I wrote this fanfiction a very long time ago, it must be nearly ten years ago now. So I thought I'd dust it off and retell this story, it will be nice reliving it again. I wanted to write about the Wammy House, the school always interested me.

I first remember reading Another Note, I immediately took a shining to Beyond Birthday a.k.a BB or Backup. I love the anime series too, it's still holds its own until this very day.

-I don't own Death Note.

-My laptop charger decided to die on me - I'm sorry for any spelling errors and silly mistakes.

-Thank you for the reviews, faves and alerts!

-This opening chapter is from my oc Elizabeth's point of view, my writing style will change after this chapter.

Enjoy!

Chapter 24!

Elizabeth ended up staying with A for over an hour in the attic, they sat and talked about what they were going to do about their relationship. They had decided in the end that it would be best if they kept it a secret for the time being, they had no idea if they were even allowed to date each other. Elizabeth glanced at A's watch, she was late for her kitchen job. She said goodbye A and quickly left the attic. She hurried all the way to the ground floor of the building, she then ran along the corridor that led to the kitchen. She stopped when she got to the kitchen's door, she stood on her tiptoes and looked through the window of the door.

The kitchen staff were all busy preparing meals for the students. Elizabeth wiped her mouth on the back of her hand before she took a deep breath, she then opened the door to the kitchen. She entered the room while she smiled at a couple of the kitchen staff, none of them seemed to be bothered that she was late. She soon spotted Rose taking some jacket potatoes out of the oven, she was excited to see her old friend.

" Sorry I'm late Mrs Milder, I had to finish some course work before I came down to help!" Elizabeth said, she took a white apron from the coat rack and quickly put it on. " It won't happen again, I'll make up the time!"

" It's fine, you don't have to make up the time." She said before she held a hairnet towards her. " Pop this on and get stuck in, we've got two hours left until dinner is served. You can go and help Rose with the jacket potatoes. Mr Wammy has arranged everything, so there's no need to worry."

" Thank you Mrs Milder!" Elizabeth smiled.

Elizabeth put her hairnet on while she approached Rose, she caught her old friends attention when she pulled at her apron string. Rose gave her a hug, she told Elizabeth that she had missed her so much. She also told her about the new tea house business she was running, she had opened a tea house in a cottage not far away from orphanage.

" What do you want me to do?" Elizabeth asked.

" Well, I need someone to grate that block of cheese for me." Rose replied before she removed some tinfoil from a tray. " I know it's not an exciting job, but it needs to be done for the jacket potatoes. Remember to cut the cheese into smaller blocks first, I don't want a repeat performance like the time you grated your knuckles inside the cheese gratter. I don't think shredded knuckle jacket potatoes sound very appetizing, do you?"

" I was nine when that happened!" Elizabeth said with a sigh. " I've grown up loads since then."

" That's true, you're not my little Elizabeth anymore." Rose chuckled. " Let's stop gasp bagging, we've got a job to do! We can have a little chat at the Bonfire party. I'll be there serving food and keeping an eye on some of the younger children for Mr Wammy."

" Okay." EIizabeth nodded.

Elizabeth grated the cheese and topped the jacket potatoes with the cheese, she then wrapped the potatoes in tinfoil to keep them warm. She also helped with the toffee apples, it seemed like Watari pushed the boat out when it came to holiday events. When she had finished she helped to take the food to a little white marquee that was setup on the grounds, there were tables and chairs outside of the marquee . Some of the students had helped to build a bonfire, it wasn't too big and some of the younger students had made a Guy Fawkes that looked like Mr Ruvie.

Elizabeth goodbye to the kitchen staff, she needed to go and get changed for the Bonfire party. It was getting cold, she had decided to wear some jeans and a shirt. She put her red coat on and a pair of black gloves before she left her room, she then made her way down to the bottom floor of the building. She followed a group of students while they walked through the entrance and down the stone steps towards the pathway, it seemed like most of the students were already outside.

The Bonfire had already been lit, she saw Watari standing with a group of students and Mr Ruvie. EIizabeth walked towards the food marquee, she saw Rose serving a couple of the students. The marquee was quiet and only a few students were eating chocolate covered oranges in the corner of the marquee. She took chocolate apple from a tray and checked out the rest of the food. There were jacket potatoes topped with cheese, toffee apples, chocolate covered strawberries, prawn balls, homemade vegetable soup, BBQ chicken, chips, sausage rolls and meat filled pies.

" Is that all you're having?" Rose asked." Your Aunt would be spinning in her grave if she knew you were not eating the right kind of food. Come and have some of this vegetable soup."

" I'm not that hungry right now, I'll come back in awhile for something savory food." Elizabeth replied before she took a bite out of her chocolate apple. " Save me some of the soup though."

" Okay, have fun!" Rose smiled.

" I will!' Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth left the marquee and went to join a few of the other students. She spoke to a few of them until they decided to get something to eat, she continued to eat her chocolate apple while she stared at the Bonfire. She felt someone take hold of her hand, she looked over her shoulder and saw A standing behind her with a big smile on his face. She returned his smile and pulled her hand away from him before she playful nudged him with elbow.

