakugou came in first place he did not get the most requests. That honor went to Tokoyami, with Todoroki coming close behind. These three got the majority of the votes and the farther down the list you go the fewer requests people got.
And it appeared both Midoriya and I didn't get a single request.
Mineta shook Midoriya's shoulder. "You didn't get one vote, Midoriya." Said freckled teen had wide eyes and looked scared. Why, I had no idea.
Sato decided to comment. "It must have been because of how his bones broke when he used his power. That must have scared anyone from wanting to take him. But why did Leo not get any votes?"
Kirishima growled. "It's because of the rumors going around about him not actually doing anything. The heroes must have believed them."
Mr. Aizawa continued. "Don't forget, you will all be attending an internship. But first, you need to make a decision that will affect your entire career. You must...pick a hero name."
The excitement in the room went up to level ten. Everyone managed to stay quiet but many fidgeted in their seats. Hero names must have been exciting for them. All their idols had one and they now get to choose their own.
"Since I don't excel in the creativity department another teacher will be helping with your names." The classroom door opened up and Mineta and Kaminari started freaking out as Midnight walked in.
"Well, names are one the most important things about being a hero. They tell the public who you are and who to trust. Every name has meaning as it should. So what do you say we get started?"
The teachers passed out hand-held chalkboards to everyone. We were told to take time on our names so many started to ponder what it would be. I looked at the board in my hands and tried to think about what type of hero I wanted to be. That was the best way to get a name I could work with.
It didn't take long for Ashido to go up and announce her suggestion for her name. "How about, Alien Queen?"
It seemed like a good idea to me but Midnight thought otherwise. She told Ashido that the name was too scary and could get copyrighted by the company that made the alien franchise. One disappointed student went to her seat.
Next up was Aoyama. And his name, eh, was kinda long.
"I Can Not Stop Twinkling!"
I thought Midnight was going to send him back but instead, she slightly shortened it to 'Can't Stop Twinkling' and said it was good. This put everyone in panic including me because how in the hell were we supposed to pick hero names if that passed and Alien Queen didn't?
Tsu went next and God knows I was praying for her. She needed to break this trend. She cleared her throat before revealing her board. "Froppy"
"Fantastic name, Asui." Midnight gave the thumbs up and all the stress from the previous two names went away. 'Thank God, thank you Tsu for making this so much easier to decide.'
Students started going up at a faster pace now. Tokoyami went up and used the name Luna had given him, Tsukuyomi. Midnight loved the name so he got to keep it.
Others started to go up and give their names. None ended like with Ashido's first name. Well, except for Bakugou.
"King Explosion Murder"
"Way too violent. Pick again." Midnight's words put a vein on the blonde's forehead but he listened and returned to his seat. Todoroki just put his first name. And it was fine!
This made me consider just putting Leo down but something was preventing me from doing that. My mind wandered to how I picked Warrior during the tournament in Universe 500.9. How other warriors in Universe one were so different than me yet still had great pride in who they were.
He remembered who he was as a martial artist. How he planned on fighting the war on evil in his own way.
This made me make my decision.
Before I raise my hand, Midoriya beat me to it. He went to the front of the class and placed his board to be read. The name surprised everybody.
Deku
The very name that Bakugou had made for him was an insult but here he was taking pride in it. It showed how he was on his path to being a hero and I could respect that.
After some confirmation by Midnight, Midoriya returned to his seat. But before I could raise my hand Bakugou shoots up and walks to the front. He reveals his name to be…
Lord Explosion Murder
Oh...this was too good. The kid was obsessed with violent names. And unfortunately for him, none of them will fly. The blonde was rejected again and steamed his way back to his seat.
I finally raised my hand and Midnight called me to the front. There, I took a breath and revealed my name. Some didn't care but a few gave affirming nods as well as a thumbs up by a few.
