Trying to Stay Positive

G5P0

Naruto and Sasuke love their lives.

Naruto wakes up with Sasuke in his arms. He tries to initiate round two and today Sasuke lets him. The two spend tender moments this morning basking in the growing sunlight and each warm other's embrace. There's barely any time to clean up so Sasuke joins him in the shower. The raven almost laughs at how fast the blond can chug down a cup of instant ramen. The two walk to the Hokage's office together. Sasuke lets Naruto hold his hand the entire way there.

Naruto attends to the Hokage's duties. Sasuke keeps the streets safe. They have lunch together with Kakashi and Sakura. Sasuke comes back to the office at 5:00 PM to pick Naruto up for dinner. The two enjoy a nice meal of Sasuke's homemade udon as Naruto chats about the upcoming chunin exams and Sasuke talks about the security plans for the village.

That night, Naruto and Sasuke are especially passionate. They explore each other's bodies as if it's their very first time. Blue eyes meet black ones as they come together in perfect harmony. After all is said and done, Sasuke sleeps curled up on Naruto's chest. Yes, they are happy.

Important events in Naruto and Sasuke's relationship tended to involve alcohol. Tonight was no exception.

Naruto and Sasuke sway back and forth as they make their way home from the party. The whole village was celebrating a successful conclusion to the chunin exams. As for Naruto, he just wanted to celebrate Sasuke foiling a plot against the Leaf Village amidst the commotion of such a large collaborative event. He's not quite sure how they managed to get all the way up to their room without falling once.

They collapse onto the bed fully clothed. The blond and his raven are giggling about God knows what. Maybe it's the alcohol. In truth, Sasuke's not actually drunk. But Naruto's radiant smile, carefree laughter and happy-go-lucky attitude is infectious. Maybe it's the fact the fact that they had pulled off the impossible. More importantly, maybe it's the fact that they had done it together. Blue eyes meet onyx ones. Sasuke recognizes that look. The look that says Naruto is planning something stupid.

"Hey Sasuke, wanna do something stupid?" Naruto says, confirming Sasuke's suspicions. But Sasuke is too happy to care. Too in love to mind. Maybe he prefers his Uzumaki that way.

"...Yeah sure, why not?"

"Woooooow," Naruto gawks, his expressiveness more exaggerated than ever under the influence of the alcohol. "Wow Sasuke-kun is in such a giving mood!"

"Don't make me change my mind."

Naruto grins. The blond slinks his arms around his lover, nuzzling into him. "Wanna do the Sexy-no-Jutsu? Just...for fun?"

A sober Sasuke would have said 'no'. But tonight Sasuke is drunk, intoxicated by how much he loves Naruto. How Naruto pushes when Sasuke pulls. How Naruto is the only thing Sasuke will ever need. Okay...just this once.

And like that, Sasuke is pregnant again.

At 37 weeks, Sasuke is so large he can't even see his feet anymore. He runs out of breath halfway up the stairs. At 37 weeks, the pregnancy is at term and Sasuke should feel secure but he doesn't. This time there is no morning sickness, no swollen legs, no headaches. This time, they don't inquire about the sex of the fetus when they go to their anatomic ultrasound. As long as it has ten fingers and ten toes then Sasuke is happy. This time, he and Naruto do not discuss baby names. Sasuke's afraid of getting attached.

He is so close to being done but he worries that he won't make it to the finish line. It's times like this that he wishes his mother was still alive so that she could give him advice. Was she terrified when she gave birth to her first child? Did it hurt? Sasuke thought he knew pain. This journey taught him that he didn't really. Well it must not have been that bad since he was her second child after all.

Sasuke wonders if he'll be a good parent. Will he be like father? He remembers being in awe of his father. Fugaku always pushed him to do better, to constantly excel. He looks down to survey his changing body. It's not just his belly that has grown in size. His breasts in the oiroke form are now swollen with milk in preparation for the… Sasuke muses, 'I guess more accurately, will I be like mother?'. He remembers how kind his mother was. She was always looking out for him even when he wasn't looking out for himself. He still remembers his chest swelling up with pride when his mother told him in confidence that he was all his father talked about in private.

