I wrote this fanfiction a very long time ago, it must be nearly ten years ago now. So I thought I'd dust it off and retell this story, it will be nice reliving it again. I wanted to write about the Wammy House, the school always interested me.

I first remember reading Another Note, I immediately took a shining to Beyond Birthday a.k.a BB or Backup. I love the anime series too, it's still holds its own until this very day.

-I don't own Death Note.

-My laptop charger decided to die on me - I'm sorry for any spelling errors and silly mistakes.

-Thank you for the reviews, faves and alerts!

-This opening chapter is from my oc Elizabeth's point of view, my writing style will change after this chapter.

Enjoy!

Chapter 21!

It was now August, the months had flown by once again. Nonie had began having lesson with A and Backup in Watari's office. It turned out she was intelligent just like her Brother, but A was still the smartest student at orphanage. Elizabeth hadn't been seeing them much since their new lesson plans had been arranged, she only saw them in the dinner hall and a couple hours before bed time.

Today was one of those days, she was all by herself again until dinner time. It was Saturday afternoon and she had nothing to do besides some homework, she had volunteered to help with the monthly tidying of the art room. It would keep her busy for an hour or two until dinner time. Only four other students and herself had volunteered to help the art teacher to tidy the classroom. All they had to do was put all the paints back into the right cupboards, make sure everything was labelled properly, sweep the floor and scrub any dried paint from the desks.

By the time it had turned 3pm three of the students had gotten bored and left to play outside on the swings, even the art teacher had disappeared an hour ago saying he was going to get some more cleaning detergents from the caretaker. It was just Elizabeth and a male student named Jinx that were left tidying the classroom. They had three more desks to scrub and then they'd be done. It didn't take them long to clean the desks, she told Jinx that she would take the bucket outside to empty while he took the brooms and the cleaning detergent back to the caretaker.

Elizabeth left the classroom with the bucket and made her way along the corridor that led towards the main entrance of The Wammy House. She opened one of the big doors of the main entrance and made her way down some stone steps that led to a pathway. It was a nice day, the sun was shining and most of the children were outside playing. She stopped by a flower bed, she then began to pour the water down the drain.

" Hey lady!" Someone yelled. " Watch out for the ball!"

Elizabeth spun around on her heals and saw a football flying towards her, she held the bucket in front of her face to shield herself from the ball. She heard the ball hit the bucket and some of the water from it splashed onto her face. She placed the bucket down on the ground and wiped the water away from her face with her cardigan's sleeve.

" Are you okay?!" A boy shouted. " My friend is sorry, he didn't mean it!"

" Shut up you idiot!" Another boy yelled." We'll get scolding from Mr Ruvie if she see's us, run away!"

Elizabeth saw a boy dressed in black with blonde hair running away down a pathway with some other children. There was another boy with brown hair just standing there with his mouth wide open, he had a Game Boy in his hands and a pair of goggles on his head. He didn't look very old, he must be one of the younger students from the east part of the building.

" Wow, it sucks to be you..." Someone said. " I don't envy you at all, I bet your dress is ruined now. You should take it to the laundry room, they maybe able to do something about it before the water soaks into the dresses material. I hear soaking clothes in baking soda gets rid of stains, maybe you should borrow some baking soda from the kitchen. "

Nonie was standing on the steps on the building, she had her arms crossed with a smirk on her face. She walked down the steps and flipped some of her blonde hair over her shoulder while she walked passed Elizabeth. She walked over to the boy with the brown hair, she placed her hand on his shoulder and led him down the pathway where the other children had run down not long ago. Elizabeth sat on one of the steps and sighed to herself, she then heard footsteps coming down the steps behind her. Backup and A were walking down the steps towards her. They were dressed in jogging pants and black shirts. She got up from the step before she picked the bucket up from the ground and tipped the rest of the dirty water down the drain.

" Hey Izzy, do you fancy a run?" A asked with a smile." It will give you an appetite before dinner."

" No thank you, I'm not dressed for running." Elizabeth replied and turned around to face him. " Thank you for the offer though, but I'm busy right now. I volunteered to help with the monthly tidying of the art room, I've got to go and return the bucket before I go and get cleaned up."

" Why are your clothes wet?" A asked.

