I wrote this fanfiction a very long time ago, it must be nearly ten years ago now. So I thought I'd dust it off and retell this story, it will be nice reliving it again. I wanted to write about the Wammy House, the school always interested me.

I first remember reading Another Note, I immediately took a shining to Beyond Birthday a.k.a BB or Backup. I love the anime series too, it's still holds its own until this very day.

-I don't own Death Note.

-My laptop charger decided to die on me - I'm sorry for any spelling errors and silly mistakes.

-Thank you for the reviews, faves and alerts!

-This opening chapter is from my oc Elizabeth's point of view, my writing style will change after this chapter.

Enjoy!

Chapter 25!

October

Elizabeth glanced at the calendar on the wall, it was the 10th of October. It will be A's fifteenth birthday in three days time, she had no idea what to get him. She had though about making him a toffee cheesecake like she did last year, it seemed like the easy option since he enjoyed it. She fixed her wonky collar on her dress before she got up from her chair at the dressing table, she then left her room with her school bag hung over her shoulder. She soon spotted A waiting for her in the corridor, he beckoned her to follow him while he tucked his hands into his hoody pockets. Elizabeth quickened her walking pace to catch up with him. But he soon stopped at the end of the corridor and leaned back against the wall, she soon greeted her boyfriend.

" Morning!" Elizabeth smiled.

" Morning, how are you today?" A asked

" I'm good, I've missed you." Elizabeth replied.

" You saw me about nine hours ago, but I can understand how you could miss me because I'm so intelligent and cool." A said with a smile. " So I get why you'd miss me, I'm just too awesome to be forgotten."

" So vain, I've never called you cool." Elizabeth laughed, she leaned her shoulder against the wall. " You're so full off yourself sometimes!"

" It was worth a shot to see if I could get a compliment out of you." A chuckled.

" Still vain." Elizabeth smiled.

" I know." A said.

" How are you feeling today anyway?" Elizabeth asked. " Hopefully better than yesterday, I know Mr Ruvie has been giving you a hard time again about your studies."

" I'm alright, I'm use to Mr Ruvie being a jerk. He just thinks I need to concentrate more. Apparently my attention span has been slipping in lessons which is affecting my studies." A replied, he crossed his arms. " It's basically a normal human characteristic. Who really concentrates on a task without being distracted for a few seconds anyway?"

" Do you think I'm the one distracting you?" Elizabeth asked before she playfully flicked some of her hair over her shoulder. " Maybe I should stay away from you for awhile so you can concentrate on your studies."

" Don't be daft!" A replied with a smile. " You're my good distraction."

" I guess that's good to know." Elizabeth said.

" Come on, let me walk you to class." A said.

" Okay." Elizabeth said.

A stopped Elizabeth before they even had a chance to walk down the corridor, he took his beeper from his pocket and read the number on it. His eyes grew wide and a serious expression crept across his face, he soon looked at his girlfriend. Elizabeth raised one of her eyebrows at him, something didn't seem right.

" Is there something wrong?" Elizabeth asked.

" I'm sorry, I need to go..." A replied, there was panic in his voice. " I'll come and find you later, I've been called to Watari's office."

" Okay, I'll see you later." Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth watched A hurrying down the corridor, she had no idea what was going on but it seemed serious. She sighed to herself and walked down the corridor, she then her made way down the ground floor of the building. She continued walking along the corridor, she saw a few students leaving the science lab in tears. She stopped in the doorway and looked into the room, there wasn't many students seated in the classroom. She looked back along the corridor, she saw some teachers rushing up the main staircase of the orphanage. She walked into the classroom and took her normal seat. She placed her bag on the table and looked at the clock on the wall, it was 9:15am.

" I'll meet you in the library in ten minutes!" A female's voice said from outside of the classroom. " I've got to collect my books first from the science lab, I'll be quick!"

A girl called Autumn walked into the classroom, she smiled at Elizabeth before she made her way over to her desk. She grabbed her bag from the floor and began to put her books into it. Elizabeth cleared her throat and got up from her seat, she had no idea what her fellow classmate was doing.

" Excuse me Autumn, but what's going on?" Elizabeth asked. " Where are all the other students?"

" Haven't you heard? One of the students Watari had sent to Los Angeles for a month at some university has gone missing!" Autumn replied." Kidnapped in broad daylight from the campus grounds by a group thugs in front of all of the students!"