"Martial Warrior, the Master of Martial Arts"
I was sitting down with Tokoyami and Shoji for lunch when Mr. Aizawa came up to me and said he wanted to show me something. He started leading me down the empty halls to our destination.
"Before we get there, I wanted to talk to you about the internships." This caught my attention. "Midoriya got a request from a last-minute hero and he will most likely go to said hero for the week. As for you, we are not sending you to a hero agency."
"Why would that be?"
"It is because the school does not trust any of the heroes that you would be sent to. Not because they are bad at their job, or that they are cruel, but because they may view your quirklessness as a reason that you can't fight. The school knows that you fight incredibly well and for improvement to happen you would need to get shown the ropes by those who have that knowledge about you."
"So, in short, your internship will consist of a different teacher each day that would take you on patrols. Some volunteers are Present Mic, Midnight, and myself, as well as others. Learning from different people may both help and harm how you learn some basics but it should be enough for now."
"Also, since the quirk laws don't affect you all too much you should fully expect us to test you against actual villains. So get ready for that."
I nodded. "Thank you for looking after me, sir. I appreciate it." Mr. Aizawa nodded before turning to the door and opening it. Inside stood two people. One was the principal with his cup of tea in hand. The other was a grey-haired man in his twenties who wore a large grey overcoat. Large, black boots could be seen under the massive coat and a badge shined on his chest.
Aizawa brought me to the grey-haired man and motioned between us. "Leo, this is Detective Brian Ladwick with the police department. He is here to begin an investigation on the assassin who attacked you. Detective, this is Leo."
The man nodded and reached out his hand. "I've heard you, like me, know much about America. So what about we greet each other like them." I had no problem with this and shook his hand. "It is a pleasure, young man."
"For me as well, detective." The man smiled and started looking at me up and down.
"A firm grip, and even in uniform your presence lets off a massive sense of power. I could tell how Obsidian got defeated by you. A man such as yourself can fight."
Obsidian? Was that the name of the guy who attacked me before the Sports Festival? Ladwick seemed to notice my confusion and continued.
"The body may have disappeared in a light shortly after his death but traffic cams showed his face and revealed him to be the criminal known as Obsidian. A highly powerful street fighter with many kills. But judging from the report, that may have been the cause of his defeat."
The principal and Mr. Aizawa left the room and Ladwick and Ithet down across from each other on sofas. "I've come to ask some questions about the assassins who you have encountered. You do have the most experience with them as of right now."
I nodded. "Certainly, what do you need to know?"
Ladwick nodded. "First, what do you think is their agenda? Do you think the League of Villains hired them to kill students?"
"I don't think they are specifically targeting students as a whole. They always seem to be after the strongest in the room and the League at the USJ was there for All Might and I assume that was the reason Bladedge was there. As for the League hiring them...that may only be half the picture."
"What makes you say that?" The detective leaned forward.
"Bladedge said he was hired in an agreement between two forces. There is possibly another party if they have not merged with the League."
"Uh…huh, and finally, one last question, you said that they both had a tattoo that said 'Brotherhood' on them."
"Yes"
"Alright, now before I go and let you return to classes, do you have any questions for me?" Ladwick began to pack up the notes he was filling out. It was a short time of questioning but it looked like it helped.
"Just one. Why would these assassins kill themselves?"
"Oh, uh, well kid some organizations don't like their secrets being taken and to avoid it they have their members take their own lives to prevent that." The detective looked uncomfortable saying that.
"What I meant was, if these members are a part of some brotherhood, why didn't they just not talk. Surely, these people are sneaky enough to get someone off a transport. But for some reason, they are willing to lose their lives for this money. And let's not forget that Bladedge talked as if his employer was the strongest there was."
"Maybe I'm overthinking it, maybe they just don't want their secrets spilled. But if that was the case, why talk about their plan so much. We know more about this group from two attacks than we do about organizations we have known for years. They talk too much to be true assassins."
Ladwick was deep in thought. "You bring up a good point. I'll look into it. But for now, we don't know this for certain so this stays between us."