" I kind of had an accident with the bucket or should I say someone kicked a football at me!" Elizabeth replied with a sigh. " But it can be fixed with some baking soda, that's Nonie told me."

" What a pity, I would have liked to have seen you trying to keep up with us." Backup smirked while he stretched his arms above his head. " It would have been very entertaining, it would have been like hounds chasing a fox."

" I thought foxes were faster than hounds, that's what you normally see on television." Elizabeth said before she walked over to A and patted his arm. " Excuse me A, would you happen to have any mints or chewing gum on you today? I can taste cleaning detergent in my mouth, it's not pleasant..."

" I've got toffee, will that do?" A asked.

" Anything is better than the taste of detergent in my mouth." Elizabeth replied.

" Just the one mind you, these babies have got to last me until Monday." A said before he took a toffee from his pocket. " You'll owe me something though, I'll be calling in a favour very soon."

" I've got a box of Ferrero Rochers with your name on them in my room if you'd like them." Elizabeth said before she took the toffee from his hand. " I better return the bucket to the caretaker, I need to finish some physics homework before Monday. I'll see you around 5pm, enjoy your run!"

" Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" A asked.

" I'm very sure!" Elizabeth replied.

" Enough of your idle talk, she doesn't want to come with us!" Backup sighed, he grabbed hold of A's arm and pulled him down the steps. "Accept her answer and move your ass!"

" Aww, is my puppy hound getting restless?" A asked, he quickly got Backup into a headlock and led him down the pathway. " I'll see you later, I'm just going to take the puppy for a run!"

" Alternative, let me go!" Backup said with chuckle while he struggled." I would recommend that you to run when you release me, I'm going kill you!"

" Is my little puppy mad? Who's a good boy, who's my good puppy dog?!" A asked before he laughed. " Ready, steady, go!"

A release Backup from the headlock, he pushed him away from him and then sprinted off down the pathway with Backup following not far behind him. Elizabeth covered up her mouth and laughed when Backup tackled A to the ground, he pushed Backup off him before he got up from the ground. He then continued running down the pathway. She shook her head at them in amusement and watched them disappear into some woods near the cemetery.

Sunday Night

Elizabeth put her homework in her bag with the rest of her books and pens, she then hung her bag over the end of her bed. She sat at her dressing table and stared at her reflection in the mirror while she brushed her fingers through her hair. She tied her hair up into a ponytail and looked over at the door when she heard someone gently knocking on it.

" Who is it?" Elizabeth asked.

" It's Watari." He replied. " I'm here to deliver your fortnightly mail."

Elizabeth rushed over to the door and opened it, she smiled Watari before she invited him into her room. She grabbed a pile of her dirty laundry from the floor and put it in the laundry basket. Watari close the bedroom's door behind him and took two envelopes from the inside pocket of his jacket.

" Who are those letters from?" Elizabeth asked.

" It's from your friend Bella, she's sent two letters this time instead of one." He replied. " One was addressed to me and the other one is addressed to you, it seems that I've got something very important to discuss with you that could change your future. Bella has written to me and asked if I would allow you to move back to Oxford to live with her. Would you have any interest in moving back to your hometown if you had the chance?"

" Really?" Elizabeth asked, there was a hint of surprise in her voice. " I mean, I'm not sure..."

" Yes, I've brought both of the letters for you to read." He replied and took a step towards her. " You've got a month to decide what you would like to do. When you have finished with the letters I would like you to return them to me. But please don't feel pressured by Bella's offer, the decision is yours to make."

" Okay." Elizabeth said.

" Here's your letter. All the information you need to know is inside of this envelope addressed to me." He smiled and handed her the two envelopes. " If you have any questions I'll be in my office, I'm here to support you and give you guidance until you make a decision."

" Do I have to make a decision right now?" Elizabeth asked.

" No my dear, you have a month to decide yet." He replied, he walked over to the room's door and opened it before he looked over his shoulder at her. " This evening I've arranged a movie night for students over the age of twelve in the television room, it will be a 80's horror fest night with many treats and fizzy drinks. I for one didn't choose the theme of the night, you have a few of the other students to thank for that theme. But you're most welcome to join them, it will begin at 7pm."

" Okay, I'll think about it." Elizabeth said.

