This Story Takes Place in Rural America in the made up County of Rohan. Starters are considered rare Pokémon, the normal rules of evolution such as friendship, evolution stones, and experience will still be in play, but trade evolutions will not exist. Instead, trade evolutions are made to be friendship evolutions (these can occur in the wild)
With breakfast over the seemingly happy family rushed out to their vehicle without the first word being spoken.
"Hey dad," James began to speak as the vehicle started to move. "Where exactly is John going to pick his first Pokémon?"
"He has to go to Professor Emeritus to choos-"
"Why couldn't he get one from our daycare?" The curious child asked.
"Because he didn't want one from us." Don replied.
"Why dad?" James prodded.
"We'll... it's because... some not so nice people... they-"
"Those people in black and white took everything didn't they!" James interrupted. "They took all my friends away!" He yelled as tears began to form. "I... I... I'll get them back one day!" The young boy sobbed over the Pokémon he missed so dearly.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the Gastly followed them and was in the car, too. He seemed to sympathize with James over losing his friends. This Gastly had also lost his friends to the people in black and white.
"Well, we're here." Don said pulling up to Professor Emeritus's driveway. "Looks like John is waiting for us, let's go ahead and get out so he can finally choose."
"Hey, what took y'all so long?" John spoke.
The time was now 12:07, a little past time for John to pick his Pokémon, but even though his uncle and aunt were a bit late, he was happy they showed up. James had stopped crying by this point because he felt a strange feeling of comfort, and it wasn't from his family.
"Now that we're here, I can't wait to see what you choose." James said, his voice a little shaky.
"Alright," the professor said, "Let's head inside and so this young man can finally get his long awaited first Pokémon." Professor Emeritus spoke rather proudly.
As everyone walked into the lab, a strange smell entered their nostrils. It almost smelled like bleach, but not as bad. The walls were white and clean without so much as a speck of dust on the floor. In one corner a strange device can be seen. Meanwhile, in the very center of the room sat a table with three poke balls on it.
"Woooow!" John said as he approached the table. "What Pokémon are in them?" He asked with a mix of excitement and amazement.
"Well." A voice from the other side of the room made herself visible. "Starting off you have three choices of what type. Fire, water, and grass." She said.
"That's right sweety." The Professor said. Young Lacy here has been doing her research for when she gets her own Pokémon. And I'm very proud of how much she knows already."
"Thank you, dad." Lacy spoke. "As for what exact Pokémon are inside, even I don't know. It'll be just as much as a surprise to me."
"In that case, let's hurry up and in's out what are inside!" John said rather annoyed.
"Ah, yes. Let's get to it." The Professor agreed. "Lacy if you please."
"Sure thing." The young girl chipped as she walked up to the table and grabbed the three balls. "Come on out guys!" She said allowing each creature to be release from the balls.
"Woah..." James said. "I've never seen Pokémon like this before! What are they?"
"First we have Torchic, the fire type. Second we have Treeko, the grass type. And lastly we have Mudkip, the water type. John, no matter which you choose it'll be your first partner Pokémon. Your partner Pokémon is the one you'll have the strongest bond with. I urge you to not choose based on who may be the strongest, or the coolest, but on who you connect with the most." The Professor explained.
"Hm... Hi Treeko, would you like to be my friend?" John asked and immediately the Pokémon tried to attack him, but luckily he was returned to his ball in time. "Alright. What about you Torchic? Would you like to be my friend?" He spoke to the small bird. The little Torchic jumped happily up and down trying to tell John yes. "Well alright Torchic, you can be my partner on one condition. You gotta get along with James."
James waved at the small fire type. "Hello will you be my friend too..."
And as soon as he got the last word out the Torchic shot embers straight at him. He closed his eyes and tried to protect his face as the whole room erupted in fear over what was going to happen. But at the same moment their fear turned into shock as James opened his eyes to be unharmed. Torchic was immediately returned to his ball, but afterwords all eyes were in front of James. For, a lone Gastly floated in front of him, seemingly unharmed by the fires it protected the boy from.
"James!" John cried. "You didn't tell me you already had a Pokémon!"
"That's because I didn't know..." James replied in a mixture of shock and ease.
"Oh... Um, thank you for saving my best friend." John said in grateful tone.
"Gast Gastly." It said before seemingly smiling at James and disappearing.
"That was bizarre." Professor Emeritus spoke.
"Yeah, it was." Lacy agreed.
"James I've never seen a Gastly, much less a ghost type pokemon help a human. It seems there is something it you it likes, maybe even sympathizes with you. Who knows, maybe you won't even need a starter Pokémon from me, because from what I see here I believe you may already have your own Pokémon. I don't typically do this, but I'm giving you this." The Professor said as he handed James an empty poke ball. "When the time is right catch that Pokémon and it'll be your partner. And judging from today I don't think you'll have much trouble. Anyway, John there seems to be the one Pokémon left to choose from. If you don't like it you'll have to wait until I get some different beginner level Pokémon."
"I'll check out the last one, Mudkip was it?" John said as he approached the final one. "You're not gonna attack me or James are you?" He asked it.
"Kip kip!"
"Alright then, would you like to be my partner?"
The water type replied by rolling onto his back, exposing his belly.
"I'll take that as a yes." John says as he begins to rub on the water type's belly. "James come over here and meet my partner."
"Alright." James said as he cautiously approached the Pokémon. "I'm John's best friend. Nice to meet you." He spoke to it. "Will you be my friend too?" James asked as he knelt down.
The Pokemon then stood up and tried to lick James' face, a welcome change from the last one. "Well, I'll take that as a yes, too."
"Then it's settled." The Professor began as he retrieved Mudkip's ball from Lacy and placed it in John's hands. "He is your partner now, treat him well and he will treat you well. There is still one final matter we need to address, will you give Mudkip a nickname. It's alright if you need to think it ove-."
"Skipper. I'll name him Skipper." John interrupted. "Do you like that name?" John asked as the Pokémon began to jump up and down.
"Then from this moment on Mudkip, Skipper, is your partner Pokémon. He will grow with you and he will protect you when the need arises. He is not to be seen as a animal, but your friend. You'll be by each other from here on. John, At this moment your Pokémon Journey begins." Emeritus turned to James. "And you James, your Pokémon Journey has began today, too. Make the best of it. For now, I hope you all stay safe on your ways home. There's been a lot of disturbances here lately." He said as he guided them to the door. "Stay safe."
"We will." Everyone seemingly said in unison as they went to their vehicles and headed their separate ways.
Welcome to the end of Chapter 2. I know this was a long 2nd chapter but I needed to set up for chapter 3 because after chapter three there will be a major time skip of about 5 years, it may seem like a while but it's important for the story. Anyway, I hope y'all enjoyed and I'll have the next chapter out soon!