I get up and nod. Yeah, my reason for suspicion was lame. But I couldn't shake the feeling. But, this could wait. The internship was what he had to worry about now.
Today was a free training day for the class. We each had to get ready in our own way. All Might took us to Test Site B where we all went our separate ways. Tokoyami decided to train by himself today which was fine because I had something to work on.
So while Tokoyami was in a dark room, I asked Cementoss to create the largest and thinnest spike he could. This confused him but he obliged. There, I perched with my feet coming together on the top of the spike to give me balance while I was able to see the entire mock city from my spot.
My objective was to master a technique that would have helped immensely during the USJ. One that I had a grasp on but needed to improve before it could be used.
Instant Transmission
The technique would allow me to teleport between places, even during combat. The Yardratian technique was one of the more simple ones to master but it opened up so much possibility.
Which means he would have to master Spirit Control. The ability to manipulate one's spirit to perform techniques seemed impossible. Hence, the 'platform' which resembled the ones used on Yardrat.
He smiled at the memory of mastering his spirit control in the time chamber. He had spent months on a ki pillar just like this one. Since he was young there wasn't much energy to get control of but even though he was pretty good at manipulating it he could never perform one of the techniques.
But maybe if I hurried, it's possible to at least do instant transmission before the end of the first semester.
My ki erupted from my body and began to circulate me. It also began to sparkle and my body started to sting. It needed to get used to spirit control for this to work. I began to sweat from how much effort was needed to pull this off.
This lasted about two hours. Two hours of silence. Then it was broken.
I began hearing someone panting. Looking around, nothing was nearby considering the spike was about two hundred meters up. Deciding to shrug it off, I return to the meditative stance. But the panting grew louder, and louder until a hand grabbed my leg.
"What the fuck!?" My eyes shoot open and look down to see Kirishima had climbed the entire pillar. All the way to the thin top. He was breathing heavily and was starting to look scared.
"I'm sorry! My original plan was to get to the top and jump off, but at about two-thirds of the way up here I realized if I try that then not even my hardening could save me! You can fly, can't you? Can you help me down?!"
"Okay, okay, just let me turn off this training state and I'll help you down." I closed my eyes and my ki started to return to me.
"How can you train this high!"
"I'm not afraid of heights."
"Obviously!"
Once energy came to a halt, I grabbed Kirishima and flew us down to the bottom. Once we got there Kirishima spoke. "You have very weird ways to train. But I guess if it was straightforward then a lot more people would be as strong as you."
This caused me to snort. "You know if you need to get hit by something you can always ask me to punch you."
The redhead looked hesitant. "You could hurt yourself if you do."
I waved him off and we each took a stance. My hands waved in front of me to prepare for my attack. Kirishima hardened his body and raised his arms to defend against my attack.
I nod towards him to make sure he was ready and when he gave me the thumbs up I threw a punch using the Flowing Water Crushing Rock. It caught him in the forearms as the force of the attack caused some rubble around us to rise slightly.
After a second, Kirishima flew back about six meters before he landed on his back. There were some cracks on his arms but other than that he seemed fine.
Kirishima hissed in pain. "Man, you hit hard. If I didn't have my quirk I'd be taken out." He tried to shift his feet but then realized that when the punch had forced him back his feet dug into the ground. Now they were stuck in the concrete.
After a moment, the redhead pulled his feet out of the ground and made his way back to me. I twisted my wrist to check for damage. It felt numb but other than that it was fine. Pretty good durability. I felt the recoil from that."
"How did you hit so hard? I know you used that stream thing but I couldn't imagine punching that hard with years of training." Kirishima looked at his forearms. He appeared to be shaking from the impact.
"It's all in the form. You have a good one for defense, I have a good one for just combat in general."
Kirishima then grinned. "Can you keep going? It might help both of us if you practice attacking me with different moves."