" You've got chocolate around your mouth, you're such a messy eater!" A chucked, he gently nudged her with his arm. " I can't take you anywhere without you making a show of yourself, it's a good job you've got me to look after you from now on."

" I'm an embarrassment to myself, thank you for telling me." Elizabeth said, she wiped her mouth with a napkin. " You shouldn't really be holding my hand in front of the other students, what if someone saw us? We're meant to be keeping it a secret. We've just got to act discreet at public events so no one notices."

" Alright, so how did your shift go in the kitchen?" A asked, he crossed his arms. " Looking at all of the different kinds of food in the marquee is telling me that it went to plan. I've already ate three toffee apples, two jacket potatoes and some spicy prawn ball thingys with a creamy chive dip. I'll be sleeping tonight, I've not felt this full in ages!"

" It went well, I helped to make the toffee apples and topped the jacket potatoes with cheese. Did you try the chocolate covered oranges yet?" Elizabeth asked. " You're so greedy though, save some food for the rest of us!"

" Hey, I'm a growing boy!" A smiled.

" That old excuse is wearing thin now, I don't believe you." Elizabeth said with a smile. " These chocolate apples are delicious, I've had so much chocolate today. I'll end up having a sugar high for the rest of the night, I won't able to sleep for hours which is probably a good thing. I've got a essay I need to finish for literacy by tomorrow. Maybe I should try those chocolate covered oranges to keep my sugar rush going."

" There's nothing wrong with a lot sugar in your diet, it keeps your brain ticking." A said, he glanced around at the other students. " I've got a secret, can I whisper it to you?"

" Sure." Elizabeth replied.

A rested his hand on the lower part of her back, he leant forward and whispered into her ear. He told her that the cheese was the best part of the jacket potatoes, he also told her that she looked cute in a hairnet. Elizabeth laughed while he continued to whisper nonsense into her ear. But she soon noticed Nonie watching her. She was standing with a group of younger students near a table full of hot drinks. She pushed A away from her and told him about Nonie.

" We've caught Nonie attention, I think you should go and mingle with a few other students. " Elizabeth said. " We can meet up later when the fireworks begin, I'll go and sit on that bench over there until then."

" Nonie is always watching us, you shouldn't take it personally..." A said while he put his hands into his coat pockets. " But I get what you mean, I was kind of public displaying it far too much just now. I'm going to see where Backup is hiding, I've not seen him for over an hour now. Maybe I'll try some of those chocolate covered oranges you spoke about, they sound good. Do you want anything from the food marquee?"

" Soup, I would like a cup of soup please." Elizabeth replied.

" Alright, I'll hang inside of the marquee for awhile and meet you afterwards with your soup." A said with a smile." I'll see you later."

" Bye." Elizabeth said.

A walk over to the marquee where they were serving the food, she took another bite of her chocolate apple while she walked over to the bench. Elizabeth sat down on it and watched some children running around with rainbow sparklers in their hands. She looked over at the Bonfire when she heard some children laughing, someone had thrown the Guy Fawkes onto the bonfire too early. Mr Ruivie walked over to the group of children while he waved his arms around in the air, she couldn't help but laugh at him. She felt someone sit down next to her, she saw Backup perched on the edge of the bench with a plate full of chocolate covered strawberries and potato wedges.

" The mischief of children, isn't it delightful?" Backup asked while he rested a chocolate covered strawberry against his lips." Look at the Guy Fawkes burn, fire is an impressive way to cleanse the human body you know. It burns all of your sins away and leaves you vulnerable, basically innocent all over again."

" A is looking for you, why don't you go and find him." Elizabeth replied. " He's at the food marquee, he's been wondering where you've been hiding for the last hour. But looking at you now I see you've been raiding the food marquee, I'm surprised there's any food left for the other students with you pair around."

" I've already seen him, he was talking to a girl called Autumn about Pavlova and toasted marshmallows." Backup chuckled, he held his plate towards her and popped the chocolate covered strawberry into his mouth. " Would you like strawberry? The saltiness of the wedges has soaked into the chocolate, they taste rather good."

" I'm okay, but thank you for your kind offer." Elizabeth replied.

" I guess that means there will be more for me." Backup smirked.

Elizabeth turned her attention away from Backup, she listened to him talking about the bonfire. She took another bite of her chocolate apple while she continued to watch Mr Ruvie yelling at the group of children near the bonfire, she was enjoying the Bonfire party so far.

Six Months Later

Elizabeth had been seeing A for over six months now in secret, they just acted normal around the other students so they didn't draw any attention to themselves. They spent an hour together in the library or just walking around the orphanage's grounds, it was easier this way and no one suspects a thing. Elizabeth had woken early this morning, it was 6:15am. She was going running with A. He normally went running with Backup, but Backup was in isolation again for stealing chemicals from the science lab. They had arranged it with Watari, he was fine with it because he preferred students to go running in pairs or in groups in case anything happened while they were out.