" That's awful, what's the student's name?!" Elizabeth asked.

" Elèanore, she's in the same science class has us and her twin sister Adèle. They sit in the third row, second desk to the front of the classroom." Autumn replied, she made eye contact with her. " I've heard Adèle is devastated over the news, she's had to be sedated and put under the care of Nurse Clark."

" Oh my god..." Elizabeth said.

" This mornings lessons have been cancelled, all of the teachers have been called into an urgent meeting with Watari and Mr Ruvie." Autumn said before she hung her bag over her shoulder. " I'll see you later, I'm going to do some research on lobotomies in the library."

" Okay, I'll see you later." Elizabeth nodded.

Autumn left the classroom, she was now alone. Elizabeth now understood why A had hurried away, he would be helping L with the kidnapping investigation. She couldn't help but think of poor Elèanore, she must be so scared right now. Elizabeth hung her bag over her shoulder and left the classroom, she had no idea what to do with her free morning. She carried on walking down the corridor, she noticed a few students sitting on the main staircase while they spoke quietly amongst themselves. She stopped in the middle of the corridor when she noticed Backup and A. She watched them for awhile, they seemed to be in a deep conversation.

" I wonder what they're talking about?" Elizabeth muttered.

Elizabeth watch them until Backup made eye contact with her, she hurried up a few of the steps on the main staircase and sat down. She took a Mars bar from her bag and opened it, she then took a bite of the nutty treat. But she soon heard someone say her name, she had been spotted.

" Izzy?" A asked.

A appeared at the bottom of the staircase, she wiped some chocolate away from her mouth with the back of her hand before she gave him a smile. He dropped a blue duffel bag at the bottom of the staircase, he then leaned his shoulder against the banister and crossed his arms while a mischievous smirk crept across his face.

" Are you spying on me?" A asked.

" No! I'm just having a quick snack..." Elizabeth replied. " I'm going to take a nap, this mornings lessons have been cancelled due to a terrible incident involving one of the students."

" I know, I've already heard." A sighed, he picked his duffel bag up from the floor and hung it over his shoulder. " Do you want me to walk you to your room?"

" I can find my own way there, but thank you for the offer." Elizabeth smiled before she got up from the step. "Are you going somewhere?"

" Yeah, how did you guess?" A asked.

" You've got your duffel bag with you. The only time I've ever seen you carrying it is when you're going traveling with Watari and your mentor..." Elizabeth replied. " Where are you going this time?"

" I'm going to Los Angeles, there's been a state of emergency called in an American Government funded orphanage owned by one of Watari's business contacts. I guess you've already heard what's happened from the other students?" A asked, there was sadness in his voice. " Apparently it indicates a human trafficking racket was involved in Elèanore's abduction, it's a very serious matter. Don't tell anyone I told you that though, it's meant to be kept under wraps so it doesn't scare any of the other students."

" That's awful, poor Elèanore..." Elizabeth said.

" Watari is frantic over the news, I've never seen him act like this before. But Elèanore is one of his students so I understand why he his acting this way. He will use all of his resources and connections to get her back... " A said before he looked both ways down the corridor. " Will you come with me for a moment? I need a private word with you."

" Sure." Elizabeth replied.

Elizabeth soon followed A down the corridor, he stopped her outside of a door labeled Janitor's Closet before he opened the door. He gently pushed her into the small room, he then closed the door behind him and switched on a light. There were buckets, smelly mops, brooms and different kinds of cleaning detergents bottles in one corner of room. She watched A while he rummaged around in his coat's pockets, he took something out of his pocket and took a step towards her.

" I need to tell you something, it's about Los Angeles." A said, he took hold of her hand and pulled her closer towards him. " I don't know how long I'll be gone for this time, I maybe gone over five months or even a longer. I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to miss you, this is going to be the longest time I've ever been away from you since we were children."

" It's okay, I'll be right here when you get back from America." Elizabeth smiled. " I'll miss you too though, but we can stay in touch with each other while you're away right?"

" I'm not sure if I can this time, I'm going to have to break connections with everyone outside of America for safety reasons. I won't be able to call Backup this time, so you really won't hear from me." A replied with a sigh. " I just wanted to get a private moment with you before I left, I also wanted to give you a parting gift. I know it's not much, but I don't have anything of value on me right now."