I nodded and we spent the rest of the training with Kirishima getting slammed into with all sorts of attacks. Even hit him with the Galick Gun at one point. Whenever he got exhausted I gave him some of my energy to keep him going. He still sported damage but his will to continue outweighed his pain.
By the time All Might called us back to announce that classes had ended, I was carrying Kirishima to see Recovery Girl. She wasn't too happy to see us.
After class, I asked Aizawa if I could practice flying at the UA training grounds after hours. He told me it was alright as long as I left at five. Apparently, I wasn't the only student who stayed, and that the upper classes tended to have students practice their quirks in one of the open fields.
This was perfect for me.
When I got to the grassy training area there were already about six other students practicing their quirks. A group had formed about fifty meters to my right that consisted of three people. All the others had scattered into the distance.
I dropped my backpack on the ground and used a clothes beam to put on my training gi. My knee bent into the ground as well as my knuckle. Ki surrounded my body as I jumped off the ground. The first ten meters went easy but my speed quickly declined into my average flying speed. Which wasn't satisfying.
Again
The ground rumbled as my hands shot energy to propel me upwards. It worked for a little bit but when I tried to mix it with my martial arts and quickly realized that flying this way wasn't going to work. Before I could stop, however, my trajectory shifted drastically and I slammed into the ground at full speed.
Again
My body shoots upwards as my ki launches me like a bullet. Flowing from my head to my feet in a rapid session. I fly up, and up, and up. This was the fastest I've traveled but quickly a problem arose when I couldn't move my body to turn or fight. As a last resort, I shifted the tide of the ki and propelled down. Once again slamming into the ground.
Again
I continue to shoot into the sky and fall into the ground. Every time this happened I would get up without saying anything and try again. This was nothing new to me. Enduring through intense training was the best way for me to keep moving forward. Even if I failed, even if my body started to break down, the only way forward was through failure. And damn did I know how to fail.
After about an hour I lay in a little hole that had been made and looked into the sky. My mind was pondering on what mistake was being made. Every other ki fighter knew how to fly at insane speeds yet I was looking for a way to fly at such speeds and maintain perfect control too. Using gear was out of the question since the two he based this fighting style off of, Dratten and John, both had no gear that helped them fly.
He was missing something but what.
"Are you okay? You look tired. Are you training out here?"
I turn to where the new voice came from. In front of me was a girl a little younger than me with long blue hair. Her eyes were some of the largest I have ever seen and she wore a UA tracksuit. She was looking down at me from the edge of the crater.
Giving her a thumbs up, I kick back to my feet and stretch my sore neck. "Just practicing some flying. Few failures but that tends to happen. Are you out here practicing too?"
She nodded. "I tend to train my endurance because my quirk drains it greatly. I've come far but there is still some more that could be done." I pulled myself out of the hole before she continued. "What are you struggling with when you fly?"
"Control and speed. I can lift myself with my energy and place myself in another area. When I propel myself with ki with my hands or with a fluent motion then I can't control where I go. There is a way and I just need to find that way." I turned to her. "Sorry, I just got caught in my thoughts. Name is Leo."
"Nejire Hado. But my hero name is Nejire Chan." Nejire then internally squealed in excitement to have found one of the students Ryukyu was looking for. "I heard you first years got hero names today. What did yours end up being?"
"Martial Warrior"
"Martial...Warrior? Neat name." She then looked at the crater. "I've heard you are from Universe 1. If that is the case, how did you fly just then without a quirk."
"It's called ki. If somebody meditates enough they can manipulate their life energy into whatever they need. Mainly blasts and flying but other things could be done."
Nejire raised her arm to the crater. "My power is similar but I was born with it. I could convert vitality to these spiral energy blasts. It takes a lot out of me but it helps." She then shot a rotating beam of energy that struck the side of the crater. What surprised me though was how my senses detected the blast.
"This is an odd question but can you do that again. I can sense other people's ki but yours is way more different than any other that I've encountered."
