UPDATE / NEW STORY
Around half a year ago, I became so excited for FNAF: Security Breach that I made a fanfic about two of the game's characters falling in love on a whim with a nobody character despite me knowing nothing about those two characters. Also, I was making it up as I went, so there's that. Then I put it on a site I'd frequented for YEARS. And then it kinda blew up.
Now, this is NOT me saying the praise is unwarranted, because I truly appreciate every favorite, every follow, every review I got. But I look at all of this, all these signs telling me "hey, go for it, man! You got this!"…
And I can't bring myself to accept it.
I tried. Honestly, I tried. I got about halfway through writing Chapter 2 (again making it up as I went), and went "Hey, wait a minute, does anyone really WANT this?!", because in its current state it's terrible. Connor gets shoehorned into working the day shift for the Funtime Carnival and Vanny just… materializes into existence. Then I stopped writing it because all problems from Chapter 1 remained: the pacing was all over the place, the romance felt awkward, the characters didn't feel distinct, etc. It was both creatively draining and just not fun. So, I abandoned it, content in letting my creation die.
That being said.
Security Breach then came out. I started to play it, and as of me writing this I'm still not done with it (I'm getting rather close, though), although I know enough through the internet that there are multiple endings. After seeing the "true" ending via a YouTube video after a pretty disastrous playing session (the Soundbooth mission where Freddy is standing on the stage can go die forever), however, something sparked in me. Inspiration. All the characters in the game have enough depth for me to work off of. Roxanne in particular has a character I thought would work well with a reworked Connor.
And I began work on a NEW STORY.
I don't know when chapter 1 will drop. I'm still writing it. However, it's different this time. The new story (name currently undecided) will be what I was kind of trying to make from the start of all of this. It follows a college student named Isaac (the aforementioned reworked Connor), who, after winning a raffle he never entered, wins a party room in a rebuilt PizzaPlex and becomes friends with Roxanne Wolf. After Isaac is granted the room permanently, he and Roxanne become closer.
Will there be romance? …Kind of. My main problem with Chicken Wolf Nightguard is that the romance felt awkward and forced. So, this new story will mainly be about Roxanne and Isaac becoming friends and growing close enough that they become inseparable. However, those two aren't the only friend pair. All the other robots gain friends as well. Yes, Freddy's is Gregory. When the time comes I'll decide if romance will fit or not.
Is it set in an AU? I'd call it an Alternate Continuation if anything. The events of Security Breach happened, but in the new story, set about 6 years later, a combination of the numerous endings of the game happened. The PizzaPlex burned down, but Freddy, Gregory, and Vanessa all escape. Vanny has been exorcised from Afton's influence. Afton is also dead due to Freddy and Gregory's actions. The PizzaPlex is rebuilt over the course of 4 years, adding some new party rooms and a lot more backstage areas. All other robots got rebuilt and are largely the exact same. There are no new animatronics added aside from the main Glamrock ones plus Sundrop/Moondrop (I'm debating whether I should give Sundrop/Moondrop a human friend as well. Any suggestions?) and DJ Music Man (yeah, he's not getting a friend. I couldn't come up with an idea that would work. Sorry). There will be a possibility for characters from other FNaF-fan works to cross over into this new story, but that's a story arc for future me to worry about.
So, what's going to happen with Chicken Wolf Nightguard? Well, I said it was writing practice, and I meant it. It was me testing the waters, even if that testing was 100% influenced by hype. I don't want to continue writing it due to the ending being self-contained enough, and just lack of enthusiasm to continue it. However, if any of you guys want to remake it or continue it or whatever then by all means go for it.
I don't really know how to end this, really, so I'll just leave you with some sneak-peak dialogue from the new story.
"So, you came here to study?"
"Yep," Isaac took another bite from his slice of pizza, scowling slightly as a drop of grease landed squarely on his history textbook.
"Why study? Don't you have a birthday or something? Why not bring friends?"
"Okay, respectively: my roommates are loud 24/7/365, my birthday's in March, and my friends are out of state."
"Loud roommates, huh? I hear that. I've got a friend named Chica, you probably saw her onstage. Or were you distracted by me? Anyway- Chica's an amazing guitarist. Always has been. Her singing voice, though? Atrocious. Just terrible. Practices it at night, too. Keeps us ALL up."
"Yeah, that song where she was the lead singer that you guys just did? I just maxed out the volume on my laptop. The awesome power of The Doors will vanquish any noise."
"What are The Doors?"
"Old band. They're kind of like your band. They have a keyboardist!"
"Really, now? You think theirs is better than me?"
"If I answer 'Yes', will you go on a tirade on how I'm wrong?"
"No promises, kid."
"I'm 19. Not a kid anymore. Also, just listen to this."
Isaac pressed 'play' on his laptop and the song Break on Through to the Other Side blasted through. Roxanne listened intently. The guitar ever smooth, the vocals just perfect. The drums added an extra kick to the rhythm. Then the keyboard kicked in. It wasn't for backup, no, it was a solo! Every beat, every key flowed like water. A body of water that, despite being water you could seemingly get anywhere, had that extra bit of tang that made it perfect in every way. The song enraptured the robot, pulled her in.
And then the song ended.
"So," Isaac looked up, having been answering a short answer question while the song was playing, "what did you think?"
"…"
"Uh…"
"Can you play it again? 100 times? 1000 times?"
"So you admit I was right?"
"Hah! Fat chance, nerd. Replay it!"
Isaac smirked. "Takes one to know one." He hit 'replay' before she could bite back.
See what I mean? That entire conversation flowed together better than anything from Chicken Wolf Nightguard. As always, tell me what you think in the reviews. Catch you all later.