" That's not fair, but I understand..." Elizabeth sighed.

" I'll be back before you know it, you'll be sick of seeing my face at some point." A chuckled, he then placed something in her hand and smiled at her. " Here, hold onto this for me until I return. Take really good care of it, they're my favorite."

A laugh escaped Elizabeth's lips, there was toffee in the palm of her hand. It was wrapped in gold and silver paper, it was a strange parting gift. She looked up from her hand at him and laughed again, she found the gift amusing.

" A toffee?" Elizabeth asked.

" Yeah, it's the only thing I've got on me right now for a parting gift." A replied with a chuckle. " But as long as you've got that toffee in your possession then I'll be coming back. I can't leave one of my precious toffees uneaten, it would be like blasphemy!"

" You're funny, but I'll keep it safe until you return." Elizabeth smiled, she unzipped bag and put the toffee in a side pocket." I guess I should give you something, let me see what I've got in my bag."

Elizabeth rummaged around in her bag, she found a packet of mints and a half eaten chocolate bar. She continued to rummage in her bag, but she soon found the perfect thing he could take with him. She took her chapstick from her bag and held it towards him, he looked amused at her parting gift.

" I'm sorry, this is all I've got..." Elizabeth said.

" Your chapstick? Yeah, my bag is going to look so manly going through the airport's baggage scanner with that in my bag!" A chuckled and took it from her hand. " But thank you, I'll keep it safe until I return home. You'll keep an eye on Nonie for me, right? She's been acting weird lately, she refuses to talk to me about a few things."

" Sure, I'll make sure she okay." Elizabeth replied.

" I'll see you really soon, I promise..." A smiled.

A softy kissed Elizabeth's forehead before he then pulled her into a hug, he told her he was going to miss her. She snuggled her face into his shoulder, she didn't want him to go to Los Angeles because it was a dangerous situation. He gently pulled her away from him and kissed her forehead once again, he then left the janitor's closet. Elizabeth sighed to herself and sat down on the floor before she wrapped her arms around her legs. She was going to miss him.

Four Months Later

It had been four months since A left to go to Los Angeles, none of them had heard from him since then. Nonie had become withdraw and quiet around Elizabeth, she wouldn't even sit with her in the dinner hall anymore. She still spoke to Backup though. Elizabeth had asked him if Nonie was doing okay, but he always told her she was going through some changes. She wasn't sure if he meant girl changes or educational changes, he was never clear about it.

Elizabeth closed the window in her room and locked it, it was just after 9pm. It was time for all of the students to go to bed, she drew the curtains before she got into bed. But a knock at her door soon caught her attention. She got out of bed and walked over to the door, she had no idea who would be knocking at his hour. She unlocked the door and opened it wide, she saw Nonie standing in the corridor. She was wearing her sunglasses again, she was dressed in her pajamas without any shoes on.

" Can I come in?" She asked.

" Sure, is everything okay?" Elizabeth asked.

" Not really, I think I need help..." She replied while walked into the room. " I know I've been a jerk around you lately, but I need someone new to talk. I know my Brother thinks highly of you. So maybe I could share my little problem with you instead of concerning him when he returns back to the orphanage."

" Okay, take a seat." Elizabeth said.

Nonie sat down on the bed while Elizabeth closed the door, she then turned around to face her friend. Nonie grabbed one of the pillows from the end of the bed, she then crossed her legs and stared at Elizabeth. She couldn't see her eyes but she felt her gaze upon her, she soon walked over to her bed and sat down on it's edge.

" So, what is your problem?" Elizabeth asked. " Is it about boys, girl's private matters or your studies? I'll try my best to help you, but I'm afraid my information about boys is nonexistent..."

" Boys?" She asked with laugh. " Don't make me laugh! I've got no interests in boys at this very moment, especially ones living at the orphanage. Besides, I don't think my Brother would be to pleased if I started seeing boys at the age of fourteen, do you?"

" I guess not." Elizabeth replied with smile. " So what is wrong exactly?"

" My problem is kind of peculiar. I thought Backup would have understood me since he has the same condition has me..." She replied, she hugged the pillow and deeply sighed to herself. " But his explanations are always bizarre, he's never clear sometimes. I can't ask my Brother for help because he would just freak out. Also I've got no idea how to get in touch with him while he's in Los Angeles."