" Maybe you should take this opportunity to spend some time with your friends, time is precious has you very well know." He said with a kind smile. " It will be months until any guardian or adoption procedures will be put into motion upon your decision, the choice is yours alone."

" Okay, thank you." Elizabeth said.

" But remember that your decision will change your future." He said while he walked through the doorway " Make sure you make the right choice by the end of the month."

" I'll take that to mind." Elizabeth smiled.

Watari close the room's door behind him, she sat down on the bed and opened the envelope addressed to her. She read through the letter before she put it back into the envelope, she then placed it in the dresser's draw. Elizabeth left her room and made her way to the dinner hall, she was running ten minutes late. A, Backup and Nonie were already sitting at a table in the hall. She took a tray from the tray holder and chose some cheesy pasta with sweetcorn. She took a pot of jelly marshmallow surprise for dessert before she headed over to the table where her friends were sitting.

" Sorry I'm late!" Elizabeth said before sat down next to Nonie. " Watari wanted a private word with me, it was nothing important."

" It's cool." A said with a smile. " But I've got the most amazing news ever! Do you want to hear it?"

" Sure." Elizabeth replied.

" I'm going to be studying in Japan for a month!" A replied, he took a bite of his apple and then spoke with his mouth full. " I'm going over there to take part in the criminal justice studies program, it's going to be intense!"

" Wow, that sounds amazing!" Elizabeth smiled, she picked her folk up from the tray. " I'm really happy for you, what a great opportunity you have been given. What exactly is a criminal justice studies program anyway?"

Elizabeth listened to A telling her all about the criminal justice studies program. Watari had arranged for him to visit a college in Japan in three weeks time, he would then begin the program the week after that for a month. He was really excited about it, she envied him sometimes though. A always got to travel to places all over the world with Watari and his mentor L, it sounded fun. She stabbed a pasta shell with her fork and held it in front of her face before she ate it, her mind was elsewhere.

" Why are you being quiet?" Nonie asked." Have you lost your voice or are you getting bored of hearing A talk about Japan? I know I am! The lucky shit gets everything handed to him on a golden plate!"

" I've just got a lot on my mind right now." Elizabeth replied.

" Like what?" Nonie asked.

" It's just that I've had some news myself today, I've been asked if I would like to move back to Oxford to live with my Mum's best friend." Elizabeth replied, she stirred her fork around in the bowl of pasta. " I'm not sure if I want to move, I kind of like living in Winchester. Also I would have to go back to public school, it would mean restarting my education all over again and making new friends. "

" I'd move if I got the chance, anywhere is better than this orphanage." Nonie said." I don't think you'd be missed here, so I would move if I was you."

" Nonie, don't be rude!" A frowned.

" What? I'm just pointing out some facts! The children here wouldn't noticed if she decided to move to Oxford and I know for a fact that any orphan here would love to get out of this place!" Nonie smirked before she spooned some of her strawberry jelly into her mouth." What do you think Backup? Would you noticed if Izzy moved back to Oxford?"

" Do I have to take part in this conversation?" Backup asked.

" Yes, it's important!" Nonie replied.

" This conversation truly doesn't appeal to me, but if you want my opinion then I'll participate just for a moment." Backup deeply sighed to himself. " If she moved to Oxford then I would notice, I like watching her lifespan. I'm waiting for the moment it begins to tick down, I can't wait to see when she's going to di..."

" Backup!" A Interrupted

The table jerk and Elizabeth grabbed hold of her glass of juice before she pulled the chair away from the table. She looked over at A and Backup, they were glaring at each other. She heard Nonie laughing, she placed her glass back down on the tray and pulled the chair closer towards the table. She then took her spoon from my tray and ate some of the jelly marshmallow surprise before she cleared her throat.

" I heard there's going to be horror movie night in the television room. Do any of you guys want to go and watch some of the films with me?" Elizabeth asked. " Watari told me about it, he said there will be loads of treats. Doesn't that sound fun?"

" It depends on what movies they're be showing, but I'm up for a horror movie night." Nonie replied, she took a strawberry from her bowl and dipped it into some whipped cream." What movie titles are they showing?"

" I'm not really sure, but they're from the 1980's." Elizabeth replied.

" The special effects will be awful then, but I'll go anyway." Nonie said, she looked over at A and Backup." How about you two? Are you guys up for a movie night or are you planning to glare at each other for the rest of the evening?"

