Epilogue

Elsa was once again on her way to Ahtohallan as she had done countless times before, in fact she had lost count of how many times she had made this trip over the years, but she had enjoyed every single one of them. Amazingly, she always managed to learn something new with each trip she made and the conversations she had with the previous Fifth Spirits sharing their experiences over time.

However, this visit would be different and it would be very special. It was a day she knew had been coming for some time and she still wasn't sure if she was ready for it. But there was pride and joy in her heart as she made this particular trip and her eyes lit up even more than usual when she saw the glacier of Ahtohallan. Elsa could feel her smile that she had as this date with destiny approached.

Her life had been wonderful over the years with love and fulfillment, she still ran into Hans every now and then with his family and they had built a good friendship. That was something Elsa was proud of that she had helped Hans find a happy life. Of course, she still enjoyed seeing Anna who had been such a wonderful Queen for Arendelle and Kristoff who had been a wonderful husband to her.

Then there were her two nieces and nephew that she loved spending time with whenever she visited Arendelle and Friday night was still games night with everyone, especially Olaf. After many years of practice Elsa had finally become proficient in charades and her and Anna now won their fair share of the contests. Also, her nieces and nephew loved her showing off her powers to them, especially in the warmer months where they could go ice skating, have snowball fights and build their own snowmen.

Her face beamed with these thoughts as she approached Ahtohallan on the Nokk and she was bursting with anticipation for her meeting with Kirste today. As usual the Nokk took her to the shore and it didn't take her long to make her way through the entrance and towards the Hall of Memories, she paused in the Grand Hallway for a few seconds at the entrance to the Hall of Memories.

After a moment, she walked into the Hall of Memories and it came alive with memories of which there were many new memories here from all the years since she had been the Fifth Spirit, even the time where they found Hans here and Kirste revealed the memory of his mother to him. They were all special memories that made her emotional just looking at them and she was about to add another very special one.

The image of Kirste, the first Fifth Spirit appeared on the wall.

"Hello Elsa," she said, "what have you got for me today?"

"Hello Kirste," said Elsa, choking up with emotion as her pride was bursting, "today is a very special day."

Elsa motioned towards the entrance of the Hall of Memories where she had paused before entering for someone to enter. A young woman appeared, about eighteen years of age, looking very much like Elsa except with slightly darker hair.

As she approached Elsa, she said one word "Mother?"

The two embraced warmly and Elsa kissed her on the forehead and then turned her towards the image of Kirste.

"Kirste," she started, "I would like you to introduce you to my first-born daughter Iduna," she then looked at Iduna with love, "today is her eighteenth birthday and she is here to commence her journey to become the next Fifth Spirit."

The End

Author's Note

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for your comments on the story and hope you enjoyed reading it. The idea for this story was a long time coming as I have always been interested in doing a Hans back story to try and make sense of his actions in Frozen.

The fact that he was the youngest of thirteen boys and how he described that three of his brothers made him feel he was invisible for a couple of years did give me starting point, plus, as I was the youngest of three brothers. I able to use some of my own experiences as a reference. Though, the kidding never went anywhere near as far as I portrayed here in the story.

So, it wasn't hard to imagine he got a lot of bullying and mistreatment from twelve older brothers, so I expanded on the three of his brothers to all of his brothers making him feel like he was invisible. It was easy to assume that Hans lied about that too.

Then, as we never heard about his mother, I threw in that his mother died when he was only nine months old and that his brothers blamed and despised him for that, even though he actually had nothing to do with it.

The death of his mother also deeply affected his father to the point where he lost a lot of control on his sons and didn't intervene like he should have. Actually, the idea for his mother's death came from Tyrion's mother dying in childbirth in Game of Thrones and how he was despised by his father and sister in that show and blamed for her death.

As for the idea of the Fifth Spirit being passed down from generation to generation, well the scenes in Frozen 2 after Elsa tamed Brunei and then when the scarf was revealed and them being told that it belongs to one of the Northuldra's oldest families made me surmise that the Fifth Spirit could be hereditary. Then when Anna and Elsa announced that their mother was Northuldra, the Northuldra knew she was the Fifth Spirit, hence why they broke into that celebratory song in order to welcome the new Fifth Spirit.

I must admit the ending of the story evolved as I wrote it, which I imagine for those of you who written stories have experienced the same thing where you don't know really how the story will end when you initially first start writing it. For those of you who were hoping for Helsa, I hope you're not too disappointed.

Anyway, I have started work on a new story, this one placed in modern times where the history of Arendelle, Elsa and Ahtohallan are now myth and legend except for a young nearly eighteen-year-old girl named Sonja who is Elsa's direct descendent. The story is titled Frozen the Return of The Brennevin, Brennevin being Norwegian for spirits and it basically will be about how a new powerful Fifth Spirit combined with Ahtohallan will deal with the effects of climate change that is of course threatening Ahtohallan.

Speaking of Norwegian, all the names like Kirste, Diina and Rigga were a product of my research for traditional Sammi names for girls as the Northuldra, as you all know are based on the Sammi People of Lapland.

Another story I would like to pursue is in the Tangled universe and for those who have watched Tangled the Series, it would revolve around Cassandra trying to find her birth father. Now come on, a lot of people have got to be curious as to who dated Mather Goethel in order for Cassandra to be born.

Anyway, again, thanks to everyone who read and who commented, and again I hoped you have enjoyed the story as much as I did writing it. May your wishes all come true.