" I see." Elizabeth said.

" Mr Ruvie is being an asshole, he won't give me my Brother's phone number!" She said with a frown. " So I've decided to ask you instead, that's if you can be any help to me."

" May I ask what your condition is?" Elizabeth asked.

" It's hard to explain it in words, I'll have to show you." She replied, she tucked her blonde hair behind her ears. " Promise not to freak out, if you scream then we'll both be in trouble! I'm meant to be in my room right now..."

" Okay, I promise that I won't scream." Elizabeth said.

Nonie remove her sunglasses, she looked down at the pillow before she placed them down on the bed. She slowly looked up from the pillow at Elizabeth and shrugged her shoulders at her with an odd smile on her face. Elizabeth's eyes grew wide, her eyes were bright red instead of their normal brown colour. She took a closer look at Nonie's eyes, she now understood why she thought she could have spoken to Backup about her eyes. His eyes were red too under the dark coloured contact lenses he normally wore every day.

" Do you want me to take a picture for you or something?" She asked. " It will last longer!"

" I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare..." Elizabeth replied. " So this is the reason why you've been wearing sunglasses for the past year?"

" Yeah, I didn't want to draw any attention to myself." She replied with sigh. " Watari, L and Backup are the only people who know about it. Including you now, but you've got to promise not to tell Alternative. He would defiantly freak out over my eyes! I've tried to wear coloured contact lenses but they make my eyes feel sore and uncomfortable."

" I won't say anything to him, but you can't wear sunglasses forever." Elizabeth said.

" I know, I think Watari is researching into other lenses for me to try." She said before she put her sunglasses back on. " There is a type of contact lens called silicone hydrogel lenses. Apparently they're more of a softer lens which will be better for my eyes. I won't be wearing contact lenses all the time though. The rest of the time I'll be wearing sunglasses, I don't want to draw any attention to myself or be branded has different."

" Does this mean your eyes are the same has Backups?" Elizabeth asked. " He always talks about lifespans and other strange things, does he speak the truth? I mean if I heard it from you then maybe I would believe what he says in the future, but I know he has the tendencies to over exaggerate at times."

" I think it's best not to question what Backup says to you, if I was you I'd ignore everything he says." She replied. " But for now I'm going back to my room before Mr Ruvie begins his night time rounds. I don't think I want a weeks detention for roaming the corridors after lights out."

" Okay, you best take the long way back to your room then. A once told me that Mr Ruvie starts his rounds from the first floor. So by the time you've gotten to your room he'll be on the second floor." Elizabeth said with a smile. " Unless his routine has changed, then you'll been seen which is very rare in your case because you're a good snooper."

" Why would Alternative tell you something like that? Do you both sneak around the orphanage after lights out?" She asked before she walked over to the room's door. " Raiding the fridge no doubt, having a midnight snack when no one else is looking instead of sleeping. I know what my Brother is like when it comes to food, his eyes are bigger than his belly. Anyway, I'm going to my room now."

" It's not like that, we don't sneak around after lights out!" Elizabeth said while she slid from the bed. " I mean he told me Mr Ruvie's light's out routine in case there was an emergency or if I needed to escape. Nothing sneaky about it at all!"

" What did you say?" She asked, she took hold of the door handle and looked at Elizabeth over her shoulder with a smirk on her face. " Is there something I should know about? Are my suspicions correct about what I've been thinking for the last several months? Or have I been misled by your random babbles?"

" I said nothing suspicious, it was random babbles!" Elizabeth replied.

" You're hiding something from me..." She said. " I'll get to the truth in the end."

" I'm not hiding anything, goodnight Nonie." Elizabeth said. " You better go before you get caught, I'll see you at breakfast."

" I've got my eye on you, both of them from now on." She said before she opened the door and walked through the doorway. " Goodnight, sweet dreams!"

" Goodnight." Elizabeth said.

Nonie left the room and closed the door behind her. Elizabeth sat down on the bed and sighed deeply to herself, she hated when Nonie teased her. She just hoped that Nonie knew nothing about her and A's relationship. At least she understood why Nonie was always wearing sunglasses now, but she didn't understand why she told her not to question what Backup said to her. Elizabeth turned her bedside lamp off and climbed into her bed, she would speak to Nonie in the morning about their conversation.
