Everything Was Perfect - The Next Day.
The next morning, Joseph laid blissfully happy as the woman he loved more than anything in the world, and hoped to one day marry, lie fast asleep with her head resting on his chest and her arm wrapped round his waist. They had been at the lake house for two days so far, but in that short time he had found himself being amazed over how different she was and how much she had changed. It's like she was a completely different person, showing a rare glimpse of the real woman behind the Queen mask. The rare glimpse that only a select few get to see, and it made him love her even more, if that was even possible.
Smiling to himself now, he wrapped his arm around her shoulders lovingly and kissed the top of her head softly before closing his eyes and thinking back to last night - their time out in the hot tub together and how adventurous she had been before coming back in where they spent most of the night making love before falling to sleep snuggled in each others warm embrace. If only they could stay there together like that forever, in each other's arms, but he knew it had to come to an end once they returned back to the palace tomorrow.
"Joseph, not out here," Clarisse giggled as he pulled her closer for her to straddle his lap in the water, "I'm not that adventurous, yet," she smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I know, and I'm not suggesting we do such things out here," he chuckled while smoothing his hands up her bare back and studied her face. "I just wanted a moment to hold you," he said, drinking in her beautiful features with his eyes, memorising her gorgeous face a moment before moving his head closer and kissing her.
"Mmm," Clarisse moaned and tipped her head to the side as he began to trail kisses across her jaw and down into the curve of her neck. Biting her bottom lip, she could feel his arousal hard against her. "Joseph?" She whispered.
"Yes," he said softly against the spot on her neck where he had left a small mark the night before and continued kissing across the front of her shoulder.
"I think we need to go back inside before we get to carried away," she said and watched as he pulled his head back to look into her eyes.
Smoothing his hands back down her back and onto her sides, he gently pushed her backwards off his lap and watched as she stood before him. "Sei così bella," he said seductively, watching as a breath hitched in her throat. "Stay there," he said, quickly climbing out of the hot tub and grabbing a towel for her.
"Thank you," she smiled, a shiver running through her back, as she stepped closer to him and studied his face as he wrapped the towel around her shoulders before putting one hand up, to hold the towel in place.
"You go on in, I'll grab our drinks and follow you in," Joseph said as he took her free hand and helped her carefully step out of the hot tub.
"Ok," she nodded and watched him walk around to the other side of the hot tub to get their drinks before she made her way inside.
It was in that moment that he realised her breathing had changed. "Good morning," he said softly and smiled as she tipped her head back to look up at him.
"Good morning," she smiled sleepily and rested her head back on his chest.
"How did you sleep?" He asked and grinned as she laughed lightly against his chest.
"Good," she smiled while moving her hand from his waist up to rest on his chest in front of her face, "what I got of it."
"That's good," he smiled, "well today is Sunday and our last full day here, so before we have to return to reality tomorrow, why don't we make the most of it and stay in bed all day. We could sleep, make love and lie in each other's arms."
"That sounds like the perfect way to spend the day," Clarisse smiled as she tipped her head back to look up at him once again and reached her hand up to cup his face.
"God, I love waking up with you by my side," he said, wrapping his arms around her and kissed her while rolling her onto her back before looking down into her eyes. "I wish we didn't have to go back."
"Me too," she said and closed her eyes as he took her lips in a slow, hungry kiss, while smoothing his hand around to her hip, giving it a squeeze before lifting the sheet and gently climbing on top of her.
But hearing a knock on the bedroom door just a moment later, Joseph stopped kissing her neck and chest and raised himself to look down into Clarisse's eyes as she moved her hand closer to her face. "Shh," she said, pressing her forefinger to her lips before putting her hand on his shoulder. "Pretend we are still asleep," she whispered and tried to stifle a laugh as Joseph buried his face in the crook of her neck.
But then another knock came to the door, a more frantic knock this time.
"Not now," Clarisse exclaimed and gasped as Joseph started kissing across her chest, "Joseph stop," she whispered, giggling as he nuzzled her neck.
