Dima awoke to an empty room who's floor was covered in hay, and mud. His arm and legs were tied to the wooden chair he was sitting on. The only light that peeped into the dark room was a thin slit to his right that ran the length of the wall. Dima sat in his cold stone cell, alone.
To him it seemed like Minerva may have had enough of his shit and decided not to give him his arm back. It was reasonable to him after all, he'd forced her to save him twice already because of idiocy.
His thoughts rambled on. He took the time to think about all that's happened. Dima had always relied on his using brute force to make his way through these past 10 years of fighting. But where he was now was because of his over reliance on his strength and ignoring tactics, planning and the like, and succumbing to his hatred.
His thoughts were cut short by the rattle of keys and the thin metal door that trapped him in the room opened. A clean shaven man with short hair that flowed forward approached.
"I'm surprised you haven't tried to escape, you seem strong enough to have broken the rope binding you to that chair," He said jokingly. "Well sir, my name is Orys, leader of the Hoshin mercenaries stationed here. You know what the Hos…".
"Yes,". Dima interrupted.
"Ah well then, we've been hired to be the town guards while the lord of the Einshold and the lord of the Dreishold have a quarrel you could say. Something that I have no interest in and I'm sure you don't either. What I want to know is why you came into my town and killed a man in not only cold blood, but in a house of god,".
"There was a bounty for him set out by a Lugnican lord, it was enough to make coming here worthwhile," Dima responded.
"He was the priest of that chapel, he has a wife you know,".
"So, it's my job as a mercenary to do as I'm paid,".
"I can see you've lived a life of pain and loneliness, you came here by yourself and killed a man with no care for what happened to yourself. You are a man with nothing. Why let a priest harm you so,".
Dima's urge to say he was no ordinary priest rose up within him, but he uttered "I didn't expect him to defend himself so well and got caught off guard," instead.
"A true warrior never plays down their opponent, I may be young but I have studied the way of the knight, and like many of my men who guard I try to help them improve themselves. Many of my men have been in the situation you are in now,".
"I don't have an arm, I can't use my weapon,".
"If you choose to join us, I will have a surgeon come out to create a mount for your arm and provide you with a wooden prosthetic,".
"All that for one soldier?".
"I believe you will be more than one soldier in value, you'll be worth 100 once we are eventually sent into battle,". Orys then squatted down to eye level with Dima. "What do you say?".
" How much will my pay be?".
"As much as you want, to a reasonable extent of course,".
"I'll join you, and your company of Hoshin," Dima uttered.
"That's great to hear," Orys shouted as he went to untie Dima's bindings. Once he was untied Dima stood, Orys held out his hand, and they shook on their new deal. "Sir, what's your name?".
"Dima,".
"What's your family's name?".
"Kurzemnieks," Dima Awkwardly, as he'd never been asked his surname in years.
"You're an Arazi aren't you? Were you in The Legion?".
"Nope,".
"That's interesting. Well Dima, let's get your uniform ready and introduce you to the rest of Orys' Detachment of the Hoshin Company!". Orys excitedly led Dima out of the makeshift dungeon that was the stable of Einshold and out into the keep's courtyard.
Author's Note: Born to shit, Forced to wipe. Also, this part took quite a bit to fully get the idea for cause my creative processcan be simply described as "Wack as hell".