" Yeah I'll come, but for now I need to be somewhere else." A replied." I'll meet you guys there."

A took another apple from his tray and quickly left the dinner hall, she had no idea where he was going. She looked back at Nonie and Backup, they were talking quietly to each other. She finished the rest of her dinner, she took some leftover sweets from A's tray and said goodbye to her friends before she left the dinner hall.

A Few Hours Later

Elizabeth left her bedroom to go and meet her friends at the television room for the movie night, but they were already there waiting for her. Watari had laid out many treats for the students, there was an array of colours. Popcorn, crisps, lollipops, chocolate bars and fizzy drinks were laid out on a table. It was like a midnight feast, she knew half of the students would be on sugar highs for the rest of the night. She chose a packet of fizzy cola bottles and a carton of milk before she sat with Nonie on some beanbags. A was sitting with Backup on the sofa, they were talking to some other students.

The movie line up for the night was terrible, the titles of the films spoke for themselves. There was Killer Klowns from Outer Space, C.H.U.D and Critters. The students had a vote of hands to decide what should be watched first, most of the students voted for Critters. Elizabeth opened her bag of fizzy cola bottle, she popped one of them into her mouth and pulled a face while the fizzy coating of the sweets tingled on her tongue.

" Great! I was hoping they would put Killer Klowns from Outer Space on first..." Nonie said with a sigh." I've seen Critters loads times, I was hoping for creepy clowns causing funny deaths with their razor sharp teeth and acid filled flower squirters. I'm just guessing what the movie is about from the video cover, but that would be cool right?"

" That sound disturbing, why would you want to watching something like that?" Elizabeth asked, she looked at her. " Wouldn't stuff like that give you nightmares?"

" Nope, the more gore the better!" Nonie smiled. " Have you ever seen Friday the 13th or Halloween before?"

" No, are they good?" Elizabeth asked.

" They're okay I guess, you should come to my room one time and watch them with me." Nonie replied, she took a lollipop from her hoody pocket and unwrapped it. " We could have movie afternoon tomorrow with A and Backup, would you come if I arranged it?"

" Sure, I prefer horror movies in the daylight hours anyway." Elizabeth replied.

" Cool, I'll get the video tapes from the library in the morning and borrow a video player from one of the classroom to hookup to my television in my room." Nonie said with a smile. " So, have you made a decision about Oxford yet?"

" Not yet, I've got a month to decide about it." Elizabeth replied with a sigh. " If I said yes it would take months for me to move to Oxford anyway. They have to finalize it with documents and go through a guardian adoption agreement. But the choice is mine."

" Oh right, can I tell you something in confidence?" Nonie asked with a whisper. " But you've got to swear that you won't tell anyone about what I'm about to tell you! Do you swear on the holy bible?"

" Okay, I swear." Elizabeth replied.

" Do you remember when A left the dinner hall earlier today?" Nonie whispered.

" Yeah, I remember." Elizabeth replied.

" Well, he went straight to Watari's office and demanded that the adoption should be stopped." Nonie said, her speaking tone was serious. " He doesn't want you to leave here and I don't want you to leave if it makes my Brother unhappy. Don't you see it yet?"

" See what?" Elizabeth asked.

" It's so obvious even a baby could get it!" Nonie sighed.

" What am I meant to be getting?" Elizabeth asked.

" He's totally crushing on you!" Nonie replied, she took her lollipop from her mouth. " If you leave now you'll break his heart, then I'd have to hunt you down and kill you for it. He struggles enough with his depression and self harming, he's so messed up inside! No one around here even knows about it because he smiles through it."

" He does what?!" Elizabeth yelled before she covered up her mouth." How long has this been going on? Why didn't he tell me about it?!"

" I don't know, I'm not his psychiatrist." Nonie replied.

Elizabeth looked over at A sitting on the sofa with Backup and a few other children, he was leaning on his hand while he watched the film. She slid down on the beanbag and watched A eating some of his crisps, she had no idea that he liked her in another way. He had always been there for her and made sure she had everything she needed while she had been living at the orphanage. She turned her attention towards the television when he glanced over at her, she chewed at her bottom lip and stare at the television for the rest of the movie night.
