I wrote this fanfiction a very long time ago, it must be nearly ten years ago now. So I thought I'd dust it off and retell this story, it will be nice reliving it again. I wanted to write about the Wammy House, the school always interested me.

I first remember reading Another Note, I immediately took a shining to Beyond Birthday a.k.a BB or Backup. I love the anime series too, it's still holds its own until this very day.

-I don't own Death Note.

-My laptop charger decided to die on me - I'm sorry for any spelling errors and silly mistakes.

-Thank you for the reviews, faves and alerts!

-This opening chapter is from my oc Elizabeth's point of view, my writing style will change after this chapter.

Enjoy!

Chapter 16!

Winchester

Elizabeth had arrived back at her Aunt's cottage about four hours ago from Oxford, she was tired after the train journey. She enjoyed spending time with Bella and Jamie, she had visited so many places while she was staying with them. She had visited the shopping center and the grounds of Oxford University, she had basically seen all of the sights of her old town. She had also visited her Mum and Grandmother's graves, it felt weird going back to see their gravestones after all of these years. She planned to visit Bella again soon if her Aunt allowed it.

Elizabeth was feeling too sleepy to unpack her dirty clothes right now, she had been getting up earlier while she had been staying with Bella. But she hadn't minded since she got spend time with Jamie, she had a lot of fun with her new little friend. She had felt sad leaving him, but she promised to write to him and send him loads of photographs of Winchester.

" Elizabeth, I've made you a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich!" Rose called from downstairs. " Do you want me to bring it upstairs to your room or shall I leave it in the fridge until you're ready to eat?"

" I'll be down in a moment or two!" Elizabeth yelled.

" I'll put it in the fridge then!" Rose said with a laugh. " Why don't you take a nap, I'll wake you up when it's 4pm!"

" Okay, that sounds great!" Elizabeth said.

Blowing her fringe away from she eyes she lay back on her bed and put her hands behind her head. She looked at the alarm clock on the bedside table, it was now 2:30pm. Elizabeth didn't feel like moving from her comfy bed, she yawned loudly and covered herself up with a blanket. Her eyelids began to feel heavy, it wasn't long until she fell into a deep sleep.

A Few Hours Later

Elizabeth felt herself being shaken awaken, she partly opened her eyes to see Rose looking down at her with a look of concern on her face. Rose kept repeating Elizabeth's name, she had no idea what was going on. Elizabeth sat up on her bed when she heard male voices coming from downstairs, she had no idea who was in the cottage with them.

" What's going on?" Elizabeth asked with a yawn. " Do we have visitors?"

" Oh Elizabeth, something terrible has happened to your Aunt!" Rose replied before she took hold of the girl's hands. " You've got to get your coat on and come with me immediately! Miss Havisham has been rushed to the hospital!"

" What?!" Elizabeth asked, she slid from her bed and put her shoes on." What's happened?! Is my Aunt Thora okay?!"

" I don't know, but be quick and get your coat!" Rose replied while she switched the bedside table's lamp off. " She's been taken to Royal Hampshire County Hospital, there's a taxi waiting for us outside of the cottage!"

Elizabeth left her bedroom with Rose, they hurried down the stairs together. Rose went to fetch her handbag from the kitchen and Elizabeth took the house keys from the bowl, they were ready to leave. There were blue flashing lights from the roadside outside of the cottage, she couldn't believe what was happening. Her Aunt had been fine a few hours ago, she was drinking her tea and watching an old movie with Rose.

" Elizabeth, can you grab Miss Havisham overnight bag from the hallway!" Rose called from the kitchen." I'm just locking the back door and closing the window, I'll just be one moment!"

" Okay!" Elizabeth said, she looked at the overnight bag and put her coat. " Did you pack her favorite nightgown and hot water bottle?"

" Oh course! Come on my dear, let's get going." Rose replied while she closed the kitchen's door behind her. " Your Aunt is most probably at the hospital by now, she left about thirty minutes ago. I didn't want to wake you while the paramedics were here, it would have only distressed you..."

" I understand Rose, but what happened to my Aunt?" Elizabeth asked.

" It's not my place to say, let's just get to the hospital and see what the doctors say." Rose replied. " I hope I remembered to locked the back door, we don't want any unwelcome visitors while we're at the hospital."

