Thank you to the other fanfic writers, your beautiful stories are so inspiring and have got me through the end of semester. Now exams are done, i am back!
This chapter has a bit of a different format, but i found it a good way to get back into this story and writing these characters. Hope you enjoy!
"Please tell me you are coming"
"Hi Meredith, I am having a great day, thank you for asking. Did you enjoy your day off?" Cormac says, answering his phone with a smirk.
"Oh, shut up. I am stressed out, Maggie apparently thinks it is ok to invite half the hospital over for dinner with less than a days' notice, and since she, Amelia and Link are working both today and tomorrow, it is on me and Winston to organise. Winston is lovely by the way, but this is only my first time meeting him! And I am busy prepping for pizza night tonight."
"A true Meredith ramble" Cormac replies, pulling a chuckle and a small smile from Meredith. "One question, and it will decide whether I come or not, are you cooking?"
"You will be happy to know that Winston is a saint and has offered to do the cooking, I just have to somehow clean up this mess of a house on my own, but that isn't why I called you. Every time we have a dinner party, some drama or tension happens, I mean one time Callie brought her date who turned out to be the resident who treated Derek in his accident. It is unlikely to reach that level of crazy at this one, but either way, I need backup! Bailey is bringing Ben and the boys, so your boys would have company" Meredith says pleading.
"Relax Grey, I was going to come anyways, was just teasing. After hearing that though, I will definitely bring a spare bottle of whiskey for us to disappear with when everything goes up in flames."
"Thank you! You are a saint. So, how was your shift anyways? Any idiot teenagers to treat today? Despite the crazy shift yesterday I am starting to feel the surgery withdrawal so regale me with the adventures over in med-land while I pick up all my children's toys, which I definitely asked them to pick up before bed last night, but that is another story."
Cormac laughs, before starting to tell her in non-specific terms the highlights of his day.
"We're home!" Maggie calls as she and Amelia walk in the door Friday evening.
"It's about time" Meredith replies, running over. "Both of you, showers, then you" she says pointing at Maggie, "are going to help your man finish cooking, while you" she says pointing at Amelia" are going to get your kid fed and snacks laid out, while I, take a break from this zoo and go buy the ice for drinks. Ok? All your guests are arriving in half an hour at 6 so get a move on!" Meredith finishes, pointing at Maggie again.
"Understood" Amelia replies as Meredith pushes them both towards the stairs.
"I'm running an errand quickly, so ask you aunts or Winston if you need anything while I'm out" Meredith says, poking her head into the study turned playroom.
"Is there vege sticks for raffle?" Ellis asks earnestly.
"Aunty Amelia is making the snack platters so why don't you ask her to make sure there are some" Meredith replies with a fond smile. "I love you guys, won't be long!" Meredith calls out, grabbing her purse as she walks out the front door.
"How's the madhouse going? You killed your sisters yet?" Cormac says, calling Meredith on his drive home from work.
"Haha, very funny" Meredith says, putting the phone on speaker as she gets into her car. "I will have you know that I have managed to remain quite calm and have not even raised my voice at Amelia or Maggie today."
"Let me get this straight, you are peacefully coexisting while organising for a large gathering and Maggies over organisation or Amelia's mess haven't ticked you off yet?"
"Yes, we are all mature adults who can… oh get off your high horse, I did nothing wrong" Meredith shouts as a car honks at her.
"Meredith, are you in your car?" Cormac asks, incredulously.
"Maybe? I needed a break, so I volunteered to buy the ice for drinks" Meredith replies shrugging.
"Aha! Is it petty if I say I told you so?" Cormac replies, smirking.
"Ok, give me a break, have you ever tried to live with those two? They are insufferable. Now, did you just call to gloat about this disfunction of my family or was there something you wanted?"
"Ach, yes, I wanted to check if there was anything I could bring tonight?"
"Just alcohol, in Costco volumes, and maybe an escape car?" Meredith replies with a smile. "Thank you for checking, and in case I don't have the mental faculties to say this later, I'm glad you are coming tonight."
"I will let you in on a little secret, I'm looking forward to this. I didn't realise until that pizza night last week how much the boys and I were missing having a network of friends and family. Grey Sloan is quickly becoming my family and I am happy that my boys are being brought into that. Also, wouldn't miss the comedy of tonight if you paid me to" Cormac ends with a small laugh.
"Come on Jackson, hurry up!" Jo says, sticking her head into the ensuite bathroom at Jackson's penthouse.
"What's the hurry, Jo? I promise they won't start eating without you if that is what you are worried about" Jackson jokes, looking pointedly at Jo in the mirror.
"Remember the first one I went to, when I was just the intern and Alex's girlfriend? And every other time that Grey has hosted a dinner, pure comedy gold, I don't want to miss a second! If I have to stay sober for nugget, I want to get the most out the of entertainment" Jo says with pleading eyes.
"Fine, I'm almost done, but we will not be calling our child nugget so keep looking!" Jackson says with a fond smile.
"Fine, but I would like to see you help come up with a name or I will choose myself!" Jo states, flouncing out of the bedroom. "Harriet and I will be in the car, with my non-alcoholic beverages" she calls back over her shoulder.
Jackson chuckles, taking one last look in the mirror before turning off the light and making his way downstairs.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter, I am looking forward to continuing writing! Let me know what you think. xx