She gave me a confused look before firing another blast. The energy gave a rather calm feeling off of it and not any that he sensed before. "How do your blasts work if this feels so different?"
It was my turn to extend my arm to the crater. "They can vary but this is the most common attack." A light orb shot out and detonated upon hitting the hole. She looked at the attack with surprise.
"They can travel that fast!? Wow, if anyone could learn this then that means my quirk may become obsolete soon."
I gave it some thought then walked about ten meters away, then raised my hand and created a small orb which quickly produced a barrier. "Let's find out. Hit this shield with your attack. I have a strange feeling about your energy."
Nejire looked hesitant but she shifted her hand to face me. Then she aimed and fired a small burst of energy. From the size, it looked like it couldn't pierce a slab of wood.
So imagine my surprise when it went straight through my ki barrier like it wasn't there and clipped my cheek. The look of shock evident on my face was extreme.
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry! I thought the barrier would hold. That cut looks bad, you might need stitches"
"Calm down, Nejire. The gash is fine. I've had worse when training by myself. And also, you assumed correctly, the barrier did hold. Your energy just didn't care."
This seemed to confuse her. I dropped the barrier and tried to explain. "Your energy is a unique type of ki that I have never seen before. I guess that you were born with a larger amount of energy than those around you so your quirk adapted to allow you to use it easily. But since it was expelled from your body from a different method than usual then it took a unique form. These blasts of life energy seem to have the ability to go through physical objects created by ki. Such as the barrier I created and the subconscious one that surrounds my body." I exhaled.
Nejire raised a finger. "So It's more effective against those who use ki. Wow, you learn something new every day." Her eyes then widened."If you are so good at using energy, then could you maybe help me improve my control over my quirk? If you do, I'll help you fly."
I give it some thought. Helping another person realize their potential could help in the future. She seemed kind enough and didn't look down on me for being quirkless. Plus, this new energy intrigued me. Another Plus, this may be the breakthrough I need to learn how to fly easier.
"Deal"
She smiled and nodded before holding out her pinky. "Pinky promise." I sign before sealing the deal. Then she turned around and started to head to the gate of UA. "It's almost time to leave campus. It was nice meeting you, Leo. I tend to stay back every couple of days so the next time we meet we can practice."
"I'll see you later then Nejire." I went to grab my backpack and headed home.
The next day, I was sitting inside Recovery Girl's office waiting for her to come back. The other students were heading to their respected internship locations across Japan. Tokoyami said he would be interning with a hero who he caught the attention of, the number three hero known as Hawks.
Me being me had no idea who that was so Tokoyami had brought over Midoriya to give me a detailed thirty-second explanation before dragging the muttering kid back to his group.
Mr. Aizawa said that Present Mic would be taking me on a patrol around the nearby area after Recovery Girl did a check-up on me. The nurse said that since I haven't had one since I was ten it was in our best interest to get me up to date.
I hear the door open and the nurse walks in. She puts down a clipboard on the desk at the corner of the room and turns to me. "Good morning, young Leo. It is good to see you decided to come. I figured you would be more hesitant to have someone look at you."
"I am, but as you said before, it is best to get it looked at." She told me to take off my shirt and lay back as she checked my scars and gathered blood. I then checked on Neo in my head. 'Neo, can you help me focus on something else while she works on the tests.'
He shifted around in my head. "You could just do image training until it's done. I'll snap you out of it when it's over or she asks a question."
I turn to Recovery Girl. "Since I don't take my scars being messed with well I'll be doing mental training. I'm NOT sleeping and if you need me just talk."
The nurse nodded. "You can sleep if you want. These tests could take a while." After she said that, I rested back and closed my eyes, and thought about which opponent he should fight again.
He then decided to go against Basil because that was an opponent he could push himself against. He entered the arena back in Universe 500.9 where their first battle took place and started battling.
Neo was watching Recovery Girl complete the checkup on Leo. When she had first looked at the scar he had on his chest it took a moment for her to comprehend it before she continued her work.