" You've locked it..." Elizabeth said before she grabbed her Aunt's overnight bag from the floor. " The cottage isn't that important right now, we need to get to the hospital and be there for my Aunt Thora. She needs us, we've got to look after her until she feels better again. She'll be okay, right?"

" She'll be fine, let's hurry!" Rose replied.

They both left the cottage, it was already dark outside. Rose locked the front door and put the house keys in her handbag, but she did double check to make sure she had locked properly. They hurried along the pathway and got into the back of taxi. Elizabeth hugged the overnight bag while the taxi pulled away from the cottage, she looked through the taxi's back window and saw a police car parked outside of the cottage.

The Hospital

The taxi pulled up outside of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Rose took her purse from her handbag. She told Elizabeth to wait inside of the hospital for her. Elizabeth hurried into the hospital's reception and stopped near some blue plastic chairs in the reception area, she looked around the reception area while she chewed at her bottom lip. Elizabeth didn't liked hospitals, the smell of disinfectant and the beeping sounds of the machines always made her feel nervous.

Rose hurried through the main entrance of the hospital, she made her way to the reception desk and took an envelope from her handbag. Elizabeth followed after her, they got directions from the receptionist to the ward her Aunt was being kept on. They made their way to the ward and saw a dark haired nurse on the reception desk, Rose then gave the nurse the patient's details.

" Miss Thora Havisham..." The nurse said while she looked through her records on the desk. " Ah yes! She's in the side room at the end of this corridor, her room number is 4C. At this very moment she's being seen by one of our doctors. If you wouldn't mind taking a seat at the end of the corridor, I'll inform him that you're here. There's a vending machine down there too in case your little one needs a drink, the canteen is also open until late if you get hungry."

" Yes, thank you." Rose said. " Come on Elizabeth, we've got to go this way."

Rose took hold of Elizabeth's hand while they walked together down corridor, she soon stopped her at a row of blue plastic chairs along the wall of the corridor. Elizabeth placed the overnight bag down on one of the chairs, she watched the nurse from the reception desk go into the side room numbered 4C where her Aunt was being kept.

" Elizabeth, why don't you get us some hot drinks from the vending machine down the corridor." Rose said. " We maybe waiting for awhile yet."

" Okay, what would you like to drink?" Elizabeth asked before she turned around to face Rose. " Tea, soup, hot chocolate, coffee..."

" Tea for me, you on the other hand better stay away from the coffee." Rose replied while she took some money from her purse and held a few coins towards her. " Here we go, that should be enough. You better hurry up my dear, I'm gasping for a hot drink."

" Okay." Elizabeth nodded.

Elizabeth took the money from Rose's hand and walked back along the corridor, she then stopped in front of the vending machine. She read through the menu of drinks and chose a hot chocolate for herself, she then put some money into the machine. She ordered a tea for Rose first and then a hot chocolate for herself afterwards. She took the plastic cups from the machine before she looked back down the corridor. She saw a blonde haired doctor talking to Rose. She carefully walked back down the corridor, she stopped near a water cooler and listened in on their conversation.

" Miss Morrissey?" He asked.

" Yes, that's me." Rose replied.

" Hello, I'm Doctor James Marshall." He smiled and shook Rose's hand. " I'll be treating Miss Havisham while she's under our care on this ward, I don't have all of her results back just yet. But from what I gather this is not the first time she's been rushed into hospital in the last few months, am I correct?"

" Yes, she was rushed in a few months ago with breathing difficulties." Rose replied. " Is Miss Havisham okay? It was quite a shock to my system when she collapsed! I'm here with her Great Niece. She doesn't know that her Aunt is seriously ill, we made up a covering story saying that her Aunt was staying in a health retreat in the Peak District the last time she was rushed into hospital. If you could please keep it discreet for her sake, we plan on not telling her just yet."

" I understand." He nodded.

Elizabeth hid behind the water cooler and leaned back against the wall before she took a sharp breath, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her Aunt wasn't okay, her Aunt had even told her that she was in good health a few weeks ago. She had been lied to by her own family. She continued to listen in on their conversation, she wanted to know what was wrong with her only living relative.

" I'm afraid to say Miss Havisham has a mild case of Pneumonia, we were very lucky to catch it when we did." The male doctor said. " It says in her medical notes that a close family member of Miss Havisham died from Pneumonia, am I right?"

