Season 4 Episode 2:
(Tobias is called back to find a way to communicate with Fifth, even if he is dead, his consciousness could be in the link.).
Tobias is asleep in his garage, fixing his Ford GT's carburetor, but his phone rang and he jumped lightly. Answering it he went like. "Tobias Wilson speaking.". "Major Carter.". "No, I am awake, what do you need?". "I can be there in… … forty minutes, car broke down.". "Thanks I appreciate it.".
Twenty minutes later, Sam arrived at his driveway. Tobias came to her with his tools and BDU'S. He got in and she stepped on it. At base, Tobias was inspecting the Replicator shards. As he was inspecting he then saw an electric charge coming from one of the pieces, frightened he took another look. He got an idea.
He was explaining his plan to the others. "These shards are active, now before you make assumptions, I think we can use this to track Captain Baird, or even tap into the Replicator Link.". Jack crossed his arms. "So, can we help Conrad?" he asked bluntly. Tobias nodded. "We might then be able to learn what they done to him.". Hammond smiled for the first time in months. "Well then, let's do it.". Tobias then said: "But, we need someone's conscious mind in the link.". Sam volunteered. But Jack said he can do it. Teel'c said he'll do it. So did Daniel. Tobias told everyone to shut up. "I'll do it.". Sam then crossed her arms. "Who will operate the computers?". Tobias then handed a file. "I have a contacted on Atlantis. This is him.". Sam looked at the file and she groaned. Jack took it and read it. "This guy? For real?". Tobias nodded. "He is the only one who can help, he did work frontline to stop these Replicators.".
The gate activated and it connected with Atlantis. Doctor Rodney McKay came through with a duffle bag over his shoulder and a laptop in the other hand. Tobias walked to him. "Rodney, been a while.". McKay nodded. "Sure was. So, why did you call me, the absolute genius in Replicator technology all the way from the Pegasus Galaxy?" he gloated. And it drove Sam crazy, she didn't hate him, she despises him. Jack was annoyed by this little shit's attitude. Tobias then led Rodney to the lab. Rodney inspected the shards. "Well, they are similar to the ones I worked on, but it will take a while, but I think I can get it to work. What is the plan specifically?". Sam then came in. "To save a friend of mine.". Rodney then did one of his no promising flirting attempts. "Major Carter, sexy as always." He said with a wink. Sam rolled her eyes, as she was walking away she flashed him her middle finger. Tobias then spoke. "She is taken McKay.". Rodney then looked interested. "Really who?". Tobias was quiet. "None of your business but, I know the guy.". Rodney then got back to work. "It's just that, she is probably the most attractive thing I have ever seen." He said. Tobias nodded. "I know, blondes are pretty hot. But, sometimes you have to go out of your comfort zone to get what you want.". Rodney then shrugged. "True. So who is this friend we are helping, he sounds important.".
Tobias nodded. "His name is Captain Conrad Baird. US marine transferred to SG-1. A year ago, he was send to another reality, he was stuck there, he helped them defeat an enemy, well the threat is still there but they didn't need him anymore, so they send him home, five months later, this happened, Replicators did something to him.".
Rodney was listening now. "Captain Conrad Baird, the name rings a bell.". Tobias then handed a file. Rodney read it, it was Conrad's file. "That's where I heard about him, he was placed on a list for transfer to Atlantis, the guy is tougher then nails.". Tobias nodded. "I know him. He and I planned on starting a company together, but it all backfired, our friendship, his fiancé dumped him on the day 9f their wedding, on the aisle. She gave me a roofie and fucked me on my friend's couch.". Rodney then nearly vomited in his mouth. "That is so wrong.". Tobias nodded. "He beaten me up good. We lost contact for years.".
Rodney sighed. "I am given two weeks leave, I am at your disposal. I will help you with finding your friend.". Tobias nodded. "Thanks man, I need it.". Sam came in with what looked like coffee. "Coffee anyone?". Tobias took a sip of his. Just the way he liked it. McKay took a sip of his too. "Thank you, and Sam, uhmm, if you need my help into finding your friend, I am at your disposal.". Sam was taken by surprise on that one. She never expected this to happen. Tobias covered his face with a loud and depressing groan. "Let's get to work.".
The three of them got to work. Hours past, Tobias inspecting the shards. Rodney making equations and Sam pointing mistakes out which McKay corrected without hesitation. Tobias made blueprints to get a better look. They worked all night on nothing but fast food and caffeine. By morning they had a machine built.
All they needed to do was get someone to sit in it and they can communicate with the Replicators. Sam volunteered and got set in. The two wires were taped onto her temples. Closing her eyes she opened seeing she was in the link. A camera recorded what she saw. Jack was nervous, he still thought he was a better choice.
Sam was standing around for a few seconds and then a familiar voice made her turn around. "Sam.". It was Fifth. Sam was happy to see him, but scared as well. Fifth explained that before he was terminated he transferred his program into the link, making his, the actual link. Sam got right into business. "Fifth, what happened to Conrad?". Fifth spoke. "My kind have been finding ways to create our own flesh and blood vessels. But the best we did was create a chip that has to be planted into the vessel, we aren't as advanced as the our Pegasus Galaxy brethren. That is what Conrad is, she planted a prototype into his mind, making him a weapon of mass destruction.".
Sam knew he was hiding something. "What else is there?". Fifth sighed. "She made Conrad her consort.". Outside Sam's mind, everyone was shocked. Tobias then kicked a table over. Back inside, Sam was crying. "What?". Fifth then held his hand out. "I can show you him.". Sam took his hand and she was then inside what looks like a room, she saw Conrad sitting on a bench sharpening a sword. Apparently he couldn't see her, she learn that when she called out for him but nothing happened. The doors opened and a human-form replicator came in. "Conrad, the collective is here for you.". Conrad sighed. "Bring her in.". Replicator Carter came in. "What are you doing?" she asked. Conrad stood up and walked to the window, gazing into the space. Sam then realized he was on a ship. Conrad spoke to the double. "Thinking.". The Replicator then approached him. "About us?" she asked.
Sam was gagging. Conrad didn't move. But he could sense another presence in the room. But he spoke. "No, about my origins. My memory is unclear, I only remember waking up on that table, kneeling and swearing my legions to you.". Replicator Carter nodded. "That was the day you were created.". Conrad crossed his arms. "Then how come I am flesh and blood like humans?". Replicator Carter answered. "You are part of the next generation of Replicators.". Conrad turned around again. "Why me? Why did you chose me as your consort? I am more human then machine, you are just machine, that waves a few red flags if you ask me.".
Sam couldn't anymore, she broke the connection. Sam got out of the chair and hugged the nearest person, who turned out to be McKay. McKay hugged her but didn't move. Tobias knelt next to her. "We will get Conrad back, I bet my life on it.".