"Clarisse, I'm really sorry but I think you are going to want to see this," Sabrina said from the other side of the bedroom door, "I think you both will."
"Alright, hold on," Clarisse called out, exasperated, and let out a sigh as Joseph reluctantly rolled onto his back on the bed beside her. "I know, but we can finish what we started in a minute."
"Yeah, it's fine," Joseph said and watched as Clarisse climbed from the bed and slipped on her robe. "I'm just thankful we weren't making love yet, it wouldn't have been so easy to stop if we were."
"I know," Clarisse said and bit her bottom lip as she turned to him lying on the bed, the sheets pulled tight around his waist.
"You go on and I'll be out in a minute," he smiled while tucking one of his hands under his head.
"Alright," she smiled, tying the sash of her robe and trying not to laugh as she averted her gaze down his body briefly before looking back up at his face. "Need a pillow?" She smirked and put her hands on her hips.
"That's not funny," Joseph laughed and chucked one of her pillows at her, watching as she caught it and started laughing. "You better go and see what she wants you so desperately for."
"Yes, alright," she said and began walking over to the door before stopping and turning back to him still lying on the bed, "try not to be too long though, the quicker we get out to see what she wants, the quicker we can get back to continue what we started."
"Hey, cheeky," Joseph exclaimed and started laughing as he chucked his pillow across the room at her stood laughing by the door.
"Ok, I'm here," Clarisse said as she walked out into the suite a moment later and folded her arms, "what's so Important that you needed to see us now?"
"I'm so sorry to be the one to do this, but..." Sabrina said as she looked at her before turning to look over at her husband stepping out of the way of the television.
Looking over and seeing a picture of her and Joseph from the balcony last night, Clarisse gasped and put her hands up to her face. "Oh no," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
"What's going on?" Joseph asked as he came into the room and stood beside Clarisse, "what's the matter?" He asked and looked up at Sabrina and Harry. But his gaze fell on the television instead.
They all stood in stunned silence as the news anchor reported the story of them being spotted together intimately as several photos of them out on the balcony last night appeared on the screen. One was of them when her head was resting on her arms on the edge of the hot tub as Joseph kissed along the back of her shoulders, one of her when she had turned to him in the hot tub, another when he had pulled her into his lap as she wrapped her arms around his neck and one when she was stood up with her bare back to the camera, right before he wrapped the towel around her shoulders and they both disappeared back inside.
"Oh no no no," Joseph said in shock as Clarisse moved over to one of the armchairs and slowly sat down in it while pressing a hand to her chest as the news anchor started talking to their guest, Raphael, an Genovian journalist.
"I think it's important to remember that they have been friends for as long as everyone can remember and he's been a constant figure in her life as not only her bodyguard but as her best friend too," Raphael said, "and you'll remember that there was a story a couple days after Prince Philippe's wedding back in September, where her Royal highness was seen entering the hospital to visit Mr Elizondo after it was alleged he had been involved in a car accident."
"Yes we remember," nodded the news anchor.
"Well several photos had been taken at that time and I never noticed until this story came about when I was looking back at them, that you can see in one of the photos that the Queen wasn't actually wearing her wedding ring." Smirked Raphael as the photo appeared on the screen behind them sitting at the desk. "She was later seen at an event a few weeks later and she was wearing it again, but it makes you wonder what was going on."
"That's really interesting," said the news anchor, "because a source who had attended the wedding reported for us that she and the King looked very happy together during the celebrations, there was no tension at all between them."
"Yes, and then she was seen not wearing her wedding ring just days later… which raises the question if this is a new affair or if it's been going on longer than we all think," Raphael said. "If so, how long?"
"Turn it off, please," Clarisse said, her head was spinning as she rested her elbows on her knees and covered her face in her hands a long agonising moment before looking up at Joseph. They had been so careful since they went into the relationship two and a half years ago, so how could this have happened now, and who was the person behind the photos? "Was it you?" Clarisse suddenly asked as she slowly rose to her feet, "did you tip them off and set me up?"