" I'm not really sure, you're asking the wrong person for that kind of information." Rose replied. " You're best calling her GP, he's got all of Miss Havisham's medical family history in his records from her Father to her Mother and her other family members."

" You're right, Doctor!" Elizabeth said before she walked over to the doctor with the hot drinks in her hands. " My Mum died of Pneumonia when I was eight, I was given the Pneumococcal Vaccine because there's a history of lung disease in my family. My Grandmother died from respiratory failure and..."

" Elizabeth!" Rose interrupted, she placed her hand on the girl's shoulder. " Don't be rude, the doctor was talking to me!"

" I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you both..." Elizabeth said with a sigh." But how is my Aunt? Will we be able to see her?"

" It's quite alright, you don't have to say you're sorry." He smiled. " You seem to know your family's medical history, it's good that you've informed me about the lung disease in your family. Your Aunt is being cared for by one of our nurses right now, you may not be able to see her until tomorrow."

" Oh..." Elizabeth sighed.

" Excuse me doctor, but what will happen now?" Rose asked." When will Miss Havisham be allowed to come home? Will she need any carers to visit her in the week? I have to say Miss Havisham is set in her ways, she dislikes change in her daily routine."

" At the moment she'll be staying in hospital for the next few days, she needs to have more bloods taken and around the clock supervision."He replied. " There will be a few changes to her daily routine, she will need an oxygen canister for her breathing and her medication will be doubled at some point in the future months."

" How long will it take her to recover this time?" Rose asked.

" It will take her about two to four weeks to recover, I've prescribed some antibiotics for Miss Havisham to take once a day." He replied while he closed his folder and put his pen in his coat pocket. " Just give her the antibiotics, make sure she gets plenty of rest and fluids. Other than that she'll be back on her feet in no time, but you do understand that her lungs are deteriorating at a very slow rate."

" I know..." Rose said.

" Like we've discussed in the past we're not sure how long Miss Havisham has left." He said, there was tone of sympathy in his voice. " Have you discussed future plans with her yet?"

" Are you saying my Aunt is going to die?!" Elizabeth gasped and looked at Rose. " Tell me that he's lying! She can't die yet, she's too much of a firecracker to die!"

" Elizabeth, it's okay..." Rose said, she gently rubbed the girl's shoulder and kept her gaze on the doctor. "I understand doctor, thank you for your time."

" It's not a problem." He said with a slight smile. " I'll come back when I know more."

The doctor left and Elizabeth sat down on one of the plastic chairs, she had no idea that her Aunt had lung issues like Mother. Rose sat down next to the young girl and took one of the hot drinks from her hand, she told her that they would know more in a couple of hours.

" I'm sorry about my outburst..." Elizabeth said before she looked at Rose. " I should have known better, but I had no idea what Aunt Thora was going through."

" It's okay, it's not your fault how you reacted." Rose said.

" She'll be okay for now though, right?" Elizabeth asked.

" Of course, your Aunt is a firecracker like you said." Rose replied, she put her arm around Elizabeth and kissed the top of her head. " I bet she'll be right has rain by the morning and demanding her morning cup of tea, but you do understand that your Aunt is really ill. We didn't want you to find out this way, your Aunt was planning to tell you about her..."

" It's okay Rose, I understand!" Elizabeth interrupted." You don't have to say it, it's okay!"

" You've grownup too quickly, you're a credit to Miss Havisham." Rose said with a smile. " You don't know how much you mean to her, she's very proud of you even if she doesn't show it. Do you want me to grab you a bite to eat from the canteen?"

" No, I'm not hungry right now." Elizabeth replied before she took a sip of her drink. " Do you think we'll be able to see her tonight? I know the doctor said in the morning, but I just want to see her..."

" We'll see my dear, will you be okay for a moment while I just make a few phone calls?" Rose asked while she removed her arm from around her. " There's a few people I need to ring."

" Yes, I'll be fine." Elizabeth replied.

" Good girl, I'll try to be quick." Rose said.

Rose walked down the corridor and disappeared into another corridor. Elizabeth took another sip of her hot chocolate and looked over at the side room her Aunt was staying in. She didn't know what was wrong with her, but she hoped her Aunt would be well enough to returned back home soon.