Elizabeth got changed into her gym kit, she didn't own any clothes for running. She tied her hair up into a messy bun and put her sneakers on before she left her room. She closed the door quietly behind her since most of the students didn't wake up till 7am. She heard a few children laughing from one of the rooms while she walked passed it, she then hurried down the two flights of stairs to the ground floor and left the orphanage through the main entrance.

The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the whole of the orphanage's grounds were empty. She did a few stretches while she waited for A, she shook her hands and feet before she gently jogged on the spot. It wasnt long until she heard footsteps, she was soon joined by A. He was dressed in grey jogging bottoms, a white hoody with finger less black gloves and white sneakers.

" What took you so long?" Elizabeth asked.

" I overslept, I was up until 1am finishing a few essays." He replied before he jogged down the steps towards her. " Are you ready? I'm only going to take you for a short jog along the trail in the woods, I'll go easy on you."

" Okay." EIizabeth replied.

" Good, let's go then!" He smiled.

They jogged down the pathway together. Elizabeth pulled her shorts up while she jogged, they were too big for her. It wasn't long until they got to an old green iron gate that led into the woods. A opened the gate and held it open for her. She walked through the gateway and carried on jogging down the trail until she stopped by a tree. She pulled her shorts up again while A jog passed her, she quickly followed after him.

" Slow down!" Elizabeth yelled before she managed to catch up with him. " I thought you were going to go easy on me!"

" I am going easy on you, it's not my fault if you've got short legs!" He chuckled.

" Hey!" Elizabeth said, she quickened her jogging pace and overtook him. " Take that back!"

" I'm telling the truth though, you're short!" He said with a smile. " Try and keep up with me!"

A sprinted passed her, she began to run as fast as she could down the trail. A was a good runner, but she guessed he had to stay fit and healthy for his future career. She began to pant while she ran up a hilly part of the trail, she stumbled a few times on some twigs and stones.

" My side hurts, I think I've pulled something!" Elizabeth yelled.

A slowed down and stopped on the trail, he unzipped his hoody while he waited for Elizabeth to catchup with him. She took her time walking up the hill, she walked passed him and sat down on a rock near the trail.

" Are you alright?" He asked.

" I think I've got a stitch, I need to sit down..." Elizabeth replied, she rested her hand on her right side. " I don't know how you do this every morning, this is the first time I've ever been jogging in the woods and I'm exhausted already! I know I take gym class, but this is not like climbing a rope or sparring. My feet are killing me too!"

" You'll get use to it, you just have to run each day and your body will get use to it." He said before he stretched his hands above his head. " There's a stream not far away from here, you can bathe your feet in the stream if you want."

" That does sound nice." Elizabeth said.

" Follow me." He said.

Elizabeth slowly followed A down a slope near the trail, it wasn't long until she saw the stream ahead of them. A was already by the stream taking his sneakers off. She stumbled on a few stones before she got to the stream, she removed her sneakers and sat down next to A. She dipped her feet into the stream, the water was freezing but it felt so good on her aching feet. A playfully splashed some water at her with his foot, she ended up kicked some water back at him and laughing at him when some water hit him in the face.

" So mean!" He whined and wiped the water away from his face with his sleeve. " I'm soaked through now, it's a good job I love you or you'd be floating down the stream by now."

" You love me?" Elizabeth asked.

" Yeah, I guess I do love you..." He replied, he tucked some of her hair behind her ear. " Have I ever told you that you're as short as tree stump?"

" Hey, no more short jokes!" Elizabeth replied with a frown. " Now that was just mean! Take that back, I can't help being short. It's in my genetics from my Mother's side."

" I was joking, I take it back!" He laughed.

" I know, I was just teasing you." Elizabeth smiled, she cupped arms with him and took hold of his hand. " It's so quiet in this part of the woods, do you come here often?"

" That just sounded like a bad chat up line, but yes I come here sometimes. Me and Backup always jog pass this stream and climb a few trees further along from here. There's an old tree house further down the trail." He replied while he pointed down the stream. " Do you know if you follow this stream you'll end up at that bridge near to where you use to live? Your cottage is about nine miles from here."

" Really?" Elizabeth asked.

" Yeah, also if you keep following this stream you'll end up at a little cabin where me and Backup sometimes study." He replied. " We'll be going there again in a few weeks time for private studies with L and Watari. It gets us away from the bustle of the orphanage, we get to experience a few different lessons while we're there too."

" What kind of lessons?" Elizabeth asked.

" I can't tell you, its confidential information." He replied, he let go of her hand and got up from the ground. " Come on, we better be getting back before breakfast is served. I've got to shower before the days lessons begin. I've also got to make sure Nonie is awake. She's got a habit of oversleeping these days, I think she's studying too hard."

" Okay, let's go then." Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth got to her feet and put her sneakers back on, she brushed some dirt away from her backside while she walked with A back up the slope. They soon found themselves back on the trail, they decided to walk back to the orphanage instead of jogging since both of them weren't in a rush to get back to the orphanage.
