Cameron started playing slow songs with her phone; pairing up with Foreman. Chase paired up with Adams, and of course the newlyweds would only dance with each other. It left Sophie, Sophia, Rebecca, Rachel and Park standing in the corner with one male, who was only twelve.
"This is my life, isn't it?" Park asked. "Standing here, surrounded by people, feeling alone and watching everyone else be happy."
"This sucks," Sophia commented eloquently.
"You could dance with your father," Rebecca ventured.
"Bite me."
"Where is he, anyway?" Park said, and shrugged at the glances she received. "Just wondering."
"I think he's outside," Travis answered.
"Why?"
"Maybe he's a closet smoker," Rebecca grumped. Her eyes flicked up to Taub as he walked inside, obviously holding something. She detached from the line of strangers and walked up to the less intimidating one. "What's that?"
"His ring. He can make it bigger."
Rebecca smirked at him. "Speaking of small things, Park would like to dance with you."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, I heard her say she wants a happy ending." Rebecca raised an eyebrow and walked away. She approached the newlyweds, who smiled at her as she approached. A sudden flash took them off-guard. Rebecca lowered her phone. "Say cheese," she said, deliberately late.
"Are you happy for me?" House asked.
"None of this was for me." Rebecca let herself out and the music was soon drowned out by the distinct sound of a motorbike roaring away.
House smiled and held his bride closer. "She's happy."
"How can you be so sure?"
"We're like two peas in a pod. I mean...I'm drier and wrinklier, but you get my point."
Cuddy chuckled over his shoulder. And for several shuffling steps, they were silent, enjoying the moment.
"How much did the remodel cost you?"
"House. Don't."
"Please. Just answer."
Cuddy lowered her head and sighed. "Eight grand."
House frowned, thinking about his apartment. "What about everything you guys bought for me? How much is that?"
Their feet stopped moving and she pulled back, looking into his eyes. "Are you thinking about paying me back?" she asked incredulously.
"It's the right thing to do."
"The right thing would have been to not drive through my living room, House!"
Their friends stopped dancing, hanging onto their partner and paying them no attention.
Their heads were already close, and he brought his closer; staring into her eyes. "How much is it?" he repeated.
"I don't know...three, four?"
He sighed, and when they slowly resumed dancing, their friends did as well. "I can work off the rest. What is it you do these days?"
"I don't recall getting engaged to a man with a conscience."
"Let me make it up to you."
Cuddy sighed, lowering her head again. "I can't let you back into the hospital, House. But I can make you a deal. Pay for our honeymoon at Mont Saint-Michel, and we're even. You have enough in there to make it work."
He nodded. "Deal."
She leaned into him and wrapped her arms around him, and he stood there forcing himself not to pry her off, as he told himself open affection would be a part of his life. He hesitantly slid his arms around her and they kept dancing.
