Chapter Six
The walk back to Maura's apartment was done in comfortable silence. The two women held hands the entire time.
A few minutes after they had left the park, they entered a residential building in Manhattan where Maura lead Jane to the 12th floor.
"Welcome to my home," she said as she gestured for Jane to enter the apartment.
Jane walked in slowly and admired her surroundings. The honey blonde's apartment was decorated tastefully. It looked tasteful and modern with various pieces of art covering the walls. The spacious apartment was open plan with a small entryway that lead into the living room and the kitchen at the far end of the room. There was a hallway to the left where Jane assumed the bedroom or bedrooms were.
"Would you like something to drink?" Came Maura's voice again while Jane was admiring a particular piece of art on the wall.
"Oh, yes please. You have a great place, by the way," Jane said as she followed Maura to the kitchen.
"Thank you, Jane. What would you like to have? I have red wine and bourbon," Maura smiled at the brunette while she moved to one of the cabinets to take out some glasses.
"I'll have some wine please," Jane said making a face.
"Next time I'll have some beer for you," Maura said smiling, remembering that Jane had mentioned it being her choice of drink.
"Or I could just bring it along when I visit again," Jane shrugged.
"That works too," Maura smiled as she sauntered over to where Jane was sitting at the kitchen island. She handed the brunette a glass. "Would you like to go sit on the sofa?"
"Thanks," Jane smiled accepting the wine and nodded before walking after Maura towards the couch. The sway in Maura's hips did not go unnoticed.
"So, what do you usually do in the evenings when you don't have company?" Jane spoke again once they were seated on the couch. She made sure to sit as close to the blonde as she could.
"You're assuming I have company over a lot?" Maura asked with a shy smile.
"I don't know. Do you?" Jane smirked.
"No, I don't. I prefer to spend my evenings either writing or reading," Maura moved to place her glass on the coffee table in front of them.
"That's interesting," Jane commented before taking a gulp of her wine. "I usually just lay on the couch and watch sports."
"You know, I really didn't invite you over expecting anything," Maura said after watching Jane take a gulp of her wine.
"No, I know," Jane said quickly. "I guess I don't want you to think that I expect something or anything."
Maura didn't answer Jane immediately, instead she took the glass from the brunette's hand and placed it next to her's on the coffee table. She moved a little bit closer to Jane.
"Can I ask you something?" she finally spoke.
Jane simply nodded.
"Earlier, in the park... did you want to kiss me?" Maura asked.
"I didn't know if it was okay..." Jane could smell the honey blonde. They once again found themselves to close to each other, their lips nearly touching.
"It's okay," Maura whispered against Jane's lips before placing a tentative kiss on the brunette's lips, pulling back slightly to look at her reaction.
Jane smiled before closing the gap between their lips again, slipping her hand into the honey blonde's hair. This kiss was a little more forceful than the first. She felt Maura's hand caress her bicep and used her other hand to pull the honey blonde closer.
Maura let out a grunt at the slightly uncomfortable position and quickly moved to straddle Jane. The brunette's hands immediately taking hold of Maura's hips.
"Is this okay?" Maura asked, breaking the kiss.
The brunette answered by initiating another kiss, Maura's hands flew into her hair immediately.
The pair sat like that, exploring each other's mouths for a few minutes before Jane shifted her mouth to kiss down Maura's neck. The honey blonde threw her head back and rested her hands on Jane's shoulders before letting out a soft moan. Her hips instinctively grinding against the body below her as Jane's hands moved to her ass.
"God, your skin is soft," Jane mumbled.
"I moisturise," Maura giggled when Jane started nipping under her left ear and slipped her hands under the honey blonde's shirt.
They gradually started slowing down, foreheads resting together as they tried to catch their breath.
"You're so beautiful," Jane whispered.
"So are you," Maura placed a small kiss on Jane's lips intending for it to be brief but Jane deepened the kiss again, lifting the blonde slightly.
There was a quick shift on the couch and Maura found herself on her back, Jane hovering over her. They continued kissing until Jane shifted again, resting her weight on her left hand to run the other over Maura's body but then her arm started buckling sending her tumbling down onto Maura.
The fall was unexpected, so their heads bumped each other sending Jane flying off the couch.
"Jesus! Fuck!" Jane shouted when she landed.
Maura was off the couch, kneeling next to Jane immediately. "Jane. Are you okay?"
"Am I okay? Are you okay?!" Jane shouted.
"I'm fine. Why are you shouting?" Maura asked confused.
"I'm sorry..." Jane ran a hand through her hair and stood up from the ground. "I guess the angle was weird and my arm gave out."
"That's okay," Maura said now also standing.
When Jane made no attempt to move or say anything again, Maura placed her hand on her arm.
"Are you okay?" she asked again.
"I'm fine," Jane answered quickly. "I think I should go," she said picking up her jacket she forgot taking off in the first place and headed to the front door.
"Wait," Maura walked after her confused. "What just happened?"
"Nothing," Jane sighed, looking away.
"Jane..." the honey blonde stepped closer to Jane, trying to catch her eyes.
"I'm sorry. It's late. I should go," Jane tried again.
"Do you regret what just happened?" Maura asked with tears forming in her eyes.
"What? No," Jane finally made eye contact. "That was perfect... you're perfect."
"Will you tell me what's bothering you then?" Maura was relieved that Jane didn't regret kissing her but something was obviously bothering the brunette.
"It's nothing," she said again, her eyes shifting to the floor.
Maura was at a loss, she didn't know why Jane wanted to leave so suddenly. She wanted the brunette to stay.
"Jane..." she tried again.
Jane sighed and leaned against the door. She really liked Maura and had enjoyed her time with the woman but she was also embarrassed about what had just happened. She had obviously misjudged the angle and the amount of pressure she was putting on her arm. It killed the mood and she didn't want to bring Maura down or ruin the otherwise perfect day they had.
"Why don't we sit down again?" Maura tried again. "You don't have to tell me what's bothering you but please know that everything was perfect."
"Even my bum of an arm?" Jane let out a sarcastic laugh.
Oh. Thought Maura.
"Oh, Jane. It's completely normal for such an injury," she said moving forward to run a hand down the brunette's arm.
"I know," Jane sighed again. "I guess I'm just frustrated. I wanted this day to stay perfect."
Maura leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on Jane's lips, then her cheek and ended on her forehead.
"Nothing you could possibly do would make this day any less perfect than it already has been," she said softly.
Jane smiled and leaned down to kiss the honey blonde again, pulling her closer by her hips and deepening the kiss. When Maura let out a soft moan, Jane pulled back and rested their foreheads together.
"I really should go..." Jane said before softly kissing Maura again.
"If you must," Maura mumbled against her soft lips.
"Oh I do," Jane laughed and pulled Maura in for a hug. "But if you're not busy, I'd like to see you again tomorrow?"
"Of course," Maura agreed, hugging Jane tighter.
"I'll text you about tomorrow," Jane said pulling away from the honey blonde.
They shared one more kiss before Jane made her way out of the apartment. She winked at Maura over her shoulder and whispered a soft, "Goodnight Maur."
AN: I'm sorry for the delay! I'll try and post again soon!