His mind turns to the last pivotal person in his childhood. It's at times like these that he misses Itachi. Itachi, who loved Sasuke so much that he couldn't bear to kill him after he killed everyone else. But that's not how Sasuke remembers his older brother. He remembers the Aniki who would take time out of his busy schedule to teach him shuriken jutsu. The big brother who would play hide and seek with him in the woods surrounding the Uchiha compound. Nii-san, who would sleep next to him under the stars. The same Itachi that would carry him on his back when the occasion called for it. Sasuke chuckles, wondering if the occasion came more often than was actually warranted. "I love you, big brother," Sasuke whispers into the wind.

Suddenly his head falls back as if someone poked his forehead. Sasuke looks around but no one is there.

The pain wakes Sasuke up from sleep. It's nothing that he's ever experienced before. Previously the pain has been instant. Sharp. This time it's slow growing like waves. Sasuke rides the wave. The waves become progressively larger, progressively more frequent. Naruto is still fast asleep. Sasuke appreciates that his husband is such a deep sleeper because that means he can stare as much as he wants. In between waves, he studies his beloved's face. He admires Naruto's tanned skin, the deep whiskers and his full lips. The only thing missing when Naruto's asleep like this are those beautiful blue eyes. Like the calmest waters.

"Naruto," Sasuke whispers. He repeats himself after his first attempt fails to rouse his slumbering husband.

Eventually Naruto starts to stir. "Huh?" the blond replies groggily.

Sasuke smiles, "It's time."

Yes, there is pain. Yes, it is unlike any pain he's ever experienced before. Yes, the pain gets worse and worse. But Sasuke doesn't scream. Despite all his posturing that he's an Uzumaki now, in the end, he's an Uchiha to his very core and Uchihas do not complain. He doesn't realize how tightly he's gripping the rails of his bed until they almost snap in half. Naruto holds out his hand and Sasuke takes it.

"Breath," Naruto tells him.

"Breathe," Sakura tells him.

"Breathe," he tells himself.

The pain goes on like this for hours on end and still the Uchiha doesn't say a word. He doesn't ask what's happening. He doesn't ask when it will all be over. He merely rides the wave.

"Push," Sakura tells him.

"Push," Naruto tells him.

"Push," he tells himself.

All of a sudden it's...over. The pain stops. What happened? He looks down to see something in Sakura's hands. It doesn't make a sound. Is it dead? Then black eyes look up at him and Sasuke has never seen anything quite so perfect. A hard smack from Sakura causes a lusty cry to break the silence in the room.

"Congratulations!" Sakura announces as she lays the babe on Sasuke's chest. Naruto has tears streaming down his face as he kisses Sasuke over and over again. Sasuke doesn't quite register when Naruto tells him 'you did it' but what he does hear loud and clear is...

"It's a boy!"

Kakashi visits his two former pupils in the hospital before Sasuke is discharged home. As per usual, he doesn't bother to knock. For once, he wishes he did. He stumbles upon a scene of Sasuke cradling his newborn son as the baby suckles at his breast while Naruto holds his two favourite people in his arms. He looks at his two former students and sees utter contentment etched on both their faces. It's a scene so intimate that Kakashi wonders whether he should have ever even seen it.

"Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto calls out when he's finally alerted to his teacher's presence. He waves at him with his free hand. Feeling that now was a safe time to approach, the grey haired man takes a few steps closer to get a better look at his new godson. The boy's white skin contrasts sharply against Naruto's tanned hands. He has a tuft of jet black hair atop his head. The child stares at him with dark, piercing eyes. The boy is every inch an Uchiha.

"Do you have a name for him?" their sensei asks after having given the boy a thorough look over.

Naruto is all smiles as he nods, grinning from ear to ear. Even Sasuke is smiling.

"Itachi," they say together.