He watched her lift his joints and check to see if they function properly. Then went to look at his ears to make sure they were in good health.
She took a moment to look closely at the chest scar and made sure it wasn't infected. Even took some pictures for a file on them.
While this went on, Neo looked inside Leo's head. All he saw was him getting his shit smashed by Basil. It was amusing.
"Oh, what is this?" Neo looked back at the pro hero and saw her looking at the bandage on his cheek. He remembered Leo telling her about the gash he got from Nejire. She had said she would check the bandage and if needed, heal him.
But when Neo got a better look at the cut he was just as bewildered as Recovery Girl.
While the cut was still there it had shrunk greatly in size. It went from a gash that would take weeks to one that should disappear by the end of the current one. Recovery Girl must have known this was not how big it was yesterday because after healing him with a kiss she went and got a needle.
The nurse then pulled some blood out of his arm and went to her desk and placed it in a container to be examined. When she came back her hypothesis was proven right because the little mark from the needle that could take at least a day or two to heal was completely gone.
What the f…
Mr. Aizawa was in his sleeping bag in the teacher's lounge. With all the students off on their internships, he had plenty of time to himself. Normally, this would call for a patrol around the city. Today, however, he thought he deserved a few Zs. And with Present Mic going on patrol with Leo, now was his best chance.
Midnight sat at her desk grading papers. She kept things quiet because out of everyone in the professional world of heroes Shouta worked harder than most so whenever he slept it was well deserved.
All Might was also in the lounge. He wasn't doing much but ponder recent events. And also pray for Midoriya who was active with Gran Torino this very moment.
The underground hero opened his eyes when the door opened. He glanced over to find Recovery Girl standing above him. "I have some information that you would find most interesting about our student from another Universe. It can wait if you wish."
"If you wanted to wait then you wouldn't have come in here." He sighed and sat up against the wall. The school nurse placed a file on one of the desks before placing a projector down. The other two teachers watched curiously as test results for a checkup came up.
"I just finished going over the results of Leo's health check when something caught my eye. And no, the scars will not be shown. They are not what surprised me."
The skinny hero raised an eyebrow. "Then what could be so unusual about him? Besides him being stronger than the rest of the quirkless population."
"I'll get to that shortly. But for now, let me ask you a question. What do you all know about evolution?"
The teachers looked at each other. They had no idea where this was going but decided to play along with it. "Creatures evolve to adapt to changing environments or threats. Such as how many assume humans evolved from monkeys, or how many believe human evolution is what created quirks."
"That is a theory, yes. But evolution could travel in different directions. It's not set to one path. From my inspection on Leo's body and his abilities, it seems he has undergone an evolution."
Eraserhead raised an eyebrow. "What are you saying? His abilities come from training."
"Not all of them." The projector turned on and floated over the desks. It showed a security cam over one of UA's training areas. Specifically, the grassy field that students tend to exercise at after school. A quick video played of one of the third year's big three, Nejire Hado, clipping Leo with her quirk. "Leo and Miss Hado encountered each other yesterday. They started a conversation and eventually, Hado tested her quirk on the boy."
The clip showed the spiral beam graze Leo's cheek and a small gash was seen. "As I said, this happened yesterday." The video changed to a picture. "And this is today."
It took a moment for All Might to see it but when he did his eyes widened. "It's not healed entirely but it looks like weeks have passed in the healing process."
Recovery Girl continued. "It appears he has a healing factor that, although isn't the strongest one we have seen, is strong enough to put him in fighting shape in a much shorter time. I predict this cut will be gone by the end of the internship."
"This got me wondering what was causing the healing factor. And when viewing his blood the answer came to me." The picture changed to a short video. One would recognize it as blood cells from a grade school presentation. "As you all know, these are blood cells. And these…" She clicked on the projector. "Are Leo's blood cells."
