Aomine sat there, staring, actually glaring would probably be more of an accurate description at the midnight haired girl. She couldn't see him, he sat behind her. How had he not noticed her before? Well, it's not surprising, she was average at best. But he was still surprised he didn't at least recognize her as someone familiar. They had spent weeks at the same school, in the same class. He continued to stare at her in annoyance.
When they were dismissed for lunch, Sakurai dutifully came and sat next to Aomine, sharing his lunch. Aomine grabbed some of his food without hesitation.
"Ryo. Do you know that girl?" Aomine asked uninterested.
"Um I'm sorry. What girl?" Sakurai apologized, looking nervous.
"The one with the black hair, almost with a purple hue." He vaguely gestured over to her, and Sakurai followed his gesture.
"Oh, Sara? Yes, she is nice. She is in our class and I see her at games sometimes." He responds, head down embarrassed.
"Huh?" He responds, confused.
"I'm sorry, was that not the right answer? I'm sorry." He bows at his table, apologizing again.
Aomine eyes him, and grabs a rice ball out of his lunch, dropping the topic. They eat in silence the rest of the lunch period, and he notices that Sara eats alone at her desk.
The rest of the day flew luckily, though his normal naps were interrupted by periods of his mind not being able to stop thinking. He was cranky, he was tired, and he was not going to practice. He knew Satsuki would be mad, but he never said he would start going back right away, plus it was only a day.
He shouldered his bag as he walked off of campus. He had lost sight of the girl right after class was dismissed, not that he minded. He was annoyed with her, what even was her deal. As he cleared his mind finally and walked down the sidewalk towards the train, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Most likely Satsuki, he ignored it. It buzzed again and Aomine, annoyed picked it up.
"What." He deadpanned.
"Idiot, did you forget about our practice game today?"
"Damnit." He had. He had already been ignoring Satsuki on the ride to school, and totally forgot about it after his frustrating time in class. He would have to yell at Ryo for not reminding him.
"Dai-chan. I am really disappointed…" Satsuki sounded upset. "I thought-"
"Oh shut up, I just forgot. I am coming back." He snapped his phone shut, annoyed. He turned back towards campus and made his way to the gym.
"I'm sorry!" He heard Sakurai scream, teary eyed as he made his way into the gym. "I am so sorry." He continued, bowing. Aomine ignored him and walked over to the bench where Wakamatsu was seething.
"You show up, after the other damn team Aomine. What the-" He was interrupted by Momoi jumping in.
"Dai-chan you idiot. Put on your jersey." She threw the garment at him as he walked away towards the locker room. She looked over towards Wakamatsu. "Baby steps." She smiled. Wakamatsu's fury dissipated, as he went to round up the other members. They would be starting as soon.
As warm-ups finished, Aomine went to sit on the bench. The rest of the team gathered in a huddle, talking about the upcoming game. Aomine drank out of his water bottle, half listening, half eyeing the competition. They would crush them, no doubt about it. It would be best if he didn't even play, why was he even here? He forcefully set the water bottle back on the floor next to his chair. The refs blew the whistle and the starting five ran out onto the court. Aomine sighed, relaxing in his chair. Hopefully this will go quick, I need to stop at the market.
The game was going by quickly enough, Too was dominating, as predicted. Aomine was lost in thought, wondering which market to pick up his magazine at, when he noticed her. You have got to be kidding me.
There was Sara, sitting up in the bleachers, watching the game. Why was she everywhere? School, class, the game. Why was she every place he looked?