"Excuse me?" Joseph exclaimed in surprise as Harry and Sabrina looked at one another. "No I didn't set you up, how could you even suggest that."
"Well you are the one who suggested that we go out into the hot tub last night, in return, getting the perfect shot to show the world we are together." Clarisse said coldly as she folded her arms.
"I beg your pardon," Joseph snapped in frustration, "do you really think I would do that to you? To us?"
Shaking her head, Clarisse said nothing. She was angry, hurt and heartbroken over what she had just seen on the news. She knew in her heart that it wouldn't have been him, and it hurt her deeply that she even accused him. But who else could it be? Who else knew that she was even there. "Or was it one of you," she said as she glanced over at Harry and Sabrina.
"Clarisse please, none of us did this," Joseph said, trying to remain calm, and watched as she just walked into the bedroom and slammed the door shut behind her. "I don't believe this," Joseph said as he looked at Sabrina and Harry. "I'm so sorry that she just accused you both too."
"Don't be sorry, we get she's angry," Sabrina said softly. "I would be too if it was me."
"Why don't you go talk to her," Harry suggested. "Make sure she's okay."
"Yes, I think I will," Sabrina said and looked over at Joseph, "unless you want to go in and see her?"
"I don't think she really wants to see me, do you?" Joseph said and shook his head. "So please, by all means go in and make sure she's alright."
"Alright," Sabrina said sadly as she walked over to the bedroom door. "I won't be long."
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Clarisse looked up as the door suddenly opened and Sabrina slowly emerged. "Do you really think that any of us would do this to you, after everything you've been through just to get this far?" She said as she closed the door behind her and walked over to sit next to her friend on the bed.
"No, I don't," Clarisse said and shook her head as she began to cry, "and I'm sorry I accused you, it's just no one else knows where we are and it's left me doubting everything after seeing that on the news."
"It's ok, we know you're angry, we would be too," Sabrina said as Clarisse pulled a couple tissues from the tissue box on the bedside table. "But have you forgotten that we see a couple people when we were returning on the boat yesterday, I know we hid you but maybe they recognised Joseph and decided to hang around in the hope of getting a picture."
Nodding, Clarisse looked down at the tissue she now held in both her hands. "That would be the more logical answer," she said and put one hand up to her mouth, "I'm so sorry again for accusing you and Harry," she cried.
"Don't be sorry, it's okay," Sabrina said softly while wrapping her arm around her friends shoulders and pulled her closer for her to rest her head on her shoulder. "It's all going to be alright, you'll see."
"I think I need to call home, they would have seen the news by now," Clarisse said as she sat back up several moments later and put her hand up onto her forehead, suddenly feeling extremely nervous.
"Ok, do you want me to stay with you?" Sabrina asked and watched as Clarisse shook her head. "Ok, well I'm right out that door if you need me, alright?" She said while standing to her feet and turning to her still sitting on the bed. "And so is Joseph."
"Thank you," Clarisse said as Sabrina leant in and kissed her forehead.
"It's what friends are for," Sabrina said and made her way over to the door before stopping to look back at Clarisse as she picked up the phone.
Seeing the door open, both Harry and Joseph rose to their feet and watched as Sabrina emerged, while pulling the door closed behind her. "Did you talk to her?" Joseph asked.
"Yes," Sabrina nodded as she walked over to them and folded her arms, "she's apologised but is very upset."
"And she has every right to be," Harry exclaimed, "whoever done this needs locking up. It's an invasion of privacy!"
"It is," Sabrina said and looked up at Joseph as he stood looking at the bedroom door.
"I should go be with her," Joseph said while looking at Sabrina. "Make sure she's alright."
"She was calling home when I came out, so I would leave her be for a bit," Sabrina said and watched as Joseph nodded before moving to stand looking out of the french doors leading to the balcony.