The clip showed that the circular blood had small glowing swirls protruding from the center. Even more noticeable was the strange path they seemed to be taking. It seemed way too linear to be like normal blood.
"When I saw this I took a closer look at what properties they have. The first theory was that the blood indicated some sickness but after looking deeper I realized the blood is much stronger than our blood. It carries far more oxygen, it is faster but can slow down and even fix itself in the event of a clog, and finally, any disease I have tried to infect the blood with has died almost instantly.
"And it is not just his blood. His skin is more durable than most I have seen even though it is the same width as everyone else's. It was difficult to take blood from him even with a needle."
"So after some thinking, my theory is that the chamber that he was put in as a kid that led into his adulthood had a terrible environment. Normally, the body would fail after a while but with the existence of senzu beans, it is quite possible that he was healed over and over again when a human would normally collapse and die. And since he was still growing, that would be the best time for him too…"
"Evolve"
The heroes turned to All Might. "It makes sense. I can see Dratten having the ability to heal Leo in the time chamber. That man has abilities that far exceed reality. And in Leo's file, it stated that the room he was held in contained ten times earth's gravity, as well as drastic temperature changes and a shitty atmosphere. The only way he could have survived was if he physically changed fast enough to handle those conditions."
It was Midnight's turn to comment. "Wait, Leo has said that he is roughly nine times stronger than the average person. Shouldn't this evolution have made him at least ten times stronger to handle the strain? Ten times the normal gravity, ten times the strength. Or is Leo wrong?"
Recovery Girl nodded. "I thought the same thing. But it came to me that maybe the body was able to evolve to become more durable at the cost of putting a limit on his power. I looked at the files of other ki users. Leo isn't nearly as physically strong as the others. But when his body slowed down its progression…"
"His mind didn't." Eraserhead intervened. "That is why he is such an experienced fighter." The teacher turned to the nurse. "Is there a way to stop this restriction on his strength?"
"Perhaps he just needs to push through, or what we say, go plus ultra. He is no longer in the time chamber. Once he can break through this wall he may return to normal growth for ki users."
"This is a lot for a theory, how can we be sure that it is right?" said Midnight.
"It's not just her theory."
Nezu walked into the teacher's lounge. "I have been studying other universes' power sets and can confirm, or at least partially confirm, that many things are restricting Leo's growth. The topic of limiters interests me as well as what Recovery Girl told me about his fear of what happened in his past."
The principal looked at the projector. "He could be mentally holding himself back as well. That is one of the reasons why I'm glad we accepted him into this school. To help him become a great hero. And the other reason…" He looked towards Mr. Aizawa. "He is quickly helping the rest of the class mentally prepare for the future. Physically for Tokoyami, Kirishima, Shoji, and now Kirishima and Nejire. Mentally for those like Koda at the USJ and soon Iida if what he told me comes to fruition."
"Leo could help us all change in a good way."
Mr. Aizawa snorted. "I wonder how Mic is doing on the patrol with him anyway? Hm, you know what? I don't care. As long as he is not here to keep me awake." The teacher got out of his sleeping bag and left the room. "I'm going back to my classroom. Remember, tomorrow I have Leo. And it is time he got put through the wringer with me."
Thank you Righteet for pointing out that Leo is kinda weak for someone who has fought many strong individuals. I hope this chapter puts into light as to why. Keep in mind that Leo is stronger than the other classmates but when he fights the multiverses strongest he often loses. Basil only lost because of a surprise factor and Opac and his crew weren't considered incredibly strong.
But also, the name drop happened in this chapter. Martial Warrior. The more the story goes on the more meaning it will have. Seems pretty cool to me.
This chapter more so served as an explanation of Leo's future power and introduced the detective. Internships should be more in-depth in the next chapter, including what is happening for Leo and a spar with a certain character.
But thank you for reading and remember, I will take any comment. Don't be shy to ask or point out mistakes. I want to improve this story so that you all could read it and so future stories I make won't make the same mistakes.
